Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for letting me review this book. I’ve enjoyed both series set in the town of Harvest,OH. This was a fun read and can’t wait to see what Millie and Lois get into next v
I love Millie and Lois! Add in the goats, Lois’ dating adventures, and the crossover visitors from Amanda Flower’s Amish Candy Shop mysteries and I am a happy reader. I found the information about the fairs fascinating (I’ve never been to one but another reviewer mentioned it’s different from their experience) and the quilting brokers were something I’ve never heard of but I’m glad I’ve learned about. This is such a wholesome, fun series, with just the right amount of murder and investigation. Highly recommended for a quick, satisfying read that will make you laugh in places and leave you with a smile on your face.
I enjoy both of the series set in this town. The mystery kept me guessing and I love the characters.
Thank you to the author, publisher and NetGalley for my eARC in exchange for an honest review.
This book is a wonderful addition to An Amish Matchmaker Mystery series. It's a fun mystery that will keep you turning the pages. It has just enough twists and turns to keep you guessing until the end. I highly recommend this book and the entire series to anyone who is a fan of good clean mysteries.
I received a complimentary copy from Kensington Books via NetGalley and was not required to write a review. All opinions expressed are my own.
It’s always a great day when I get to drop in on the antics in Harvest, Ohio. Millie is an Amish matchmaker and widow. Lois is her non-Amish purple haired multi-divorcee longtime best friend. In Dating Can Be Deadly, Millie puts aside her matchmaking to enter her latest quilt in the county fair. Her nephew is also showing her two mischievous goats. Of course, Millie and Lois find a dead body in the quilt barn leading them to begin their favorite hobby—sleuthing.
I find this series and its companion series, The Amish Candy Shop mysteries, to always be fun and relaxing reads. I would have liked a bit more of Jethro, the celebrity potbellied pig, in this entry. However, the two goats gave me a few chuckles. Whether you are a longtime fan of this series or just looking for a family friendly gently humorous mystery, you can’t go wrong with Dating Can Be Deadly. 5 stars!
Thanks to Kensington Books and NetGalley for a digital review copy of the book.
It’s county fair time in Holmes County Ohio. Millie enters a quilt into competition. Then the president of the fair board is found dead in the quilt barn. As can be expected Millie and Lois investigate.
I enjoy visiting Harvest, Ohio and catching up with Millie, Lois and the other mainstays of the two mystery series set here. What’s really fun is that Aiden has become sheriff. The quilt Millie made is for Aiden and Bailey’s wedding….if they ever set a date.😊
The Amish Matchmaker mysteries have a hint of the ridiculous with Lois’ outrageous behavior and all the trouble the goats get into even at the fair.
The murderer ended up being someone I didn’t really suspect, although there was a bit of a niggle in the back of my mind about this person.
I wanted a little more about Millie and Uriah’s relationship. Far too much was left in the background for me to really understand why Millie would do what she does at the end. And that’s enough of hinting at spoilers.
Thanks to Netgalley and Kensington Books for the opportunity to read this book.
In book five of Amanda Flowers- An Amish Matching Mystery Series , While the county fair is in town Millie decides to enter the quilting contest. When the one of of the quilting judges is murdered Millie decides to take off her matchmaking shoes and put on her detective ones instead.
I enjoy visiting Millie and Lois in Harvest , it is catching up with old friends. Amanda Flowers creates a fun , enjoyable read .
I just reviewed Dating Can Be Deadly by Amanda Flower. #DatingCanBeDeadly #NetGalley
Dating Can Be Deadly by Amanda Flower is another Amish Matchmaker mystery and features Millie, the elderly Amish lady, and Lois, the very much not Amish woman who has been Millie’s best friend for over 60 years. They are at the fair. Millie is delivering the quilt has been working on as a gift to Bailey and Aiden when they marry to the competition, and Lois is meeting her newest online date. Of course, Millie has to check on her two goats, Peter and Phillip, who are present, being shown by her great nephew, Micah. The two goats had a streak of rambunctiousness that got them into trouble often. Millie met the president of the fair board, Tara Barron and stopped Ruth Yoder from disrupting the entire fair when she tried to enter her quilt at the last minute. She did meet the security guard, Sal, and a small boy named Zach with a pygmy goat called Scooter. It had been an eventful day. Then, Sal called her in the night (she had an emergency phone) telling her the two goats had escaped and he couldn’t find them, could she come and help. So, she and Lois went off to the fair, only to discover Tara dead and Ruth Yoder’s quilt shredded beneath her. So began the investigation.
Nearly as compelling as the murder was Millie’s waffling over whether she wanted to marry Uriah, a man she had know from her youth. He now worked at the park where most of the festivals in Harvest were held. She had been married, happily, but she was not sure if she wanted to give up her freedom. Lois, of course, had two boyfriends in the same span of time. The outcome is surprising, and sad, but Millie is able to get the sheriff’s help in saving a little boy and that made it all worth it. Another fun cozy by Flower.
