I’m on a roll this year with Historical Romance, and had such a fun time reading 𝙀𝙫𝙚𝙧𝙮 𝘿𝙪𝙠𝙚 𝙃𝙖𝙨 𝙃𝙞𝙨 𝘿𝙖𝙮 and can’t wait to read more of this genre.
Michael Bromley, Duke of Woriton, and grumpy eccentric scientist meets sunshine, Elizabeth “Bitsy” during a chance meet cute at Hyde Park. When their dogs get tangled up, they accidentally swap pets.
I love an opposites attract love story, and this featured characters that were so well written, it was both charming and heartwarming, bringing all the laughs.
I both read the physical and listened to the audiobook format and enjoyed them both!

This book was just delightful! It was sweet and clean with few swear words and just lots of heart! I loved it! The narrator was awesome! The characters shine through his voice and I would read another by this author!
Thank you to NetGalley for the opportunity to review this audiobook and all opinions are my own!
This was an entirely delightful clean historical romance! A meet cute involving their dogs?! Yes please. The narration was great and kept me engaged from the first minutes. I loved joining along with the two protagonists -- a science loving Duke and the season's diamond lady through all of their adventures. I would recommend this novel for anyone looking for a clean romance that reads quickly and will keep a smile on your face.
3.5 stars rounded up.
I enjoyed this as a listen. I would have liked to see more chemistry between Michael and Elizabeth. I found myself routing for them, yes, but I was more focused on Jimmy and Sally's story by the time the book was near the end. I found their connection and their POV chapters more than the romance brewing between Michael and Elizabeth. I did like the unique plot line of this book and found myself hopeful for Elizabeth's sake that the dogs would be returned. There were a lot of moving parts to this book as a whole that I got lost in the subplots and not the main plot so much. However, I really enjoyed the characters, the Regency vibes, and the dog lover aspects. It is definitely a fluffy, cozy read if you're looking for something light and closed door, I giggled a bunch during this book and it ended very cute! Give it a shot if you're a dog person!
The quality of the audio was great and the narrator was clear and easy to listen to.
I did think his voice sounded a little older than the character in the book but that was my only complaint.
💕Short review: Hilarious historical hijinks
💕Long review: Intelligent and anti social Michael, the Duke of Waritan, is dog sitting his aunt’s beloved poodle. While on a stroll when he’d rather be tinkering in his lab, the dog gets mixed up with another identical poodle belonging to Elizabeth Dockering. Think the opening of 101 Dalmatians and, as a result, Michael and Elizabeth unknowingly go home with the wrong dog.
Elizabeth’s slimy suitor, Peter Cordray, hires a petty thief to dog nap Elizabeth’s dog but, because of the chaos in the park, the wrong dog is stolen. Eventually both dogs go missing so Michael and Elizabeth must team up to find the thief and recover their dogs.
Full of fun and laughs this book was a delight for animal lovers with a cute cover too!
This new historical romcom from Susan Enoch was an absolute delight! Including not one, but two poodle thefts that result in an unexpected match between the introverted, scientifically minded Duke of Loriton and the diamond of the season, Miss Bitsy Dockering.
A classic introvert /extravert opposites attract romance, full of fun, sleuthing, and plenty of forced proximity while this duo attempts to locate they are missing dogs.
I absolutely loved watching the Michael, the reclusive Duke come out of his shell, and find their arm or Sparks in the world, then just in his laboratory! Bitsy, though young is more mature than meets the eye, and when she’s given the chance to prove herself and look beyond what is expected of her, her character really flourishes, and comes to life. This was the type of couple that you can’t help but root for as they solve the their puppy caper.
The audio narration from Mark Meadows added to the enjoyment of this story, through the use of voice variation for the various characters. The villainous Peter Cordray’s nasally narration gave his character, a comical villain air. Other notably voice to characters are that of the Duke himself with his stayed and calm demeanor, and the dog snatcher is the down on his luck thief.
