I was attracted to this book because I have been thinking of tutoring refugees (adults and children) in my neighborhood when I retire. I have been looking into EFL courses to learn how to best teach others English but was questioning how effective this approach would work with beginners who need to be able to converse in practical ways to live their lives. There is always the question of where to start and I think back to my years of learning French and how I learned grammar rules from studying French (not from my English studies). Most of all, this book emphasizes the need to engage the learners in ways that motivated and are interesting and relevant to them. Don't follow rote structured lesson plans -- follow the learner. I look forward to applying what I learned from this book.
