Thank you to both Netgalley and the publisher for the option to read and review.
The Intern was a fun ride, with a lot of twists along the way. At the end of the day, I didn't care much for either of the main characters, but I found the ending to be quite satisfying. I would definitely check out another book by this author.

The Intern is a riveting legal thriller with excellent twists and interesting characters! I listened to it in two days, I didn’t want to turn it off. I enjoyed the dual point of view. Both Madison and Kathryn are strong complicated characters and enjoyed seeing how their stories intertwined. The Intern is fast paced and captivating. It has complicated family dynamics, strong female characters, and will satisfy fans of police procedurals, legal thrillers, and law enforcement shows!

I really enjoyed this book. It follows two women whose stories become intertwined.
Madison lands her dream internship working for Judge Kathryn Conroy. The problem is that her brother Danny has been arrested, and Conroy is the judge on his case. Madison fears that is she tells the judge that Danny is her brother, she will lose her internship.
Danny thinks the judge is in on the scheme to have him take the blame for a drug bust. He goes missing from jail. Madison has to start investigating the judge, whom she has idolized for most of her life to figure out if she is a criminal.
Who is telling the truth? Can either women be trusted?

Madison Rivera is a student at Harvard Law. She is determined, hardworking, and so grateful to have been given the chance at an internship with one of her professors, Judge Kathryn Conroy . When Madison’s brother ends up in jail on a drug charge, she is afraid that his current choices will pose an obstacle for her career path. In a quick turn of events, Madison and Judge Conroy are forced into an unlikely bond. They must work together to save each other.
It was easy to become invested in Michelle Campbell’s characters. Each person’s personality was made up of several layers, secrets, and setting events. The beginning of the novel was slower than I would have liked, but the second half really picked up. This was an enjoyable legal drama and I’m happy to have picked it up.
Thank you to NetGalley and MacMillan Audio for the ALC in exchange for my honest review.

Thanks to NetGalley for a copy to review. The premise intrigued me and it didn’t go how I’d expected. The writing kept me hooked and I wanted to know the outcome of the Madison-Kathryn relationship. There were a lot of characters that popped up and I got a bit confused but overall enjoyed the story.

I had a lot of fun with this one. A legal thriller where it seemed like everything was impossible. The characters are that great mix of unlikable and likable. Your rooting for them in so many ways and thinking what the heck are you doing!
The narration was fantastic, the reading kept me coming to back to the audiobook and wanting more of the story.
Thank you to Macmillion Audio and Netgalley for my #gifted copy.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the ALC of "The Intern" by Michele Campbell. I had this on my TBR shelf for quite a while and i was suprised by the late add from the publisher. I love a good courtroom drama and this scratched that itch. I don't read them often, and good ones are tough to find. This book was up and down for me. I appreciated the story being told from more than one perspective and the secrets everyone seemed to have. Slow burn to build it up and the payoff was a sweet reward.

The Intern is a fast paced story, taking you from Boston to DC, knee deep in corruption and the political espionage of a mafia controlled judge and her intern whose only trying to clear her brothers name.
Michele Campbell does an amazing job of weaving this story through different POVs and time hops - where you think you have all the information, you really only have a sliver. Where you think you know motives - well, you just quite frankly don’t. And when you think you’ve figured out who is going down for the crime and who is getting off free…try again. I absolutely loved the way the book was paced - it was enough to build suspense and give the reader insight into how this all happened, but it was also not enough to make the story too predictable or unfolding too quickly to follow. There were parts where I had to go back and reread a section/replay a section of the audio book because a detail caught my attention and I wanted to double check my suspicion or connection.
As far as narration goes - I felt like the narrator did a great job being clear and easy to listen to. I could clearly understand her at even a 2.0 speed, and could still distinguish between her different character voices. I felt like pacing was great and the inflection and tone changed in a way that did the plot points justice to the story.
Overall this was so well done - I haven’t read a thriller like this in a while and it was so fun. Definitely a five star read and an author I’ll be returning to in the future.