Overall, this was a very fun romance. They kept me hooked from the start! You don’t usually come across a lot of great romcoms in historical romance- this is one, and it needs to be on your TBR!

I tried to get into this one and I just couldn’t fall in love with the story. I love historical fiction romances but this one was not for me
The diamond of the season has a run in with a Duke that turns into a caper, an outing of a no good cad and a romance.
While Every Duke Has His Day contains some of the typical historic romance tropes, it takes on new roles and makes the reader want to no what happens next. I love that there is a sub-romance as well which also made me want to listen to more.
I was able to listen to a preview narration and hanks to NetGalley. The narrator was fantastic. They had the perfect accent for the time period. I appreciate that they did not try to do different voices for the different characters.
Every Duke Has His Day was delightful. The set up - a few dogs, getting mixed up at a park had a nice 101 Dalmations vibe - but then the caper, and continual mix-up had me smiling like I was watching that old 1991 Sylvester Stallone movie "Oscar" about the bags that kept getting swapped with each other. I liked the sense of hijinx, but I also loved the collaboration between Michael Blumley, Duke of Loriton and Elizabeth “Bitsy” Dockering. I find that more often than not there is little adventure in Regency books for the women, and it was great to see Elizabeth get to dig in to this mystery, be truly valued by Micheal, and feel more engaged than all of her Ton gatherings and dances ever made her feel.
The side characters were also delightful - the dog kidnapper with a heart of gold and the performer with so much faith in him. Even the despicable Peter Cordray was a fun read.
The first 1/3 of set up is a bit slow, but by half I was hooked and couldn't wait for the time between my tasks to listen to a bit more. I think Suzanne Enoch did a great job giving us something new from this 'old time' mix-up tale.
Every Duke has His day was a lovely palette cleansing quick read for me after a very heavy book before it. Our plot revolves around a Duke Michael MMC who is dog watching a beloved poodle Lancelot for his Aunt, and our FMC who is a dog obsessed owner Bitzy (much like myself!) colliding amidst a most cruel plot to rid our FMCs beau of her mischievous, but lovable (if not a tad bitey) dog Galahad. It’s easy to root for our Duke in the face of someone so ready to cast a dog into peril being after Bitzys hand! I mean who would so casually hire dognappers! Gasp! Lord Peter’s the self proclaimed “dog lover” is truly a villain to me! This tale is both endearing and enjoyable in its witty banter, believable plot and clever humor amidst an unfolding love story between these two colliding characters. I loved watching their love story unfold whilst hating Lord Peter. The writing is oh so British, prettily poised and perfect for fans of classic writing styles like Bridgerton or Jane Austen (especially the journey from you frustrate me to you sweep me off my feet journey!) It’s got all of the witty dry humor you’d expect and niceties that reside within polite British culture in historical reads. It’s a perfect read for dog lovers, and regency romance lovers alike who are looking for clean romance and a good smattering of light hearted fun. I couldn’t recommend it enough for anyone coming off of a heavy read looking for something to give them a bit of cheery energy to transition to. The cover is also so bookstagram and display-able it would be such a fun gift or insta feature! I can see this being a really popular womens fiction historical read.
Its narration for me was the only part I struggled with as the male narrators voices for certain female characters was at times grading in its high pitched tones. However Bitsy was for the majority just fine though. However this might be a me problem as I really dislike when male narrators over emphasize female voices in this way so I found it particularly difficult to fully enjoy while dreading the voices of fem characters. I know I would have enjoyed this much more with a more realistic portrayal of female voices. I will say I loved the nasaly tones for Peter which felt very true to his character.
Thank you for the chance to read this audiobook ARC NetGalley and Dreamscape Media. My views are my own.
