I received a copy of this book through Netgalley. This is my honest review.
This is a story that seeks to compare the roles of teachers and staff in schools with very recognizable DC superheroes. It's clear the goal is to help the kids relate to the teachers and staff a little more by using characters that they idolize on the screen. It was cutely done.
The illustrations were so bright and bold. They held true to the appearances of the superheroes used and really helped to show the similarities in a fun way. This would definitely be a good book to read with your young children who are a little newer to a school setting. Overall I give School is Full of Superheroes 3.7934 out of 5 stars.
Highlights teachers and community helpers. Super cute story. Lots of recognisable superhero characters for the kids to identify
This was a really fun book and should be a part of every school library. Also would make a great gift to the superheroes in your childs' lives.
Pointless. A thank you to school staff that school pupils might read, and appreciate their accompanying adults a smidge more because of, but that's about it. This makes out that in their superheroic duties Batman protects schoolkids, Supergirl rescues children from disasters, and a Green Lantern teaches science, perhaps based on what he sees when putting a shift in. At the same time, the teacher guiding children around is as needed as Aquaman, the history/myths/literacy staffer is as genned up on all that stuff as Wonder Woman, and the cleaners are as diligent and pacey as a team of Flashes. Just check this out, and ask yourself who it's actually for, and you'll be putting it back on the shelf as quick as any speedster. It'll benefit nobody.
School Is Full of Superheroes by Michael Dahl is a great beginning of the year book to introduce the important people in a school and what their role at the school is. This book is mainly geared toward K-2nd grade. As a second grade teacher, I would love to read this book to my class and explore the various roles and their jobs. I would also like to tie it into ways we can show appreciation for the hard work each of those "superheroes" do to help the school run such as make thank you cards for the custodian.
I like how the jobs of the superheroes are to "encourage new, young, heroes everywhere... just like you." I also like how the superheroes who work at the school are referred to as a team and they "work together with a single mission..." It portrays the superheroes of the school in a positive way and lets our young students know that each member of the team is there to help and encourage them.
The illustrations are also very engaging and diverse.
I would recommend this book to teachers, librarians, and parents who have a child that will be starting school for the first time. This book will be published on Jan. 1, 2024. I know I will be picking up a copy for my classroom library and will be buying some as beginning of the year gifts for my teacher friends.
Thank you Michael Dahl and NetGalley for letting me read an early ecopy of this book. I voluntarily read it and gave an honest review.
This is a sweet school related children’s book that highlights all the people and workers it takes to run a school, not just the teachers.
It highlights community helpers and is a fun read
This is a community helpers type story that focuses on all the people who work at a school. Everyone from custodians to hall monitors are included. On the left side of each spread, a new "hero" is introduced, with a descdription of what they do for the school. On the right, that person is displayed as a comic book character, doing a magnified version of their heroic task.
The drawings are in panels in some places, and dialogue is displayed in speech bubbles. The theme is well thought out. This would be a nice story for children who are new to school, or those who need an intro to what all the adults at school are doing.
Thank you NetGalley for an advance copy in exchange for my honest review.
This was really good. I read it because I love DC superheros. I would definitely read this book to my son. He already invested in learning. And this definitely would help him when he start to go to school.
Very fun read and great artworks inside. Kids and families of all ages will stop in their tracks at the bookstores for this vibrant story.
Many recognizable characters and great metaphorical comparisons to hard working staff within school environments.
The dialogue mixing with the story writings felt out of order in some places. I read this to both my 7 and 5 year olds and they liked the images best.
School is full of superheroes is a letter of appreciation to all members that make a school function properly. It features bus drivers, custodians, lunch ladies, librarians, teachers of all kind, principals and even front desk staff. An excellent blend of superheroes from DC comics, and applying it to real heroes in education! An incredible gift for an educator in your life or for you to talk to your students about the importance of everyone in the school.
"School Is Full of Superheroes" by Michael Dahl is a delightful picture book that cleverly compares everyday school heroes like principals, teachers, and custodians to famous comic book heroes like Batman and Wonder Woman. It shows how these school figures demonstrate their own kind of heroism, just like superheroes do. This book is a heartwarming tribute to the essential workers in schools and is a perfect gift for teachers or a wonderful story to read to young students. It not only honors the dedication of educators and school staff but also helps kids see the heroes in their own school community. "School Is Full of Superheroes" is a powerful and inspiring book that teaches us that heroes come in many forms, even among those who nurture young minds in schools!
This book is a great way to honor all school staff in an engaging way. I'd definitely recommend it as a classroom read aloud, especially during any of the school staff appreciation weeks. My son and I loved the superheroes and the parallels to the school staff. This book does such a great job of honoring a wide range of school staff, not just one group. This would also be a great gift for teachers or any school staff as an appreciation gift. Definitely recommend!
Thinking sure i will read this to my kids. But i enjoyed the book on my own. I love superheroes so reading this just was such a great book. Can never be too old to read a superhero book. Thank you NetGalley for this opportunity.
This book is perfectly written. Adults that love DC characters will enjoy reading this to their children and in my car my grandkids. My grandsons and I loved the pictures and it was an enjoyable read. Loved how the book showed the superheroes of our everyday lives. Thank you for the enjoyment. Look forward to many more similar to it
I received an electronic ARC from Capstone through NetGalley.
The DC superheroes show readers the real life superheroes they interact with every day they are in school. From the bus drivers to the principal, each adult brings care and support for the heroes of tomorrow. The illustrations are action filled and capture the spirit of the DC super hero comics. A light read to celebrate school staff and affirm their value. Fun book to share early in the school year. Families can read this together before the first day of school.
"School is Full of Superheroes" creatively connects DC Comics' superheroes to the everyday heroes in our schools. With engaging storytelling by Michael Dahl, this picture book pays tribute to teachers, librarians, cafeteria workers, and others, highlighting their essential roles. It's a perfect read-aloud to inspire young students and celebrate our school heroes. Highly recommended for its imaginative storytelling and heartwarming message.
Thank you to NetGalley and Capstone for the Digital ARC.

As adults, we know that teachers, staff and administrators, are the unsung heroes, But I love how this book reminds children that those individuals are the SAME type of heroes that they read about in comics, or watch on TV. It's a great reminder for children. I also loved the superheroes checklist, because there's different types of skills and assets that make up a hero, and children can find which group they most identify with. Additionally, I think the illustrations will really resonate with children. It's the perfect mix of comic book/tv cartoon styling.
I love the art in this book. It was so cute. Story connects the everyday with the world of supers. It is pretty and so much fun reminding us that heroes come out of the everyday.
4 stars
A perfect back to school book for perfect little kids that love superheroes. This is the cutest book I have seen in a long time and I wish this had come out before school started so I could send it to everyone I know.
So bright and fun!! Loved how it taught the kids they could be superheroes for each other and how!!!
