Everything is Temporary by Jon Cohn. I read this last night on a long car ride. Read the whole thing. Couldn't put it down. I went in blind, had literally no idea what it was about. It was absolutely not anything I expected and it was absolutely excellent. Highly recommend. Go in blind. That is all.

I absolutely loved this one. My only complaint is that I missed it earlier, and am reading it in February. I would love to be reading this at Christmas. The writing is so fun. There is terror, there is humour. You actually care about the characters. I really had fun with this one.
It gives a bit of It and a little RL Stine if I’m honest. I loved the blend of adulthood and childhood.
I look forward to anything else Mr. Cohn has in store for us.

I really enjoyed this Christmas horror story. It was fun, exciting and fast paced. It read like a movie which is appealing, it makes it easy to follow the story along with the characters.
A really good time, I highly recommend this in Christmas time to those who’re looking for a spooky fun time.

As a young boy Tom loved all things Christmas. Christmas movies and decorations brought him comfort since losing his mother a year earlier. One day, while eluding a bully, Tom comes across a house where it’s Christmas all year. A kindly old lady lives there with the smell of fresh baked cookies and hot cocoa. She opens her home to terminally ill children so that they can enjoy one last Christmas regardless of the time of year. She takes a liking to Tom and hires him to be her “little elf”. Christmas magic is alive in this house, the decorations, lights, candy canes and move on their town, and “Evergreen” the tree can talk! Only Tom is permitted this knowledge. Unfortunately, Tom tries to show the magic to his few friends and Mrs. Clause is not happy about that!
Mrs. Clause see’s you when you’re sleeping. She knows when you’re awake. She alone decides if you’ve been bad or good and she decides when she needs to feed.
The kids come. together to battle a monster they didn’t believe in…..until they saw it for themselves. Mrs. Clause and her army of Christmas trinkets are a formidable foe for the children and she never forgives and forgets either…..Tom, now a husband and father, realizes that she (or it) is back and there is nothing he won’t do to protect those he loves.
This was a fantastic read. I really try to avoid mentioning Stephen King in a review because I think the actual author of a book deserves all the credit. Jon Cohn DOES deserve kudos for writing this engaging, entertaining David vs Goliath horror. I will only say if you enjoyed Stephen Kings works such as “IT”or any horror where children battle evil, then you will love this book.

A great read. It was a bit slow to start but quickly picked up towards the last quarter and was unput down able!
Do you really know the person the is sleeping next to you? What would it take for you to believe some very out there stories that they swear are true?
Tom and his wife Sarah and their daughter didn’t celebrate Christmas because Tom is not a fan. Sarah never truly understood why, until Everything is Temporary. A strange man. Year round Christmas house. A family, old friends, and old demons.

Tom and Sarah are parents to a 13 year old daughter. The journey in this book begins when Tom starts acting weird. Tom has a year round hatred of Christmas. His weird behavior continues when he attempts to take the life of a mall Santa Claus.
Tom has a book from his past that he makes his wife and lawyer read. He wrote the story when he was younger. The book reveals a traumatic story that happened to him when he was a child. A story that no one seems to believe.
We follow him and his wife as they figure out what to do about the story and his attempted murder. We also are able to read the story from his childhood.
I really enjoyed this story. It was the right amount of scary but it wasn't too scary. I liked the fact that we actually got to read the book from his childhood.
I give this book 4 out of 5 stars. I also plan to look into other books by him.

Christmas horror! What more is there to say? This was a clever and frightening book that is sure to get you in the holiday spirit.... or not!

I enjoyed this one! I love the idea of a scary Christmas book and as soon as I saw this one, I knew I had to read it! It definitely had some creepy scenes in it and I was very invested in the story and kept needing to find out what happened.

I absolutely loved Everything is Temporary. It was a super fun Christmas horror. There were some shocking, but cool twists in the story. The mischievous toys put off Gremlins vibes. Despite the fantastical story, it was nice that the characters faced real life consequences from their actions, as opposed to being glossed over. This was perfect to read over the holidays. I highly recommend this book. Thank you to NetGalley for the chance to read this!

I enjoyed this book so much! Excellent holiday read, or any time read, really. It has the perfect amount of “realistic magic” is there such a thing? I don’t know, but this book made me believe it. I loved it!

Just how sinister can Christmas be?
If you'd love a dark Christmas story, this is it. Jon Cohn's writing is excellent just like his previous book Slashtag which is still a favourite of mine.
Looking forward to reading more from the author again.

Every is Temporary by Jon Cohn was a great, light on the horror Christmas novel that you have to read. The book cover is awesome and will make sense after you start reading. This was a fun and original take on Christmas with the protagonist Tom and his family encountering an antagonist from Tom’s past. The POV’s alternate from Tom’s POV during his childhood and his wife’s POV throughout the novel. This provides suspense and keeps the plot going as you read about the past friendships and issues with serious drama in his adulthood. When Tom’s past crashes into the present, he is forced to make decisions that appear insane to others. Characters face off and what happens is completely wild! I will definitely recommend this book and read it again sometime in the future.

