Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC in exchange for an honest review. I really wanted to like At Her Service more especially given I've liked past works by this author. Unfortunately I came off of forcing myself through another book and didn't want to ruin reading for awhile which led to this becoming a DNF. I hope to go back to it to see if I can get into it but the story was not hooking me in any way as of now.

This was a fun read! I liked the character development, and I was so happy to see a plus-sized character being represented in a sapphic romance novel!

This was a sweet sapphic romance about self development and found family. I liked the supporting characters in the story more than the main character, Max. The subplot of the life of an influencer was interesting, as was the origin story of the neighborhood bar that she frequented. Max seemed a bit too needy and insecure in this, and I did not really feel that she grew as a character in a way that would make her more appealing. The story arc did not fully capture my interest, so I never felt really drawn into the book.
I would recommend this to readers of modern LGBTQIA+ romance with some reservations.

I liked this one so much more than the first in the series - though I enjoyed that one too!
Max is a twenty-six year old assistant living in LA and barely making rent. She’s feeling lost and alone, and spends most of her time either working or at a bar near her apartment. She has a crush on the hot bartender and embarrassed herself out one night. She goes on a date with a different girl she met at the bar and in a fit of sadness, joins her influencer roommate for the launch of an app about finding self-fulfillment.
Max’s insecurities, thoughts, anxiety, and basically everything about her, made sense to me. We’ve all been there. Hell, I’m still there some days. She was so so so relatable that I swear the author was writing from my brain. I loved her growing relationships with the people around her and her romance with Sadie. I loved how much Max grew and changed.
This book was really, really great. Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Another banger from Amy Spalding! I read so much that there are few writers whose characters just keep on living inside my head long after I finish their stories, but Amy Spalding does it to me every time. I found myself revisiting Ari and Nina in my imagination long after I’d finished For Her Consideration — and I’m positive Max and Sadie will be cozied up in my noggin forever now too. Yes, that Max! Joyce’s queer assistant from the last book takes center stage in At Her Service. What I loved most about this book was Max’s hilarious, heartfelt, entirely relatable journey toward self-actualization. The romance was so sweet and sexy and comfortable, but it was really the cherry on top of a wonderful tale about the trials and joys and heartache and triumph of becoming a happy queer adult. I especially loved that Max wasn’t always the most reliable narrator about herself (especially about how other people felt about her) because that’s what it’s like to
be human! I was so move finding out, right along with Max, how people really perceived her, Spalding makes me cackle out loud so much I won’t even read her books in bed because I know I’ll wake up my wife with my giggling. I’m also always endlessly impressed with how deeply versed she is in queer pop culture: all her references and jokes are so organic they feel like my own friends and I could be making them. I hope there’s even more to come in this series, but either way, Amy Spalding’s got a lifelong fan in me!

"At Her Service" by Amy Spalding is a delightful romantic tale that not only sweeps readers off their feet with its adorable love story but also resonates deeply with anyone trying to navigate the complexities of adulthood and self-discovery. This book captivates with its fun romance and the authentic portrayal of a young woman striving to find her place in the adult world.
What sets "At Her Service" apart is its exploration of the modern challenges faced by young adults, from the complexities of relationships to the constant pressure to present an idealized version of oneself on social media. Max's decision to use a self-actualization app adds a unique twist to the story, highlighting the way technology infiltrates our lives and influences our choices. "At Her Service" beautifully captures the essence of self-discovery and the courage it takes to embrace one's true self. Max's journey to authenticity is both empowering and heartwarming, reminding readers that it's okay to stumble along the way as long as you stay true to yourself.

This was a very solid novel. I hadn’t read the first book so there were a few times I was a bit lost in the backstory of a character or two. There were also a few storylines that had pretty big holes or felt like they deserved some more attention. It still was a very sweet and comfy story. Thanks to NetGalley for the eARC of this novel!

I just couldn't get into this book. I kept waiting for something to hook me, a character to suck me in and it just didn't happen. I got a halfway through before just admitting i did not care at all what happened to these people and dnfing. Maybe for some people, not for me.

Amy Spalding knocked it out of the park with At Her Service. When Max embarks on a roommate led social media campaign to get her life together and reach her goals, she didn't exactly know what was abut to happen. This story is so relatable, touching on the annoying thoughts of self doubt and longing towards crushes. I found myself rooting for the main characters throughout the book and highly recommend this fun read to all.

Such a fun story! This was a huge improvement in writing style and character development from the first book and I LOVED the first one. The characters were crisp and well rounded, the tension and struggle were compelling and gripping. The twist anti capitalist ending was also delightful.

A delightful and messy romance--my favorite. All about finding yourself, taking chances, speaking up, this romance is adorable, sexy, and empowering. Loved it!

