This is an ace read. So many twists. Loved it. Thought it would be a typical easy read story. No way. Lots of twists . Family secrets. A brooding artist . Forgiveness. . Love never dies, There are so many delicate subjects it covers. The book shop sounds fab. You just have to read it and a sad happy ending.

The Bookshop by the Lock by Julie Shackman is a cozy romantic novel about love, growth, and family.
The novel follows the protagonist Lexie on her mission to get an otherwise doomed bookstore up and running.
While the reader is led to believe that the main plot of the novel is the saving of the bookstore, the book provides little to no explanation as to how the bookstore is doing or how it got turned around. There is a brief introduction at the beginning of the novel, but after about the 20% mark, the saving of the bookstore fades into the background.

Usually, I am all for books about books, because what book lover is not, and while this one is set in a bookstore and Lexie is initially working as a book editor, I never felt like the novel managed to make me connect with the "bookish" aspect of it.

I did enjoy the novel, no doubt, but a lot of stuff was happening while simultaneously nothing was happening at all. Every interruption between the two love interests happened in the exact same way every time and I lost count of the number of times it happened. There also were a lot of conflicts that did not seem to make much sense to the actual storyline and almost every single one of those conflicts was not resolved. The romance in the novel is definitely a slow burn, however, it is more slow than burn.

This novel remedied itself by being set in a charming small town, primarily in a bookstore, and the fact that the main love interest is a dark-haired man who seems rough at first glance but is a sweetheart.
I had a fun time reading the novel, even considering a few headshakes and laughs of disbelief.

If you are looking for an entertaining and lighthearted romance read with a small-town setting, this is for you.

THis was such a lovely story. Great characters like Lexie and Tobias. It was lovely to read how they came together over time after a rocky beginning,. I enjoyed this great story very much. Happiness and some sadness in equal measure - lovely ending.

Thank you to Netgalley, the publisher and the author Julie Shackman for providing me an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review. The Bookshop By The Loch written by Julie Shackman is a second chance romance about new adventures. The main character Lexie ends up not getting the new promotion she wanted at her job and decides to leave the company she worked for. She decides to go back to her hometown that she grew up in surrounding herself with family and friends (old and new). I cant say a lot about the book without giving away everything away. This novel is 4 star read that was warm and heartfelt with characters who are funny, delightful along with enjoyable.

Lexie leaves Glasgow for her small home town of Bracken Way after being unceremoniously passed over for a promotion at the publishing house she works for. After discovering her favourite local bookstore will be closing, she signs on to bring the shop into the 21st century. Her plans are complicated by the arrival of the owner’s nephew, Tobias.

This one took me a little while to get into, but I found myself immersed about a third of the way through. I’m really glad I persisted. I love stories with a book store setting, and this book was much more than a simple bookstore romance.

I loved the warmth of all the relationships in this story, and the multiple threads the author wove together in a reflection on loss, love and adjustment. While I enjoyed all the characters I think Celeste was my favourite!

The twists and turns, particularly in the latter half of the story kept me well engaged and I finished the book in a single sitting!

Thank you One More Chapter and NetGalley for an advanced reader copy of this book.

The Bookshop by the Loch was a delightful romance about second chances and new adventures. Author Julie Shackman creates characters who are enjoyable and full of quirks. Lexie surrounds herself with family, old friends, and new friends. The pilot flows well, with just enough tension and enough problems to solve to keep readers engaged. Plus, much of the plot unfolds in a bookstore, which is my favorite place to visit.

When Lexie, loses an important promotion, she finds the strength to start over. Her father must also start over, as does Lexie's friend. As a result, this layering of family and friends and second chances is a big part of the success of this novel and a big reason why I enjoyed reading The Bookshop by the Loch. A big thank you to the author, to HarperColliins UK, and to NetGalley for providing this ARC to review. My comments reflect the ease of reading and enjoyment that I found in reading The Bookshop by the Loch.

Loved this novel...a lovely combination of the past and the present coming together resulting a really heartwarming tale.
Lexie gets passed over for a promotion and returns to her childhood home. She embarks on a change of direction and ends up managing the local bookshop. Enter Tobias who she takes a dislike to...but family secrets and the past has a habit of changing things...a really lovely read. Highly recommend
