I recently purchased an iPad and I have been searching for a handy guide for digital drawing. Lo and behold, Drawing Digital! While most of the directions for using tools revolve around Procreate, I found I was able to follow a lot of the steps in just about any app. I also love the fundamental practice steps for drawing shapes, first use of layers, and how to apply certain effects. This is definitely a book I'll continue to reference in my artistic journey. Thank you to NetGalley and Walter Foster Publishing for an advance copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
I am so unbelievably happy with this book. The tips and tricks are mega helpful for a newbie like me. 5 stars!
This is an extremely comprehensive guide to Procreate. It begins with very basic information for a beginner and progresses including sections on layers and colour theory. The book also includes projects for the user to try their new skills in practice.
I can’t wait to get started learning how to make the most of Procreate with this book and hopefully start drawing identifiable things!
As someone whose always been fascinated with the art of digital drawing, this book peaked my interest straight away. I've always wanted to be able to master digital drawing, but always struggled to understand all the different types of software, brushes, techniques, etc. Hence, I've had an apple pencil that has yet to be used haha!
But this book changed that. The way it's broken down is super informative & in-depth, it really does touch on every single facet of digital art. Every question I had, this book answered in clear & concise detail. This will 100% be one that I come back to time & time again - amazingly useful & accessible, I love it!
As a watercolour artist only just now beginning to expand into digital art, so this book is incredibly timely for me.
Digital Drawing by Lisa Bardot is a comprehensive guide to both drawing as a concept, and the techniques and skills unique to the digital world. While the book does specialise in the tools and features of the Procreate app on the iPad, all of these techniques and skills are easily transferrable to other platforms and software (I use Sketchbook on an Android device).
The book opens with a guide to suggested devices and a basic overview of resolution and canvas sizes. We have a refresher course in drawing - as drawing on a device feels a bit different to paper! - before launching into projects and playing with the software properly: the layers, the brushes, the masks and blends, colour theory (traditional and digital) and lighting, and much, much more.
I really like the way this book jumps between traditional art theories and techniques and the digital skills to put the lessons into practice - it's not all layers and presets but an art form of its own that still requires work. This will be a reference book I will come back to again and again as I explore my art.

I do a lot of things online and customizing images is something I’ve always wanted to do. This little manual has done the unthinkable. It’s taught me EVERYTHING I need to know about drawing digitally. From tips and tools to file formatting. from types of lines to shapes, this amazing little book needs to be in your hands if you’ve ever wanted to learn how to use digital programs to draw.
This book is exactly what I needed at this moment in my life.
I have had Procreate on my ipad for years and only dabbled here and there because I didn’t fully learn and understand the system. I wanted to always dive deeper. This books does that and more!
It is so informative and explains everything so thoroughly from start to finish. I am so thankful for this book. It has ignited my love for drawing!

The best content for the ones who (like me) would like to know how to develop digital design and art skills. I liked the writing and also the apps and tools tips that has been topped to the reader. It a complete guide for everyone interested in the subject! Well done!
It is the perfect book for beginners who are curious about digital drawing, and hence it suits me perfectly. It starts off with the necessary software and hardware and then moves on to the basics of drawing on ipads.
Read and reviewed by my 16 year old creative and artistic son. Here’s what he had to say:
There are so many different categories in this book that gives you good support and tools that it’s hard not to want to draw straight away.

I have been using procreate for almost 4 years, and have followed many a @lisabardot YouTube tutorial so when I was able to snag this review copy of her digital drawing book I was so excited! I’m pretty well rehearsed in using Procreate so I wasn’t so sure this would be for me, BUT THIS BOOK HAS EVERYTHING! Perfect for the newest beginner in digital drawing to the expert who thinks they could possibly not learn anything that they don’t already know!
This is truly a digital drawing “bible” that I could see me going back to time after time again. Also it not only has technical program how-tos it also has several sections of fundamental drawing how-tos which really appealed to me as I’m not the strongest at drawing! So if you see my Bookstagram pics getting even better, you know what and who to blame😂😂😂
5.00⭐️ (Even though I wish I could give so many more)
Special thanks to @walterfoster publishing and @netgalley for the copy of this book to read and review prior to publishing.

As a professional artist working in the industry (and has to draw digitally pretty regularly!), I found that Lisa Bardot's guide, Drawing Digital, to be fairly informative and educational to a beginner that's new to art.
The book focuses mostly on digital drawing on the iPad Procreate app and I found the layout of the book to be quite aesthetic and easy to follow. Bardot includes some illustrations to follow along her instructions, which are charming and pleasing to look at. She begins the book with basic techniques, such as linework and color theory, and ends with more complex guides, such as those for animal anatomy and facial structure.
All in all, a wonderful book to gift to a budding digital artist!