This is such a fast paced thriller filled with twists and turns that swaps POV between Madison a Harvard law student who gets caught up in the mess of her professor and a judge with a sordid history, Kathryn.
When Madison’s brother gets set up and ends up in a web of years of crime with crooked cops, lawyers, and a potentially crooked judge who also happens to be the judge that Madison just applied to intern with who teaches one of her classes and Madison has idolized for years, this begins the sticky mess where Madison and Kathryn end up in a twisty and fast paced game of cat and mouse as they try to save themselves in this mess they get embroiled in.
I truly loved seeing how strong and badass these women each are, dealing with their own crap, that became weaved together and truly enjoyed how this one felt like the feeling I had when reading The Drowning Woman earlier this year, especially with the ending.
If you like fast paced, twisty, crime filled thrillers I highly recommend this one! Thanks so much to the publisher for my ARL copy in exchange for my honest review!

The Intern is a thrilling and captivating novel that had me on the edge of my seat from start to finish. I had the pleasure of experiencing the story through the audiobook version, and I must say the narration was impeccable, adding depth and emotion to an already engaging tale. This book easily deserves a solid 4-star rating.
One of the aspects I appreciated most about this book is its realism. In a world where corruption in politics and the justice system is not unheard of, the story feels all too plausible. The author skillfully weaves a web of mystery and suspense, making it impossible to predict the characters' next moves. As Madison and Judge Conroy engage in a dangerous cat-and-mouse game, the lines between mentorship, victimhood, and criminality blur, leaving readers questioning the true intentions of the characters.
While I thoroughly enjoyed this read, I reserved that final star because, at times, the story's complexity made it challenging to follow all the intricate plot threads.
In conclusion, The Intern is a gripping and thought-provoking thriller that explores the blurred lines between justice and corruption. I highly recommend it to anyone seeking a riveting mystery that keeps you hooked until the very last page.

Thank you to NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for the early listen!
What a great legal/crime thriller. This one will definitely leave you (it did me anyway) guessing in anticipation of what will happen next. Highly recommend!
Narrator did a superb job narrating the story. Definitely helped draw me in and held my attention until the end. Made it more of a nail biter!

First of I am not a fan of the narrator. She sounds immature and definitely takes away something from the book
The plot was pretty weak, there are a lot of secrets that are becoming more unrealistic than surprising as they are unrevealed.
The book felt long as I didn't really enjoy it and I couldn't connected with any of the characters.
Thank you NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for allowing me to read this book!

What a wild ride! I am not a fan of legal thrillers, however, this one changed my perspective on this sub-genre. I loved the way that Campbell constructed these characters. Not one was the perfect protagonist or antagonist. Each was flawed, but deserving of redemption. The layers of the plot, and the alternating points of view and timelines added to, instead of detracted from, the overall atmosphere and readability. I truly enjoyed this novel, and the narrator helped to make this story come together!

Madison Rivera an ambitious, smart, career focused law student at Harvard is offered the opportunity of a lifetime to intern for her professor and idol Judge Kathryn Conroy. However, Madison must decide between applying for the internship of her dreams or finding out what happened to her recently incarcerated brother Danny. We learn that not only is Judge Conroy presiding over Danny’s case but she’s potentially mixed up in some organized crime and other illegal activity.
Madison’s internship proves to be more than she bargained for and forces her to make decisions about her career, family, and ultimately her life.
This was my first law based thriller but it didn’t disappoint. I really enjoyed the audio of this book especially because it helped me stay connected with all the characters that were introduced throughout the novel. I also enjoyed the narration of this book and multiple POV.

