Wow! Frieda killed it again! What a fab read loved it! Did not see the end coming lots if twists and turned. great read
!
A great plot with so many twists that it’ll give you whiplash.
I was sucked in immediately until about halfway through when the subject matter got a little difficult to read and I had to take a break. I loved the ending, though it was unrealistic, but the epilogue had me a little frustrated. The last plot twist, which Freida is known to throw in the prologues, left some flaws in the timelines in previous chapters.
Other than that, I found this to be a great read! Freida’s writing style makes it very easy to read, even for somebody like me who struggles to focus.
I'd like to thank Poisoned Press & Netgalley for giving me an ARC in exchange for my honest review.
Addy is accused of doing some pretty inappropriate things with a former teacher. So when she ends up in the handsome Mr. Bennett's class, it's no surprise when things take a turn for the worse.
This book was.. WILD. Halfway through, I was convinced I knew what was going to happen.. Fast forward to the end, and I was slapped in the face with a huge OMG moment in the final chapter (epilogue) that I never would have guessed. Well done, Freida! This is the best book you've released in quite some time.
One of my top favorite books by Freida McFadden, The Teacher is a riveting thriller that will stick with me for a while. I was hooked from the first sentence and did not want to stop until the end. It dangles just enough surprises to keep the story interesting but not overwhelming.
Written in multi-character perspectives, the story is plot driven with scandals, revenge, secrets, and so much more. I am left wanting more!
Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC copy. This review is my personal opinion and I have and will not receive any compensation for it.
Thank you to NetGalley and Poisoned Pen Press for letting me read The Teacher in exchange for my honest review. Let me start by saying that Freida McFadden is my absolute favorite author, I will always automatically read everything she writes, without reading the description. This one as usual blew me away and the twists at the end were so unexpected!! The only reason I am giving this 4 stars is due to some subject matter that I did not entirely agree with.
Sex, scandal, and bad poetry. That pretty much sums up the average high school experience. But nothing is typical when Freida McFadden enters the scene. Once again, she takes the reader on a wild ride with unpredictable twists and turns. Five-Stars.
A Compulsively twisty thriller, with characters so complicated that it's hard to figure out who the real villain is. Kept me guessing until the glorious final twist.
“The Teacher" is a meticulously crafted masterpiece that kept me on the edge of my seat until the very last page. The unexpected twist left me in awe, showcasing the author's unparalleled storytelling prowess. It's undoubtedly one of her finest works, and being among the first to read it felt like uncovering a literary gem. I consider myself fortunate to have experienced the magic of this five-star book.
Thank you to Netgalley and Sourcebooks for an e-ARC of this book. All opinions are my own.
This book was absolutely PHENOMENAL. Like McFadden's other works, this is a fast read. There's nothing better than a nice short book that grips you that you can finish in a couple days. Previously my favorite of hers was "The Inmate", but this has topped that.
The first thing I enjoyed was that this was different. Her previous few books have been about doctors/nurses or set in hospitals. This is a completely different world, set in a high school and she clearly did some excellent research. The only thing I found unrealistic about this high school is the type of bullying that goes on throughout the book. Most modern high schools would notice and do something about physical bullying. Nowadays, kids mostly bully online via social media. (From personal experience, being in my 20s.) This book reminded me more of the type of bullying that would occur in the 80s or 90s.
Other than that, I loved it. It's a typical "you think you know how it's going to end, but you don't". So many unexpected twists and turns, especially near the end. If you like Lifetime movies or "My Dark Vanessa" by Kate Russell, you'll love this book.
Freida McFadden does not disappoint in this new psychological thriller. Twists and turns continue throughout the book bringing the story to life. This book will keep you reading until the very last page.
Freida has done it again. This took me longer to get through then her normal book, but that's due to my job as a teacher. As soon as I read the blurb & saw the title I couldn't wait to read this. The characters were relatable and engaging. The twist at the end had my mouth hanging open!
I have been dying to get my hands on a copy of this book since I saw the first announcement. Many thanks to Freida McFadden and Poisoned Pen Press for an opportunity to read this one early.
I was a bit nervous going into this one because, as a teacher, I can be a bit finicky about the way that school culture and politics are portrayed in literature. I can quickly lose interest and engagement with a story if I find myself thinking "That would NEVER happen like that at a high school!" or "That's definitely not how that process works," but none of the depictions of the procedures or policies at the school had me doubting the realism in this one. There was *one* small scene depicting a teacher writing a note giving a student permission to go home early that made me raise an eyebrow, but I could easily chalk that up to regional differences...just because that's not how it's done at my school in CA doesn't mean they don't do things that way on the East Coast.