I was invited to read a free e-ARC of Dating Can Be Deadly by Kensington Books, through Netgalley. All thoughts and opinions are mine. #Netgalley #KensingtonBooks #AmandaFlower #DatingCanBeDeadly
Dating Can Be Deadly is book #5 in the Amish Matchmaker Mystery series by Amanda Flower.
I love catching up with Millie and her best friend Lois. There’s always fun when they get together. I love Millie’s troublemaking goats and Jethro. There were enough suspects to keep me guessing until the end. This is an entertaining, heartwarming series.
Thank you to the author, Kensington Books, and NetGalley for the Advanced Reader Copy (ARC) copy of this book and I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
Another satisfying visit to Holmes County with Millie and Lois. I love the lifelong friendship between these two nosy parkers, despite their many differences. While Millie doesn’t do a whole lot of matchmaking in this book, she is kept plenty busy between the quilting competition at the county fair, her troublesome goats, Lois’s love life (not to mention her own), a sweet little boy with a sweet little goat, and of course a murder to solve! I appreciate the little tidbits of information that the author sprinkled into this story about characters from the companion series also set in Harvest, Ohio.
Thanks go to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read an advance copy of this book. All opinions are my own.
Dating Can Be Deadly by Amanda Flower takes us back to Harvest, Ohio for the Holmes County Fair. I just love Millie Fisher and Lois Henry. Those two are quite a pair. Lois and Millie are opposites, but they have been best friends since they were children. Lois’s handbag must weigh a ton. I am just amazed at what Lois has in that bag (and I thought I carried a big bag). Millie’s mischievous goats are entered into the competition at the county fair (thanks to Millie’s nephew Micah) and you know those two are itching to explore the fairgrounds. When a murder occurs at the fair in the quilt barn, Lois and Millie are on the case. There are a handful of suspects. Millie and Lois ask questions plus nose around for clues. Some readers may be surprised when the killer’s identity is revealed (it means you missed a vital clue or two). I like how Lois’s purse played into the reveal. I laughed often while reading Dating Can Be Deadly. You never know what Lois will say or do next (and her outfits are something else especially her ensemble for the square dance). I do wonder how much gel and hairspray Lois uses to get her hair to stay in place (I bet Lois could get picked up by a twister and her hair would remain intact). I love that the story includes characters from An Amish Candy Shop Mysteries including a certain polka dotted pig. Cupid is in town, and he is knocking at Millie’s door. The question is, though, Millie ready to open her heart. Dating Can Be Dating is the fifth An Amish Matchmaker Mystery. It can be read as a standalone, but I encourage you to read this delightful series in order. Dating Can Be Deadly is an entertaining tale with fighting fair officials, roguish goats, quality quilts, dating dilemmas, helmet hair, a heartless relative, and fair food.
If I could this book more stars, I would! I'm a huge Amanda Flower fan - love all of her books, especially her Amish Matchmaker mysteries so was super excited to see this new release pop up from her. It has all of the unexpected twists of a reality TV show about my favorite subject - single Amish trying to find their true love - along with a murder to solve. what more could you want. You don't need to read the first 4 [but I don't know why you wouldn't?!] to enjoy book #5. And fi you love quilting, then it's an extra bonus because in this one a quilting judge is murdered so you get some fun craft stuff in here too!
Dating Can be Deadly is the fifth cozy mystery in the An Amish Matchmaker Mystery series. The Holmes County fair has just begun and Millie Fisher has entered a quilt in the quilting competition. As always, when Millie and her best friend, Lois, are involved nothing ever goes off without a hitch. True to form, Millie and Lois stumble upon a dead body in the quilt barn and when it turns out to be murder, the search is on. Living up to her Amish Marple nickname, Millie is able to unravel the clues until she is standing face to face with the killer.
I have followed this series from the beginning and I’m always excited to see another Amish Matchmaker book coming out. This book was as good as the rest of the series, but that’s not surprising to me. I have loved everything that I have read by Amanda Flower. I love the world that is created in this series and find the characters so likable and engaging. If you haven’t read this series, or the parallel series of an Amish Candy Shop Mystery series, it is definitely with the read. I highly recommend this series and book to cozy mystery fans and I can’t wait to see what will come next for Millie and Lois.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an ARC version of this book!
Lois Henry has nicknamed her best friend, Millie Fisher, the "Amish Marple." Lois and Millie's close friendship is definitely a case of opposites attract. Millie is a widowed, devout Amish woman and Lois is "Englisch", outspoken, and has just joined a dating app to hopefully meet husband number five!
This book is the fifth in the series (which is a spin-off of the author's Amish Candy Shop series), but would work as a standalone. These books never fail to make me smile and sometimes laugh out loud at the various situations Lois and Millie get into. I enjoyed the mystery aspect of the book and the dramatic manner in which it was resolved. I also enjoyed the subplot regarding the young boy, Zach, and the way it is tied in with the murder mystery. No series about a matchmaker would be complete without some romance and this book delivers on that as well. All in all, this is a heartwarming installment in this fun series.