SO CUTE. A seriously adorable regency romance featuring quirky mismatched leads and a fun cast of supporting characters, count me in! If you like your romance spicy, this is not the one for you. If you adore Bridgerton, this is a must read. He’s a stoic and science minded Duke with a distaste for society, she’s the bubbly diamond of the season. When they’re forced to solve a series of dog nappings together, what could possibly go wrong? ;)
Thank you to the publisher, author, and NetGalley for this ALC!
Michael, the eccentric Duke of Woriton, has a passion for the science of chemistry. His aunt asks him to take care of her poodle, Lancelot, he accepts reluctantly. Elizabeth (Bitsy) is a Diamond of the Season. She adores her poodle, Galahad, but everyone else considers him a demon dog. When her beau hires a thief to steal the dog and get rid of him, chaos and an accidental swap has the thief kidnap Lancelot instead. Michael wants to find Lancelot, and Bitsy is determined to help...
This regency era romcom is a retelling of Bringing Up Baby, which I know nothing about, so I can't tell if it's well done or not. The side characters were interesting, but it wouldn't been fun to keep Jim and Sally's story for another book. It was still a cute and fun read, and the narrators did a great job with the audio book.
I received an advance review copy of this book for free and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
What a treasure! I adored this book, an historical rom-com with a doggie meet-cute?! Yes! Enoch never has delivered us a delightfully witty and upbeat romance that has joined the ranks of my favorites.
Usually I would hate a popular 'diamond' type heroine like Bitsy, but she is so charming! Perhaps she just has a good heart and only means well. Michael is great, oblivious to everything that is outside of the sciences he studies. Enoch really knows how to develop chemistry and keep the plot rolling. There is a great b-plot romance with even more humor. The poodles, Galahad and Lancelot, are so cute and funny. A total feel good read.
I cannot wait to purchase a copy for my shelf.
I was skeptical for a male narrator, but he did great!
Thank you to NetGalley for my Advance Review Copy.
A sweet and fun read. When Michael (the Duke of Loriton) and Elizabeth ("Bitsy") accidentally meet in the park one day, it sets the wheel of fate in motion. When their poodles collide and confusion ensues, Gallahad and Lancelot are exchanged accidentally and the complications continue from there. There are several dognappings, numerous balls, misunderstandings, mysteries, jealous suitors, confusing feelings, a scientist who is also a duke that might just be falling for the diamond of the season and a seemingly spoiled diamond who may be falling for a scientific duke. It's a comedy of errors in the best kind of ways.
AUDIOBOOK REVIEW: The audiobook was narrated well. The voices fit the feel of the book and characterization. I was able to become even more fully immersed in the story. 4 stars
Thank you to NetGalley for both early copies of the ebook and audiobook. I voluntarily chose to read/listen and review them both and the opinions contained within are my own.
I was initially drawn to Every Duke Has His Day because of the poodles on the cover and central to its plot. I’ve always wanted a poodle, but until I finally follow through on that dream, books like this help scratch the itch, so to speak.
This is perhaps the most fun and silly historical romance I’ve read. The premise is delightfully ridiculous, and the hijinks just get wilder as things progress. Dognapping not one, but two poodles, dangling ransom notes and threats of death, all to get a girl to accept your marriage proposal? It’s extreme and cruel, to say the least. But what Peter Cordray certainly didn’t see coming is how his evil plans actually would push Bitsy to spend more time with the Duke of Woriton… and that all this time together would allow understanding and affection to bloom between them.
This is a case of opposites attracting and balancing each other out. Michael is anti-social and at times antagonistic with others, but he’s extremely smart and wants to help the world on a greater scale through his scientific research. Bitsy is a social butterfly who charms all around her, though many don’t realize how clever she, too, is. When their poodles, Lancelot and Galahad, respectively, get tangled up at the park, Michael and Bitsy start off their acquaintance on the wrong foot. There isn’t much friendliness between them, but they soon bond over their common goal of rescuing their stolen poodles. Their search proves that two heads are better than one!
