An enemies-to-lovers AND epistolary romance?!? Sign me up! HATE MAIL by Donna Marchetti was so fun and highly engrossing -- one of the best romances I've read this year for sure!
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for giving me the opportunity to be able to read and review this book!
4/5
Very simple rom com. A cute read. The banter back and forth between the two characters were fun. But a simple read.
Simple, cute but honestly nothing special. The banter between Noah and Lucas in their letters was so much fun to read though! I could've done without the spice. And this comes from a girl who LOVES spice in her books. It just felt a bit awkward and forced. I think the book would've been better without it.
Great read!
I loved this new perspective of letter writing!
Naomi and Luca have been swapping insulting letters since fifth grade, I personally would have given up before now, and continue into adulthood eagerly awaiting each other’s responses, becoming friends amid the insults.
I adored both characters and finding out why they wrote the insults they did and how they try to locate one another with often hilarious and entertaining results.
Overall an insightful and emotionally satisfying outcome.
I thought this was very good and I will have to add this to the shop shelves. Thank you for the chance for us to review.
Easy beach type read. The twist was pretty obvious but typical for a rom-com.
Thanks to NetGalley for the read.
An absolutely brilliant SMASH of a book, I couldn’t put this down! Cleverly plotted and brilliantly written, this will be a huge hit with fans of a witty, spicy tale of romance. Can’t recommend enough.
This book was massively frustrating for me. From the get go, the ‘twist’ that Jake was in fact Luca was glaringly obvious. I then felt really impatient for the twist to be revealed as the book immediately began to drag when I knew what was coming. I was left even more frustrated when it’s revealed that the mistaken identify trope was intentional on Luca’s part… ugh. Miscommunication everywhere and I just wasn’t getting on with this.
I did love Naomi and Anna’s friendship though - I loved their adventures.
Sadly not for me!
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for granting me free access to the advanced digital copy of this book.
A simple rom-com, I would call this a quick, fast paced read. A good palate cleanser from reading heavy fantasy novels, I like romance novels like this one! It was enjoyable but nothing that made me go “wow”.
This was such a fun, quick and easy read. I really enjoyed it and love the writing style. The plot was fun and i really adored the characters. 3.5
Thank you to One More Chapter, Harper Collins UK and NetGalley for an advanced digital copy in return for an honest review.
I got through this book in one sitting because it was so easy to read! I love a dual POV and really enjoyed reading from both Luca's and Naomi's perspectives. I thought the book was fun, a little spicy and overall feel good. I didn't really like the best friend/sidekick character, I would not tolerate her irl but I could overlook it for the rest of the book. I'd definitely recommend for a cute romance read!
Thank you Netgalley and Publishers
I loved Hate Mail, I thought it was written really well and I loved the direction of the storyline. These rom coms are so easy to read and get swept away in. All the characters are likeable which makes the whole novel fun to read.
I really liked the way this novel was written, it told the story in what felt like an easy laid-back way, as a reader you casually read whilst enjoying.
Naomi and Luca were such fun characters. I Absolutely loved it and how it covered so many years of their story from being pen pals in the fifth grade to eventually meeting in person after a long time without any letters.
Tropes:
Childhood Pen Pals
Enemies to Lovers
Dual POV
The story was super cute, fun, funny, lighthearted, a little spicy and it showcased a lot of growth for both characters.
3.5 stars rounded up!
I adored this book, it was the perfect cute romance that I never knew I needed. I loved our main characters and unlike so many romances, this one kept me guessing for so long! Incredibly written and the pacing is on point.
Highly recommended!
I’m rounding this one up because I truly wanted to keep reading. I stayed up late doing so but… The tone was quite weird at times?
Like these people wrote the meanest things to each other and they STILL managed to fall in love??
Also the rationale being one situation was really flimsy.
So why am I ratings this book four stars? Mainly because the actual romance was pretty SOLID.
I was truly rooting for these characters. Plus I’m a sucker for letters in books lol.
Good for enemies to lovers readers who can trust the author to stick the landing.
3.5 stars
I enjoyed this one and really liked the idea of the whole pen pal (or should I say penemy) side of things. I loved the letters and I loved seeing how Naomi and Luca interacted with each other over the years, also we get dual povs so thats always an added plus!
I actually really enjoyed Naomi and Anne going on a hunt to try and locate him, getting to learn more about Luca as we go. This was a super quick and fun read but I just wish that certain plot points hadn't happened. I did guess the big plot point quite early on and I feel like that definitely affected the way I thought and felt throughout.
I did enjoy Donna Marchetti's writing so I'll most likely be picking up any of her future books!
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Hate Mail follows Naomi and Luca, two individuals tied together when their respective teachers assign them as penpals. Over the course of almost 15 years, the two continue to write to each other until one day the letters stop and Naomi is left wondering if Luca and their budding relationship meant nothing to him. However, two years later Naomi is suddenly pulled back into their exchange when she gets a letter in the mail and is forced to decide if she finally wants to pursue Luca.
This was a delightfully lighthearted romcom full of fun and a dash of steam, featuring frenemies to lovers, he falls first, and dual POV! The penpal premise is so unique in that Naomi and Luca send each other hate mail, they had such a fun banter in their letters and it was so cute to read about them slowly falling for each other while they grew into themselves. The story unfolded between two POVs and timelines; it gave so much insight into the characters and the history of their relationship. This is a cute and sweet debut romance, and while I do think the characters and execution could use some work, I am very excited to read more from Donna Marchetti in the future.
Don't get me wrong... I'm not saying this book is wrong.
It is ... just correct.
It doesn't move me at all. I felt bored, I find it naive and I just don't see anything particular worth my attention.
So, definitely not my cup of tea
