If I see any book by this author, I know I will want to read it! Grace and Frederick are a beloved couple from the first book in this series, but this book can be read first and be appreciated. They are taking their delayed honeymoon in Venice when they encounter their friend, who is a detective. Grace is especially eager to accept the invitation to join the case of finding missing Juliet paintings. Frederick is learning that his new wife is thrilled when he speaks to her in "sleuth'! The couple's witty interactions and honest faith observations help make this book special, in addition to untangling all the mysteries!

A fun adventure takes commences from the first page. This is a great book if you enjoy adventure that is a bit more lighthearted and at a leisurely pace. It is the third book in a series and you may wish to first consider reading the first two books before joining in the search for the Juliet Code.

I love Pepper Basham but I did not love The Juliet Code.
Too much fluff, not enough substance.

I loved getting pulled into the pages of this cozy mystery novel. The characters were all fun to chase as they tried to piece together all the clues and solve the mystery. The setting was so great and made me want to visit Italy even more. It was filled with mystery, danger, and twists and turns.
I read The Juliet Code really quickly. It’s the perfect read if you’re looking for a light, cozy mystery to keep you entertained for a few hours.
I also really liked the writing style. It was immersive and descriptive and brought this story to life.

In The Juliet Code we find Freddie and Grace arriving in Italy for their delayed honeymoon only to find themselves once again in the middle of a mystery. This time, it's an art heist, and their friend Detective Jack Miracle is only too glad for their help. When they all find themselves at a dinner party on a private island and people and paintings begin to disappear, it's a scene worthy of Poirot.

Fans of Freddie and Grace will enjoy seeing how the character’s love and working relationship continues to mature, making them as admirable as they are adorable.

Freddie and Grace are just so much fun, and traveling to Venice with them was delightful! This was a good mystery as well. I had a hard time figuring out who was real and who to trust! And I love how they pick up new friends and family members everywhere they go! Very much looking forward to their next adventure!

This is book 3, The Juliet Code, of the Freddie and Grace mystery series by Pepper Basham. I’ve read the other two (and see my earlier post why I don’t recommend The Mistletoe Countess). I was really torn on the review because there are some things I liked and some things that just went backwards.

I think it would get a moderate+ rating from the Book Cave Rating system because there’s a lot of talk about what the couple are going to do later when they’re alone. The story itself is interesting with mystery about who is stealing The Juliets for their own. I couldn’t follow the clues but it was a nice twist! Fred and Grace continue to grow and trust God, which is nice to see as well. I do think it’s funny how it’s the second book where the male side character falls in love with one of the women who was suspect.

Worldview is 3/5 because I felt that the faith themes were shoehorned in at the end. I know the characters talk about God throughout, but they aren’t challenged until we’re almost finished with the novel.

Overall, 3.5. I don’t think I’ll pick up another one in this series. It’s a shame because I 💕loved💕Hope Between the Pages.

I enjoyed this one. I did somehow miss book two, so that made for some confusing bits. Definitely pay attention to that when you pick up books. But it was great. I really enjoyed this read. Worth your time for sure.

I have recently found this author and love her writing. I can’t wait to begin this story she has written. As soon as I finish this book I will be back to update my review. I know I am going to love this story.

The Juliet Code is the third in the fantastic series with Freddie and Grace. The story stands alone, but really, why wouldn’t you read the first two to see where this highly endearing, crime solving duo came from?

Fresh from a near death experience in Cairo (but no spoilers, you’re safe), Freddie, Lord Astley, is finally on honeymoon with his wife Grace. The pair are enjoying their time in Venice, until a random encounter and the appearance of an old friend set events in a different direction. Detective Jack Miracle recruits the pair to assist him in tracking down a set of missing paintings called The Juliets. Before you can say ‘cane fighting’, the trio head to an island off the coast of Italy, with a killer on the loose.

The characters make this story completely engaging. Grace is all wide eyed but well educated enthusiasm for the adventure of crime solving. The more reserved Freddie providing a safety net and some rather dashing skills as the plot thickens. And while mentioning plot, I should say this one is highly compelling and very clever. Once again, Basham has produced a gripping story that is sure to delight readers who enjoy a strong mystery with characters they care about.

Let’s be honest – Freddie and Grace are complete winners and I highly recommend this whole series. Along with whatever else of Pepper Basham’s you can get your hands on. I received a copy from the publisher via NetGalley. The opinions are my own.

This is such a fun series. I love Grace. She is such an interesting character and always keeps things lively. Frederick is coming out of his shell and is really getting into the sleuthing. This story has so many possible suspects and I felt like my list was changing all the time. It was an intriguing mystery that kept you on your toes.

I kind of hope there's a spin off series or at least these two keep working with their detective friend.

Pepper Basham has become one of my favorite authors and The Juliet Code was not disappointing. She kept my attention throughout even though I had not read the previous books in this series. Frederick and Grace are charming and delightful characters. In Venice on their honeymoon they run into a friend and detective, Jack Miracle, who asks them to help him on a case which turns out to be much more involved and dangerous than first mentioned. The case involves the set of Juliet paintings based on Romeo and Juliet, the artist being from that area. Previous owners of the paintings have died tragically. Suspense, romance and lots of twists and turns hold ones attention throughout the book.

It is sweet to see how the characters are becoming more in tune with one another as husband and wife. Detective Jack Miracle calls on the duo to help him with an investigation that he has been hired to undertake. Things are soon to be proven to be very different than they seem.

