The Assassin and Her Knight
Book# 3
by Cara Hogarth
The Assassin and Her Knight is the 3rd book of this series by Cara Hogarth. This is the 1st I've read from this author and absolutely love this book and will go back to read the other, previous 2 books.
The story about Christian middle east people living in France or Spain to escape persecution. It was an interesting twist to add. The characters were wonderful.
I liked that this was fun and a little different from you typical Fabio historical romance novel. The setting was also refreshing since historical romances set in 14th century France a quite hard to come by. The romance itself was enjoyable, not to die for but also not horrible like some others I've read (*ahem* bridgerton *ahem*). 3 stars
Entertaining, Medieval, Romantic Adventure
Garit rescued Zhila, only to have his cousin endanger her life and kidnap her sister. Now, she must do his bidding. Edmund wants his cousin dead, and he wants Zhila to do the deed. He wants her to make him break all his rules, and he wants her to steal from him before she murders him. Otherwise, her sister will meet a fate, much worse than death. What is she to do? Zhila finds herself falling in love with Garit. Will she make him break his rules? Will she steal from him and then kill him? For the answers, you must go on the journey with Garit and Zhila. She convinces him to take her with him to France, and what happens next will keep you turning the pages. This is my favorite book in this series of standalone books. We did get a glimpse of Garit and Zhila's story at the end of the previous book. I am glad to read their tale in its entirety. I enjoyed this book and would recommend it to lovers of Medieval historical romance.
Um yes! Very steamy. Love, loyalty, family, and war. Everything you want in a late night read! Don't plan to stop once you start this one.
The Assassin and Her Knight is a well-written piece of medieval historical romance that takes you to Spain and France during the 14th century. There are scenes of everything, from intense battle scenes and passionate love making that will capture the attention of romance lovers everywhere. Unfortunately, it was not for me. I found the constant sexual accusal of the heroine because of where she came from distasteful in a personal matter; and ultimately this was one that I had to skim through to finish. However, this does not put me off from the author's other work and I actually want to read some of her others to see if it is more to my taste. I definitely recommend if you are looking for a diverse and steamy romance!
Thank you to Dragonblade Publishing and Netgalley for an e-ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This was definitely a unique story. I don't belive I have ever come across a story about Christian middle east people living in France or Spain to escape persecution. It was an interesting twist. However I got to 60% through the book and was bored. Sorry Cara. I skipped to 85% and read the ending. Which seemed to end rather abruptly. Skipping that last part I didn't feel like I missed anything important. Which is why I am giving 3 stars.
I have given my honest review for a complimentary copy.
The Assassin and Her Knight by Cara Hogarth is part of the Minstrel Knights’ series and features Sir Garit of Ruin and a Persian woman named Zhila. Garit discovered them as he and his men entered the town to loot and steal. It was their right as the conquerers. His band had rules, though, and one of them was about women. He could not leave this woman and her sister in the street to be raped or worse. He broke off from his men to deliver her to a church where she and her sister would be safe. His cousin, and second in command, was angry about it and his behavior and words caused a rift between the two men and so Edmund left the contingent. Once he had secured the safety of the two women he left and went back to pillaging. He had a purpose: get to France and marry the widow he had seen who was in possession of a castle. His men needed a home for a while. His secondary purpose was to use his earnings to return to England to rebuild his own castle, which had been destroyed years earlier when marauding French soldiers had killed his family and burned their castle. This was his focus: his future.
Garit was a damaged man but a good one who lived by his principles. He did not even know this woman he intended to marry. He would never love her. He just wanted her castle. That was how marriages were arranged in his life experience. Zhila’s sister had been kidnapped by Edmund, who wanted to have vengeance on Garet, mostly for not loving him. There were steps she needed to take, culminating with killing him and taking his papers, which he carried in a locked box. He would accept nothing less. Watching Zhila agonize over her sister and her task was heart-breaking. She was an excellent character: Persian, but Christian; dark-skinned, but full of love. She was clever and creative. An excellent character. Their journey was excruciating at times, but exhilarating at other times. It was a well-written plot which was exceedingly well thought out. It was really quite a wonderful story.
I was invited to read a free e-ARC of The Assassin and Her Knight by Dragonblade, through Netgalley. All thoughts and opinions are mine. #Netgalley #Dragonblade #CaraHogarth #TheAssassinAndHerKnight
Zhila Kurian and her family are Persian travelling minstrels, unfortunately they are caught in a war zone. In the aftermath Zhila finds herself faced with a choice of who will live and who will die. There is only one possible answer. She will use everything she has ever learnt to complete her task.
Sir Garit of the Ruin leads a group of mercenary soldiers through the battle grounds of Spain and France. He has strict rules he insists all his men stick to. He does have more than winning money on his mind.
This medieval romance is very different to the normal ones. Our heroine is incredibly talented in many ways and gives everyone plenty of surprises. Our hero battles himself as much as his enemies. An action packed adventure with lots of fun along the way.
I loved it.
This is a wonderful blend of hard rocking action and romance. There is an instant connection between our hero and heroine, so we know where that is going, but it doesn't get in the way of the action to follow. The story was very well written and included plenty of twists and turns to keep things interesting. The characters are also well developed and have a sense of realism to them that makes the story easy to read. I found this one to be a page turner and I am hoping to see more from this author in the future.
