Heather Graham is a new author for me. I like thrillers, so I thought I would give this one a try and see if I like her writing style and plot craft.
Description:
Deep in the Florida Everglades, the body of a woman is discovered in pieces, presumably ravaged by an alligator. Upon closer inspection, it’s determined no animal could make such perfectly precise cuts. Only a blade could do that. Wielded by a human. Soon, dozens of oil drums emerge amid the river of grass. Each one packed to the brim with body parts.
FDLE special agent Amy Larson and her partner, FBI special agent Hunter Forrest, share a bad feeling that extends beyond the horrifying nature of the grim discovery. They’ve seen this kind of sadistic killing before, and when a small beige horse is discovered at the bottom of one of the barrels, they know exactly what it means. The fourth horseman of the apocalypse rides a pale horse—and his name is Death.
With so many bodies to identify, connecting one victim to the next is easier said than done. But finding a pattern in the chaos might be the only way Amy and Hunter can zero in on the killer, testing their skills as agents—and their relationship—like never before. And when the disturbing trail of clues signals these slayings are just the beginning, the agents will have to return to where it all started before it’s too late. The apocalypse is coming, and Hunter and Amy have only one chance to stop it, even if it means sacrificing each other.
My Thoughts:
This was a good story, but I found it kind of slow at times. The plot with the four horsemen and the apocolypse was made for an interesting read. I liked the romance between Larson and Hunt and the way they played to each other's strengths. I would have probably liked this more if I had read the first three books - but that's on me. Like I said a good story that I would recommend to thriller readers.
Thanks to Harlequin Trade Publishing - MIRA through Netgalley for an advance copy.
When bodies begin turning up in the Florida wetlands, the team suspects that a serial killer is at play. When a small pale horse is found with the bodies, the team knows that one of them is being targeted. As the hunt for the killer continues, more bodies begin turning up, and some are in other states. However, with the kidnapping of a young boy, and too many suspects to think about, the team has to figure out how to unmask the killer once and for all - before he kills one of them.
This was a good read. I enjoyed the story. Now, I am going to have to go back and read the first four!
This was the 4th book in the series by Heather Graham and it was a solid read. I would definitely recommend reading this series in order - if you don't, you will be missing out on the backstory as the mystery unfolds through each additional book. I've always enjoyed books by this author and recommend you check it out.
Thank you #netgalley and #htp #mirabooks for the eARC.
This book….this book is amazing! I could not put it down. I was pulled into the story from the very beginning. I wanted to know who the Archangel is, will Amy and Hunter along with their team figure it out before more people are killed.
The Reaper Follows tells the story of a serial killer who brainwashes “followers” and then murders them when they are of no use to him. I love the setting of the everglades in Florida, I love the characters and how they all worked together to solve this case. I became very invested in the case, the characters, and the who-dun-it.
If you are a suspense reader, I highly recommend this book. It is a must-read!
I wish I had started this series from the beginning instead of jumping in here; I felt I was missing a lot of context both in the storyline, and with characters and their development. The story is gruesome, but interesting. I would not describe this as fast paced, it was definitely more of a meandering, stroll of a timeline. It was enjoyable and I would grab something written by the author in the future. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to provide my honest review.
I received an ARC of this book. I always enjoy Heather Graham's novels. This one did not disappoint me. Good story, interesting characters and plenty of suspense kept me reading to the end.
The Reaper Follows is the fourth novel in the romantic suspense series, Amy Larson & Hunter Forrest FBI by Heather Graham, and the story of the final horsemen. With a cultlike following, the danger increases for Amy and Hunter as they close in on the mastermind.
We are drawing closer to the mastermind, as bodies are discovered in the Everglades and the detectives narrow in on groups & churches. This has been a fun case which began in the Everglades of Florida and took us cross country. Larson, a Florida State Detective, has been on the case with FBI Agent Forrest since the beginning and the villain seems to have moved his focus to her.
