Madison Rivera is a law student at Harvard. Ever since she heard a speech by Federal Judge Kathyrn Conroy at her high school, Madison has idolized her, wanting to become like her. Judge Kathyrn Conroy becomes an adjunct professor at Harvard, and Madison is now her student. When she is offered an internship to work for Judge Kathyrn, Madison is ecstatic, believing she now has her idol as a mentor. But her excitement soon turns sour when her brother Danny gets arrested for narcotics and his case lands in Judge Kathyrn’s court. Madison realizes she must keep this a secret from her new employer if she wishes to hold onto her internship.

Things take a turn for the worse when Danny goes missing in the jail, but not before he tells Madison that he was innocent and was being framed by a dirty cop, his own lawyer and that the Judge was in on it. Madison’s world comes crashing down from all sides with this information.

The story is told from dual POVs – one of Madison and the other of Judge Kathyrn. With the second POV, we read more about the Judge’s past, in particular, her upbringing and how she came to be associated with the dirty cop and lawyer. The story begins with Madison’s POV but soon shifts to Judge Kathyrn’s. This was a fast-paced read as we quickly got into the thick of the plot. The switching POVs made for an interesting read. However, with the number of characters, it was sometimes hard to keep up with which character was from which POV. It felt like the focus was more on the Judge’s story than Madison’s despite it being titled The Intern. My other issue with this book was that it was called a Legal Thriller. I expected some form of courtroom drama to be a part of the book, alas that was not to be. While this was a story about a Judge and her intern who is a law student, there was nothing else to this being much of a legal thriller as opposed to a regular thriller.

I listened to the audiobook ARC of The Intern and the narration by Sarah Mollo-Christensen was done well. I was able to guess the outcome and was happy with how it ended. Overall, I enjoyed the pacing and the story itself. I give it 3.75 stars out of 5 rounded up to 4.

Thank you to NetGalley, St Martin’s Press, and Macmillan Audio for providing me with the audio ARC in exchange for an honest review.

The Intern is a twisty book that will keep you hooked from the first to the last page. I loved the narrator for this book. She kept me interested in the story (which is great by itself) with her tone changes and pacing.

I finished The Intern yesterday and after ruminating on it for the night it lands around 3.75⭐️.

It’s an easy and quick read with a TON of drama from start to finish. I enjoyed some of the characters stories more than others and found the ending to be solid. However, there was some inconsistency and moments of implausibility that I struggled with and that dropped it down on the rating scale.

I tried the audio at first and didn’t like it. There were pauses and inflections done at the wrong time which distracted from the story and the main character felt to breathy for the type of person she was supposed to be. I switched to my physical book halfway through and enjoyed it a lot more that way.

The Intern is a fast-moving thriller involving a law student and her professor, who is a federal judge. There are a lot of secrets in this story. Madison, the law student, is ecstatic at being given the chance to be an intern for Judge Kathryn Conroy. The only problem is that her brother has been arrested (he’s innocent, he says) and Conroy has the case. So Madison conveniently omits the fact that she even has a brother in her conversations with the judge and in her employment paperwork. You just know that’s going to come back to haunt her! The book flips between the present day and some chapters detailing Conroy’s backstory. I won’t be more specific, but there are some major issues in her background. The story has a lot of twists, some of which I anticipated, but that didn’t spoil my enjoyment. This was my first book by this author, who has a background in law, so those sections felt quite realistic.

I bounced between the audiobook and the ebook for this title, which was very convenient. The audiobook was narrated beautifully by Sarah Mollo-Christensen. A minor complaint: she didn’t utilize any New England/Boston accents, even though most of the characters are native to Boston. I found that a bit jarring, being familiar with that regional accent.

Thank you to St. Martin’s Press and NetGalley for the opportunity to read an advance reader copy of this book and to Macmillan Audio and NetGalley for the opportunity to listen to an advance copy of this audiobook. All opinions are my own.

I wanted to enjoy The Intern by Michelle Campbell but found the plotline to be one that has been told countless times beforehand. I wasn't surprised much by the shocking twists and preferred the first twenty five percent of the novel to the last bit. Overall, narrator Sarah Mollo-Christinasen kept me listening until the end.