This was sooo good! It was relatable and gay AF! Max is such a messy lesbian and I was here for it!!! Also I love how she finds her way with her job and her body and her love. All of it was v cute. Also like this book made me laugh so much. I felt for Max’s expectations versus reality with her life and I think anyone can relate. Also gahhhh Sadie was also super dreamy. Okay all done. Great and sapphic and gay. Love!

I'm officially adding Amy Spalding to my fun favorite sapphic writers list! I had never read her work before, but I was gifted by the publisher and NetGalley her upcoming novel "At Her Service". The description sounded like a good time. And it WAS!
After chatting with a friend, she told me that I should read the previous book "For Her Consideration" since 1) it was really good and 2) it was in the same universe as the one I was just gifted. And I am definitely glad I read them in that order. I would read FHC whenever I got a free moment instead of just reading after the kids went to sleep. I only do that when I'm really really into a story. It helped get me pumped with excitement to read At Her Service right afterwards.
Did I like At Her Service as much as For Her Consideration? Honestly, no. FHC was 5 stars. But would I kick AHS outta bed? Also no. It was 4 stars! Still a real good time.
I think AHS was for a younger audience in their early/mid 20s like the MC and majority of the supporting character's were, vs FHC which was early/mid 30s and definitely steamier. I loved when Ari and Nina popped up from FHC, but I wanted MORE of that couple. Which, I'm hoping we get since I feel like the author created a nice opportunity for a Ari/Nina sequel (given the information we learned about their relationship development).
At Her Service had me a little frustrated when the "big conflict" happened. The miscommunication seemed a little forced for the sake of plot movement. I also would have enjoyed a tad more spice. The story felt like a good straddle between the YA and adult shelves.
The style of writing is easy and both stories are low stakes but with good drama and witty dialogue. If you enjoy Casey McQuiston, you'll enjoy Amy Spalding. They can sit at the same table as far as I'm concerned.
Thank you to NetGalley and Kensington Books for gifting me this advanced copy so that I may have the pleasure of reading and sharing my honest feedback and opinion.

Thankyou so much to Amy for the ARC of this book it exceeded all my expectations! As a 20 something who so often feels so lost in her life, be it financially, professionally or romantically watching the way Max navigated all of these things and how she pushed herself for all of the things that she wanted was so refreshing. I’d class this book as a coming of age for all of us still struggling with who we are years after our teens. The love story between Sadie and Max was so refreshing from both sides but it was Max’s friendships that shone for me, the different connections she had with each of them was so lovely in their own ways.
Amy knocked it out of the park with this one and I hope it’s on everyone’s 2024 TBR’s; not just sapphic readers because I think everyone can see themselves in Max at some point in this story.

Amy Spalding is the queen of relatable queer characters! I love the world she's built between FOR HER CONSIDERATION and AT HER SERVICE. Max is a delightfully messy protagonist, and her journey is full of hilarious twists and heartfelt moments of growth. I loved cheering for her at every step.

Thankyou to the publishers and NetGallery for allowing me to review this book.
I really enjoyed this book. The characters were so well thought out and I felt drawn to them in some ways. I would recommend this book to others.

This was a cute read! Max is a fully human main character, and while this is a romance, it’s also a novel about someone finally finding herself. It’s sweet, authentic, and fun! I did think the introduction was a bit longer than necessary, meaning that it took a while to really get into the story (and Max’s name doesn’t even come up until page 20!), but all in all, definitely worth a read!

A perfect romance about Max, a transplant to LA, who is trying to figure out who she is and how to connect with bartender Sadie but also how to move her life forward. Her influencer roommate helps get her into a program to do just that but the catch is it will all be shared. Max and Sadie, as well as the side characters are fabulous. They show the reality for most people as they try to become adults and think everyone around them has it more together. Great story with a perfect romance.

I was so excited to get my grubby hands on this, and it didn't disappoint. Amy's last book is one that I recommend constantly, and this follows Max, an assistant at the agency Nina worked for in For Her Consideration, and Sadie. I was rooting for them so much, and I know I need a thesaurus, so I use more adjectives than delightful, but goodness. I would say that my *only* issue is a personal one, that I dislike any sexy times that have to do with public food and drink spaces. That's a me issue? I mean, my 15yo won't eat mac and cheese if I use my fork to shove it onto his plate. We all have our issues. It didn't lessen my enjoyment of the book. Amy is a treasure.

I continue to love the Hollywood world that Spaulding has created. It was great to watch Sadie turn from an idea to a real person through Max's eyes, and I really loved watching Max realize that it wasn't the world holding her back. Can't wait for the next one.
