A historical romance featuring captured poodles and a scientist?! Yes, please.

The Duke of Worlton has a love of science, especially hydrogen. Society may call that odd but that's what makes him happy. He's got brains, can handle any society dance party dancing with ladies and has poodle watching skills.

Elizabeth "Bitsy" is loving her second turn out in society. Everyone loves her but she loves her dog, Galahad, even more. Loving her dog won't do for a man who adores her fully, so the man plots and succeeds in taking the poodle.

But, he didn't take the right poodle! The Duke and Bitsy must set out to find the dog and work together, even if society doesn't think that's a good match.

I enjoyed listening and reading Every Duke Has His Day. Narrator Mark Meadows brought this story to life and allowed me to envision myself in society chasing after poodles. The pacing felt right and I found myself listening to the latest from Enoch in just a few settings. Historical romance lovers who want to laugh will enjoy Every Duke Has His Day.

I received the audiobook from the publisher in exchange for an honest review. I was very interested in the premise of this book, as it sounded like a different and exciting story. I also read many positive reviews from other readers, so I was looking forward to this book.

However, I was not a fan of the audiobook narration. The male narrator did an okay job with the male characters, but his voice for the female characters was not to my liking. It felt like his voice was cringy and it was a bit distracting and frustrating for me.

I decided to pause the audiobook and request a digital copy of the book from the publisher, because I really wanted to give this book a chance. I think the author has a good writing style and a clever imagination, and I was curious about how the story would progress. I hoped that reading the book would be a better experience than listening to it.

The Duke of Woriton aka Michael is known amongst his peers as an eccentric hermit who lacks social skills. Really he’d rather spend time doing things that matter like figuring out his current chemistry experiment. Unless his Aunt Mary is involved, then he’d do anything for her like watching her black poodle Lancelot while she visits a dear friend on holiday. Elizabeth aka “Bitsy” on the other hand is the talk of the town, currently in her second season with too many suitors to count. But the only man in her life she has eyes for is her precious black poodle Galahad, even if he is very poorly behaved. One mishap in the park involving two tangled poodles and bunch of wet papers the two owners find themselves stumped when they arrive home as they have the wrong dogs!

This book was so fun, and had some pride and prejudice vibes to it. Michael was the grumpy scientist and Bitsy was our social sunshine. Multiple POVS throughout the book surprised me because it was more than just our two MCs. I won’t lie, having a man voice all the characters kind of threw me off in the beginning but I grew accustomed and still enjoyed the book. Definitely a slowburn and friends to lovers vibe, but I really enjoyed that because we got to see both characters personalities shine. Definitely took an unexpected turn when it came to the dogs but I loved seeing that twist in the plot continue to grow as the book went on.

I thought Michael was so cute and witty, really just lacking friends that weren’t beakers to help him blossom back into the charming man he was. I loved that he saw Elizabeth as a woman who didn’t need a man and had more to her than just looks. Elizabeth was so much smarter than others gave her credit for and the only one who seemed to care was Michael. She just needed a little reminder that she was in control of her life and that she could make an honest man of Michael if she wanted.

An unexpected friendship, and a whirlwind adventure between to people set out to find their beloved poodles and perhaps love, based in a historical setting! Set to release on Sept 19th, so mark your calendars☕️

Couldn’t have been any better, 5✨ this book was also an arc, so thank you netgalley!

I adore the historical romance regency era and found this read so refreshing and fun. The MMC is a Duke yet he is obsessed with science/chemistry experiments with little desire to socialize with the ton. The FMC is the season’s diamond who adores balls, social events, and her very unruly poodle. After a wild meet-disaster and dog mix-up, someone kidnaps the FMC’s dog in order to get closer to a potential engagement. New flash to the villain, kidnapping a lady’s dog will not make her fall in love with you! 😂. There was just enough mystery/suspense, humor, witty banter, and genuine opposites attract romance to make this read a fun and enjoyable read from start to finish. It is a clean romance (with a fun secondary romance subplot as well) that regency romance (and dog-lovers) will adore. Thank you to NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for my advanced listener’s copy in exchange for my review! The narrator’s voice characterizations were so fun and made the listen even more entertaining as a tandem read with my digital copy.

