Hannah was 14-years-old when she was kidnapped and then became the only survivor of serial killer Pete Harris. Ten years later she is engaged, househunting, has a job she loves, and attends weekly group therapy sessions. When a body is found with similar injuries to Pete’s victims, Hannah worries that there is a copycat killer and that she might be next.
I love books about serial killers. This moved quickly and I really liked Hannah’s character. I absolutely loved the group sessions - the friendships, the women-empowering-women, and the messages about how victims are often treated by the media and people online. I’m glad the ending wrapped up nicely but it felt a little rushed.
There were some tough parts to read so definitely check the trigger warnings.
Thank you to NetGalley and Xpresso Book Tours for the advanced copy in exchange for my honest review.
A survivor of a horrendous crime ten years ago is ready to finally move on with her life, ready to be more than just "lucky number 11". Just when she attempts to take that first step, the detective who worked her case from that time arrives with the news that there is a copycat. Not only is the copycat starting where the original murderer known as "the ghost" left off, they seem to be leaving hints that she may be next.
This was a good one, with many likeable characters and a great plot. It was intense and sometimes sad, but with a little bit of empowerment and overcoming the worst thing that may have happened to you. However, I believe this would have been a bit more solid with more backstory from the protagonist as well as some of the supporting characters. It may have shown the fear and elicited more emotion for the reader. There was also an instance or two in here where her boyfriend suggests her taking a walk by herself potentially putting her in danger which was a little contradictory to the situation. While the conclusion was done well, the reasoning was also a bit odd to me. Overall I did enjoy this and recommend it to my fellow readers. Three and a half stars.
Thank you to Netgalley and Kingsley Publishers for this copy of Lucky Number 11.
This is my first read by Jess Kitching and I think I'd read more books by her at some point.
Hannah was abducted by a serial killer at 14 and survived. 10 years on she is happy, engaged and enjoying her job. She is contacted by the Detective from the original investigation and told more victims are being found with her photo by them. Is this a copycat killer?
I found this to be a good, well written book and I was drawn into the story quickly and it held my attention and interest all the way through. I really liked Hannah, Joel and Conrad, I did feel some of Hannah's actions and behaviour was a little unrealistic in certain parts. I enjoyed reading about the support group meetings and the friendships made through it. I loved how the suspense and tension crept up slowly and surely as the book progressed, to a point where I could feel Hannah's fear and paranoia. I kept changing my mind as to who the killer was, although I wasn't really surprised when I found out. I loved the ending, it was very fitting and gave the best closure to this book.
Overall a good read that didn't quite wow me or become the page turner I hoped for.

I have mixed feelings about this book. While I enjoyed the story and the fast-paced prose, I felt like there were missing elements that could have made it a 5-star read for me. Let's start with Hannah, the FMC. She was abducted by a serial killer ten years ago and survived. Now, she is the main focus of another killer that wants her dead. So why does she continue going out for walks and riding the bus alone? Why does her boyfriend and others suggest her to do this as well? This made no sense to me whatsoever. I understand that she is trying to live a normal life, but why take that risk? It contradicts the level of fear and tension that I should have experienced while reading. She didn't quite act like someone was after her.
Next, the short narratives by the killer's POV seemed redundant and did nothing for me. With the exception of the last narrative, I think that the story would have been more thrilling without them.
Lastly, I would have liked to have more background and development of some of the other characters. Why did Joel get so angry? What happened to Tanya and the other women at the support group? And what ever happened to Paula?
Overall, it was a good read despite my nitpicks. I just wanted to point out what was lacking and would have made this a 5-star banger!
Thank you to the author, Kingsley Publishers and NetGalley for granting me digital access in exchange for my honest review!
This was my first book by this author. I was blown away by the story and the writing! It’s definitely a darker thriller with one heck of a twist! I read this in two sittings, only broken up because I had to sleep.
We follow Hannah who is the only survivor of a serial killer. She has spent years living with her trauma as a survivor and goes to an all-women support group for survivors of violent crimes. The detective who worked her case in the past shows up to deliver the news of a copycat killer that seems to have her in their sights.
I honestly loved this and did not see the ending coming AT ALL. It was shocking and brilliant and I will definitely be checking out this author’s other books. 5 stars from me! Thank you to Netgalley and Kingsley Publishers for the eARC!!
This latest book Lucky Number 11 was actually published 2 weeks ago and I just now got approved from NetGalley and the publisher to read it. Wow! What a rollercoaster of emotions. Hannah was only 14 years old when she was attacked and the man is in jail for life. She’s trying to move on with her life now but now more girls are being murdered or disappearing by a copy cat killer. I really enjoyed this and I loved the group setting where the victims met once a month to discuss their issues.
Great book! A very touching one too! This book had a bit of everything! It had suspense, Action, intrigue, mystery, revenge, murder, serial killer, great who done it, great plot twist, and some crazy twists and turns! The storyline was very interesting and kept me glued to my Kindle! I definitely recommend reading this book as it was well worth reading! Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for sharing this book with me
Thank you, NetGalley and Kingsley Publishers for the copy of Lucky Number qq by Jess Kitching. The writing in this book was really good at slowly dialing up the tension and suddenly it was so frightening I had to take a break. I was so scared I didn't want to go for my morning walk! I really liked the characters, and I had a lot of suspects, even though I hoped I was wrong because I liked them so much. The group sessions were really well-written and I was glad we didn't delve into what happened to each member but could still tell they were carrying heavy burdens. The reveal was a surprise, but I’m not sure we had enough clues to make it feel plausible. In the acknowledgements she says she was trying to make a point about a major issue. I applaud this, I’m just not sure it totally worked. The book certainly kept me reading, and I’ll be looking for other books by this author! 3.5 stars rounded up to 4.
I have mixed feelings about this book. I liked a lot of it and it felt like a compelling story and liked the overall resolution, growth of the main character. But the villain and the motivation didn't feel believable and took me away from what was good about the book. The issues it talked about, the aftermath of trauma and how to build a new life 3.5 rounded up
a fast paced, sometimes chilling description of a survivor of a serial killer and the copycat who might be after her. Lots to talk about with students, the hatred of women and the violence and threat of violence that is part of all women's lives. Told with empathy. It is both an easy read and a hard read
I read Lucky Number 11 the moment it dropped. As I fan already of Jess Kitching I couldn’t wait to get my hands on LN11 and it was my favorite to date. It touches on some tough subject matter and was really hard to read at times. But I applaud why and especially how she went about it. Kudos to Jess Kitching for becoming a one click author!!!
This is the first book I have read from this author and I can honestly say it won't be my last, and I will be looking out for any previous books as well as any future releases.
Very fast paced, which gripped me very early on and refused to let go.
Quite sad at times, learning about all the survivors or violence, and how they have come to terms with what they have been through, but there was a powerful message that you CAN overcome it.
Lots of twists and turns, and red herrings - left me guessing right to the end.
Great read - would highly recommend.
