I find this book a great help for people who want to start drawing, but for whom YouTube videos are not enough to build a talent. I have learned from this book.
This book brings manga drawing to the readers. The book begins with comic cells describing how to draw. It provides an introduction to drawing bodies.
My oldest son is obsessed with Manga, and this book would be great for him or any child who loves anime and is interested in the drawing basics! Definitely Recommend
Great book, but wish there were at times just another step to see how you got from one place to another. We did really enjoy the artwork, though and still had a great time learning to draw.
I showed a few pages to my anime club and they loved the designs and were eager to learn to draw from this book! I've put in a request to order it and hope that I can get our old projector up and running so I can use it as a means to teach the kids a little more. It is a great resource and gets kids excited about drawing!
How do you draw a manga? Is it as simple as doing panels? Not really; you need to know your shapes first. But where is the starting point?
A senpai kid helps our narrator draw a manga. She talks about the importance of proportions, paneling, and character designs. It's a love letter to Scott McCloud, and I am here for it.
I love this guide; it is very cute and sweet. Kids and adults can learn alike while drawing from the basics.
Hahahaha, so funny!
A manga story with very helpful tips to draw manga. I’ve got no skills for drawing but I found myself drawing some things after reading this book, yay!
Super cute learn-to-draw book written in a graphic novel style. Way more involved than just a how to. Your child/teen will love this story!
Very good guide for both kids and beginner adults. Easy to understand and follow along. Included story is cute too. Lots of techniques to try that would work for even the most basic beginner. Would make a great gift.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an ARC of "Learn to Draw Manga Basics for Kids." I requested this title with my 9-year-old daughter in mind as she loves to draw and is very into Manga and Japanese animation/figures. She had a wonderful time looking at this book on my iPad and learning the basics of Manga drawing. It was fun to watch her flip through the book and get ideas of things to draw, and we really like how everything was laid out. I plan to purchase a hard copy of the book for her Christmas gift!
My 9 year-old daughter has recently discovered manga and loves trying to draw the manga style by hand. This book has certainly given her ideas to try, especially when it comes to drawing faces, bodies and thinking about facial expressions. It’s laid out in a comic book style with text inside the boxes, along with drawing ideas. I think this is perfect for slightly older children who are already familiar with reading this format. My daughter found it a little tricky to follow but she certainly has been given some great inspiration and ideas to try from this lovely book.
I really liked the book.
I appreciated having a story behind it and being able to receive advice and tips about manga in a manga way.
It covers everything from facial expressions to clothing, body and poses, to art materials to drawing traditionally or digitally.
The characters were super sweet and cute, and explained the foundations and then how they could be leveled up a bit more.
This was very fun and informative. I really enjoyed this and it has helped with my drawing practice. My doodles have gotten much better!
This is a very cute art book.
Easy to understand.
Some kernel of helpful tips!
Great for beginners.
So this drawing tutorial is geared toward youth but as an adult I found it engaging and easy to follow in a way that I could almost perfectly replicate what was being taught.
This is a series of drawing tutorials and this one focuses on the basics of manga drawing. Very useful if you want to learn how to draw!
ARC provided by publisher and NetGalley.
This book was okay, I didn't really like the layout. I can see what the author was trying to do with it, being a storyboard / storytelling layout. But it just took away from what the book's purpose is really. I don't think this is an effective 'how to' book, the steps aren't really detailed or clear. However, I do think this book would be appealing to the target audience - it's colourful & fun, & I can imagine the storyboard layout would be intriguing. But the actual usefulness of the book isn't great.
This was such a fun way to learn how to draw manga, the instructions were really easy to follow, I’m sure the kids are going to love it Thank you netgalley and the publisher for this early copy
I recieved this book from netgalley in exchange for an honest review. This book was fun to read and learn the basics of drawing manga. It's styled just like reading a manga but you get to learn tips at the sane time as reading. It makes me want to get into drawing and practice more.
Thanks to Netgalley and Quarto publishing group for access to this Arc in exchange for my honest review.
This book was so much fun !! It was like reading a Manga but with actual tips to draw. I loved that lemon had questions I actually have when trying to draw. Highly recommend !
Read and reviewed by my 16 year old creative and artistic manga fan!
He LOVED LOVED LOVED this! He rattled off these things as his favourite points:
The opening is engaging - a good wee storyline that sets us up for the book done in the format of a real manga and gives a bit of inspiration from the very beginning
Really great explanations specifically in contrast and balance on each part you’re working on.
Love how detailed it is in showing us how to draw different facial features and aging
Explain hairline well shows the flow of hair and textures
Good explanations of posing encourages you to try out different methods
Explains referencing of loses really well, giving different options for getting the pose
Explanation of clothes wrapping around the body is really good.
Eyes eyebrows and mouth for facial expression,
Body language and showing expression with tears when rotating emotions in
Ultimately, rated 5 stars by a very critical 16 year old!
