More of an academic/theory/thinking book on design than applied/technical/demonstrative, it still has merit as a deep dive overview of design principles from both a universal and upper-level perspective. Super interesting perspectives to elicit deeper conceptual thinking.

A wonderful book. Highly recommended. You will enjoy reading it. Written in a very engaging prose. Nowhere would you feel being stuck or bored. Pick it up if you get a chance. Thanks to the author for a review copy.

Branding is something that is not limited to large businesses and organizations. Even small, local businesses need to be aware of how people see them as a brand. This book breaks down 100 concepts that go into a brand and explains them in a way that is easy to understand. To help readers, there are examples of how businesses have put the concept into use.

Even if your job is not directly related to the brand of the business, this book can help you understand why branding is so important. If you are in charge of branding, the book can help you build and maintain the brand.

I love this series and the presentation format that all the volumes has come in - text on one side and a pictorial on the other with a short caption, usually an example of the concept discussed on the previous page. This volume is my least favourite so far. Maybe just because I am not all that into “branding” and it takes quite a bit to read and understand some of the concepts.

It’d no doubt be useful info for those in business, manufacturing and design.

This book is unique in that it gives concise descriptions of the elements of branding and design. Each page discusses an element of branding such as campaigns, delivery, framing, influencers, etc. and includes a very comprehensive list of elements. The pictures are full color and accompany each entry. It's a great overview of a wide array of branding principles and elements -- but not as in-depth for each one. Great coverage, though, and a good intro to the universal elements of branding.

This book has smart tips and visual examples for branding your business. It boils down the key lessons into 100 principles alphabetically grouped into sections - defining, building, and delivering your brand. (Be sure to note the color codes for each at the beginning of the book. They pop up along the sides of the pages.) If you want to better understand how to connect with customers and build a memorable brand, this book is a useful reference.

There are plenty of textbooks available about branding, but a textbook this is not. Instead, it is a lively, succinct, and focused exploration of 100 branding-related concepts: each discussed in a short, one-page essay, accompanied by a facing photograph that illustrated the concept. Concepts explored include: abstraction, authenticity, observation, politics, valuation, etc. As an educator who teaches a course that partially focuses on “non-literary” texts such as commercials, advertising, and website design, I see this as a helpful resource to introduce students to the concept of branding and a discussion of how choices made in such texts support and develop a company’s brand.

I'm not in business, marketing or branding but this book caught my attention and kept it!
It is what I'd call a much needed reference guide for anyone in the business of marketing, design, public relations, branding and sales- overall, we are all in the business of communication and we can learn a thing or two about authenticity in reading this. And a quote from this that's absolutely true is "products are made in the factory but brands are created in the mind.”

Thanks Netgalley for the eARC, now I know something extra cool and useful on structured communication.

Universal Principles of Branding is a great reference book/resource for designers and covers many aspects including brand architecture, customer journey, frameworks and much more. It was a very informative, well composed, and full of interesting examples.

This book was beautifully mapped out and easy to read. I would highly recommend it to anyone in business. I loved the quote “products are made in the factory but brands are created in the mind.” The visuals that you had to go with the book did a good job highlight the themes and concepts. This book to me seems unique and in a class of its own.