This book was very well written and well paced! I received an ARC from the publisher in exchange for my honest feedback, and I can honestly say I enjoyed it! I liked the fact that it centered around law/lawyers, which added a different sort of angle to the story, and it kept me on the edge of my seat while I was listening. The characters weren’t super developed or central to the story, it was more the circumstances they were dealing with and the situations they got themselves involved with, so for me, the characters felt a little flat. But the story and situations were gripping, and I did enjoy how the end came together, since I wasn’t quite expecting it. If you’re looking for decent narration and a pretty good plot, I’d definitely check out this book!

The Intern, by Michele Campbell, is a thriller told in two different POVs in (mostly) two different timelines. Madison is a Harvard law student who is trying to save her brother from jail for a crime he didn't commit. Kathryn is Madison's law professor, who also happens to be the judge in Madison's brother's trial. When Madison was given the opportunity to serve as Kathryn's intern, she jumped at the opportunity in hopes of helping her brother. But, soon she realizes that she is in way over her head.

I appreciated the two different points of view, particularly learning about Kathryn's motivations for some of her actions. While book kept me entertained, I did find it to be very implausible (particularly the ending).

The narrator, Sarah Mollo-Christensen, did a fantastic job providing the voices for both characters. Her narration made it easy to distinguish between Madison and Kathyn throughout the book.

Thank you to NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for the advanced copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.

Action-packed suspense crime setup

Maddison is a law student. She has been asked by Judge Katherine Cornwell to apply for the internship as a law clerk in the judges' chambers.
Maddison has a brother who has been arrested. She doesn't want the judge to think she's hiding anything but at the same time wants to save her brother. He is innocent
Katherine has had a very interesting life. Her uncle has helped her get to where she is, but help doesn't come free
Can Katherine and Maddison become one, or will this internship get Maddison killed

Let’s start this off by saying I really liked this book, it kept me engaged and interested, and I HAD to know how it ended. I also liked the narrator, and I can be a bit picky with narrators.

Read this if you like political/lawyer/criminal books, mentor/mentee relationships, and mob plot.

I will say, some parts were a tad unbelievable (like the end), and sometimes Madison did annoy me. But as I mentioned, I was totally engaged throughout, and there were definitely some twists. I appreciated how she laid out the conspiracy, included the law elements, and highlighted the force of the mob. I also loved the growth and flip of one key player.

⭐️⭐️⭐️💫

🎧 4.5⭐️

I had the audiobook read by Sarah Mollo- Christensen who does a good job with the narration.

A legal thriller which doesn’t use the Courtroom with this character driven mystery.

A young intern Madison lands the job of a lifetime working for Judge Kathryn Conroy.

Madison has a huge secret her brother Danny has been arrested, his case is under Judge Conroy. Danny has gone missing after accusing the Judge of corruption.
Madison finds herself drawn into the life Judge Conroy in an attempt to save her brother.

It’s told by 2 POV, Madison and Kathryn. Madison is the main narrator.

It grabbed my interest quickly, it’s fast paced with lots going on throughout with the revelations that felt believable. There’s a good plot complexity for interest.

Madison definitely has rose tinted glasses in her adoration for the Judge, she’s somewhat naive and is easily manipulated by both her mother and the Judge. It doesn’t make her the strongest of main characters, she’s likeable enough though.

It’s very entertaining. It’s one I’d recommend. Especially the audiobook format.

What a crazy ride!!!!

The Intern is a thriller where a very driven Harvard Law School student vies for an intern position with one of the most sought after judges in Boston. Maddie has a secret in her family that she desperately wants to keep hidden to get the internship.

I’m going to be honest that some of the dialogue and back and forth that Maddie goes through is a bit over the top. But this story took so many different twists and turns that I have to look beyond the sometimes overdone dialogue. This book was so much better than I expected. I thought I was going to read some run of the mill thrillers. Not this book!!

Thank you so so much to St Martins Press and NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.

The Intern is the story of a young Harvard law student falls under the spell of a charismatic judge in this timely and thrilling novel about class, ambition, family and murder.

I’m not usually a fan of legal thrillers but this was a fun one. Multiple POV’s and dual timelines are keys to keep me turning pages fast. So many juicy secrets and crooked cops/lawyers made this bingeable. Be sure to check this one out if you’re looking for a story full of backstabbery and lies!

The biggest take away from this one is don’t meet your heroes!