The Intern is the most recent release from Michele Campbell. I have greatly enjoyed some of Campbell's past works, so was highly anticipating this release. Thanks to Macmillan Audio, I was granted access to the audiobook and recommend that format. Sarah Mollo-Christensen's narration fit perfectly. Especially as the drama picked up, she had me at the edge of my seat.
In this story we are getting two perspectives, Madison Rivera, a Harvard Law student, and Judge Kathryn Conroy, a full-time Judge and professor at the Law School. Madison is in one of Judge Conroy's classes, but she has looked up to her for much longer than that. In fact, Judge Conroy's speech at a career day Madison attended inspired her to enter Law School in the first place. Because of this, when Judge Conroy pulls Madison aside after class and urges her to apply for an open intern position at Conroy's office, Madison cannot believe her luck.
Unfortunately, Madison has some family issues that present a huge conflict of interest. Her younger brother is currently working his way through the court process, after being arrested in a drug bust, and Conroy is his assigned Judge. Madison, scared to reveal these details and risk her internship, hides the truth in her application. This omission has Madison on edge. She fears that like a house of cards, the entire thing, all her hard work and dreams, are just going to come crashing down around her.
Unbeknownst to Madison though, Judge Conroy has some major secrets of her own and she's about to draw Madison in way over her head.
I ended up having an absolute blast with this one. Initially, the first few chapters, I will admit, I was on the fence. I would say that this requires a little patience in the very beginning. When you aren't quite sure where it is going to go and whether or not you should be liking these characters.
Rest assured, Campbell is doing her thing. She's building it up, until there will be no doubt, you should be liking these characters and you will care. I became so invested in this story. I hardly looked up after the action really kicks off. I felt once the pace picked up, it skyrocketed.
I really enjoyed learning about these characters. Both Madison and Judge Conroy were very well developed, although I will say the focus was definitely more on the Judge than the intern. In fact, we even get a past perspective for Conroy, which shines light on how she ended up in the precarious situation she finds herself in, and ultimately pulls Madison into.
It was the back-and-forth between the two women though that I found truly engaging. I ended up loving both of them, but when you think about it, they were both quite similar and I think Judge Conroy felt that too. I think that's why she felt like Madison could handle what she was throwing at her.
Once you find out what is happening behind the scenes, the intensity continues to grow as well. As I approached the end, I started to feel a little desperate. I didn't see a solid resolution for either of the women. I love how Campbell pulled me in and had me stressing over these characters. It was so well played. I went on a journey with these two and had a great time doing it.
I would recommend this one to anyone who has enjoyed Campbell's work in the past, or to those Readers who enjoy Thrillers featuring a cat-and-mouse format. Also recommend if you enjoy Thrillers in a legal setting, or anything involving the shadier side of Boston politics.
After the slow start, I was tickled with where this went, how intense it got and how much I enjoyed it. Thank you to the publisher, St. Martin's Press and Macmillan Audio, for providing me with a copy to read and review. I cannot wait to see what Campbell is going to deliver next!

An entertaining legal thriller that is action packed. The majority of the book was closer to a 4, but the ending got a bit ridiculous for me. Still, I enjoyed the different plot lines.

This was such a fast compelling popcorn thriller! I found the MC to be a bit too naive but loved the professors' storyline! The audio was fantastic, I really enjoyed it!

First, I do think the narrator did a great job reading this book. While, I found this book to be average, it is not due to the narration by any means.
This book started out slow for me and then picked up, but unfortunately, I never really got invested in the plot or the characters. There was quite a bit of character and backstory building before we got to the main action of the book. Usually I enjoy that build up, but for some reason, it just seemed to drag for me. Perhaps it was because a lot of it just seemed just too far-fetched. I also just kept waiting for the legal part of "legal thriller" to kick in and it never did. Maybe it's me, but I don't think you can label a book a legal thriller based just on the fact that the main characters are a judge and a law-student. I expected a court-case or a trial or something beyond a potential corrupt judge. This was more a cat-and-mouse game that I just couldn't get into. So many others loved this book though so I do think it is just my personal preference!
Thank you NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for my ALC in exchange for an honest review.

This was such a fun legal thriller even though the courtroom aspect was pretty nonexistent. I loved trying to figure out what Madison and Kathryn were going to do next. There were some amazing villains in this one that I really loved to hate. The ending was perfect and I was sad that it was over. This was my first Campbell book but definitely won’t be my last. I went between reading and listening and both were great so you’ll be good either way!

Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for a copy of The Intern on Audiobook. All opinions of this book are mine and mine alone.
This book is described as a legal "thriller" that switches POV between Madison and Judge Conroy. I was excited to receive a copy of this book, especially since it was a September Book of the Month, but this book fell short for me. Personally, I did not like Madison's character. I could not stand her mom (#eldestdaughterproblems) and overall found her to be annoying. I did enjoy Kathy's POV more and felt it was easier to get invested in her side of the story and felt that's where the meat and potatoes of the story actually was.
I read this through audiobook and the narrator was good enough, but the story could've benefitted from multiple readers. The narrator's male voices were just plain bad and the dialogue bordered on cringey.
Overall, I did not feel that it was a thriller, but more of a mob story, which I know personally, does not appeal to me. This could absolutely have influenced how I took this book in, but sadly, this was a big miss.