Because of the overall series arc, I recommend reading them in the order of their release. The romance has been solid and spread through the books. I like both Amy and Hunter. Amy has instinct as a detective and we’ve gotten to them both well.
I struggled a little with this one and skimmed areas to pick up the pace. The mystery pulled in several suspects, and getting to the leader was easy with twists and reveals. Overall, it was a solid read. I loved the concept of the four horsemen and the ultimate goal of the villain. It was easy to see how some were persuaded to follow them, and how others backed out before crossing the line. Cult tactics were used on these people and some felt more like victims.
Fans of romantic suspense and FBI thrillers will enjoy the Amy Larson & Hunter Forrest FBI series.
Readers who have read this series will find answers in this fourth book, the conclusion. Amy and Hunter plus many others work together to find the person behind the 4 horseman's craziness. It's hard to imagine the soul of a person so evil to do the things in this series. The Everglades setting was perfect for this frightening tale. This story was too farfetched for me.
The Reaper Follows by Heather Graham is the fourth book in her Amy Larson and Hunter Forrest FBI Series. I did not do my homework with this one, I did not realize it was series…….that is why I only gave it a 3 star review. I did read it and found it quite interesting but would have benefitted reading the other ones. There is a lot of history mixed in this one along with suspense, danger and romance. It has a very intricate plot and it has a very haunting feel. I must go back and read the rest of the series to get the full effect of the book!
Thank you NetGalley, Harlequin Trade Publishing, Mira and. heather Graham for this very interesting book to read and review. The opinions expressed are strictly my own.

I would like to express my gratitude to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to review this gripping novel.
Heather Graham’s “The Reaper Follows” is a riveting tale that plunges readers into the depths of the Florida Everglades, where a series of chilling murders unfolds. Graham’s mastery of suspense is on full display as FDLE special agent Amy Larson and FBI special agent Hunter Forrest grapple with a case that tests their skills and their relationship. The novel’s intricate plot, marked by a haunting sense of urgency, keeps the pages turning as the agents race against time to stop an apocalyptic threat.
This was a really good book. It had a lot of suspense to it. This is the second book I've read by Heather Graham, I didn't know it was part of a series. All in all it was not bad. I'm grateful that netgalley and the publishers let me read this in exchange for an honest revupa
I wish I knew it was part of a series but I guess this can be read as a standalone as there is enough backstory to catch you up. It was a good plot and I liked the characters but at times I felt the pacing was sluggish
I am not sure what it was about the writing in this book, but I just could not get interested in the characters, or the plot. It seemed to pique my interest in the beginning with the the murders and murder scenes/investigations, but as the plot went on, I just seemed to lose interest, and not want to finish the book. I initially was very interested in the history and back story of the American Indian tribes and geographical information, but I felt like it was a bit overkill to go so in depth with that in the book. A little history is great, but I felt like I could write a book just about the tribe and/or land area after finishing this book. This is the first book I have read from Heather Graham, and perhaps it would have been more beneficial to go back and read the other books in the series first, but I really wanted to give a truthful and timely review of this book, since it was graciously given to me for free to read and review. Thanks to Harlequin Trade Publishing | MIRA & Netgalley for giving me this opportunity!
“The Reaper Follows” has FBI agent Hunter & Florida special police agent Amy on the hunt for a vicious killer/s. Set in the Florida Everglades, bodies are popping up everywhere. Crazy people are on the scene at each of the body dump sites. They have been instructed to be there by a killer promoting the apocalypse.
This book had tons of dead bodies, rape, victims, and even a kidnapping. Did I mention all of the people being drugged? it was pretty crazy. There was also a ton of history about the Florida Everglades and the Native American tribes that live there. What I didn’t realize was this was part of a series. So that was pretty confusing and I didn’t know any of the backstory.
Thanks to NetGalley and Harlequin Trade Publishing for the opportunity to read this ARC
The Reaper Follows was a hard story for me to finish reading. I wanted to like it as Heather Graham is a favorite author and I love her writing. But, sorry to say, this was just a ok read. I found myself skipping pages and losing interest.
