I absolutely ADORED going back into the world of the Celestial Kingdom for this companion novella. Told through nine short stories, this was the perfect addition to an already fantastic duology. The stories take place in different time periods and through different POVs. Some occur prior to the events of the duology, some throughout, and some after.

This book sucked me right back into this world, told with lyrical prose and once again such stunningly visual descriptions. Tan has a way of writing that is so beautiful and magical. I loved getting to see so many favorite characters again, and get to know more about them.

Starting with Chang’e and Houyi and ending with Xingyin and Wenzhi, we have stories of sacrifice and courage, of love and friendship, and most importantly, a breathtaking epilogue that had me squealing with delight.

If you were a fan of the original series, it is a MUST to read what happened before, during, and after the enchanting tale of the Celestial Kingdom.

Thank you to the publisher, Harper Voyager, and NetGalley for physical and ecopies in exchange for an honest review.

Review will be posted to linked instagram on January 25th.

This was everything, EVERYTHING, I ever imagined or hoped it would be.

It’s no secret that I adore the Celestial Kingdom series. I think it is one of the most beautiful, moving, complex, unexpected and unique stories out there. These tales spanned different times throughout the original duology: part one broken into pieces inspired by the original moon goddess’ tale and how it folds into the rest of the story later, a middle full of growing and changing relationships between characters during the Celestial Kingdoms duology, and a final part that serves as an epilogue.

And good LORD, did this epilogue deliver. But not only that, the stories woven throughout added such depth and complexity to the characters loved before, and helped us get into the heads of people we don’t know as well as Xingyin when they are making the most difficult decisions of their lives, the final part had me in tears of job but also some manner of sadness, just remembering everything our characters have gone through in order to get here.

I will go on recommending this series til the end of time, and this selection of stories serves as an absolutely worthy addition. I am so incredibly grateful to have been able to arc for all three of Sue Lynn Tan’s books so far, and I will forever be watching to see what she does next.

Thank you to Avon & Harper Voyager, Sue Lynn Tan & Netgalley for the opportunity to read an early copy of this gem of a story.

A collection of stories that expands the world of the Celestial Kingdom, delving into the past and present of the characters. Returning to the Immortal realm this book gives you nine stories, two previously published, seven original, and the epilogue to the duology. I had a blast reading this and getting to see more of the characters from the duology. I loved getting to see more of Wenzhi and Xingyin together and what happened to them after the series ended. I thought this collection was a really nice touch to see the stories of Xingyin's parents and what lead to them events that start off Daughter of the Moon Goddess as well as the thoughts of Liwei as he takes the position of Emperor and his emotions as he decides what to do with Wenzhi. I enjoyed reading this and getting to delve back into the world and see the characters again. This is definitely a book that should be read with the duology!

*Thanks Netgalley and Avon and Harper Voyager, Harper Voyager for sending me an arc in exchange for an honest review*

Lovely as always. Beautifully written and it was such a delight to revisit the world of the Celestial Kingdom. Are these stories necessary to the duology? No. But is it worth a read? Absolutely. I can’t wait to see what else this author does. She’s become an auto read for me.

Such a beautiful read!

If you loved the original duopoly, this book is simply indulging. It was so much fun to be able to step back into this lush, beautiful fantasy world again.

Each story was so unique, and they each were wonderfully paced for the length of the book. It was so intriguing to get to learn more about these characters. I rather enjoyed all the little stories about the different characters, and I felt like it helped me connect more to each of them. My personal favorite was the final story. It was so beautifully written, and it was such the perfect ending for this story. I also really enjoyed the gorgeous artwork throughout as well.

I will recommend rereading the duology if you haven't recently read it. It's been almost a year since I read the last book, and I did sometimes find myself struggling to remember each character. But it was still so fun to read, I didn't mind the confusion.

Overall, this was such a unique and beautiful read, and I am so honored to be able to review it.. Thank you NetGalley and Harper Voyager for allowing me an arc.

Thank you NetGalley and Harper Voyager for allowing me an arc copy of this book.

Tales of the Celestial Kingdom is a great edition to the series. It gives insight into many characters by showing us stories not in the duology. Each story has a different character voicing them and takes place before, during and after the events of the Daughter of the Moon Goddess and Heart of the Sun Warrior.

I definitely recommend reading the duology first before reading this book. There are major spoilers contained within. My favorite was the last story with Wenzhi and Xingyin.

The art in the book is gorgeous. The panels are amazing and detailed. It gives me Xianxia C-Drama vibes looking at them. The only thing that would have made them better would be if they were colored. Be prepared for amazing flowing hair and robes.

