Found it hard to connect with the characters. They were a bit two-dimensional for me.

It's also third person POV which isn't a problem for me but the lack of chapter headers was a bit jarring, plus switching POVs in the middle of a chapter was a bit confusing. There being more than two POVs didn't help the situation.

Ending tied up perfectly but I felt more relief that I finally finished the book.

all I could think of after finishing was "MEH". now, don't get me wrong, i'm not saying this book wasn't good. all i'm saying is it wasn't good enough, at least not for me. like I couldn't buy half the things that happened throughout the story. it does pass for a cliché rom-com but that's it. nothing more, nothing less. the pacing was fast so you can get this over with soon and I do kinda like the "Everything tied-up perfectly" type of ending so it was okayish i guess. rest everything, the plot ,the characters, the writing were pretty so-so, borderline boring tbh.

A very light read with some good parts that I know enough people will enjoy. Unfortunately it wasn't completely my cup of tea.

I hate to write this but I'm sadly not a fan. I tried and retried reading Mr.Right Next Door and it was not pulling my interest.

I stopped at chapter 5.

It was a great light rom-com with a bit of emotional depth. The characters were fun to get to know, MCs were childhood best friends and the story of how they get together is long and promising.

great book and loved the mystery through out the book. I loved the characters and how they grew through all of their adventures. I enjoyed this book and this author and will check them out again add them to my reading pile.

An amazing book . Rory and Sarah have been best friends since they were kids and now she works at his father's club as manager . He likes the fancy Sasha who doesn't remember his name . Sarah tells him that she has to change his style so he buys new clothes , cuts his hair and start wear contacts . While he tries to impress Sasha he realise he doesn't like who he became . Sarah is an amazing mother to Anabell and trying to raise her child alone because Greg the father is a horrible man who only causes problems . At some point both Rory and Sarah feel jealous of the people their best friends date . Is it possible that they are in love ? I also loved Gill and Dinah story .

My first book by this author and I can safely say I’ll be looking out for more. Such an easy read, I didn’t want to put this down. I did want to bang a few head’s together (no spoilers) but the ending was everything I wanted it to be and more.

I enjoyed this book. Was a little slow in the beginning but got better as it went on. I will definitely be recommending to my friends!

A quick read, but one that is difficult to review.

From the surname of the character being introduced, my teeth were a little on edge. And unfortunately, the cliches continued to roll. I think I’m just too cynical!

Characters lacked depth and I struggled to keep focused throughout. Unfortunately, in a genre that is full, there just wasn’t a place in my heart for this book.

Oh boy. This was not good. At all.

Mr. Right Next Door opens on a death bed scene between young Rory and his dying mom. Did not need the death bed scene to start my romcom - and then it got worse. The story features Rory, a nerdy accountant who decides that nice guys finish last and gets a makeover so he can now be hotter and douchier. The love interest (but not) is Sarah, a single mom, who is “woe is me-ing” her way through her life, not looking for handouts but bemoaning nearly every dumb decision she makes.

Just to be confusing, there are two other love stories in this 190 page book. To be more confusing, this is absolutely packed with very specific British slang - and there is a passage where a character complains about modern slang! As if I didn’t have to look up was “div” meant. To somehow make it even more confusing, the POVs randomly switched mid page - and there were so many different POVs. We had 5 different POVs by page 46. And more after that too!

This has sexist bullshit (from good guys and villains), mom guilt about sleeping and self care, culturally insensitive language, telling not showing, insanely cheesy moustache swirling villains, confusing time skips, and two love interests named Sarah and Sasha. Why? Why such similar names?

I’ll leave you with a quote that truly baffled me. In Sasha’s POV, she bemoans the fact that men were interested in her early due to “early onset boobs.” What.

When it comes to love, do nice guys finish last? It certainly seems that way to Rory, who promised his mother on her deathbed that he would be a better man than his father. Rory is the nice guy all women claim to want while they repeatedly end up going for the ‘bad’ boys. And bad boys is something Rory’s best friend Sarah knows all about…case in point is her ex and frequently absent father of her son. I enjoyed Mr Right Next Door quite a bit. The characters all felt quite real, and I couldn’t help but like them. (Or in the case of a few hate them, as you’re meant to.) It’s a classic case of not seeing what is right before your eyes. While this was not my favorite, I know people who might enjoy it. While I was reading this story, I felt like the plot was lost, and I was lost right along with it. From the cover and title, it gives the Rom-Com vibe, but once you read it, that is not the case. The first chapter with the childhood trauma didn't give me the fluffy vibes I sought. The character I didn't feel connected to and afterwhile a while since I couldn't figure out where the story was going, I became apathetic to the story.

I really liked the concept in this book, but it was not well executed. The writing felt stilted, the references out of date, and it really leaned into “no one likes nice guys” which tend to just be not interesting guys. Unfortunately, this was a flop for me.

Mr Right Next Door is a fun quick read romcom. It follows Sarah and Rory who are best friends. Sarah is a single mom and has to deal with the father Greg who is a deadbeat dad. He would rather spend his time out drinking and with other women than to be spending time with their child. Sarah gives him the benefit of the doubt in the beginning of the story to see if he will change. Rory is a "nice guy" and doesn't believe that he's the kind of guy women want. So, he decides to try and change himself to win a girl over that he works with. While Sarah and Rory are both dealing with their situations, they begin to notice how they compare their partners to each other. There is chemistry between them, and Rory is her child's Godfather. I mean he fills the parenting role that Greg can't seem to do. This story provides the typical best friend-to-lovers trope, but I found that it felt very spread out for most of the book and then the ending felt rushed. It took too long for the characters to acknowledge that they were in love with one another. That is the reason I lowered my rating. Overall, it was a fun read!

This was a sweet easy read, a tad predictable and a bit of a slow burner but an nice form of escapism none the less!

Mr Right Next Door is a gem in the rough. Or maybe it’s like golfing in the rough. I’m not quite sure which comparison is more apt, or perhaps both are true at different times.

The beginning is … I hate to say it, but I must… it is ROUGH. I almost DNF’d. I am glad I stuck with it because the story grew on me (go ahead and grown at the pun). But, really, after I crawled through the similar names and the Britishism’s and the far-too-many-points-of-view from characters I didn’t really like, I found myself interested in what was occurring.

The book needs a firm editor to tell the author “NO”. No to all the points of view. No to the all-too-human characteristics. I need to like my book characters and I did not. Not for a long while. Give these characters some redeeming qualities that make me want to root for them. Frankly, I didn’t care if any of them ever had a good date or dated each other because I didn’t like any other them. I didn’t care about Sasha’s surprise news (didn’t like her), didn’t care about Sarah’s crappy taste in guys (don’t much care for her) and Rory is milquetoast. No to similar names.

So- why did I stick with the book long enough to start liking it? Stubbornness, I guess. A little over half way point, I started to find myself more interested in the characters. It shouldn’t take this long, but at least it finally happened.

This sweet and clean romance is perfect for fans of the friends to lovers trope. As someone who adores romcoms, I couldn't help but fall in love with this story. I was lucky enough to receive an advance review copy of the book, and I am more than happy to share my thoughts voluntarily.
