Wow! Lisa Hall delivers once again. This was a fast paced read that kept me totally invested. Hooked early on and flipped pages long into the night. Lots of dark and creepy vibes, super unsettling. Fantastic characters! Don’t miss the twists and turns on this book.

Another great read from Lisa Hall. Becky returns to the Island she left as a teenager 16 years earlier. In the middle of writing her second true crime book she becomes involved in investigating what happened to a teenage girl who disappeared from the island a year ago. Whilst on the island she also has to face her past when people on the island react to her returning.
Really good psychological thriller type book.

This was gifted by the publisher & netgalley for reviewing purposes.

On a remote island, we have a missing girl and a woman with a troubled past. Sounds like a recipe for disaster, right? Becky used to live on a tiny good for nothing little island and she swore that she was never going to come back to her childhood home. So why is she here right now? The only person that she really likes in town is her best friend Megan otherwise the people on the island are not a fan of her as they have a lot of long, not so great memories together. There was a scandal they blamed Becky for something and Becky left pretty simple, right? Becky‘s back because her sister disappeared a year ago and everyone thinks that she left of her own free will, but her main character isn’t quite so sure about that , she’s determined to figure out what happened to her sister and if somebody on this remote island knows what’s going on and just don’t wanna say anything because of her family. Of course, as she learns more she realizes just how dark the secrets get on the island and I she begins to uncover more clues. Another teenage girl goes missing.

This is everything that I love in a thriller, we have an isolated setting, we have somebody revisiting trouble past we have missing girls, we have secrets being found out and that promtps other people to go missing. Truly, the set up of this is everything that I enjoy in a thriller and I will say that I really enjoyed this one too. It wasn’t anything out of the ordinary or twists that I haven’t seen before, but something about the writing style and the atmosphere really just brought everything together for me.

The Day She Disappeared by Lisa Hall was terrific! It was one of those books you cannot put down, even if you try. It's the story of Rebecca "Becky" Gannon, successful London author, who hasn't been home to Kirton Island in 16 years. She hasn't been back in over a decade because of a terrible tragedy that Rebecca feels personably responsible! "The secret" is always looming, always surrounding her, but the reader doesn't know what it is! Becky returns home to see her sick mother, but she is too late, her mother dies before she can say "goodbye." Early on in her homecoming Becky is shown, in many different ways, that she isn't wanted on the small touristy island. There are a series of threats made to Becky to intimidate her, to send her away and keep her from working on her new novel about women and girls who've disappeared. Conveniently enough, Kirton has it's own missing girl case. While she readies her mother's house for sale, she starts working on the mysterious disappearance of Ivy Monroe, Becky becomes suspicious of everyone who could have possibly been involved. Are townspeople being hostile to Becky because of her own blemished past or are they involved with Ivy, the young girl who disappeared after a school function so many months ago? Throughout the book you wonder if Rebecca and Megan, who were the best of friends 16 years ago, will be able to repair their damaged relationship. Megan understandably has some resentment about her friend leaving for London and never being heard from again. Will Rebecca and Stephen embark on the serious, committed relationship she so deeply desires? The whole town of Kirton knows Rebecca's secrets, but eventually Rebecca will uncover the secrets of the people in her small community and discover the evil that resides there.

Of course in every murder mystery there's a 'who done it' to be revealed, but Lisa Hall does an amazing job of keeping the reader second guessing everyone! I suspected every single character for the abduction and/or murder of Ivy Monroe. Ms. Hall does a great job of keeping Rebecca's secret from the reader, until she's ready to dramatically reveal it. "I am going back.....(to) the Island that I swore blind I never would, could never return to, not after what happened, what I did."

Thank you Net Galley, Joffe Books, and Lisa Hall for the opportunity to read this eARC and provide an honest review. Readers, do yourself a favor and give this book a read, you won't be disappointed! Publication day coming this October 9th, 2023!

A fantastic book I absolutely loved this latest one by Lisa Hall.

A remote island. A missing girl. A woman with a troubled past.

Becky is back on the tiny island where she was born, the island she swore she’d never return to.