Michael Bromley, the Duke of Woriton, is an eccentric scientist who has been asked to take care of his aunt's poodle, Lancelot, while she is on holiday. Elizabeth “Bitsy” Dockering, the third daughter of a viscount, is enjoying her second Season in London and is adored by all, especially by her poodle, Galahad. Not everyone likes her ill-mannered dog, however. One of Bitsy's suitors has had enough of being a victim of Galahad's bad manners and hires a thief to steal her precious pet. But when a chaotic encounter in the park between Michael and Bitsy results in an accidental dog swap, Lancelot ends up being kidnapped instead of Galahad. Determined to find Lancelot, Michael reluctantly teams up with Bitsy to bring his aunt's beloved poodle home.

I love regency-era romances, and this book did not disappoint! This was such a cute and wholesome story with the most lovable characters, a fun setting, and a unique plot.
For the animal lovers, I promise that the poodles have a happy ending! I listened to the audiobook narrated by Mark Meadows, and his narration was one of the best I've ever heard. His use of different accents was very impressive, especially because he narrated both male and female characters. He really made the story come to life, and his storytelling had me laughing out loud. I highly recommend this sweet and charming romantic comedy!

This was the first novel I have read from Suzanne Enoch and I am looking forward to reading some more! When I picked up this book, I was hoping for a fun and cute read, and I am so happy to say that this is so much more. I loved the relationship between Michael and Elizabeth - from their first disastrous encounter to their last lovely and romantic interaction. The writing was fantastic and I loved the banter throughout the book, it was truly hilarious. I also really enjoyed the secondary couple, Jimmy and Sally, especially the epilogue - it was all so cute!

Overall, I just felt so happy reading this novel. It was such a fun read. This novel is an example of why I love to read so much.

I was surprised this book was so fun. I typically don't enjoy reading historical romances because there's so much external pressure, manipulation, and expectations. Luckily this book was mostly free of that. It was especially refreshing to read about a main male character that completely thumbed his nose at societal expectations. It seemed like the author may have been writing him as autistic or auADHD.

The book was surprisingly funny and I actually laughed out loud at the aunt's silliness at the end.

To me, this leans more towards cozy mystery than your typical regency romance. The Duke and Bitsy have both had their poodles dog-napped (well, the Duke's aunt's poodle) and they race around London trying to find them. As the reader, you know the dog-napper the entire time, but they do not. It is a light read, funny at times, and light on romance. The romance that does occur is 'clean'.

Perfect for someone wanting a light read. Opt out if you do not want to read a book that is nearly solely about dogs, lol.

Mark Meadows narrates the audiobook. Some of the voices used in dialogue are obnoxious, but I believe it was deliberate due to the character.

*I received a copy of this book on NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for this opportunity.*

What an unexpectedly fun and whimsical Regency Romance!! When I picked up this book, reviews mentioned it was unorthodox-- and while it was definitely a modern book, Enoch was able to maintain that quintessential Regency charm in a believable manner. Narrator Mark Meadows did a wonderful job of capturing each character's unique voice, and really breathed a lot of life into an already lively book. EVERY DUKE HAS HIS DAY is the perfect playful book for fans of (non-steamy) romance and dog lovers!

I read Something in the Heir a while back and when I saw this latest title I knew I had to read it.

Our narrator was perfect by the way, every character stood out.

This story was a lot of wit (but much less so than the previous book I had read by the author) which was wonderfully matched by the story unfolding. I can’t say which couple I was more interested in knowing more about and I’d say whichever one you enjoy most you’ll be pleased.

A wonderful dog napping romance

This was such an unexpected and sweet surprise. The perfect grumpy sunshine/opposites attract historical romance with a wild, sometimes wacky plot and an adorable secondary romance that was just as satisfying. I found myself rooting for Sally and Jimmy just as much as Michael and Bitsy. Such a fun ride!

This was such a light, fun and enjoyable listen!

Bitsy is a very popular, outgoing, Diamond of the Season, with multiple suitors, who loves and adores her poodle.

