This was a relatively good book with lots of twists and surprises and it was hard to put down. I really didn’t like most of the characters though the story kept me reading and wondering if there was actually a murder and who did it. The entire time I was reading the book I felt like I’d read it before, even though this was an arc copy. I received an arc of this book from NetGalley and the publisher. All opinions expressed are my own.
Sienna goes to a remote cabin to spend time with her deceased sister’s friends and coworkers.
I thought nine of the friends were particularly likable and Sienna fleshed out secrets from the group, using Samantha’s diary.
I think Sienna played her full deck way too soon, I understand it accelerated the drama but I thought she was rather foolish and feckless.
I liked Troy the best. He was genuine and concerned and a good man to have around.
The lesson learned here is there’s a lot more than meets the eye.
Thanks to netgalley and bookouturr for access to this Arc in exchange for my honest review.
I loved reading this fast paced thriller. So many secrets revealed, such twists that broke my heart. It's amazing how people she trusted the most could betray her. Never a minute to get bored ! Totally recommend this book.
The Weekend Away is the perfect book to read over the course of a weekend! I loved the setting in this book. There is something about cabins in the woods, the feeling of being trapped alone with others, in a tense setting that gets me every single time! Miranda Smith has crafted another gripping, hard to put down and shocking book that had me on the edge of my seat, trying to get to the bottom of things right along with Sienna! This book (and audiobook) was addictive, atmospheric and full of secrets and lies.
Sienna’s twin sister Samantha sent her a message letting her know that she needed her. The next day Sienna received word that her twin sister was dead. Sienna knew that her sister's death was suspicious and is determined to prove that Samantha's death was no accident. When she finds her sister's hidden journal, she knows that she is on the right path.
A weekend away to discuss the loss of her sister has been planned by her friends. Sienna agrees to go along and is shocked to learn some hard truths about her sister's friends.
This book began strong and never let up. I loved having both the book and audiobook of The Weekend Away. This made for a thoroughly enjoyable reading experience. As I mentioned, this book grabbed my attention from the very beginning, and I had a hard time putting it down. I was drawn into the plot, the mystery of what happened the night Samantha died, and the possibility that one or more of her friends may know more than they are saying.
I enjoyed how quickly things changed when Sienna began questioning those there. I love tension in books, and I loved how the tension mounted in this book over the course of their stay at the cabin. This became a real page turner for me. I did my best to try to get to the bottom of things, but Miranda Smith is very clever and shocked me with the reveal. If you have not read Miranda Smith before, what are you waiting for?
I love her books. Every book I have read by her has been well written, addictive, and shocking. This book was no exception!
Atmospheric, tense, well written, dramatic, and entertaining!
Who doesn't love a cabin in the woods murder reveal book?! This has managed to out an original spin on the premise with the twi angle and the diary entries and I felt it worked really well. There's plenty suspense and suspicion and I was kept guessing g the whole time! It's a slow burn and character based but so well written and brought to life. I was so convinced I knew who was behind it and was completely wrong! Really good read
When someone you love dies, a part of you dies with them. Although twins are two different people they also share something special too and I think it might be even be more devastating for them.
It's no wonder Sienna has loads of questions. A whole bunch of different scenario's flash through her mind and she is convinced she can find answers or even the culprit among her sister's friends.
So she joins them on a weekend away, determined to get to the truth. Easier said than done, because they all seem to lie. Sienna has a secret weapon though and she won't hesitate to use it to unravel the truth.
The deeper she digs, the more she feels threatened. And then the culprit is forced to show their true colors, desperately trying to keep their secrets hidden. Things are really starting to heat up...
This book had me guessing until the end. It was impossible for me to point my finger in any direction. They could all be guilty or none of them. My brain was clearly to mushy to figure this one out.
Least favorite character has to be Colby. I would have loved to give him a piece of my mind.
A very good story. Once again it seems like money rules the world. 5 stars
Thank you
I loved everything about this book! It was very interesting, and I was invested from the very beginning until the fantastic ending. It had great twists, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I will definitely read more from this author!
I love a good psychological thriller and this did not disappoint. It grips you straight away and is fast paced.