I loved watching Michael and Bitsy traverse London, gathering clues and formulating plans to find the two missing dogs. Spending so much time together, their relationship blossoms very naturally. It’s gradual and sweet how the two develop a genuine fondness for each other, even if they still like to poke and tease in their own ways.
In addition to sections following Michael and Bitsy, readers also get to see what’s going on with Peter Cordray and with the dognapper, Jimmy. Although the book’s premise is a bit like a cozy historical mystery, we readers know what’s going on the whole time. We know that Peter will stop at nothing to win Bitsy’s hand, including getting rid of her beloved dog that he hates so much. We also know that his hired thief, Jimmy, isn’t such a bad guy after all. Sally is certainly a good influence on him, too. They get their own side love story, which is cute! Reading their respective parts adds to the fun and charm of this book, and doesn’t detract from Michael and Bitsy’s earnest search at all.

Mark Meadows does a brilliant job of narrating Every Duke Has His Day. He reads with a pleasant voice that is articulate and easy to understand. He also does great work in differentiating between the characters, putting on distinctive voices for Bitsy, Michael, Peter, Jimmy, and Sally. While the former three get a more upper class accent, the latter two are working class and are given voices with the styling to match. It adds to the flavor and individuality wonderfully. This books works perfectly as an audiobook, largely thanks to Mark Meadows’s skillful narration.
Every Duke Has His Day is a sweet and charming novel full of wit, hijinks, and a genuine love for dogs—especially poodles! The characters are likable, even some I didn’t expect to like, and the dogs are a delight. If you’re looking for a light but smart historical romance, this one is a winner.
Every Duke has his day was a cute historical romance that centre's around a dognapping that leads two a winding adventure trying to track down two poodles; Lancelot and Galahad. Michael and Bitsy start with an unfortunate meeting, leading to Michael taking a swim in the pond when their two poodles becomes tangled.
It was fun reading about the different sides of Michael the avid scientist, who reluctantly opened his heart to help others, and Bitsy who helped push Michael out of his shell and rejoin society.
This audiobook was well done, and the narrators were easily to follow and voices added to the story,
Parts Every Duke Has His Day seemed to drag on, especially since nothing substantial happens during the story, During parts of this story the side characters were more interesting and entertaining than Michael and Bitsy. I appreciated the enemies to lovers, and being forced together to find the dog-napper. I wish we could have had more time to enjoy a happy ever after, I felt their was very little time with Michael and Bitsy every truly acting life a couple, it more focused on the dogs, and them slowly falling for each other,
This book was highly predictable, and low stakes but never less an enjoyable read. There are pieces of this story that could have easily been cut to make this book a more reasonable length.
I rated this book 3 stars.
Thank you to NetGalley and Dreamscape media for the opportunity to listen to this audiobook.
Thank you, Dreamscape Media, for an advanced listener copy in exchange for an honest review.
I DNF'd this at about 23%. I took no issue with the narrator, but I found myself completely disinterested in the characters and the writing style. They fell flat for me, and I found the book boring. I do think it has its audience. Its audience is just not me. It did ever so slightly remind me of that hallmark pride and prejudice remake with the dog walker, so if you liked that, maybe give this one a shot.
DNF @ 39% - I am so disinterested in this, I just cannot connect with the characters or the plot :( The romance is taking a while to ramp up and there is an extra POV that keeps confusing me.
I had just started this (after the archived date) when my phone quit working. When I bought a new one and downloaded the Netgalley app, I lost all my audiobooks that were downloaded and already archived. What little I had heard had my attention. I liked the narrator. I also have the Ecopy, so can update this when I finish it.
A science loving Duke falls for a much younger Deb when their beloved poodles get mixed up and then dognapped and they are forced to work together to get them back. Equally laugh out loud funny and full of heart, this is a standout historical Regency romance that is sure to delight Bridgerton fans! Good on audio too narrated by Mark Meadows. Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an early digital and audio copy in exchange for my honest review!!
