In the end I really liked this book, although I didn't think I would feel that way when I started. I have to be very careful when I read anything having to do with the law because of my personal history, and that is especially true when law school is involved. That's just me and my sanity. The Intern is my third Michele Campbell read, and I enjoyed the previous two so much that I will do my best to grab pretty much anything she writes. I was similarly nervous starting It's Always the Husband, but there Michele Campbell quickly managed to assuage my fears. Ditto for The Intern. This is because The Intern is a work of fiction. Perusing some of the reviews it would seem that some people either don't get that, or, because Michele Campbell is a trained lawyer, they expected The Intern to be realistic fiction. Well, it's not. (Or, maybe it is. I never went to Harvard Law. I've never lived in Boston. I never clerked for a judge. I wouldn't know about those aspects of the story. Come to think of it, though, Michele Campbell's descriptions of the personalities at main Justice did make me smirk. Eh, food for thought.)
Anyway, moving on, I will continue to read Michele Campbell. I recommend The Intern to anyone who likes quickly paced thrillers with strong female personalities.
I would really, really like to thank Macmillan Audio for allowing me to experience this NetGalley audiobook. This is due to Sarah Mollo-Christensen's narration. I am still in complete awe that a single narrator read this entire work. Sarah Mollo-Christensen brought each and every character to life, some with such distinct voices that I double-checked to make sure she really was the only performer. I can only guess that her work elsewhere is what stops her from being as prolific as, say, Julia Whelan. Man, is Sarah Mollo-Christensen good! I do believe I could enjoy listening to her read the phone book. Friends, if you like full-cast narration, please do consider Sarah Mollo-Christensen's solo work. You should not be disappointed.

When Madison Rivera applied to this coveted internship, what she got was not at all what she expected.
I liked that our two main characters were both women who built their careers from nothing, even though they had secrets to hide. The judge was a particularly interesting character because she was certainly flawed. I couldn't wait to find out whether one of them was an unreliable narrator or if something else was at play.
I do wish we got a bit more about Madison's background. Since the author went into way more depth with the judge's background, Madison felt like a bit of a pawn throughout most of the book. Kathryn's development was so well done that it felt a bit unbalanced.
The ending is one you don't want to miss. If you like legal thrillers, this one will certainly keep you on the edge of your seat.

Fast paced, entertaining, and expertly narrated. A recommended purchase for collections where legal thrillers are popular.

I had already read part of the book so I started the audiobook and it definitely helped me get into the story. Love Michele Campbells writing. Highly recommend. Thank you NetGalley for this ARC

This is my second of Michele Campbell and I have to say - I am a fan. I definitely want to read more of her work.

The Intern is a legal thriller that is told in dual POV between Madison Rivera, a law school student who gets a job as an intern for a well known judge, and the judge, Kathryn Conroy who may or may not be crooked.
•
This book is filled with lies and deception and both of our main characters are determined to keep the other in the dark as they work both for and against each other. The Intern is a super quick singable read that I found to be super addicting. I couldn’t stop listening because I needed to know what was going to happen. Both characters are flawed, but also so complex that you cant help but love them and root for them in the long run. There were perfectly placed twists in this one and the ending of the story was great.

I listened to this one via audiobook. The narrator Sarah Mollo-Christensen did a great job at distinguishing two different voices for each character. I found this one super easy to follow as well.

Overall, this was a great legal thriller to start the month off with. Again this is super fast paced and will have your eyes glued to the pages. Highly recommending it to all of my legal thriller or psychological thriller fans! The Intern was just released on 10/3, be sure to check this one out!

Huge thank you to NetGalley, Michele Campbell and Macmillan Audio for the ALC in exchange for my honest review.

I did not like this book. I couldn’t get into it and not even the audiobook helped. I picked it up and put it down many times. It was too slow paced.

Thank you to NetGalley and Macmillian Audio for the audio-ARC of The Intern.
Unfortunately, this book was a struggle for me to get through. Honestly, if it wasn't an ARC and I didn't feel like I needed to finish it, I would have DNF'd this after a couple of chapters.
To say this book started slow is an understatement. I kept hoping the plot would pick up, but it never did. I found it overly predictable and there was nothing new about this story. It's a premise that I feel has been done over and over again.
Madison, the main character, made me want to scream. We get it, you're a second-year law student and you must be the most naive almost-lawyer in the history of mankind. I have even worse things to say about the rest of the characters in the book, so maybe it's just better left unsaid at this point. Let's face it, I hated all the characters in the story except for Lucy (the cat).
The Intern felt longer than it needed to be, but maybe that's just me wishing it was over from almost the beginning. This was clearly not the book for me.

I really enjoy all the thrillers by Campbell. This was a good read, not my favorite by her but it was still good. There wasn't as much that shocked me, but it was still well written.

I really enjoyed this read! It had a unique feel to it and I loved all the twists. I thought the manipulation and corruption with all the characters made this book difficult to put down.

Thank you NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for the advanced copy in exchange for an honest review!

Okay this cover immediately grabbed me and I was totally invested as soon as I read the synopsis. I loved the connection between a law student and her finding out about potential corruption and trying to get to the bottom of it without putting herself in trouble. As someone who’s husband went through law school and being with him throughout his journey, I really appreciated the authors authenticity to the book and it definitely seemed like they did their research on what law students go through during school. I loved how fast paced this book was and it just kept me wanting more and more. I loved the dual POV of Kathryn and Madison because I feel like it just helped the reader understand everything that was going on through both sides.
I loved the narrator of this book! I felt like she drew the listener in and just kept me engaged throughout the book. The narrator will definitely go on my list of narrators I would like to listen to books from in the future!
Overall, this is definitely one that kept my interest and I enjoyed reading! Definitely one I would recommend!

