A lovely children's book that shares the story of Autumn Peltier and her Great-Aunt Josephine, who are both water warriors.
Peltier is a young water advocate and Indigenous Rights Activist of the Anishinaabe from the Wiikwemkoong First Nation.
It's a great introduction to water activism for children, especially since it shows that people of all ages can make a huge impact. I appreciate the fact that the audiobook also includes additional information at the end to help expand the learning and give more context and knowledge.
***Thank you to Macmillan Audio for providing me with the Audiobook for free via NetGalley in exchange for an unbiased review.
The audio to this book is beautiful with lots of different sounds to bring it to life. The story is told from the point of view of water and how it used to be worshiped and valued for its power by the Indigenous people. This story is important and brings awareness to the danger imposed by dirty, unsafe water and how it affects different cultures, specifically the wellbeing of Indigenous People.
This is a beautiful picture book that's filled with history and culture. Autumn Peltier and her grandmother Josephine are indigenous water rights activists and this book tells of their battles, their courage and their hard work and dedication.
The audiobook is beautifully narrated and the music/water sounds in the background add so much to the stories being told.
Highly recommend this for any biography units or a quick overview of indigenous water rights activism.
A beautiful and important story. Fans and followers of Autumn Peltier will want and need this book in their collection. An important addition to classroom collections.
I read this one on audio narrated by the author an it is a beautiful book and I look forward to buying the picture book to see the illustrations.
Such a beautiful description of water and how important it is.
I found it interesting that Peltier is pronounced different in Canada than it is here in North Dakota.
The water walk sounds so fascinating and everyone should know about it, I had never heard of it before.

I received this book from the publisher Macmillan Audio, Macmillan Young Listeners and NetGalley for a fair and honest review.
Octavia and I listened to this audiobook while doing puzzles. I thought it was really interesting but probably too old for my two year old. I am definitely planning to get the picture book for her. The cover looks stunning and the pictures would capture her attention better than the words.
the words in this story were beautiful. I enjoyed it, but boy the sound effects and overly produced music on this audio book really ruined it for me. I would have loved just the narrator.

This was a great children’s story about an important Indigenous activist. I wanted to review it to see if it was something I would like to gift to friends’ kids, and I would; at the same time, I realized this was the audiobook version, and I would’ve loved to see the illustrations that go along with the writing. Either way, it seems like a solid book.
I requested this book because the description was interesting. The main theme of this book is water conversation and a responsibility to future generations we have to leave the earth and water clean for them.
Indigenous Rights Activists, Josephine Mandarin, and her great niece lead the way this is their story. It is also the story of the Water Walkers. Their work to create change.
I think children will like this educational book. Of course with audio books for children, it is always nice to have a copy of the book in hand to return the pages and see the photos, if that is a possibility for the children.
THANK YOU, NetGalley, MacMillan audio, and MacMillan books for allowing me to preview this title.
DESCRIPTION:
From New York Times bestselling author Carole Lindstrom comes Autumn Peltier, Water Warrior, an inspiring biography about two Indigenous Rights Activists, Josephine Mandamin and Autumn Peltier.
The seventh generation is creating
A sea of change.
It was a soft voice, at first.
Like a ripple.
But with practice it grew louder.
Indigenous women have always worked tirelessly to protect our water—keeping it pure and clean for the generations to come. Yet there was a time when their voices and teachings were nearly drowned out, leaving entire communities and environments in danger and without clean water.
But then came Grandma Josephine and her great-niece, Autumn Peltier.
Featuring a foreword from water advocate and Indigenous rights activist Autumn Peltier herself, this stunning audiobook from New York Times-bestselling author Carole Lindstrom gives voice to the water and asks young listeners to join the tidal wave of change.
Carole Lindstrom once again conveys with warmth and beauty the importance of young peoples’ voices at the helm of climate activism and indigenous cultures. I listened to the audiobook and enjoyed the water sounds and music accompanying the narration, although at times perhaps due to the sound engineering/balance the background was a bit too loud. I definitely plan to re-read when I have access to the visual book so that I can appreciate the illustrations. Lindstrom's books are continuously proving to be important contributions to children’s literature!
Disclaimer: I received an audiobook ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
This audiobook is fantastic for a couple of reasons.
First, the subject matter is incredibly important and getting this info to people while they are still young will hopefully instill in them the importance of water both physically and spiritually.
Second, "Autumn Peltier, Water Warrior" is narrated by the author. Because Carole Lindstrom both wrote and narrated this book, she was aware of exactly what she she wanted to emphasize and what she thought was important.
This is a children’s book and although I enjoyed this audiobook, I think it should be used only in conjunction with the physical book. I think it is necessary to have the pictures to keep children engaged with the story.
I am having a difficult time choosing a Rating for this audiobook. Without the physical book I would rate the audiobook as only 3 out of 5 stars, but if it is used with the actual book I would rate it as 5 out of 5 Stars ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️
So I am choosing a rating between the two. It is 4 out of 5 stars ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️
