What is a triller!
This one caused me sleepless nights because I couldn't put it down!
I love the plot, characters...
Grace’s daughter Katy never came home. It’s been 10 years and the case has gone truly cold. Grace has never given up though and when a true crime documentary wants to focus on Katy’s disappearance, Grace decides to participate.
But she has no idea how the show will be edited. When Katy looks like she is to blame for her own disappearance, Grace is devastated. On the positive side, some new information emerges, and Grace is determined to find her daughter.
This book may have started a bit slow, but once it got moving, it was a page flipper. Told from Grace’s POV in the now, and by Katy in the days leading up to her disappearance, we learn just what happened to her.
Let me mention the ending. I both loved it and hated it. I can’t say why because of spoilers, so you’ll have to read this one if you want to know what happened to Katy.
Thanks to Netgalley and Harper Collins and One More Chapter for the ARC of this book.
Was an interesting read and a very good way of telling the story. Found it slow at first but it picked up later in the book and I then wizzed through because I just had to know the outcome.
Well worth reading I think as it presented the “True Crime” element really well.
Twists and turns at every corner, I devoured it. I had an inkling what was going on but not the depth of it. A cracking read.
When I saw the first review for this book it was short and simple. ‘This book is amazing!’ It was enough to make me check it out and I’m so glad I did as I’ve become so engrossed into Katy’s story, the twenty year old who went missing.
I adore true crime documentaries and regularly watch them on Netflix so the format of this book is what really pulled me in and firmly gripped my fascination of what happened to Katy.
It has a feel of a true crime documentary with the intense thrills of a gripping thriller. The alternating chapters were a good touch to a brilliant take on a thriller.
In terms of character development, this was steeped in well written characters who had a part to play in what is a thrilling crime novel which explores lies, deceit, family loyalty and justice.
This is the first book I have read from this author and it didn’t disappoint. I loved the style of writing and it truly did feel like a true crime documentary. At first it was a little slow but this was to build the picture of the disappearance of Katy and the relationship between mother and daughter. The second half of the book was all guns blazing and revealed a truly tragic yet brilliant plot.
A slowish start but sometimes needed when building a picture, story etc so not always a bad thing….however further in and this book turned into a riveting and exciting read that was hard to put down until finished, such good writing built and built the book,a very good read
Ten years ago, Katy left her desk and was never seen again. Her mother refused to give up hope and was convinced Katy was still alive. As a new documentary is released looking into Katy’s disappearance, it opens old wounds, but could it also release some secrets of the past? This book was slightly slow paced at first but once the plot started to evolve the pace picked up. I would rate it 3.5 stars. Thank you to NetGalley, Harper Collins UK, One More Chapter and the author for the chance to review.
Ten years ago, Grace Harpers daughter, Katy, disappeared. After so long it’s no longer an active case and with nobody looking for her Grace turns to the internet and its chat rooms from some people who are interested in helping to find Katy.
Over the years Grace had been approached to do true crime shows, but this time when she’s approached, she likes what they’re trying to get across and after so long feels it might help to reawaken people’s memories and find some new leads. But when it airs, interviews with the main suspects don’t portray Katy in a good way and Grace is angry. As more things are revealed on the show she realises she might not have known her daughter as well as she thought, or what she’d gotten herself involved in.
I received this through @netgalley and having previously read this authors work I had a feeling it would be good and I was so right.
From the very beginning I was pulled into Katy’s disappearance and with so many suspects I found it difficult to pinpoint anyone. I did however notice some wording that drew my attention to a certain person and I was proved right in their having something to do with Katy’s disappearance. There was a brilliant twist, although I have to admit it had crossed my mind earlier on, but I put that down to reading so many books of this genre that my mind is constantly second guessing everything.
In all a fantastic, gripping read that I highly recommend.
In many ways, True Crime is written just like a true crime documentary book. The mother of the missing girl/woman Katy narrates the story around her disappearance and her experiences. The Mum, Grace, becomes involved with a documentary maker surrounding her disappearance. Mum has always felt there was more to her disappearance than meets the eye, and in the novel we find Katy’s Mum researching and getting involved in the investigation to solved her daughter’s case.
I truly wasn’t sure what to expect when I started this book. I’ve read Georgina Lees books before and really enjoyed them, and this was no exception. Written in a different style from her others it really hits the mark and leaves you wanting more the second you put it down. Great book.
Thank you for letting me read this book.
It was slow to get going and grip me. However as the story went in the more into the story i got
Ten years ago, college student and interning journalist Katy went missing. The unsolved case is only kept alive by her mother Grace. When a True Crime writer and documentary creator comes to town Grace become hopeful.
Via the point of view of Grace we delve deeper and deeper into the mystery as Katy's last days before her disappearance are interspersed. A gripping thriller!