Apart from her former best friend Megan, everyone makes it clear she isn’t wanted. The islanders have long memories. They haven’t forgotten the scandal. What Becky did.

Becky decides to leave as soon as she can. But first she must discover what happened to Violet.

Violet disappeared exactly a year ago, the day of the summer festival. Everyone assumes she ran off to the mainland with her boyfriend. Only her sister believes something more sinister happened to her.

This book kept me reading into the night.

Becky returns to the island. Most don't want here there. She goes anyway. Soon she realizes it might have not been a good idea to return. This talented author has written a story of mystery and intrigue. A page turner with secrets and red herrings. Realistic characters keep the story moving quickly. Thanks to Netgalley.

An ok read for me but nothing that got me really excited.
It really didn't take me long to work out who was the villain and some parts seemed very repetitive.
Maybe i have read to many thrillers of late because this just didn't do it for me.
Hate giving negative reviews but i found the whole thing rather mediocre.
My thanks to netgalley and the publisher for my copy.

Sadly I found this book to be very middle-of-the-road. It could be ok if you've never read a thriller before, but this kind of plot has been done so many times before, and there was nothing about this story to make it fresh or exciting.

I did like the setting - the author did a good job of portraying a small, claustrophobic community. The characters felt realistic and the dialogue was natural.

I guessed all the reveals - Becky's secret, the bad guys - none of it came as anywhere close to a surprise. The book also contained all the tropes I hate - not calling the police, not changing the locks or getting security cameras even after multiple break-ins, latching on to one suspect and refusing to consider it could be anyone else.

Overall I wouldn't particularly recommend the book but it was readable and it had some good features.

The day she disappeared was a great suspenseful read it was one of those heart pounding thrillers where you needed to know what was going to happen but didn’t want it to end as it was so good. The setting of book was beautiful very isolated which helped build up the suspense.

Sixteen years Becky has been living in London as a journalist. She left her isolated community when she was eighteen leaving behind her mother and best friend. Being back on the island has dredged up old feelings. Becky tries to make amends for her past choices, but some community members still want her gone. Becky is determined to write her crime novel focusing on the disappearance of Violet. She’s not leaving until she finds out what happened because someone on this island knows.

Fantastic thriller which I will be recommending to everyone. Thanks to netgallery and the publisher for my advanced copy.

A remote island. A missing girl. A woman with a troubled past.

This could have ended up really cliché and over-done but it doesn't feel that way. The author pulls off a great story with intriguing plot twists.

We follow Rebecca "Becky" who goes back home to a small island in the English Channel after her mother passes away, but almost no one wants her around. 16 years ago something happened and the island never forgets. But Becky isn't scared away easily she stays (mainly) to find out what happened to Violet Monroe, she disappeared after last years summer festival and Becky is one of the only people who doesn't think she left the island and went back to the mainland.

Becky's secret took a long time to be revealed but when it was I did not see it coming. I loved the vibes of this book, you just did not know who to believe or trust. This wasn't just a mystery thriller but it was also a book with a big theme of discovery which was done really well.

I liked the character of Becky most of the time, I wondered why she didn't call the police earlier because of break ins and stuff being left on her doorstep but after the reaction from the police I can understand why she wouldn't. I found Megan to be confusing because she made Becky come back when she didn't even want her back. I suspected Gabe, Stephan and Owen from the start, I loved how their stories evolved throughout the book.

This is my second Lisa Hall read and I am definitely interested in reading more of their work.

Thank you to NetGalley, Lisa Hall and the publisher for the ARC, all opinions are my own.

For the last sixteen years Becky has been living in London as a journalist. Becky’s aiming for a second chance to right the wrong of the past.

Lisa Hall captures readers attention by referencing to Becky’s past. Becky’s past mistake was the catalyst for her leaving her mother alone. Sixteen years ago she did something unforgivable that ostracized her from family and friends. Lisa Hall dangles this big secret around keeping readers clutching at pieces of information to fit the puzzle pieces together. In some ways it’s a formulaic process that seems to work for Lisa Hall. After reading a few of her books I’ve figured out her strategy. Some revelations still come as a shock to readers. Deducing who’s involved is easy. Figuring out the secret and reason is not.