This is a good story with intense moments as the trio try to solve the mystery. I noticed that Frederick has picked up on seeing clues or questionable characteristics in people involved in the situation. There are also subtle tidbits which hint at more stories for this magnetic couple ahead. The humor is laugh out loud at times and the drama keeps the reader turning the page.

Another fabulous read! How does Grace dig right into your heart! I want her as my best friend! How does she keep her hubby so endearing and swoony? She does with another awesome landscape for them to maneuver! I love it! Give us another!

Fredrick and Grace are such a fun newlywed couple. She loosens him up and he keeps her grounded. As they finally reach their honeymoon destination in Italy, another mystery crops up and it was so entertaining to watch it all unfold in an adventurous historical mystery.

I felt like I was in the middle of a live-action murder mystery game, you know–the ones where each person gets a character to act out and as the game progresses, clues appear and everyone tries to solve it. There were a plethora of characters and they all seemed to be playing a part as the mystery surrounding this art collection was being solved.

There were so many twists and turns and turns and twists and just when I thought I had it, another twisty turn popped up.

I love characters I can get behind. I love the humor, friendships and relationships. And I love the writing style of this beloved Pepper Basham series.

Will they solve the mystery or die in the trying?

Well, I must admit that even though The Juliet Code had a bit of a slow start for me, boy, did it take off lickety-split when Grace and Frederick arrive at the house. The location of past murder, hidden identities, betrayal, and a possible lost treasure with its clues hidden in a series of paintings.

Once again author Pepper Basham blends humor with suspense, romance with danger, and historical fiction with mystery. She has done it with the previous Freddie & Grace Mysteries and she has proved her continued success with this 3rd book in the series.

I found the mystery to be quite interesting as I have long been a fan of the mystery from the past trope. It was fun trying to figure out who was really whom and exactly what they were up to. Some of my guesses were spot-on, some not so much.

The Juliet Code was an enjoyable read and a good addition to the Freddie & Grace Mystery series from Pepper Basham. After reading this 3rd book as well as book 2 I will be quite interested to see if the series is continued another book...

Why I chose this book: I honestly love Pepper Basham. I have loved watching her develop as an author over the years. When I had the opportunity to read a book set in one of my favorite places...well, I was all in.

Type of Book: Christian romance/suspense

Overall: I enjoyed this one. I was not a huge fan of the book in the series before this one--too many characters. I got so lost in who was who that I couldn't enjoy the story. However, The Juliet Code has just the right mix of adventure, setting, and plot that I thoroughly enjoyed my time spent with this mystery-solving duo. Pepper's characters have a knack for sharing great wisdom and insights and I love how the author weaves these into the story without sounding preachy. These characters are just living life and speaking--just how Christians should be living and sharing their faith. Our faith should be so woven into our lives that it just "shows up" and other people see it and want to know more. I have yet to meet her, but I have a strong feeling Pepper is this type of lovely woman; so full of faith and love and kindness that it just pours out of her everyday living.

Favorite Quotes/Characters:

"They must be very bored, indeed, to engage in such dangerous activities. Perhaps they weren't readers."

"Very good strategy, my lord. Who's to say reading fiction doesn't help in very real-life situations."

As a mom, I loved this quote: "He's written your days and mine, darling Grace. And even if He must pull my worry about you from my fisted hands, I must trust you to His story for your life."

Bookshelf worthy? This one is a 50/50 for me. It's a cute read. And I did like it. I think you should read it and let me know if it should be added to my shelf or not.

Teenability: I think this would be a fine read for a teen. This is a married couple on their honeymoon so there is talk of wanting to be alone and how Grace's husband makes her feel. But there are no sex scenes or extravagant kissing scenes.

While on their honeymoon, Grace and Frederick are invited into a mystery by Detective Jack Miracle. Several thefts of expensive paintings have occurred along with murders of anyone that dares to get in the way. There’s also a code hidden in the paintings that supposedly lead to a hidden treasure on an island owned by Daniel Laraby. Laraby wants the thieves caught but also instigates some games of his own that irritate the detectives. Several characters were also involved in the “game” and kept this reader guessing about what would happen next and who would be in danger. Mysteries, surprises, murders, who dunnits, plus some humor and sweet moments were “peppered” among the pages. (Pun intended) I haven’t met a book yet by Pepper Basham that I haven’t enjoyed. She covers several genres in her writings, and also includes some swoon worthy romance. I need to go back and read the first two books in this series but it didn’t keep me from being entertained by The Juliet Code.

When Freddie and Grace travel to Venice for their belated honeymoon, they find their detective friend Jack Miracle there investigating some stolen artwork. They can’t turn him down when he asks for their help, so they’re off on another adventure. Reading all those mysteries she loves comes in handy when Grace starts looking for clues. I enjoyed seeing Grace’s enthusiasm for sleuthing and Freddie’s realization that life with Grace would never be boring.

With plenty of action, suspense, humor, and intrigue, this tale has something for everyone. Basham’s signature wit and humor shine once again and make for some laughable moments. The main characters are fun and interesting, and the mystery kept me guessing. I did feel that the romantic innuendos between Grace and Freddie were a little excessive. Although I realized they are newlyweds, I felt a little uncomfortable since this is Christian fiction. It felt a bit inappropriate to me.

The Juliet Code is the third book in Pepper Basham’s Freddie & Grace Mystery series. While it could possibly be read as a stand alone book, some of the references might be a little confusing if you haven’t read the first two stories in the series.
