Alright, I enjoyed the characters much more in this book than Lottie and Huxley in book one. JP is certainly the better brother in my opinion. I think the dialogue in book two was written a little better. Another note is I am absolutely LOVING the new covers! I am happy I continued with the series, I would say that A Not So Meet Cute and a So Not Meant to Be are great to get you out of a reading slump if you're in one, they're faced paced and easy to read. I would certainly say give this book a ready if you've read the first one, or even if you haven't. They're essentially connected standalones? This is not a revolutionary romance, but it is certainly a fun one with a touch of spice.
I am a big Fan of Meghan Quinn. However, this novel just wasn’t for me. Even though it is an ‘enemies to lovers’ I just couldn’t get past how abrasive Kelsey was. I just couldn’t finish it.
Super cute, and a fast read! I loved how the author played on the enemies to lovers by mixing up a classic romcom.
It was hilarious, and I couldn’t stop reading it!
This book was quirky, cute and JP had me rolling g! This man did not know how to process his emotions but the patience Kelsey had with him and him with her made my heart happy!
These two are so out there and their story was just as out there but that’s what I loved about it! It was so original and I loved that I didn’t know what was going to happen but couldn’t wait to find out!
These two were cute and the perfect book to end my weekend with!
3.5 Stars So Not Meant to Be was a great follow up to the first novel in the Cane Brothers series, A Not So Meet Cute, but it wasn’t better than the first. This book is partially inspired by When Harry Met Sally (since all of the books in this series are inspired by classic rom coms), but with the MCs as enemies to lovers rather than friends to lovers. There’s a lot of animosity between the MCs, Kelsey and JP, the respective siblings of the MCs from the first book. It truly seems like Kelsey and JP could never be a couple, but things change after they are forced to live in close quarters while on a business trip. It’s a long road for these two, but the journey is worth the read.
This is my first book from this author, so I was more than excited to read this enemies to lover's romance story. Unfortunately, I have to say that this story just didn't work for me, and the main reason was because of the main female character Kelsey. I think if maybe I had read the first Cane Brothers story that her actions and feelings might have not thrown me off her character so fast but because I didn't read the first story, I just couldn't get with her animosity and dislike of JP so much. JP was the best thing to happen to this story for me. I loved him! I thought his character deserved someone better than Kelsey and I enjoy a good enemy to lovers' story but this one didn't work for me because I couldn't connect with Kelsey. I wanted to like her, but she just kept giving me reasons of why I shouldn't and by the time I liked her a little it wasn't enough to save this story for me. Another thing that bothered me about this story was the flow of it. I felt as if the story moved at such a slow pace making the whole story drag. I found myself losing interest in this story more than a few times. I wish I had loved it. I wanted to love it, but I didn't. However, I will say that just because this story wasn't the one for me doesn't mean that it won't be for others so I would recommend readers giving the story a try to see if it's the story for them.
I was so happy to see different and more discreet covers on this book! I kept hearing about this book through the BookTok community, namely the first in the series ( A Not So Meet Cute) which I also just finished reading. My biggest reason for not ever picking the books up, despite how good I kept hearing they were, were the original covers. So the new covers made me dive right in!! I have read a few Quinn novels here and there and this one was not really my favorite. Kelsey was kind of annoying if I’m honest. And it didn’t seem like JP and Kelsey were the most suited for each other due to their differing personalities. The spiciness was pretty good! This novel did make me giggle at times but not nearly as much as the first in the series. I absolutely LOVED that the podcasts were different characters from Quinn novels. I had a great time searching up which novel of Quinn’s that each of the podcast characters came from. *adding those to my tbr*. It was a little bit of a slower burn than perhaps I would’ve liked, but I still did enjoy reading it.
I love the new cover of this second book in the series! The tropes for this one are: enemies to lovers, forced proximity and workplace romance. Meghan Quinn never disappoints with her laugh out loud romances filled with tons of spice. I also enjoy the humor and banter between the characters, and this one was right on par. I did enjoy book #1 more than this one, but I still really enjoyed this one as well. This can be read as a stand alone, however Lottie and Huxley from book one are heavily involved as they are the brother and sister of these two characters. Looking forward to reading book #3.
Thanks to Netgalley and SOURCEBOOKS Bloom Books, Bloom Books for a digital copy.
This was a really good romcom. I’m glad I continued with this series after the just okay first book because I really liked this one. I see why people like MQ’s books because this was a lot of fun. There was good banter, the romance was cute, the characters were good and it was spicy. I really need to watch When Harry Met Sally because after reading this it seems like it would be fun. There was a 3rd act breakup at 90% which I wasn’t here for but it all ended up good. I loved seeing the characters from book one and I def liked them more in other people’s pov. Overall a good read definitely read if you like romcoms.
Read if you like:
- Enemies to lovers
- When Harry Met Sally
- Lots of spice
- Billionaires
- Work place romance
Thanks to Netgalley, the publisher and or the author for giving me the chance to read and review So Not Not Meant to Be.