Sienna knows in her heart that her sister did not die by falling over the balcony whilst intoxicated by alcohol and that gut instinct never leaves her. Fast forward a year later to the anniversary of her sisters death she is unexpectedly invited to a weekend away by her sisters friends to a cabin and after finding her sisters journal she decides to go seeking answers about her sisters death knowing it has something to do with her sisters friendship group and colleagues.
The main character sienna is feisty and does not give up on finding the truth, even when faced with becoming a target herself to stop the truth coming out.
This book has me swaying towards a few characters that I thought may have done it and I ended up being completely wrong and I live when I can’t predict the ending or I predict wrong!
The accudental dwath of sienna's twin sister has never sat right and now 1 year on the discovery of ger journal confirms there is more too. So when her fsisters friends invite her to celebrate her life she decides to go and findvout the truth.
Slow burner but ttally hooked me in. I loved the usage of the journal in between characters. I do enjoy stories told from pov in this i would have loved a chapter from some of the friends rather than just dalogue. Loved tge plot the characters gropping throughout. The enfing was the icing on the cake as i gueesed wrong . Thank you netgallery and publisher and author for a solid 5 star read.
Read this if you like:
suspicious deaths
secluded cabin getaway
secrets between a close group of friends
twin sisters
double POV
diary entries
don’t know who to trust vibes
Who doesn’t love a story full of secrets and deception? The blurb promised a lot of that so I couldn’t resist putting this one on my tbr.
It did started with an intriguing prologue with the hint at a death and a dangerous situation in which they find themselves in a fire, this ensured that you started the story with excitement and questions but after that it stayed a bit of a slow burn for a while with not that much of information about the characters or their situation.
As the story progresses and you get a glimpse of Sammie her diary entries you get to know the whole crew a bit more and I loved the diversity of them, but their secrets may have been a little more shocking for me because some felt like a bit of a cliche and caused a bit of disappointment for me because I would’ve liked it if everything had been a bit more complicated and not so obvious so that you as a reader could keep guessing and staying on your toes until the end.
The story got a bit more in motion around the middle, with some more suspense and action but towards the end everything suddenly went very fast which makes the ending feel a bit rushed compared to the rest of the story. In my opinion it deserved a little more attention to get a more satisfied feeling with proper closure.
But what I loved the most about this story was especially the setting; a secluded luxury cabin with a beautiful view and a porch completely around the full cabin. Take me there please!
The story also takes place during fall, so this makes it a good read for this time of the year.
A close diverse circle of friends with secrets to hide and a sister desperate for answers and ready to reveal everything. Who will survive?
Curious? Go read The weekend away.

Awesome read.
Twenty-nine-year-old Sienna Roth is not living the life she’d imagined. She’s working six afternoons a week in her family-run business, Roth Family Cleaners, and juggling the heavy emotions of her distraught parents with no support system to help guide her. She’s also grieving the death of her twin sister, Samantha and has yet to gain closure since the accident a year ago. Having ‘escaped’ the Roth home and a ‘twinnie’ life under the shadow of her successful sister, Sienna became a freelance photographer and enjoyed the freedom of facing the future on her own terms. Unfortunately, Samantha’s death brought Sienna back to the same place she’d longed to escape. Her parents need her and she can’t abandon them.
Armed with her sister’s diary and a desperate desire to understand what happened the night her sister Samantha died, Sienna leaves her parents to run the family business and heads off for a weekend away in the Smoky Mountains with her sister’s friends. It’s the anniversary of her sister’s death and Colby, Harper, Nessa, Matilda, and Jackson have planned a trip to honor her memory. Reluctantly Sienna agrees to the weekend away; she’s convinced that there’s more to the story of her sister’s death and hopes that some one of her sister’s friends can help fill in the gaps. Who ripped the pages out of Samantha’s diary? Why is the owner of Sunset Memories so creepy? Which one of these ‘friends’ knows more than they’re letting on?

My sister died. Her friends lied. And now I’m going to learn the truth…
This was really well done. I wasn't sure if I'd enjoy it, but it exceeded my expectations.