I received an advance copy of this ebook at no cost from NetGalley and Kensington Books, but my review is voluntary and unbiased.
Millie is involved in another murder mystery. This time it is at the county fair and is the fair president (who had a lot of enemies).
Millie gets involved with the fair in a couple ways, her quilt entry and Micah showing her two troublemaker goats. Who knew that stumbling on the murder in the quilt barn would be from trying to find her loose goats.
This book had so many potential suspects and lead to a rare occasion of me not figuring it out until revealed. Definitely didn't see this one coming. A couple nice additions to this story were seeing the Sheriff in his new role and the side story of little Zach and his goat Scooter. I like how this series and the Amish Candy Shop series intertwine too.
I'm hoping for some weddings in the next couple books since there have been so many sneak peeks on that front.
Thank you to Kensington and Netgalley for providing me a copy of this ARC for my honest review.
This series is so dang wholesome to me, even with all of the murder. If I'm honest, the title is misleading, since the dating piece didn't have a whole lot to do with the meat and potatoes of the book, but Millie and Lois' sleuthing makes it worth picking up. While I was hoping that Ruth would get knocked down a peg or two (she deserves it), the ending more than made up for that.
Thank you Netgalley, for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Dating Can Be Deadly is the fifth book in the An Amish Matchmaker Mystery series.
Millie and Lois have been friends since childhood. Even though their lives are worlds apart, Millie is Amish, and Lois is an Englischer, they accept each other's beliefs without question.
The Holmes County Fair is about to open, and Millie plans to exhibit a quilt she has made. Lois takes her to the fairgrounds to hang the quilt in the judging area. Shortly after arriving, they see Ruth Yoder, wife of a local Amish Bishop, arguing with Tara Barron, the head judge and president of the fair board. Ruth wanted to enter a quilt but was late getting her application in, and Tara refused to make any exceptions.
One night, Millie learns that her goats, Peter and Phillip, whom her grand-nephew was showing, had escaped their pen, and she needed to come and catch them. Lois drives them to the fairgrounds, and their search for the goats leads to the pole barn where the quilts are exhibited. They find more than the goats. Tara's dead body is lying on the shredded quilt that Ruth Yoder wanted to display.
Millie and Lois begin to investigate, as the police will probably suspect that Ruth might have had reason to kill Tara, but they know that Ruth would never kill anyone. Millie and Lois realize that it was Tara’s quilt shop that burned down. Her ex-husband becomes a suspect when it’s learned he was her partner in the shop. There will also be a few more suspects. Before it’s all over, Millie will once again be reminded why Lois carries a brick in her HUGE purse. Millie will also help a young Amish lad and his pygmy goat find a caring home. A very touching story. Once again I enjoyed reading about the antics of Peter and Phillip.
The book is well-written and plotted. It reads at a good pace and provides a few chuckles, too. I love reading how Millie and Lois interact with their different life styles.
I’m looking forward to the next book in this delightful series.
Dating Can be Deadly is the fifth book in this always enjoyable Amish Matchmaking series.
When a quilting judge is murdered inside the quilt barn at the county fair, Amish widow Millie and best friend non Amish Lois, once again set out to find a murderer. This was another fun read that had me hooked from page one! There are plenty of red herrings, a sprinkling of humor, a little romance, and some cute goats. This book kept me guessing and I was totally surprised by who the murderer turned out to be. My thanks to the publisher and netgalley for this ARC to read and review. I give it 5/5 stars. I just love this series!
Millie (Amish) and Lois (English) have been friends for years, though they come from different worlds. There's nothing they enjoy more than spending time together and maybe eating some blueberry pie, unless it's donning an amateur sleuth cap, and solving a mystery or two. This time they're at the county fair where Millie has a quilt entered in a "best of" contest. They're enjoying the food, the animals, the atmosphere, the other quilts....but the enjoyment ends when a murder occurs. Millie and Lois have their hands full solving this one.
I always look forward to reading each new book in the An Amish Matchmaker Mystery series. I know I'm in for a cozy mystery that's packed full of interesting characters, an intriguing mystery (or two) to solve, lots of twists, turns, and red herrings, maybe some matching advice, and a story that once you start reading, you don't want to stop until your done.
Highly recommend.
Many thanks to Kensington Publishing and NetGalley for an advance copy of this book. My thoughts and opinions are my own and without bias or favor or expectation.
This is such a fun series, the An Amish Matchmaker Mystery series. I enjoy returning to Harvest, Ohio for both of Amanda Flower's series set there, where the Amish and Englisch live together. Millie, an Amish widow, and her best friend since childhood, Lois, an Englischer, cannot be more different but they love each other dearly and love to put on their sleuthing hats whether or not they are wanted. This time the county fair is in town and the president of the fair board, and the head quilt judge is found dead in the quilt barn. There is a huge suspect pool for those who might want this unpopular woman dead. I was surprised by the reveal of the killer but had my suspicions about the weapon early on. And romance is in the air. Recommended for cozy mystery lovers.
I received a copy for the purpose of an honest review, and these are my thoughts.