Ten years ago Katy disappeared. She left her workplace late at night and never came home. There were theories. The boyfriend. A clingy professor or maybe a colleague but the police could never find her. Her mother, Grace, still holds hope she will come home, so when she is approached to be involved in a new documentary that may prompt people come forward with new evidence, she agrees. Except there is so much about Katy she never knew and as she comes closer to the truth, it is clear people want to keep the past hidden.
This was another intriguing novel with a host of suspicious characters, filled with secrets and a darker side. The author really captured the emotions of Grace and it was a page turner! Thanks so much to NetGalley and HarperCollins UK for this gifted review copy.
A missing girl. An angry mother. A true-crime documentary. Ten years ago, Katy, a promising young journalist, left her desk and was never seen again. Someone knows what happened to her. The controlling boyfriend? The inappropriate professor? The clingy colleague? When Katy went missing, it wasn't just her devastated mother, Grace, whose life was ruined. Now, a new documentary delving into the missing person case threatens to open old wounds. As Grace gets closer to the truth, she discovers just how far people are willing to go to keep the past hidden.
The case of missing Katy has never been solved. Now, a true-crime documentary wants to look into Katy's disappearance and re-interview all the suspects. The story is told from Grace, Katy's mother's point of view. Each character had a motive for getting rid of Katy, but who were they? Grace is determined to uncover Katy's fate. Overall, I did enjoy this book. It's filled with twists, action=packed, and a quick and easy book to read. I did guess correctly who the bad guy was, but that took nothing away from my enjoyment.
I would like to thank #NetGalley #HarperCollinsUK #OneMoreChapter and the author #GeorginaLees for my ARC of #TrueCrime in exchange for an honest review.
This was a bit slow in the first half. After that 50 percent mark though things picked up ANF it was s riveting race to the end. A pretty good book that had all the feels of s true crime documentary.

I thought this was going to be a slow burn, so I was surprised by how fast-paced this story was. Katy was a tenacious young journalist who vanished ten years ago. Her mother Grace has exhausted all leads when she's approached by a documentary filmmaker. At first it seems as if it's the same old suspects--the controlling boyfriend, the professor who was rumored to be inappropriate with students, and the colleague who was a little too interested in Katy. But when new evidence points in a different direction, it turns this whole story upside down.
As a true crime junkie, this book hit on two important things for me. One, we're never supposed to lose sight of the victim, but true crime documentaries often exploit the victim. And two, it doesn't matter how much time has passed, that little thing you kept telling yourself was nothing could be the thing that solves a case and brings closure to a family. Many thanks to NetGalley and Harper Collins UK for this early read. This title will publish January 30, 2024.
This book was very exciting and intriguing, especially as I've loved all the other books I've read by Georgina Lee's, she's so great at getting me hooked on a story.
Thanks NetGalley for the ARC of True Crime by Georgina Lees
I enjoyed this story, the characters and the plot, I felt it really picked up about the halfway mark, prior to that it was a little draggy, like something more needed to happen or the characters needed to be a little more interesting. But the last half I flew through and couldn't wait to see how the story would end
Grace Harper's daughter Katy, went missing 10 yrs ago. She left work one night and was never seen again. And now Grace has agreed to a TV series in the hopes that someone will finally come forward with information. Grace can't let go and she knows that someone must know something.
This is the first novel I've read by Georgina Lees and will definitely read more
True Crime by Georgina Lees has an interesting premise. The story reads like a fiction mystery/crime drama. I love watching true crime shows, and this book feels like an episode of a great show. The narration and way the story was presented were unique and held my interest.
The story is about Grace, whose daughter, Katy, vanished. Ten years ago, Katy, a promising young journalist, left her desk and was never seen again. When Katy went missing, it wasn’t just her devastated mother, Grace, whose life was ruined. Now, a new documentary delving into the missing person case threatens to open old wounds. As Grace gets closer to the truth, she discovers just how far people are willing to go to keep the past hidden.
There were lots of good twists I did not see coming or even figure out. How the events unfolded was attention-grabbing, and there was a sad outcome for the mother.
I would recommend this book.

Even though books about true crime podcasts are everywhere, I never seem to tire of them! I don’t listen to podcasts, but I love reading stories that feature them, as it adds another element to the classic whodunit story. This book is one of the more realistic ones, as it showcases how everything doesn’t always tie up nicely with a happy ending. Because I’m sure there will be mixed reviews on how this story concludes.
Up until a certain point, I was racing through the story. Katy is the missing young woman whose mother, Grace, has been searching for her for a decade, never wanting to believe the worst. Like, literally, never wanting to believe the worst – she refuses to hear a word against Katy. Which, after this long, and to get to the truth, doesn’t seem too likely. She needs to accept that Katy wasn’t all hearts and rainbows and a perfect angel. Not according to what others close to her are saying, anyway.
Seasoned readers will spot the bad guy a mile away, but it takes much longer for the author to get Grace there. Without giving anything away, there’s a point in the story where it all got a bit sour for me. Grace wasn’t the only one affected by Katy’s disappearance, but she doesn’t like to share her grief with anyone. And when you get to the truth about what happened, it seems too unlikely that events would have transpired that way. The story is definitely more about the journey of getting to the heart of the mystery than the crime itself.
But it’s a breezy read and a real page-turner and sometimes that’s all you need!
