I listened to almost a third of the audiobook but did not finish. There are several "main" characters, none of whom I liked, and it was difficult to keep all the side characters straight. That may be a downside of listening instead of reading, but the story also included a lot of foul language and gory violence. To be fair, there is a clear warning at the beginning of the book that that things are in the book, so I wasn't surprised. It just wasn't a pleasant read. I also felt that there wasn't enough background of the world or satisfactory backstories for the characters for me to be interested.
Thank you to Dreamscape Media, NetGalley, and the author for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.
The Unseen follows the stories of two assassins, two little girls, and one bored price. Elwyn just wants to disappear into “normal” life and seems to think she’s been successful… unfortunately not so much. Things just get more interesting when she becomes determined to save a lost little girl, who may not be exactly what she seems. All the while, a world away another little girl is hiding from her mother’s goblin friends while playing with her fae bestie, while wondering how a mortal like her got so lucky as to live here… Lots of mischief, adventure, and magic in this read!
While the audio narrator attempted to differentiate voice’s between characters and world, with the slow build at the start I struggled a bit to wrap my mind around the parallel and tangential storylines. It all came together in the end though.
I was honestly surprised by how much I enjoyed The Unseen by Lilla Glass. The first thing that stood out to me was the amazing world building. With the author's descriptive prose I could really immerse myself in the world. The magic system was interesting and unique. The characters were all really well written. I loved the large ensemble of characters and how different they all were. Each one was so complex and I loved they're motivations for teaming up to meet their own goals. The plot was fast paced and held my attention from beginning to end. Unfortunately most of the plot twists were all fairly easy to see coming. But I highly recommend this for fans of a fast paced fantasy stories.

I have read so many stories about fae, sometimes it gets kind of old, but this felt new and interesting. I truly enjoyed this, the found family aspect and comradery this little group of misfits finds together is heartwarming. There were two very small things that I had an issue with (and I use the word issue very lightly, these things don't take away from the greatness of the book). The Unseen is told from several POVs. We get the perspective of our 5 main characters, but then also get the perspectives of several minor characters. I can understand that it was done to give a full picture of what was happening elsewhere in the book (that later on effect the main characters), but it did make it confusing for me as a reader at times. This is also labeled as being 'romance' and 'sci-fi/fantasy', and while I do think there is a foreshadowing of romance to come in future books, there was no real romance in this one. That's honestly one of the main reasons I wanted to read this. A romance/fantasy combination book is my JAM. I love reading fantasy but also feel like I need romance to drive my interest in a story a lot of the time. THAT BEING SAID, I devoured this. The story is so good but also brutal, and the characters are interesting and dynamic. And the narrator of this audiobook was AMAZING. Her ability to go between so many characters (as I mentioned earlier there are A LOT of POVs and characters) and have a distinguishable voice for each made this book even more enjoyable. Thank you to NetGalley for this audiobook ARC in exchange for an honest review!
DNF at 10%. This book starts out by jumping from POV to POV. It's not terrible, but in the main person's POV, we have a rhyming creature that is annoying the crap out of me.
The narrator has a pleasant voice, but doesn't vary the tone of her voice enough to distinguish each character from each other. So, with the rhyming and the difficulty of knowing who is saying what, this isn't worth continuing.
I've been trying how to put into words how this book made me feel. The best way is to say lost and sad because I didnt want it to end. The narrator was amazing. The words were perfectly written and I felt as though I was right there beside them on their journey. I love the narrators voice changes. I cannot wait to find out what happens next Friday this band of misfits.
The Unseen is a multi-perspective fantasy set in a split faerie universe. There is a high focus on found family and a small hint at a potential romance. I was entertained for the entire listen, The audiobook was well done, with a great narrator. Outside of the occasional cuss word and vocation disturbing content, the story felt very at home with YA fantasy.