I have read the previous books in the series so that is not a problem with reading this 4th one in the series.
To sum it up…..I became bored while reading The Reaper Follows.
Maybe it’s me and I am sure others may love this book.
Thank you NetGalley, the publisher and author for the opportunity to read this book for my honest review. All opinions expressed are my own.
The Reaper Follows by Heather Graham is the recommended fourth novel in the investigative series featuring Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) agent Amy Larson and FBI Special agent Hunter Forrest as they continue their investigation into a series of crimes linked to the four horsemen in the Book of Revelations.
The discovery of a woman's hand and arm along with other body parts lead Larson and Forrest to the fourth Horseman. They discover an oil drum that tipped over and spilled out the body parts. It is quickly determined that there are dozens of oil drums, all filled with body parts that could only have been cut up by human hands. Larson and Forrest along with other investigators must find out who these people were and any connection between them. When they find a small pale horse they know: The fourth horseman of the apocalypse rides a pale horse—and his name is Death.
After a very strong start the plot slowed down to a crawl which tamped down my interest in following the investigation. It was not completely to my benefit that I only read the first book in the series and missed the second and third. There is a lot of information about the Florida Everglades and the Miccosukee tribe which was interesting, but interfered with the action and pacing of the plot. Admittedly, the identity of the antagonist was also easy to determine. For those who enjoy it, expect some romance along with the investigation. If you've been following the whole series, The Reaper Follows will likely appeal more to you and give you closure. Thanks to MIRA for providing me with an advance reader's copy via NetGalley. My review is voluntary and expresses my honest opinion.
The review will be published on Edelweiss, X, Barnes & Noble and Amazon.
The next Amy Larson and Hunter Forrest book finds them investigating a body found in the Everglades.
Id recommend reading the other in this series first otherwise you might be not as familiar with the writing style.
Copaganda Mars Exciting Series Finale. If you read my review of Danger In Numbers (Book 1 of this series), you'll see that I read this series *completely* out of order... and yet it still somehow makes sense, even the way I read it. So take that comment however you will.
That noted, this was absolutely one of those tales where it seems like prior key characters are coming out of the woodwork to all join in the chase to the finale and the ultimate showdown of Good vs Evil in the Florida Everglades... but *who is it*? ;)
The pacing was solid, the murders gruesome, the mystery good enough, but ultimately what mars this tale is what another reviewer called the "love fest" between all the police agencies involved. Local, State, and Feds all get along perfectly (which goes against what virtually *every other source*, fictional and non, tends to say), and worse for this former anti-police brutality activist is just how often some cop shoots someone "but was forced into it" and "didn't want to". Bullshit. Police brutality is an all too real thing in this nation, and Graham exposes herself as just another Copaganda bullshit spewer that thinks that all cops are always saints and everyone in their crosshairs somehow "deserves it", no matter what. This leaves a very sour aftertaste to an otherwise thrilling conclusion to the series.
This series had great promise, and *is* a legitimately solid enough story, particularly for those who agree with Graham's position on policing in America, but it could have been *so much more*. Still, even with all of the Copaganda, this really was a fun read and is very much recommended.
I did not realize this was book four in a series when I signed up for it on NetGalley. The author does a great job of recapping what happens in the previous books and I was pulled into the plot immediately with the discovery of body parts in barrels in the Everglades. Unfortunately, it went downhill from there and did not hold my attention enough to keep reading. I could not connect to the characters at all. It was a DNF for me at 20%.
Deep in the Florida Everglades, the body of a woman is discovered in pieces, presumably ravaged by an alligator. Upon closer inspection, it's determined no animal could make such perfectly precise cuts. Only a blade could do that. Wielded by a human. Soon, dozens of oil drums emerge amid the river of grass. Each one packed to the brim with body parts.
This was a 3 star for me. It was slow and I struggle with slower books. But still a good storyline.
