Let’s start this off by saying I really liked this book, it kept me engaged and interested, and I HAD to know how it ended. I also liked the narrator, and I can be a bit picky with narrators.

Read this if you like political/lawyer/criminal books, mentor/mentee relationships, and mob plot.

I will say, some parts were a tad unbelievable (like the end), and sometimes Madison did annoy me. But as I mentioned, I was totally engaged throughout, and there were definitely some twists. I appreciated how she laid out the conspiracy, included the law elements, and highlighted the force of the mob. I also loved the growth and flip of one key player.

🎧 4.5⭐️

I had the audiobook read by Sarah Mollo- Christensen who does a good job with the narration.

A legal thriller which doesn’t use the Courtroom with this character driven mystery.

A young intern Madison lands the job of a lifetime working for Judge Kathryn Conroy.

Madison has a huge secret her brother Danny has been arrested, his case is under Judge Conroy. Danny has gone missing after accusing the Judge of corruption.
Madison finds herself drawn into the life Judge Conroy in an attempt to save her brother.

It’s told by 2 POV, Madison and Kathryn. Madison is the main narrator.

It grabbed my interest quickly, it’s fast paced with lots going on throughout with the revelations that felt believable. There’s a good plot complexity for interest.

Madison definitely has rose tinted glasses in her adoration for the Judge, she’s somewhat naive and is easily manipulated by both her mother and the Judge. It doesn’t make her the strongest of main characters, she’s likeable enough though.

It’s very entertaining. It’s one I’d recommend. Especially the audiobook format.

What a crazy ride!!!!

The Intern is a thriller where a very driven Harvard Law School student vies for an intern position with one of the most sought after judges in Boston. Maddie has a secret in her family that she desperately wants to keep hidden to get the internship.

I’m going to be honest that some of the dialogue and back and forth that Maddie goes through is a bit over the top. But this story took so many different twists and turns that I have to look beyond the sometimes overdone dialogue. This book was so much better than I expected. I thought I was going to read some run of the mill thrillers. Not this book!!

Thank you so so much to St Martins Press and NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.

The Intern is the story of a young Harvard law student falls under the spell of a charismatic judge in this timely and thrilling novel about class, ambition, family and murder.

I’m not usually a fan of legal thrillers but this was a fun one. Multiple POV’s and dual timelines are keys to keep me turning pages fast. So many juicy secrets and crooked cops/lawyers made this bingeable. Be sure to check this one out if you’re looking for a story full of backstabbery and lies!

The biggest take away from this one is don’t meet your heroes!

This was a good thriller from Campbell it moved a long at a good clip and kept you on the edge of your seat just wondering when all the lies and stories were going to catch up to these two ladies. This story is told by 2 different ladies one is the intern Madison and the other is the judge Kathryn but the secrets between them will change everything.

This is one I don’t want to give anything away I liked this one!

Narrator Sarah Mollo-Christensen did an excellent job and made the 2 women’s voices different enough that you always knew who was talking.

Another good thriller from Campbell!

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC opportunity!

This story is told from two point of views, Judge Conroy, and Madison, her new intern who won the coveted internship spot. Both women have secrets, with a pretty big issue being that Madison doesn’t disclose that her brother, who’s been arrested, is on Judge Conroy’s docket. The judge herself also has secrets that are influencing this story and coming back to haunt her.

I didn’t find anything too surprising here, but it was an easy read, especially if you like a legal element added to your mystery’s. Though this wasn’t highly rated for me, I’m sure others would enjoy it.

Such an engaging listen.

Narrator was fantastic, the plot and storyline were well done with no plot holes, and it was so engaging I didn’t find myself nodding off once during my overnight shift.

This was my first Michele Campbell book and it will not be my last! The last part of the year is when I devour thrillers and mysteries the most to balance out my holiday music & movies obsession—I see a whole lot of Michele Campbell I’m these next couple months!