The only bad thing I have to say is that I wish it had been longer.

Thank you again NetGalley and Harper Voyager for allowing me this e-arc.

Sometimes you just need a little more of a world, so a novella of vignettes was ideal. This is best if you read them right after the duology, as I struggled to remember the characters at first. But heading back to the Celestial Kingdom was magical and makes me want to reread the series.

Note: I received a copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinion. Thank you, NetGalley and publishers.

Sue Lynn Tan returns to the setting of her beloved Celestial Kingdom duology, adding new scenes that add meaning to the stories she told there, yet enjoyable in their own right. Inspired by traditional tales and mythology, this collection is a wonderful introduction to her world, though beware that it does include spoilers for the existing books.

Tales of the Celestial Kingdom is out February 6,2024. Don’t forget to add it to your Goodreads TBR!

This was a great way to complete the Moon Kingdom duology (though...does this technically make the series a trilogy?). It was nice to dig into the voices of other characters, and to get a final smidge of worldbuilding in a world that was so fun to be a part of.

However, I think the epilogue should have been part of Heart of a Sun Warrior instead of added to this release, but I digress - I still won't turn this collection down.

Sue Lynn Tan's duology is a favorite of mine, so I was really excited to return to the world of the Celestial Kingdom! These short tales were a fun addition, especially those that take place after the events of the duology. So glad to get a peek into future for my favorite characters!

I LOVE IT!!!!
The spin off gave us closure of things happening during the duology of Celestial Kingdoms books. Consisting of different POVs, we glimpsed the feelings deeper of each character. It's nice to know the story of Chang'e and Houyi and the decision that led them to the start of this duology. We also got Liwei's, Whenzi's, and Shuxiao's POVs, as well as EPILOGUE!!!!

Please read this after you finish reading the duology, bcs there will be major spoilers if you hadn't.

The writing style is indeed admirable. It's comforting, warms and beautiful!!!

Thank you for the arc in exchange for honest review 🫶🏽

Tales of the Celestial Kingdom immerses us into the worlds of Daughter of the Moon Goddess and Heart of The Sun Warrior once again. Sue Lynn Tan provides beautiful transformative insight to our most beloved characters, and their stories. The writing, cover and artwork were all absolutely divine as always. I had such a difficult time letting go of the characters from the Celestial Kingdom, and i can’t thank Sue Lynn Tan enough for gifting us with a more intimate look at what shapes and moves each narrator.

This novella is broken into three parts:
Dusk | Three Stories {Rise of the Sunbirds, The Ten Suns, Goddess of the Moon} that reimagine the original mythology that inspired the world of the Celestial Kingdom. You can read all the stories in the Dusk section prior to reading the Celestial Kingdom duology, and doing so would give you some insight and empathy for the heart wrenching tale of Chang’e and Houyi.

Dawn | You can read the first two stories {The Snow Ginseng Root, Battle with the Bone Devil} in Dawn once you have completed Daughter of the Moon Goddess. The remaining stories {Return to the Jade Palace, A Rival’s Spirit} should be saved until you have read Heart of the Sun Warrior to avoid spoilers.

Twilight | These stories {Sun Moon Teahouse, Home} should be read once you have finished Heart of the Sun Warrior.

A dreamy and lovely peek back into the world of Chang'e, Xingyin, Liwei, and Wenzhi. I can't get enough of the immortal realm and the magic within! Sue Lynn Tan has a loyal reader in me, I love the way she writes. It was great to catch back up with the cast of characters with stories ranging from before, during, and after the events of Daughter of the Moon Goddess and Heart of the Sun Warrior. My favorite was the last story because I LOVE Wenzhi and Xingyin. This was a fantastic little book to tide me over until the author releases whatever her mind comes up with next!

Tales of the Celestial Kingdom is utterly beautiful, The three chapters are three separate stories and those stories answer several questions I had in the book. From an epilogue for the daughter of the moon goddess duology to a retelling of the moon goddess myth. We also get Xingying's love interest's pov. I loved it. The pace gives it a sort of vibe that you are being told a myth story like it gives a vibe of a lute player telling you mythology. It was a beautiful read. I felt like crying at the stories, Some were bittersweet, some were sad, but it has a feel-good feel

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher,Harper Voyager books, for this book.

The characters Liwei, Xingyin, Wenzhi, captured my heart.

Dusk, Twilight, and Dawn. Each captured my heart. I found this novel to be engaging and the writing to be superb. From the first chapter until the very end I was totally list in the Celestial Kingdom Sue Lynn Tan created.

Don't know where I've been, but I am adding her to my my must read list and have bought another of her books for my Kindle.

Highly recommend.