Michael is a Duke, who’s aunt loves and adores her poodle, and has left said poodle under Michael’s care while she is away.

There’s a poodle mix-up, some poodle-nappings and some fun detective work bringing these two (and a cute secondary couple) together for a fun little romp around Regency London.

First off, I was surprised when I found out that there would be a sole MALE narrator; I can’t remember that ever happening with a historical romance audiobook before, but I thought Mark Meadows was fantastic.

The plot was fun, and I loved having a secondary couple to root for, as well as our primary couple.

There was absolutely no spice, but I didn’t find I missed it with all the other fun stuff going on.

An overall really enjoyable listen!

Genre: historical romance
London, Regency era

Michael Bromley, Duke of Woriton, prefers his pursuit of stabilizing chlorine for medical purposes rather than socializing with the ton, not minding the eccentric label he’s been given. When his aunt goes out of town, she leaves her black poodle Lancelot in his care. But on their first walk together, Michael and Lancelot have a run-in with Elizabeth “Bitsy” Dockering and her black poodle Galahad. Galahad and Lancelot look so similar they end up being switched, and while it should be an easy swap back, Lancelot-assumed-to-be-Galahad is stolen from Bitsy’s room. It’s all a plot by Bitsy’s suitor, Lord Peter, to get Bitsy to pay more attention to him rather than her pet, but instead, it drives Bitsy towards Michael as they develop a friendship and attraction while searching for their matching poodles.

Every Duke Has His Day is screwball funny and bonkers fun to read.. The book delivers such lines as “Hmm. At least he’d remembered his pants.” Because Michael is as absent-minded a genius as any; except when he’s with Elizabeth! With her, he’s suddenly sharp and attentive to something other than science. And our diamond Bitsy finds that in Michael’s presence she enjoys being seen as witty instead of frivolous, and that she longs to be Elizabeth with him rather than Bitsy. There’s sentimental symmetry beneath the screwball humor of swapping dogs and interviewing strangers for information on the poodles’ whereabouts.

Our villain, Lord Peter Cordray, brother of a marquis, is the perfect villain of this story. He’s entitled, as most aristos are, so he’s not evil, just stubbornly insistent that he should have Bitsy for his wife without giving her actual personality much care. As the daughter of a viscount, she’s got a large dowry, and she’s beautiful so she’ll be the perfect accoutrement for his household. He doggedly (pun intended) courts and pursues her, but when he thinks she’s out of reach, he puts this hairbrained scheme into motion to steal her dog. The whole time you’re reading, you’re thinking “how on earth does he think this will work?!” and cheering for every one of his missteps.

Every Duke is closed door, and yet it loses absolutely none of its charm, because at no point would it have made sense to insert a steamy scene. The book stays firmly in delightful and whimsical territory, and never once did I regret that.

The audiobook, narrated by Mark Meadows, is as wry and amusing as the version in print. I always enjoy when an audiobook can bring out the best of writing, and he’s captured the screwball nature so well. His Michael is the right balance of aloofness and logic and his Elizabeth is just a little frivolous but also witty and kind. I highly recommend either format for this book.

This was utterly adorable. I really liked the way the POV switched between our upper-class main couple and the lower-class secondary couple. I haven't run across that in a romance novel and it was a lot of fun. I love that it's a lighthearted romp that doesn't take itself too seriously, too. And all of the characters were really wonderful and fun to get to know.

I'm not usually a dog person, but the dogs in this book were super cute and really added to the story. I also really liked how much the characters cared for the dogs. It was a good way to show who was a kind person and who was not.

I also liked getting to see all sides of the dognapping. We have Michael's side of the story, and Elizabeth's, and most authors would stop there, but Suzanne Enoch gives us both the villain's side and the unwilling henchman Jimmy's side, and his sweetheart's side as well. It gave a much broader and more complete picture of the world the characters are inhabiting.

The investigations Michael and Elizabeth undertook were great fun, especially when it gave them an excuse to banter. I love a competent hero and heroine, and we definitely get that here. I love how each is competent in their own way and both are useful to investigation - and both of them appreciate the other's competence. Michael is a brilliant scientist and great with details, and Elizabeth is clever and outgoing and great with people. They make a wonderful team.