Next stop on the Booksparks fall book tour is with this twisty, legal thriller, The Intern. I am a fan of Michele Campbell, so was very excited to get a chance to read this before its pub date of October 3rd. Thank you BookSparks for the gifted copy! I wasn’t sure exactly what to expect going in, but this book definitely surprised me! It went places I didn’t see it going and although some things were a little predictable, it kept me on my toes and was an entertaining read!

Everything is going so well for Madison Rivera, she is in Harvard Law school and just landed an internship with her idol and teacher, judge Kathryn Conroy. Although her brother has had problems in the past, he swears that his lawyer is dirty and he was setup and judge Kathryn Conroy is involved in his case. Madison doesn’t believe him, but promises her mom she will do whatever she can to get to the bottom of it. When the judge asks her to housesit for a weekend, she agrees and is determined to find any connections to her brother. Madison and Kathryn have so much in common and soon find themselves in a strange game of cat and mouse. Just when you think you know exactly how it will all pan out, Campbell throws another curveball and keeps you guessing!

This is my first time reading a Michele Campbell, it was my Sept BOTM pick and I was lucky enough to get the advanced audio for review. Bonus for me that I could do a hybrid read.

Madison has always wanted to be a lawyer and idolizes one of her profs who, also happens to be a judge. When the opportunity to intern in her office arises, well Madison can hardly refuse that offer. Enter her family problems which takes her down a path least expected. Everything isn't as it seems. Soon she is caught up in a cat and mouse game of survival.

The Intern is a twisted story that weaves through time to give the reader a clear picture of what has happened and the whys of what's going on now. I'm glad for the audio, the reader, Sarah Mollo-Christensen did a great job telling the story and differentiating between the different points of view. There is a lot to take in and keep straight along with some suspending of belief (especially in the legal department). The ending was fitting and didn't really exceed my expectations. An intriguing read with some suspense and heartache.

My thanks to Macmillan Audio for an advance copy of the audio (in exchange for a honest review) while my print copy was through my BOTM subscription.

Madison Rivera was attending law school at Harvard, when an internship with her favorite judge, Kathryn Conroy literally fell in her lap. Problem is, both the internship and the judge are worlds away from what she expected. Madison knows she’s in over her head!

With dual timelines, we journey deep into the judge’s past. In particular her upbringing, and what she had to endure to hold the position she has today.

Though this is titled The Intern, and she did play a role, I think a better title would have been The Judge because she was the true focus of this story.

While this wasn’t my favorite from this author, there was enough intrigue to keep me wanting to see how it all played out.

I started this read in digital, and switching to the audio about a third of the way. Both formats work well. The narration provided by Sarah Mollo-Christensen fit the characters and was pleasant to listen to. Though I do think there was an opportunity to have an additional narrator.

Thank you to NetGalley, St Martin’s Press and Macmillan Audio.

A law student is put in a compromising position where she has to choose between her future and her family. Does she choose the right path? I would consider this book a "law thriller", similar to work by John Grisham and others. The author does a good job developing the characters and have you rooting for the good guys, if you can tell who they are. This book was just the right length, enough time to develop the plot, but not drawn out. I listened to the audiobook and like the narrator.

This was such a fun, twisted, legal thriller to read. The story is based in the Boston area and told in a dual POV. I loved the MC, Madison and learning about her struggles and family. I enjoyed listening to the backstory about the Judge and seeing how the relationship with the Judge and Madison grew. This book has secrets, lies, and workplace drama. I was invested from the very beginning and I absolutely loved the ending!

Really enjoyed this read! Excellent audio narration too. The story line read like a movie. I could actually see this being made into a movie. It went a totally different direction than I thought it would but it was excellent.

This was definitely a different type of legal thriller than the ones I am used to watching on Netflix and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I think Madison is a very relatable ambitious character and I found myself rooting for either her or Judge Conroy throughout the story!

The Intern takes interesting twists at the status quo of legal thrillers, making it unique and compelling. We follow a strait-laced Harvard law student who is enamored with her professor- a federal judge. She will do anything to get in her good graces and advance her career; however, when it is revealed that the judge may be a part of the framing of her brother and lots of other legal corruption (even murder!) their relationship becomes much more complex.
This thriller was quite involved, but did drag at some points. I also really enjoyed the different timelines and how that played in to the narrative of the story.
Overall, a well written novel centering around corruption and power in the judicial system and the importance of family.