OMG I did not see that ending coming at all! When Siena is doing her best to get over the death of her twin sister Sam Jackson invite her to a getaway to commemorate the one-year anniversary of her death. At first sienna wasn’t going to go but after finding her sisters diary and learning the motives her friends could’ve head for killing her she decides to go to the mini vacation to talk about the unfortunate accident. Soon after arriving however it is clear that only Jackson wanted to see Seinna there . She is especially shocked when Sam’s boyfriend Cody shows up with her best friend Matilda but this will not be the only surprise this weekend and right when she starts to believe that Jackson truly is on her side he has an unfortunate accident of the zone. Is the person who killed her sister how to get those who are trying to prove it? I thought this book was going to be the run-of-the-mill isolated location killer in the house is this it is trust me when I say the ending totally makes up for it I really liked the way the story was told in the ending is an OMG I did not see that coming type ending I love this authors books and that definitely includes this one a total thrilling awesome read! I want to thank Bookoucher Andnet Galley for my free arc copy please forgive any mistakes as I am blind and dictate my review.
How far would you go in your search for answers?

The atmosphere was spectacular! The juxtaposition of the twins' personalities and choices they made were well-developed and played off each other nicely. The journey to the motive was palpitating, the twists were surprising, the secrets were shocking, and the inability to trust anyone left me cautious and actively involved in clue-hunting. I loved the secluded setting and the locked room trope as much as I enjoyed yelling at Sienna when she made rash decisions or came across as gullible.
Smith is an auto-read author for me! She always seems to have me eating out of her hands and stumbling at unforeseen twists.
This thriller about the lengths we’ll go to for justice and the driving force of sibling love is one you’ll want on your night table ASAP!
I was gifted this copy by Bookouture and NetGalley and was under no obligation to provide a review.
I’ve enjoyed this authors books in the past but this one wasn’t for me. I found it to be fairly similar to many other reads out there and some I’ve read only recently. I was hoping it would play out differently but unfortunately it didn’t go that way. It’s told from 2 different points of view which I do find interesting. To be honest I was a little bored throughout and didn’t find it really engaged me. I did like Sienna & Troy as characters but found the rest really unlikeable. I liked the diary aspect of the storyline. It was a slow burn but picked up somewhat for the last 1/4 but the outcome was only ok. Unfortunately this one wasn’t for me.

Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for the opportunity to listen and review #TheWeekendAway
I enjoyed this book although it was a bit far fetched. Also, a lot of characters to keep track of which made it a bit confusing, especially with the female friend characters. The writing was really good and I liked the setting.
Looking for information as to her twin sister Samantha's Sienna joins her sisters friends on a trip in her memory to the mountains
Not being part of the group she is not sure why she feels the urge to go but fearing that they know more than they are saying regarding her sisters freak accident from a balcony she knows that without this information she will never fully understand what happened
A thrilling psychological read that keeps you guessing all along
The Weekend Away by Miranda Smith
Slow-burnt and gripping thriller.
Samantha fell off her balcony. Her twin sister Sienna didn’t believe it was an accident, because she knew her twin very well. Sienna found Samantha’s journal in their secret place, which revealed the dark secrets of her best friends.
Sienna was invited to a memorial trip by Samantha’s best friends in a wood-paneled cabin. She went there because she read the journal. The lies, the cheating, the so-called best friends…Sienna was eager to find out who killed her sister…
The story plot was enjoyable and smartly sculptured. The characters were all playing unique role there. The author cleverly used mainly three POVs in telling the story, from Sienna, Samantha’s journal (those secrets) and the cabin owner (to tell what happened in the past in the cabin). These all created a fuller story.
When I was reading the book, the “who to trust” idea kept me hooked!
I have mixed feelings about this book. On one hand I really enjoyed the mystery of Sammie;s death and the development of the back story of her friends or should I say suspects. The setting of a cabin tucked deep in the woods with growing menace and tension was a perfect back drop to the story and mirrored the growing unease of Sienna, the dead girl's twin. My issue comes with Sienna as I felt she came off as too self-righteous with a chip on her shoulder so much so that by the end, I was rooting for the bad friends to win, not Sienna.