I did find the ending to be a bit saccharine for my taste, and the declarations of love did drag on rather too long, but that's a minor quibble and I think I'm in the minority in liking books to end with only a suggestion of a happy-ever after. Restrained. Think Mr. Darcy. Not effusive drawn-out declarations like this. They're not *bad* exactly, they just aren't my preference. But the rest of the book more than made up for it.

The audiobook was performed beautifully and I really enjoyed listening to it. The character voices were excellent and the narrator really brought all of the characters to life.

*Thanks to NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for providing an early audio copy for review.

Aristocrat Michael prefers his laboratory to a ballroom. An unfortunate encounter between his aunt's poodle Lancelot and an unmannered beast in Hyde Park leads to an accidental dog swap. Society darling Bitsy, owner of misbehaving poodle Galahad, is distraught when a dog-napper targeting her beloved pet inadvertently takes the wrong animal. Michael must find Lancelot before his aunt finds out, and Bitsy insists on helping. The unlikely allies discover an undeniable chemistry in this hilarious romantic romp.

This book is so much fun, and the audio narration adds to it. I love scientist heroes and society belles with more to them than meets the eye. That's the case here, and Michael is happily surprised to find that Bitsy isn't some bland, spoiled girl. The dognapping scenario is clever, funny, and ultimately endearing in its conclusion. If you like Regency rom com, you won't want to miss this.

Thanks, NetGalley, for the ARC I received. This is my honest and voluntary review.

Quick Summary: A scholarly aristocrat meets his match in a most unusual way

My Review: Every Duke Has His Day by Suzanne Enoch is a darling historical fiction romance. It features a duke with a heart and head for science and a single young woman who is on her second season in society.

About the Book: Having an army of suitors is a blessing and a curse for Elizabeth Dockering. When one rather bothersome suitor attempts to take a liberty that he should not, Bitsy's beloved Galahad saves the day. In doing so, he inadvertently trips up a stranger who just so happens to be Michael Bromley, Duke of Woriton.

In the scuffle to right a wrong, Galahad and Lancelot are mistakenly switched. Before they can be returned to their guardians, a dognapping ruins everything. Can the duke and the diamond of the season work together to solve their unusual dilemma? Will they find the solution to their very own love experiment?

About the Characters: This sweet story was filled with fantastic characters, from the leads to the precious pets. They were extremely colorful and highly amusing . They added a humor and charm to the story. Each person was crafted so well that it was easy to either love them or dislike them.

My Final Say: I adored this audiobook experience. The story was delightful, and the narration was quite entertaining. Readers will enjoy the playfulness of this novel. I think they will likely be intrigued by the light mystery, as well as captivated by the slow burn romance.

This was a light and fun historical romance story about two members of the upper crust who happen to be walking their dogs around the same time and end up getting into a tangle that results in taking home the wrong dog. When they go to switch back they discover there’s been a dog kidnapped in the night. This begins the investigation of this unlikely pair, she a diamond of the season and be a reclusive Duke who prefers to spend time conducting scientific experiments at his home over spending time in a ballroom. This unlikely pair will have to circumvent society’s preconceived notions about them in order to discover what happened to their beloved animals and how to restore things to their rightful place.

I appreciated that this story was a creative and entertaining historical romance with an investigative theme to make this story extra unique. The story is told from multiple points of view, including the villain of the story which surprised me. The culprit of this “who dunnit” is revealed from early on, so the mystery component is more about how and when the two main characters can discover what the reader already knows and how they’re going to find their own happily ever after. I would’ve appreciated the suspense and mystery of not knowing what happened to the disappearing canines but still found the story to be enjoyable and entertaining as is. There is a secondary romance subplot in here that was so unexpected and sweet to read, I really enjoyed seeing that relationship progress throughout the book.

Overall a fun and light read for any historical romance aficionado and/or dog lover! The single, male audiobook narrator did a great job distinguishing all of the character voices throughout the story. Many thanks to St Martin’s Giffin and NetGalley for an advanced audiobook copy of the book, all thoughts are my own.