Going into this book, it instantly has a very cozy and familiar feel to it. The beginning is a slow start with some world building and introducing the characters, but after that the tempo is kept very engaging. The characters are well written, and likeable despite some having questionable careers.
The world is familiar with fae sorted into seelie and unseelie, but Glass has still managed to create a unique and vivid world. The descriptions of both the characters and the surroundings paint a nice picture. The writing in general is great, and the book sometimes reminded me of Neil Gaimans writing. Overall I really enjoyed the book as it was a sweet well written story.
Audiobook thoughts: It took me some getting used to the narrator as she is kinda low tempo, and the sing-song reciting of the rhymes felt a bit out of place for me. She is also doing accents to differentiate the different characters which felt weird to me, but at the same time it is a helpful way to show who's talking. Very subjective opinions.
Although I liked this book, I found it a little weak. There were so many characters, and the POV changes between them happened so quickly and often that I frequently had trouble keeping up with who was who and what was happening. It took me quite a while -- at least an hour or longer into the book -- to even figure out who all the different characters were and remember what had happened with them the last time they appeared in the book.
I'm not sure if this was something that was only a problem in audio format or not. It's possible that reading the book in physical form would make it easier to follow the various characters and keep them straight. However, I'm not certain that's the case.
This wasn't a massive, world-building novel like Lord of the Rings or the Game of Thrones series. It seemed to have far too many characters to keep track of for such a relatively small and contained book.
The audio was clear, but the narrator only did a fair job with the voices. At times, certain characters sounded too much like other characters to distinguish who exactly was talking. (This was another factor that made it hard to keep track of all the characters and their story arcs.)
Despite this book ending on a cliffhanger, I didn't get invest enough in it or the characters to follow up with the sequel.

Told in multiple POVs, The Unseen is a story of a wayward group that must work together if they want to achieve their individual goals. We have a thief, an assassin, a prince, and a monstrous little girl that - alone - are a little lost, but together, just may be able to create an ending that will appease them all. Through trial and error, they will form their own found family and, with any luck, save multiple worlds.
I really enjoyed this fast paced adventure story! It is captivating from the start and I loved how the Faerie characters and humans overlapped. If you are looking for a quick fantasy read with a sometimes good, sometimes bad bunch, then this is the book for you!
Read this book if you like:
- Celtic inspired faeries
- medieval like setting
- stand out characters
- rhyming side kicks
The Unseen will be released October 3rd and if it's not already on your tbr, it should be!

This was so fun!
We follow four main characters journeys: Elwyn, Brannon, Aedyn and Tawny. This story jumps right into the action which I ALWAYS appreciate! I find that with a lot of fantasy, there is so much world building at the beginning and then the action, but that wasn’t the case here. The world building throughout the book was perfect along with the storytelling. The character development throughout the story was great and I was both surprised and enjoying their individual POVs and each characters growth (and banter)! Thank you NetGalley for this ACR I can’t wait to continue the story!
The Unseen by Lilla Glass is a fantasy novel, primarily about Elwyn, a former thief on the run from her past life, who is accompanied by a small fae, Luatha. We also see point of views from multiple other characters, including the assassin sent to return her to her criminal syndicate, a young girl with a mysterious gift, a fae prince bored of life in Faerie, his father, and a human girl living in Unseelie Wilds, among others.
There was a lot going on in this story, in a good way. Though there were ultimately world altering consequences, the novel focused on the stories that mattered to the characters, and I loved the character arcs we got out of that. My only nitpick is that the ending is so abrupt after all the reader goes through with the character. I understand there’s a sequel, and perhaps more, but the abrupt ending gave me whiplash.
The world itself was interesting and easy to follow. There was the human world and the Faerie Realms, and different places within each of those that we got to experience. The author made them all feel so different and so real. I also thought the author brought in the worldbuilding in a way that weren’t too awkward, for example the game that Elwyn and Aedyn play, and the judicial council where some things are explained to one of the characters, though really for the reader.
I listened to the audiobook and the narrator, Patricia Santomasso, did a bang up job with all the voices and accents. She really pulled me along throughout the story and added so much to my experience.
Favorite quote: “Those who truly love themselves need not say it so loudly or so often.”
Thank you to NetGalley, the author, and publisher for allowing me to listen to this book as an ARC to review.
So. Much. Fun!!! This book was a fast-paced fantasy with great world-building and an excellent cast of characters. Amazing narration.
Elwyn is remarkably unremarkable, and unfortunately, the story feels the same way. I’m glad I was listening to the audiobook instead of reading a physical copy because I’m not sure if I would have continued otherwise. I wasn’t a fan of the sing-song riddles, and the different POVs felt a bit choppy. Ultimately, as I was continuing with this book, I felt a bit apathetic towards the characters, so it was difficult to be invested in where this story would go next.
Quick Summary: An exciting new sci-fi/fantasy adventure
My Review: The Unseen is book 1 in The Reel of Rhysia series. It's dark, intriguing, and full of curiosities.
About the Book: Right out of the gate, this book immediately sucks you in. It begins in such an unassuming way that it is not even obvious how far along you've been pulled until you're deeply entrenched. The setting, the characters, the seen unseen, the suspense - it's all there! Some unexpected twists and turns totally have the power to astonish.
My Final Say: This book is just the beginning of something very special, I'm more than certain. I highly recommend it. Readers who are looking for a peculiar fantasy fiction read, this is the one. Let's go!

