I have been drawing various cats from here. It took me awhile with the proportions from top of head to ears, but I feel like I'm getting the hang of these cute cat drawings.
While the topic is cute, even for children, this book seems limited and unimaginative. It gives very vague tips on copying specific pictures instead of guidance on how to draw in the particular style of art. I would only suggest it for children who really enjoy copying pictures in this style.
I want to draw all the kitties in this book! I am not a natural drawer and I was never really taught or encouraged to draw as a child so this book gives my heart such joy. It is laid out so easily starting with overall general information such as drawing tools, body shapes, facial expressions and colouring the body markings. I especially appreciated the information on digital tools also being included for those who want that information.
Then the fun begins with drawing the kitties. The step-by-step instructions are easy to follow. And there is a fun collection of sections that includes cat activities, cats being curious and some drawings of cats as unicorns, bees, crepes and macarons.
This is a great book for all ages who want to doodle and have some fun.
Thank you to NetGalley and Quarto Publishing Group – Rock Point for an arc of this book.
This is such an adorable drawing book. I like the way the book is laid out. The store rooms are easy to follow. I have no previous drawing experience and I was able to follow the directions and draw a couple of cute kitties! Looking forward to drawing more.
What a cute book! The directions were easy to follow, the prompts were fun, and the sections of the book were well planned. My only dislike would be the many uses of “fat” as the adjective (more negative) versus ‘chonky’ (adorably positive).
This was very fun and informative. I really enjoyed this and it has helped with my drawing practice. My doodles have gotten much better!
I find Kawaii drawing to be appealing and sweet in general and that is certainly the case here. The book opens with sections on what kawaii is, how to use the book, tools and more. Next come the adorable kittens. Artists can learn to draw them at playtime, while being curious, in food related scenarios, and more. The directions are clear and will help doodlers to make satisfying illustrations. Truly delightful.
Many thanks to NetGalley and Quarto Publishing Group for this title. All opinions are my own.
My eight year old daughter loves this book. She enjoys drawing and was able to easily follow the instructions to do her own kawaii drawings. The book is presented beautifully and has become a favourite.
Super cute and easy to follow instructions. This book is adorable and provides the reader with step by step instructions on how to draw adorable cats in different poses. Thank you NetGalley for an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I am bad at drawing but even I can create cute kitties following these instructions. Obviously this book is kawaii, in other words über cute and you won't get any realistic looking drawings here. If this is your style though this book is amazing for kids and adults alike.
This book is ADORABLE! I drew several of the kitties all over my planner and will likely use this book again to doodle more. It was easy to use for the non-artistic (aka me)!
*Thank you to NetGalley and Quarto Publishing Group - Rock Point for an Advanced Reader's Copy (ARC) of this book in exchange for my honest opinion.
Brilliant guide to drawing Kawaii Kitties that my kids absolutely loved. The step by step guides are so easy to follow and each figure has a cute name and character! Loved it!
This was SO FUN! I cant wait for it to be published so I can buy a copy for my kids who love these type of drawings.
Really cute and easy to fellow. I absolutely loves cats so I loved looking at and trying to draw these Kawaii cuties.
What a cute book! It’s perfect to help my daughter learn how to draw cats. The instructions broke down how to complete the drawings in clear easy steps. Perfect for all levels!
The instructions on how to draw these kitties are detailed enough that I could follow with no skill. My drawings were still awful, but I feel like with practice I could manage something close to what these show. There is an entire section on dinosaurs and I immediately wanted to force someone more artistic than me to draw them. The coloring pages in the back were an excellent touch. I really enjoyed it.

"Kawaii Kitties" by Bichi Mao is an absolutely adorable and fun book that deserves a five-star rating. This is a delightful collection of 75 step-by-step tutorials that taught me how to draw cute cats in various playful and endearing scenarios.
Bichi Mao, a popular Instagram artist known for her kawaii art aesthetic, perfectly captures the different attitudes and activities of cats, from playing and sleeping to eating and exploring. The tutorials are not only easy to follow but also incredibly enjoyable, making it accessible for artists of all skill levels.
What sets this book apart is its comprehensive approach to teaching. In addition to the step-by-step tutorials, Mao provides readers with valuable insights, including an introduction to the kawaii art aesthetic, suggestions for drawing tools, and tips and tricks for drawing and coloring cats. This guidance enhances the learning experience and encourages readers to develop their drawing skills.
The inclusion of a facial expression directory was particularly helpful for me as I was looking to capture the unique personalities and moods of their feline characters. Additionally, the coloring pages filled with adorable kitties offered a creative outlet to decorate and personalize my drawings.
In summary, "Kawaii Kitties" is a five-star gem that will delight cat lovers and artists alike. Bichi Mao's charming illustrations and easy-to-follow tutorials make this book a fantastic resource for anyone looking to master the art of drawing cute cats. Whether you're a beginner or an experienced artist, this book is a purrfect addition to your collection, inspiring you to create your own adorable kitty characters and capture the daily activities of your favorite pets.
This was an adorable tutorial for everyone's favorite subject! Kitties!!
I loved the introductory pages that provided detailed instructions on basic features. I lack any real artistic talent and was able to draw a cute little kitty with these instructions!
The individual chapters were so fun with the costumes and food options being my favorite. My middle school and elementary aged kids are going to love this. There's something for each of them, including my personal favorite the "Catosaurus".
This book is so cute!!! It may be mini but filled with tons of adorable kitties and each illustration comes with step by step instructions that make it easy to replicate. I enjoyed the introduction information in the front of the book about materials and what kawaii is. The next step is just introducing you to the basic parts of the kitties like body, head, leg and tail shape and then moves into facial expressions and colouration. This is super helpful for when you want to try your hand at a something on your own later. The next part of the book is step by step guidance to draw some adorable kitties in different playful positions that all have cute names like “The Communicator” who looks to be trying to have a chat with a little bird or “The Box Tester” who is adorable stuffing themselves into a barely big enough box. The chapter ‘Playing Dress-up’ was my absolute favours especially the Bumble Cat and Unimeow. Talk about cuteness overload! I also appreciated the chapter ‘Discovering Breeds’ as it shows you different breeds and their distinct colourations. I could see kids and adults alike spending lots of time with this book, enjoying learning Olive’s distinct style and the adorableness of these little kitties.
Thanks to Netgalley for the opportunity to check out an advanced reader digital copy of this book. I had a lot of fun learning more about Kawaii illustration and drawing adorable kitties.
Nice book giving step by step instructions on how to draw cats with different attitudes, behaviours, styles, and characters. Each new step is given in a different colour which makes following a lot easier. One difficulty that beginners may find is that shape guidelines are not given so there will be a lot of wonky cats at first. But I still think anyone with a bit of enthusiasm and willingness to practise can come up with decently cute cats with the help of this book.
Looking forward to portraying my daughter’s cat in all sorts of styles!
