Can something be a locked room mystery when the room is the outdoors?
Jo and Martin are on a guided hiking trip to help their relationship. Jo hates camping and is only going along because of the promise of a luxury spa afterwards. While on the trail, Jo is nearly pushed over the edge of a high point, when another hiker stumbled. While Jo doesn't fall, she's sure that something is suspicious about the stumble.
There are arguments around the nighttime campfire, and even worse, when they all wake up, one of the other campers is dead.
Who is to blame? Who can Jo trust?
This is an excellent thriller that keeps the tension high throughout the entire book.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for the opportunity to read and review this book.
This book came out a few days ago on the 4th of September. I received a copy from the Book Folks via Netgalley.
Jo and Martin want to rekindle their love after a few months of being in a slump. Especially after their daughter left for college their lives needed to be rekindled. So they decide to go on a hike first and end in a very luxurious spa. But they never manage to get to this spa. During their hike with a few other people they don't know something awful happens. The first part is of course survival and getting wounded into a safe environment. But the big question remains, is there a killer amongst their group? Will they be safe?
The book started out alright but I soon found myself questioning the dialogue between the characters. It sounded all a bit uncomfortable and unreal to me. Also the descriptions of the characters were a bit over the top, like in-your-face over the top, to be honest. The story itself was decent, it was a good one but the execution of it lacked a bit. Over it was a really quick read I would not necessarily recommend it.
2/5⭐
I absolutely loved this book! The characters were so engaging and well-developed. This book had it all - suspense, action, intrigue, mystery, revenge, murder, gambling, and a fantastic "who done it" element. The plot twists were outstanding, and the story had me on the edge of my seat with its unexpected turns.
The storyline was incredibly captivating, and I found myself glued to my Kindle, unable to put it down. I wholeheartedly recommend reading this book; it was an absolute gem and well worth the read!

A KILLER AMONGST US by Mark West.
Jo doesn’t like camping but her trepidation about a guided hiking trip with her husband is offset by the promise of a rewarding pampering afterwards at a luxury spa. The walk starts well. The moorland scenery is stunning. But on reaching higher ground, another hiker stumbles on some scree and careers into Jo, almost sending her over a steep edge. She can’t help but feel he did it deliberately. And to add insult to injury, her husband seems to take the man’s side. During the evening an argument brews around the campfire. To Jo’s horror, the next morning a member of the group is found dead. What was meant to be a relaxing time in nature is now a fight for survival, and Jo must make a critical choice about whom to trust.
Really good read. I liked Jo. Martin I didn't trust. Great start but got slow. But I read as I wanted to find out what happened. 3*.