With that being said, Eve's shoe collection required willing suspension of disbelief in a major way, but not in a way that detracted from the story at all. Although every mention of a new pair of expensive shoes, or attempt to acquire a new pair of expensive shoes, did bring my blood pressure up a bit. And that scene in the mall sure made my anxiety spike.
As is common with Freida's books, by around the halfway point I was pretty certain I had it figured out and for the first time I was actually right! However, the Queen of Twists did not disappoint and still managed to surprise me several times in the last half, too.
This was one of my favorite Freida reads so far. It had me worried, enraged, anxious, feeling vindicated, and then full of rage again. Any book that can make me feel something so viscerally is a 5-star for me.
I have read all of Freida's books, and this one was...different.
To say I was truly surprised at the end is an understatement. I put my kindle down on my desk (because I was reading at work, I know, but hush it's the holidays) and said a couple of confused obscenities aloud. I wasn't ready for it to be over when it was, but I will think about this for a good long while. Maybe I should reread.
This is my second foray into a Freida McFadden book, and I have to say - girl knows how to hook you. What you are absolutely going to get out of one of her novels - It's going to be a super quick read, because she's always going to tell a good story. It's camp - are we jumping the shark, maybe 1, 2 or 3 times in a single novel - of course we are but that's most of the fun. You thought this was a simple story of a teacher / student love affair? Nope. There's murder and a whodunit and a half-hearted but not completely lost angle of The Raven from Poe. It's nuts. This ending made me gasp out loud and then laugh about the genius of it.
Of course what you're also going to get is a thumping over the head - there is no subtlety here. If McFadden wants you to know that someone is digging a grave she is going to DIG THAT GRAVE IN THE DARK OF NIGHT UNTIL YOU READERS GET IT! OKAY! Also, some things aren't going to quite add up - for this one in particular the main character is in love with shoes, which ends up being a repeating plot point that just can't quite stick the landing. For all the time spent talking about shoes, I'm not quite sure that the author didn't just do a google search of expensive shoe brands and leave it at that. With that being said - the author does a great job at easter eggs in this novel. A silly plot point that you thought was left in Chapter 5 suddenly makes perfect sense in Chapter 14. McFadden does a great job of pulling the reader along with them and forcing them to recognize the clues that she's done such a good job of incorporating. Always a fun reading experience!
Okay, Freida did it again. I read this in one day! Her books always tend to be page turners for me but I liked this one more than the last one that I read (The Coworker). Of course, true to her style there are parts that are way over the top and every character seems unreliable and unhinged with things they’re hiding. Right when I thought I had it all figured out, the final twist took me totally by surprise and it took me a good 10 minutes to even process it. But that’s all part of the rollercoaster ride!
Quick synopsis: Addie is starting junior year after she was involved in a scandal with a teacher, resulting in him getting fired and her reputation getting ruined. Eve and her husband Nate both teach at the same school, and while they seem happy on the surface they’re really not. All three of these characters are keeping big secrets that are all connected in some way.
Thanks to NetGalley for an early copy of this book before it’s released on February 6th!
Thank you so much NetGalley and Poisoned Pen Press for this ARC! If I had to pick one word to sum this one up it would be, “WOW!” Twist after Twist Freida really delivered! I was super excited for this one and I’m going as far to say it is my new favorite book of hers!
Wow, I’m shaking. I just finished reading this on my lunch break and I feel like I need to cancel the rest of my work day because how am I supposed to function after reading this?! This is absolutely Freida McFadden’s best book yet. Every part was better than the one before and the epilogue just blew me away. Incredible book.
Thank you to the author, NetGalley, and Poisoned Pen Press for the Advance Reader copy. This is my honest review. Publication date Feb 5, 2024. 5⭐️
I will start out by saying I am a huge Freida McFan so I was very excited to receive an ARC of The Teacher! I read this book in less than 24 hours just like every other book I’ve ever read by her. She has a way of drawing her reader in and keeping them intrigued. Check your trigger warnings on this one before you embark on this journey.
Sixteen-year-old Addie is struggling with being alienated and bullied by her peers when she finds unlikely companionship in her very charming and extremely handsome English teacher, Nathanial “Nate” Bennett. The twists and turns just kept coming in true Freida style. By the end of the book, I swear my mouth was just hanging open. Like what did I just read?!? 🤣
Freida is the queen!
Another ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ book from Freida McFadden! I think it’s even better than The Housemaid! I did not see that final twist coming at all! I loved the alternating POVs throughout the book!!
Wow ! Freida does it again. The plot twists at the end were just wild. I never saw it coming. I’m not usually a fan of books about teacher and student relationships but I couldn’t put this book down.
