A decent thriller. Two POVs. Starts very slow. It kept me intrigued enough to see how everything played out. But it was just okay for me.

This book was marketed as a legal thriller, but it was less legal thriller and more cat-and-mouse (i.e., the legal side of things/the fact this had to do with a judge and law student didn't REALLY come into play). Regardless, I found myself really enjoying this book. It's about a mob of (seemingly) gangsters, who a judge owes some debts to. It was less "who is the bad guy" (because the bad guys are made known very early one) and more "how are they going to get away, if at all?" There were tons of morally grey characters, which I found thoroughly enjoyable - it was hard to decide who to root for, if anyone at all.
I thought the audio was well done, and the ending was satisfying! 4 stars.

A dream come true for Madison Rivera, a Harvard law student as she acquires a job working for the prestigious Judge Kathryn Conroy. All seems well even though Madison has a few skeletons in her closet, her brother for one who is soon to come to trial in front of Judge Conroy.
Conroy herself has a few skeletons some of the brand new that she is involved with. With its dual timeline, we delve into the murkiness in the Judge's past as well as coming to realize that Madison is like a sheep being thrown to the wolves.
The ladies become "pals" and it seems very strange to Madison since the Judge's reputation was one of aloofness. When Danny, Madison's brother accuses everyone, (including the judge) of corruption, the game of cat and mouse is on as Madison sets out to find the truth.
This was a fun book whose pace kept the interest going, filled with lies, secrets, betrayal, and of course murder.
Thank you to Michelle Campbell, Macmillan Audio, and NetGalley for the ability to listen to this story.

This book had a nice mix of thriller and the struggle to help family that are terrible at helping themselves. There were several plot points that kept me guessing and the ending was satisfying.
Thank you, Netgalley for the copy!

Madison is a young Harvard student who is offered an internship with her professor (who is also a federal judge.) She gets in too deep with the judge’s secrets and corruption, leading her into a dangerous cat-and-mouse game with very powerful and dangerous people.
This is a suspenseful legal thriller that was so entertaining, even if it was a bit far-fetched. The character development and pacing were both enough to keep me fully engaged. I enjoyed the dual POVs and the audiobook narration is great, moving the story right along. My only complaint: it could’ve been a tad shorter.

While it was off to a slow start, I really ejoyed this book. I found it intriguing to watch the story unfold from different perspectives. And I loved the ending.

I always enjoy Michelle Campbell books and they tend to suck me in right from the start - well this one was no different! I loved the law school intern/legal thriller premise and the plot of it was really unique! I also really enjoyed the differing POV from Madison and Judge Conroy. I literally couldn't stop listening because I simply *HAD* to know how Judge Conroy got herself into this precarious situation and how on earth Madison as going to fix all of her mess! Of course, some suspension of belief is necessary with this book but I absolutely flew through it. The narrator was GREAT! Such a soothing voice and yet somehow also had me on the edge of my seat! fantastic read!

I want to give NetGalley and MicMillian Audio a thank-you for allowing me a copy of an advance readers copy of The Intern.
I’m late to the party as the book was released in October.
This is my first book by Michelle Campbell, and it was so good. This cat and mouse, legal thriller started slow and then picked up. The story follows, Madison a Law Student begins working with Katherine Conroy, her law professor - the same judge who is working on her brother’s case.
There are a lot of secrets some which will unravel, and some they wish they never told.

I found this book compulsively readable (technically listen-able as I have the audiobook version). The narrator was fantastic and the storyline was engaging.
Thank you to NetGalley and the Publisher for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Interesting story that followed two different women. It was easier to follow than I expected and had some good twists and turns. The only thing that was confusing to me was the different time periods especially when it would jump back to present day but was actually a past moment from the previous portion. I wish this had been explained or formatted a little better with a time stamp or something. Good amount of thriller and mystery without being gory. Narrator did a great job even with jr following two different main characters in third person, I wasn’t confused due to how it was written.

