This is entirely my fault- but I entirely missed that this was a sequel. I still enjoyed the book, the writing was beautiful & the twists were solid! I would recommend it for scifi fans- but definitely read book 1 first.
I didn't see a single twist coming in this book and they all git me with a force of a laser blast. I loved them, hated them, loved them again because it all made the story so much more scary, a true alien horror.
I always avoid spoiling anything in my reviews, so you'll just be getting my overly excited babbling.
We get to know more about the alien invasion, the reasons, the secrets and lies revealed, relationships and humanity tested in every corner. It's not just one genre, it's a delicious mix of sci-fi and horror, and again just a sprinkle of romance and spice added.
"It was the ache to belong. To breathe. To be loved. It was constant and it had, over the years, nestled in Calay's soul."
I really really wanted to be on alien side, but it wasn't easy, and rooting for Calay was easier at times, so I stuck with her until that ending! That ending! I also didn't see it ending there.
"We're not so different, you and me. You sucked your planet dry, raped the natural world. And now we're going to use the only resources left. The only ones ripe with fuel."
Okay I'm all for saving our planet and this quote was terrifying, I need next book! I need to know more!