By looking at the cover I was thinking that this would be cheesy horror. Man was I wrong! I think I finished this book in about three hours. I fell today so I’m in a bit more pain than usual so I’m tired but this book kept me enthralled and I could NOT put it down. I didn’t even take a bathroom break. This book is a masterpiece! Well done to the author Jon Cohn. I have never read anything from you ever and I want more!!! Just, wow!
This book had me constantly guessing wrong and unlike most horror books that do not scare me I might be having some crazy dreams/nightmares tonight!
Thank you to Netgalley and the Author for allowing me to read this masterpiece (seriously, if I could give it ten stars I would)! This was an ARC I read. I was not paid for this review and this is my honest review. It was published on October 31 (my favorite day), 2023 and for those who do have it, you can get it on Kindle Unlimited but for my horror fans, you will want your own copy of this book!

Get ready to sleep with the lights on! This book takes you on a wild ride into the dark side of suburbia, where the festive glow of Christmas masks a sinister horror. Tom's descent into madness is like a ticking time bomb, and his wife Sarah must navigate a twisted tale of childhood trauma, creepy Christmas trees, and a Mrs. Claus from your worst nightmares. Is Tom losing his mind or is a true holiday horror show unfolding? You'll be on the edge of your seat as the author masterfully unwraps the layers of psychological suspense. I loved how the book kept me guessing and how it explored the idea of how well we really know our loved ones. The way the author wove together elements of psychological thrillers and horror stories was genius. I couldn't put it down! If you're looking for a thrilling page-turner that will leave you questioning everything, pick up this book. But maybe leave the lights on...

Strong horror! I loved the vibe by the end. Thanks so much for the arc I would recommend this demented work

Thank you @netgalley for the ARC of Everything is Temporary by Jon Cohn.
This is the decision I’ve read by the author and enjoyed this one, too. The story goes the line between fiction and reality and plays on fears surrounding a time of happiness for most people. I liked how the author used flashbacks through a manuscript. He kept the suspense throughout the book because you don’t know who is good and who is evil.
Tom Barnes is arrested for attempted murder and arson. He family is shocked and his wife bails him out to get to the bottom of the story. Their tween daughter has been struggling after the death of a good friend and her story and Tom’s childhood begin to intertwine. There is a house that has Christmas year round for terminally ill children. However, what seems like a place of joy becomes evil. Tom must face his past in order to save his family from the present.

A typical husband and father, Tom, has been charged with a terrible crime. His wife and daughter are shocked and struggling to make sense of it all as they await the legal repercussions. Tom, in an attempt to explain, tells his wife, Sarah, where she can find a manuscript that he had written and kept hidden for years and years.
The manuscript is a fictionalized retelling of an event that took place in his mysterious childhood that he claims explains what is happening. How fictionalized? Are these supernatural What really happened?
Going between present day and the manuscript is how the story unfolds for us. They’re both incredibly engaging. It plays out like an amalgamation of some of my favorite stories but with its own very own identity. It’s been a while since I had this hard of a time putting a book down.
It’s very early but Everything is Temporary will likely end up very high on my favorite books I’ve read this year.
If Hollywood isn’t working on bringing this to the screen, they are seriously screwing up.

Crossing the line between fantasy and reality, Tim and his wife Sarah face down a sadistic Santa, encounter a talking Christmas tree, and fight vicious candy canes, all in the name of Christmas.
This was a wonderfully creepy read and everything I was hoping it'd be for the holiday season. A nightmarish romp through Christmasland and an unlikely ending wrapped in a tantalizing, well-written tale that kept me intrigued to the very end.
Thanks to NetGalley and Deadbolt Books for providing me with a digital copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

This is a pretty fun, B-movie style Christmas horror story. Even though it focuses on the adults, it could also be a good YA read. There's not much graphic gore or violence and the children play a large role.
I also really appreciate how the book handles the sacrifices and trust in marriage. The characters feel real and, even when they're making bad decisions, it's easy to understand why they're making them.

Sarah never knew about the nightmares of her husband's childhood, not until he was suddenly arrested for attempted murder and told her to retrieve a box from the rafters of his art studio. In the battered cardboard carton is an elf costume and a book that Tom wrote, detailing the time he spent with Mrs. Claus and her house full of talking ornaments, what started out as friendship and turned quickly to a horrific nightmare. Now, Tom warns her, the monster is after their teenage daughter. I enjoyed this quick read and found myself more interested in Sarah's situation than the horror elements. The monstrous candy canes and figurines are fun, but I was more worried about how Sarah was going to keep her family together.