Lisa Hall is clever with how she arouses suspicion in her characters. It certainly leads to speculation. What’s even better is that the reader never really knows what to believe. There’s usually a perfectly good explanation for everything…all in due time.

The Day She Disappeared by Lisa Hall is a psychological thriller with an unexpected twist.

The story is atmospheric and suspenseful enough to hold my interest throughout. There were some slow parts, making it a slow-burn read, but overall, it was a solid read. There are definitely lots of secrets with the characters. The author develops the characters well and provides intriguing descriptions.

I hope to read more by this author. I would recommend this book.

The characters all have depth and the plot keeps ypu guessing until the end woth many twists and red herrings along the way.
It is well written with chapters of a good length and really pulls you into the story making it a book that isn't easy to put down once started.

Heart pounding thriller that left me on the edge of my seat. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this one. Definitely one of the best books this year.

When Rebecca arrives back on the remote island of Kirton where she grew up and swore she would never return to there is a lot happening in her life and on the island. It seems they haven't forgiven her for something that happened in her past. We come to find out that the true crime author has a lot hidden in her own past and to top it off, there is a missing girl from the island where everyone knows everyone and everything.

This was definitely a slow burn, "locked room" thriller for me. You are introduced to a variety of characters and for the most part you like them as you get to know them. I liked the imagery that was presented and it was quite believable in the way that Rebecca was treated once she got back to the island. Very reminiscent of a small town vibe when you did something bad. The way that Lucy Hall writes makes you question all of the information that you are given, it's not so much an unreliable narrator but more a biased narrator. It seemed like there was a general distrust of men that was coming through with Rebecca. I thought that part of the book was done well. I think that the plot was a little predictable at times. There were a few twists towards the end that kept me turning the pages but it seemed like I already knew what was happening because I could guess it early on. The overall book was well written and I liked the resolution at the end.

Rated up for 3.5 stars.

A crime writer returns to her home island upon the death of her mother and gets drawn into the mystery of a missing teen. Becky is convinced that she can investigate this case and uncover clues that were overlooked at the time Violet went missing. She is plagued by hostility from the islanders as she is reminded time and again of the tragic circumstances that triggered her flight from the island. Her untrusting nature has her accusing people at every turn, further alienating her. Regardless, she is persistent as she obtains scraps of information in order to build a picture of what happened to Violet. The path is emotional, her information bouncing you back and forth among different avenues of blame. Compelling read with an explosive ending! I did, however, find some aspects of this book inconsistent and unrealistic - spoilers beyond this point. 1. You can't move to an island where no one locks doors, start locking your doors, and then throw suspicion on anyone else with a locked door. If you are going to lock your doors, you have to accept that others will as well without it meaning a body is on the other side of the door. 2. If someone breaks into your house, and then you get multiple threats in the form of notes and vandalism at your home, you don't stay there as if there is nothing going on. You get security cameras! 3. She goes into a padlocked shed on her property because Evie may be hiding out there? How? It was padlocked - how could she have locked it from the inside? Little items that only detracted from the story a little.

Welcome to Kirton, a secluded island just off the Dorset coast, inhabited by a close-knit community with long-lasting memories. When Rebecca returns after 18 years, she quickly realizes that very little has changed. Sure, there's a new bistro and a state-of-the-art coffee machine at the local gossip hub, the supermarket. But the moment she steps off the ferry, it becomes evident that everyone remembers her and the events of her previous visit.

This gripping thriller revolves around secrets, lies, regret, and the hidden facets of people's lives. It also adds a layer of mystery with the disappearance of an islander from a traveling community based on the island, a disappearance that seems to go unnoticed. Rebecca refuses to be intimidated into returning to London, and in doing so, she uncovers a tale that not only checks all the boxes for a thrilling whodunit but also raises thought-provoking questions about society and the disparities certain individuals face.

I found myself enamored with the well-crafted characters we encounter in this story and appreciated how the writing vividly portrays the island and the unique experience of living in a tightly-knit community. True to the author's style, this book is captivating, excellently written, and kept me engrossed throughout. As for the ending, well, it will send shivers down your spine.