5 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟for The Intern by Michele Campbell,
Narrated by Sarah Mollo-Christensen.
This is a great Legal Thriller. Well written and beautifully narrated.
The characters are well developed and the plot is constructed to keep you guessing and on the edge of your seat. The characters can be really good or really bad. There are no dull moments.
Thank you NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for allowing me to review this Audiobook.
This was a joy to listen to!

This book was spectacular - I absolutely loved the ending, but it was a journey getting there! I really enjoyed the characters in this book and appreciated that they were not just good or bad - there was depth to them that some thrillers can lack. The suspense was high, and I was worried for Madison the entirety of the book. This is such a fun read.

Legal thriller fans will really enjoy this -- especially those who are interested in Harvard politics, the seedier side of law, and powerful organizations that make offers you can't refuse.
The dual points of view worked well, and it was a very entertaining listen, but in the end, the info-dumpiness of the first half got to me. That, and perhaps legal thrillers just aren't my jam.
Thanks to NetGalley, the author, the narrator, and the publisher for providing a copy of this audio in exchange for my honest review.

Corruption is the name of the game in this legal thriller. Madison, a law student, clinches an internship working for Judge Conroy (also one of her law professors), this should be the opportunity of a lifetime, but it ends up potentially costing her her life. Madison's brother is framed for a crime he didn't commit and Madison is determined to help him. Using her connections to the judge, who is also the judge assigned to her brother's case, she uncovers a web of corruption. Is the judge guilty or is she just a pawn in the game too? How far will Madison and the judge go to protect and stay loyal to their families? Where is the root of all this evil and who's innocent and who's guilty?
Hold on for a twist-filled wild ride. This was a super entertaining, and attention keeping book. Even if you're not a huge legal-thriller fan (I'm usually not), you'll enjoy this one! The narration was great too. All around a solid read/listen!

Very suspenseful, kept me guessing till the end. Its not what youre expecting when you see the title 'The Intern'.

I listened to this book while traveling, so my review might be a little off since some of the pieces were listened at during times that I might have been distracted. The first part of the book felt slower than anticipated, but picked up in parts 2-4. Not sure that I loved the ending, but things made more sense by then. For readers who are looking forward to college or legal education and how some situations can be clouded by past events. Many readers will love this thriller will less blood and more collusion.

The Intern by Michele Campbell was a fun read! I feel like this was a different pace from other legal thrillers that I have read and it kept me on the edge of my seat throughout. I had the privilege of listening to the audio version of the novel, which I highly recommend.
Madison Rivera is a law student at Harvard who has an opportunity to intern for her idol, Judge Kathryn Conroy. At the same time, Madison's brother, Danny, is arrested and forced to plead guilty in a capital drug case which is being overseen by none other than, Judge Conroy. Now torn between supporting her brother and pursuing her dream career, Madison needs to tread carefully. But there are deeper conspiracies at play here, and soon Madison finds herself in deep with people who are willing to go to great lengths to keep their operations running smoothly.
The Intern definitely had me second guessing everything and trusting no one. A quick read that is well worth it.

THE INTERN by Michele Campbell is a heart-throbbing and unputdownable legal thriller that keeps you at the edge of your seat. From the moment I started reading, I was hooked, flipping pages eagerly to uncover the mysteries and challenging cliffhangers that the author skillfully weaves throughout the story. The dual points of view from Madison Rivera and Judge Kathryn Conroy make this novel an engaging and thought-provoking read. The plot is perfectly paced, offering an intriguing mystery and well-executed revelations that are both surprising and believable. The conclusion ties up loose ends neatly, leaving readers satisfied. The only minor drawback was the complex web of characters and their connections, which occasionally required going back to piece things together. However, in the end, the intricate web contributed to the depth of the story. As a fan of well-written, fast-paced legal thrillers, I can wholeheartedly recommend THE INTERN. It's a captivating and satisfying read that will leave you on the edge of your seat until the very last page.

Thank you to NetGalley for an advanced audiobook copy of this book.
This book has vibes of the TV show "How to Get Away With Murder". A law student gets the opportunity to apply for an internship with her professor who is also a judge. The only problem is it's the same judge that is trying her brother's court case. Should she believe her brother that the judge is crooked, or believe the judge that she has always idolized?
I really enjoyed this book. I felt like the ending was too wrapped up quickly, but overall it kept my interest, was easy to listen to, and had two dynamic narrators. There wasn't too many characters, and they were all different enough to keep track of without getting confused. I will definitely read more from this author.

The two tag lines for this book could be “You should never try to meet your heroes, lest they have feet of clay” and “There are no coincidences”. Madison is doing all she can to make the most of her time while studying at Harvard law school. She has been in love with the practice of law since she saw and heard Kathryn Conroy speak at her school as a teen. When an internship for this very judge drops into her lap at the same time her brother is arrested she is more than intrigued. let the games continue. For the judge they began when she was born and for Madison when her brother went down a different path than the one she chose. There author has crafted a scary, twisted tale that encompasses the all facets of the judicial system from the police up to the high echelons of the court system and every level in-between and some pretty terribly unsavory criminals as well. Can Madison and Judge Conroy outsmart them all and survive? With so much deceit, betrayal, out and out lies, threats and more it’s a compelling listen that had me waiting for the resolution. The narration added to the listening experience.
I received a copy of this book from Netgalley.com in exchange for a fair and honest review.
