Thomas Perry is the master. Simple as that.

HERO reminds me of one of those two-character dramas that playwrights love so much. They're seemingly simple to construct, but what really makes them work (or not work) are all things going on beneath the surface. And that's where the mastery of Thomas Perry shines. You're sucked in from the first chapter by the intertwining narratives of these two characters. You know the way the book will end, of course -- the hero has got to prevail over the anti-hero -- but you have no idea how that is going to happen.

HERO is a small masterpiece. It's as close to the perfect crime fiction narrative as you will ever read.

Thomas Perry writes exciting fast paced fun thrillers . This is a fast paced read that needs to be read cover to cover in one sitting. This is a new protagnist and a stand alone that has potential for further books.

Justine is a highly trained celebrity bodyguard and expert shot. She has worked for the same company since college that protects the rich and celebrity clientile of Los Angeles. She has training in protection of clients. Her skills are in demand with her security company. She likes her boss who is her mentor and good friend.

When she stops a robbery of two clients by shooting and killing two of the robbers in her clients driveway she is targeted by the hit man hired by the gang that runs the robbery ring. Soon her boss is murdered trying to protect her , she is fired and the hit man is one step behind her to take her out. She is smart, savvy and able to outsmart the hit man at every turn. A exciting thriller I enjoyed reading. Well done to Thomas Perry. This would make a excellent TV movie. A 5 star read.

Hero (which, as stated in the book, should actually be heroine but too easy to confuse with heroin the drug) is an extremely interesting, well written novel. The heroine is a likable character and the reader quickly becomes engaged in her resourcefulness and is constantly rooting for her to succeed. In an attempt to stay alive and a step ahead of the protagonist who is attempting to kill her, she manages to escape in ingenious and intriguing manners.

I wholeheartedly recommend this book to all readers who enjoy this genre and thank NetGalley and Mysterious Press for the opportunity to read and review this novel prior to publication and look forward to Mr. Perry’s next novel.

Even a second tier Thomas Perry cat-and-mouse thriller is going to be one of the best books in the mystery and thriller aisle. And that's what this is: machine gun pacing, clean prose, and a slew of clever ideas and enthralling set pieces. The hero and villain don't sparkle as much as they do in his classics (The Old Man, Pursuit, Fidelity, almost every Jane Whitfield), but they keep the story moving with precision and only the occasional implausibility. This book might not get Perry many new readers, but it will satisfy those of us who know that every title is a small event.

The author has once again created an excellent character to lead us through an exceptional tale. Justine Poole is a security specialist who early on does what she’s paid to do. When two would-be robbers are killed, their boss wants revenge, and Justine becomes the target. An entertaining tales ensues as she must avoid the assassin sent to eliminate her.

A job gone wrong puts Justine on the wrong side and now she has a hired killer who is seeking justice for a mob boss who wants her dead. Justine must run for her life and she’s running out of options.
Wow. I luved it. 5 stars. Now I gotta wait another year for Mr Perry to write another book.

Great book! Definitely action packed! I thoroughly enjoyed reading this one! This book had it all! It had high suspense, action packed, murder, hired hit man, bodyguards, mystery, a great cat and mouse chase and one bad az female character! The storyline was very interesting and had me glued to my Kindle! I highly recommend reading this book as it was well worth reading! Definitely don't miss out on this one! A new stand alone novel from Thomas Perry. A professional body guard kills two robbers in her line of duty. The robbers' employer wants her killed to buff his reputation.

As usual with Mr. Perry's works a lot of the fun is in how the body guard evades the assassin hired to kill her while not making the assassin incompetent. There are some really nice scenes of the assassin figuring out how to get near her and her getting away with neither of them showing stupid.

I am usually quite content at the end of a Thomas Perry thriller. If there is a "sequel" that is fine, if there is not that is also fine. I know whatever he writes next will be great and it does not much matter to me what the next novel is. Hero is unusual for me in that I am very curious what the main character does next with her life. I rather hope she shows up again in another novel.