Sincere appreciation is extended to the author, to the publisher (Dreamscape Media, Dreamscape Lore), and to NetGalley. Thank you for granting access to this title. The words I have voluntarily shared are my own.
This was a good YA fantasy. I wish there had been more romance to hold my attention but the found family aspect helped.
I thought the characters were well established by the end and the world building was good. I do like morally grey characters that you can root for.
The ending was a little jarring for me, but I'm guessing that was the point because it was left on a bit of a cliffhanger.
Not sure I'm that excited to read book two. Maybe if the romance develops a lot more.
I received this audiobook as a ARC via NetGalley.
Wow! I am not sure what I was expecting but it definitely wasn't all of this! Was a wonderfully woven story full of mystery, wonder, courage and loss.
The audiobook narrator Patricia Santomasso was fantastic. So many accents and tones. It really brought the story to life. Grab this once you can and get easy for a delight! Lilla Glass has developed full characters that you will quickly love and a world I can't wait to be in again.

I absolutely loved this book! I went in with very little expectation and came out happily impressed! This was so good, dark, full of adventure, and everything you want from a dark fantasy book.
Definitely go in prepped, it’s dark and has trigger warnings. However the author has an ability to write this with intention and furthers the plot rather than use it as a crutch.
I loved the take of fae, found family, enemies, and what it means to intertwine multiple points of view. I listened to this so fast, I already want the next book!
Thank you NetGallery for this preview, as always I appreciate the opportunity and can’t wait for the next book in this series!
📚 BOOK REVIEW 📚.
THE UNSEEN - LILLA GLASS
Thank you #netgalley and #dreamscape for a free audio copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I absolutely loved this.
It was action packed, had a complex and immersive magical system and a group of well- developed, three dimensional, characters.
The writing style is fluid and well paced. The multi- character narrative works well because all of them are distinctive. The plot is rich and busy, while the world is perfect for an escape from reality.
I thought the narrator - Patricia santomasso - did a fantastic job.
I cannot wait for the second book in the series to be released next year. I really hope more readers find their way to this one! If you need more convincing then I would say that if you are fans of #leighbardugo or #rachelgillig
Or #twincrowns then you would love The Unseen.
I received an advanced audiobook version of this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
In this book, we are following several points of view, an aspect that can either be done well or poorly. Lilla Glass writes this well where it is easy to keep track of whom you are following during each chapter.
The book does have a darker theme to it and does start off with a list of TWs. Amongst the list are child abuse and violence.
There are five primary points of view consisting of Elwyn, Brannon, Aedyn, and Lydia. They are a group of unlikely friends. It is packed with action and a journey of self-discovery as we create this found family.
The Unseen is the first book in this series. I can't wait to continue reading once the next book is out.