I listened to the audiobook of this one and I felt like the narrator did a great job brining the two main narrators to life and helping them to be character I cared about the outcome of. Overall the only two I truly cared about in the book are Lucy (who doesn’t love a cat) and Grace (who doesn’t root for the innocent child). I found the book to not be 100% believable (although I do believe that anyone could become corrupt) but I enjoyed the wild ride and I liked that you got to see the story from both Madison (second year law student at Harvard) and Katherine (federal judge deep in the grasp of unsavory individuals). Madison doesn’t believe her brother when he tells her he has been framed and his attorney, the police officer, and judge were all in together. While his story doesn’t seem like the legal norm she can’t believe the judge she had idolized for years would do that. When she is offered an internship with the judge she tells herself she’ll try to help her brother, but she also wants to help her own career. Unfortunately not all that glitters is gold and Madison needs to tread carefully or she’ll lose more than her law degree. Overall I gave it 3.5 stars.

Fast paced legal thriller meets mob thriller in this interesting tale told in dual POV.

Madison is the new intern for Judge Kathryn Conroy but she has a terrible secret. Her brother Danny has been arrested and Conroy is the judge for the case. Things get even more sour when he goes missing and Madison must figure out if her idol is actually a corrupted judge.

I enjoyed this book ok but I didn't love it. The way the book was pitched, I assumed it would mostly be legal focused and a cat and mouse type relationship between the Judge and Madison. It felt like it moved on from this very quickly and got a lot more into a mob type thriller which I wasn't expecting. There wasn't even a single courtroom scene so I just felt like I was a little disappointed in the way the plot went.

I also felt some of the characters were frustrating at times. Madison's mother's expectations were often ridiculous, especially for a law student and not even someone practicing.

The narrator was good, they had good inflection and easy to understand/follow. I do wish that the voice they used for madison was a little less childlike, for some reason it kept making me think she was younger than she actually was.

Overall, this book was a quick fast paced read and If you enjoy stories about the mob then this is a good read for that!

Madison Rivera is a Harvard Law Student. She has admired Judge Kathryn Conroy ever since she heard her speak at a high school career day. Now, the judge is one of Madison’s professors. After class one day, Judge Conroy asks Madison to apply to be her intern. This is Madison’s dream come true, but will her brother Danny’s legal troubles get in her way? Danny has pleaded guilty to heroin trafficking, but claims he was framed. Danny claims the police, his lawyer, and Judge Conroy are all in on the frame job. When Danny goes missing, Madison finally starts to believe her brother. Is Judge Conroy, Madison’s idol and mentor really in on this? Madison is determined to find out.

Michele Campbell does an excellent job with character development here. I immediately felt connected to Madison and her experiences. The story was fast-paced and had me turning up the speed to listen to the book faster. The narration was clear and perfect. I enjoyed the dual timeline, slowly revealing details of each character’s past. I highly recommend it to anyone that enjoys thrillers! I give it 4/5 stars.

The Intern is a suspenseful, legal thriller that will make you want to look over your shoulder when you are walking anywhere alone! It has slow building suspense, major family drama, complicated working environments, and more!

Madison is a hard working Harvard law student that gets offered the chance of a lifetime to be an intern at her teachers law office. Madison also has a secret: her brother Danny has been arrested and the judge on the case is her teacher. There is complicated family pressure to help her brother out, who claims innocence, and has Madison questioning her morals and how far she would go to help family.

Kathryn is an established Federal judge that teaches at Harvard and happens to offer her student Madison an internship. She takes a liking to Madison, but not without reason. Kathryn slowly shares her story and backstory, which entangle with Madison’s in various ways. The judge has done some questionable things and things may be catching up with her.

🎧 Sarah Mollo-Christensen did a great job narrating both Madison and Kathryn’s POVs. She played both characters very believably, from Madison when she was a nervous unknowing intern to the established confident Judge Kathryn, with all of her secrets and myteriousness.