Love everything about this book from the characters to the plot, the author out did herself.
4/5 stars! I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. So Not Meant To Be is the second book in the Cane Brothers trilogy. I have not read the other two books yet but I have to now! Thank you to Netgalley, Meghan Quinn and Sourcebooks Bloom Books for an opportunity to read this book.
I think about JP every single day. This hero cannot be overstated he is a charmer a delight and a catch! What an exceptional second couple. I thought sisters loving brothers would get a little weird but it was so much fun and so hot. 11/10
OMG! This book is hilarious! So many literal laughing out loud, snort laughing, spitting out drink/food laughing moments. I want to take up residence in Meghan Quinn’s head where all these wonderful stories live and never, ever leave. This take on enemies to friends to lovers is superb. The banter between JP and Kelsey is top notch. While I laughed a lot, my heart hurt for JP so many times. He is just a misunderstood cinnamon roll that Kelsey had to push through insecurities to fully appreciate. I got a copy with the illustrations and they are fantastic.
If you need a pick me up, then pick up this book. Save the pigeons!
‘So Not Meant to Be’ was advertised to have been inspired by ‘When Harry Met Sally,’ I love that movie, it’s literally my favourite rom-com. Naturally, I was excited to read this book. Well, I was a little disappointed because Kelsey and JP’s relationship were not like Harry and Sally’s. The only similarities this book has with the movie are like maybe three things: the podcast about how couples met, the double date scene, and JP’s insistence that men and women (especially if they work together in a professional sense) can never be friends. I know this book isn’t supposed to capture everything about the movie but to be honest, I’ve read better books that are inspired by ‘When Harry Met Sally’ as well. That doesn’t mean I didn’t enjoy reading this book. I love how JP is literally head over heels desperately in love with Kelsey. It was heartbreaking at times but it was still fun to read. I find JP’s interest in saving pigeons endearing. Like of all animals, he really took a big interest on pigeons. I related a lot with Kelsey. Her love for romance and her insecurities. I’m so happy she and JP found each other.
Thank you NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Kelsey and JP work together. According to him, men and women can't be just friends. According to her, they are so not meant to be...
This friends to lovers, forced proximity, When Harry Met Sally romance is book 2 in the Cane Brothers series, and it did not hit quite as much as book 1... I liked Kelsey much better in the first book. I feel like she did a personality 180 in this one that I didn't either get or liked. She was super judgmental and kind of a bitch. And since when does she have a podcast? It's not mentioned once in book 1, and yet it seems to be pretty well established in this one. This doesn't make sense to me. If you want to write a completely different character, write a completely different character, do not change one that already had a very good presence in the previous books. The premise was good. JP was awesome. But Kelsey ruined this book for me.
I received an advanced review copy of this book for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
I really liked watching Kelsey and JP's banter and animosity turn around. The scenes at the ball made me really start rooting for them, and then their forced proximity work trip to San Francisco had a lot of funny moments but it was also great to watch them get to know each other.
Another thing I loved was the true love podcast snippets in Kelsey's chapters - it was really fun to get a quick bit from some of Meghan Quinn's other great couples.
Reading this without first reading A Not So Meet Cute is a mistake, since Kelsey and JP meet in that book and it's about their siblings.
I’ve rarely laughed while reading a book as much as I have with So Not Meant to Be. From JP’s personality to his love for pigeons, I enjoyed all the shenanigans. I loved the banter between the main couple as well as the Cane Brothers interactions with each other (Breaker being my favorite). However, some of the plot points and character personalities entertained me while also slightly irritating me. But overall, I found this book both hilarious and charming. It’s perfect for anyone looking for a great romance involving billionaires and plausible, bizarre antics.
This was a laugh out, loud, fun romance that kept me entertained from start to finish. I loved the chemistry between JP and Kelsey. There was banter that kept me laughing throughout the book. It’s a really fun book with interesting characters and if you want a fun romcom to make your day this is the book for you.
*Swoon*
Meghan Quinn is just an amazing author, every single one of her characters are so likeable.
The story of JP and Kelsey was sweet and spicy. Their feisty nature and banter left me in stitches.
I'm looking forward to seeing what's in store for the next Cane brother.
Thank you Netgalley for allowing me an ARC of So Not Meant To Be for my honest review.
"So Not Meant to Be" by Meghan Quinn is a lively romantic novel that explores the dynamics between Kelsey Gardner and JP Cane, who find themselves forced into close quarters during a work trip to San Francisco. The story is filled with humor, undeniable chemistry, and the challenges of navigating the blurred lines between friendship and something more. As roommates in a shared penthouse, Kelsey and JP must confront their differences and undeniable attraction. The narrative promises a delightful journey of self-discovery, unexpected connections, and the possibility that, despite initial impressions, they might be more compatible than they think. Quinn's writing style is engaging, making this book an enjoyable read for fans of contemporary romance.