This was a good thriller from Campbell it moved a long at a good clip and kept you on the edge of your seat just wondering when all the lies and stories were going to catch up to these two ladies. This story is told by 2 different ladies one is the intern Madison and the other is the judge Kathryn but the secrets between them will change everything.

This is one I don’t want to give anything away I liked this one!

Narrator Sarah Mollo-Christensen did an excellent job and made the 2 women’s voices different enough that you always knew who was talking.

Another good thriller from Campbell!

4 stars

I received this audiobook from the publisher Macmillan Audio and NetGalley for a fair and honest review.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC opportunity!

This story is told from two point of views, Judge Conroy, and Madison, her new intern who won the coveted internship spot. Both women have secrets, with a pretty big issue being that Madison doesn’t disclose that her brother, who’s been arrested, is on Judge Conroy’s docket. The judge herself also has secrets that are influencing this story and coming back to haunt her.

I didn’t find anything too surprising here, but it was an easy read, especially if you like a legal element added to your mystery’s. Though this wasn’t highly rated for me, I’m sure others would enjoy it.

Such an engaging listen.

Narrator was fantastic, the plot and storyline were well done with no plot holes, and it was so engaging I didn’t find myself nodding off once during my overnight shift.

This was my first Michele Campbell book and it will not be my last! The last part of the year is when I devour thrillers and mysteries the most to balance out my holiday music & movies obsession—I see a whole lot of Michele Campbell I’m these next couple months!

Next stop on the Booksparks fall book tour is with this twisty, legal thriller, The Intern. I am a fan of Michele Campbell, so was very excited to get a chance to read this before its pub date of October 3rd. Thank you BookSparks for the gifted copy! I wasn’t sure exactly what to expect going in, but this book definitely surprised me! It went places I didn’t see it going and although some things were a little predictable, it kept me on my toes and was an entertaining read!

This is my first time reading a Michele Campbell, it was my Sept BOTM pick and I was lucky enough to get the advanced audio for review. Bonus for me that I could do a hybrid read.

Madison has always wanted to be a lawyer and idolizes one of her profs who, also happens to be a judge. When the opportunity to intern in her office arises, well Madison can hardly refuse that offer. Enter her family problems which takes her down a path least expected. Everything isn't as it seems. Soon she is caught up in a cat and mouse game of survival.

The Intern is a twisted story that weaves through time to give the reader a clear picture of what has happened and the whys of what's going on now. I'm glad for the audio, the reader, Sarah Mollo-Christensen did a great job telling the story and differentiating between the different points of view. There is a lot to take in and keep straight along with some suspending of belief (especially in the legal department). The ending was fitting and didn't really exceed my expectations. An intriguing read with some suspense and heartache.

My thanks to Macmillan Audio for an advance copy of the audio (in exchange for a honest review) while my print copy was through my BOTM subscription.

Madison Rivera was attending law school at Harvard, when an internship with her favorite judge, Kathryn Conroy literally fell in her lap. Problem is, both the internship and the judge are worlds away from what she expected. Madison knows she’s in over her head!

With dual timelines, we journey deep into the judge’s past. In particular her upbringing, and what she had to endure to hold the position she has today.

Though this is titled The Intern, and she did play a role, I think a better title would have been The Judge because she was the true focus of this story.

While this wasn’t my favorite from this author, there was enough intrigue to keep me wanting to see how it all played out.

I started this read in digital, and switching to the audio about a third of the way. Both formats work well. The narration provided by Sarah Mollo-Christensen fit the characters and was pleasant to listen to. Though I do think there was an opportunity to have an additional narrator.

Thank you to NetGalley, St Martin’s Press and Macmillan Audio.

A law student is put in a compromising position where she has to choose between her future and her family. Does she choose the right path? I would consider this book a "law thriller", similar to work by John Grisham and others. The author does a good job developing the characters and have you rooting for the good guys, if you can tell who they are. This book was just the right length, enough time to develop the plot, but not drawn out. I listened to the audiobook and like the narrator.

This was such a fun, twisted, legal thriller to read. The story is based in the Boston area and told in a dual POV. I loved the MC, Madison and learning about her struggles and family. I enjoyed listening to the backstory about the Judge and seeing how the relationship with the Judge and Madison grew. This book has secrets, lies, and workplace drama. I was invested from the very beginning and I absolutely loved the ending!