Minor: Incest and Cursing
Thank you Net Galley, the publisher, and the author for the opportunity to review the audio of this book!

I want to thank NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for providing this book for review. I want to make it clear that all the opinions in this review are my own.
"The Intern" by Michele Campbell is an exciting story about Madison Rivera, a Harvard student who gets an internship with Judge Kathryn Conroy, whom she greatly admires. However, Madison has a secret: her brother was arrested, and Judge Conroy is handling his case. Things become even more intense when Madison's brother goes missing after accusing the judge of being corrupt, and the judge becomes Madison's mentor.
I'm thrilled that I chose this novel as my first read by Michele Campbell. The story kept me on the edge of my seat, always wondering what would happen next. The characters are caught up in a web of manipulation, where they have to please others while also ensuring their own safety. Madison, in particular, finds herself in confusing and challenging situations as she tries to uncover the judge's true identity.
Madison's character resonated with me because of the difficult circumstances she faces. It made me think about how I would act in a similar situation. As someone who has worked hard to build my own career, I can relate to the challenges of getting ahead in competitive fields. Madison's dilemma struck a chord with me as she tries to do what's right while also trying to impress and maintain her relationship with someone she deeply admires.
In conclusion, I really enjoyed this thrilling audiobook. I highly recommend "The Intern" to fans of police procedural books and thrillers.

I expected nothing less than great from Michelle Campbell but this by far her best book yet! I was so enthralled with the story that I found myself cleaning extra and actually folding and putting away laundry because I wanted to keep listening! I loved the narrator! I’ll definitely keep her on my list of go-to people to listen to!

Thank you NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for an advanced copy of this audiobook.
Written in dual POV, The Intern tells the story of Madison Rivera and Judge (and professor) Kathryn Conroy. We learn about Kathryn’s shady past and the things that she’s done - deliberately or not - to get to where she is. We learn about Madison, a student in Kathryn’s class at Harvard who’s brother is mixed up in a drug case that sits before the judge. Madison lands a job as Kathryn’s intern and quickly realizes her idol is not who she thought she was. Madison becomes tangled in the dark side of the law and can’t seem to find a way out.
This heart-pounding, fast- paced book had me listening with only a reluctant break to go to sleep. This is a well woven mystery with complex characters. The judge’s character development was just fantastic, Madison’s was a little lacking.
I really enjoyed this book and would recommend it to others who like fast-paced mysteries.

THE INTERN was a decent binge, however not my favorite 2023 thriller! There were some plot holes that had me suspending belief to make it all fit together and be realistic, but I did enjoy it overall. My favorite part was the dual POVs and both female MCs. If you're a thriller lover, you'll enjoy this one!

Can it be true? Is this really her luck?
Madison Rivera is a young Harvard law student who is motivated and impressed by her professor, who is also a very powerful judge. In this novel, we witness just how strong the bonds of family, career, and murder can ultimately be.
I had never read a book by Michele Campbell before but to say I was impressed would be grossly understated. I was invested from the very beginning through the end. It is definitely a must-read!
Thank you for my ARC from Netgalley and Macmillan Audio productions from St. Martin’s Press.

This is not my normal type of book topic, but I really enjoyed it. It was engaging, even with the politic talk.

Great legal thriller, I was very entertained by the twists. Nice narration, I enjoyed it. Thanks to netgalley and publisher for this arc in exchange for an honest review.

I loved this book! I will definitely recommend it. Thanks so much to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC.

I am giving this story a 3.5-star rating. The narrator was excellent. I have just started reading thrillers this year. I was about to DNF it due to the legal parts but decided to stick it out. I am glad I did. I did enjoy the twists in the story.

I had high hopes for this book. I'd probably rate it a 2.5 or 2.75, but will round up to 3 for this review. It started slow and by the time things started to pick up a little, I just didn't really care about the characters like I should and just wanted to get through the book. I know there will be people that love this book or at least really like it, but it was just too slow for me.
