I really enjoyed this book. I enjoy the books that James Patterson writes. There is never a dull moment in them. I would say that this is the best he's written for 2024, but there may be others that will probably top this one. It is the number one book so far. I liked this book, the ending was different than what I expected. It was better. I'm grateful that netgalley and the publishers let me read this in exchange for an honest review.
So this is the first book I’ve read by James Patterson. I enjoyed it very much. I thought it was going to be an action type book, it does have some, but it mostly focuses on characters, motivation, investigation and lots of twists. I found it to be interesting and hard to put down. The characters are spectacularly written, human, individual, complex. I liked all of them. I was sad to learn who the killer is. #Crosshairs #NetGalley
Another quick read and twisting case in the latest Michael Bennett series. Thanks for the advanced copy NetGalley. #NetGalley #LongshotKiller
Thanks to Net Galley and Little, Brown and Company for this ARC of Crosshairs by James Patterson and James O. Born due to be released February 12, 2024.
This is number sixteen in the Michael Bennett series – I have read all of them so was very excited to get this one!
A sniper called “The Longshot Killer” is loose in New York City with nothing to link the victims. Detective Michael Bennett has a new partner, Rob Trilling, to help him solve the murders.
Will he be a help, a hindrance, or a suspect?
I loved this book – it’s been some time since I read the last Michael Bennett, but it only took a few pages to get reacquainted with the character and his family.
Crosshairs kept me interested during the entire book until the conclusion with the killer finally arrested. It was a fast-paced read, and I absolutely love the short chapters that James Patterson usually has in his books.
I can’t wait until book number seventeen in this series!
Thank you to NetGalley, James Patterson, James O. Born, and Little Brown and Company for allowing me to review this ARC!
Another great Michael Bennett thriller!
Michael Bennett is on the case investigating a sniper that seems to be killing people with no clear motive. One of Bennett's supervisors has him utilize a newer cop with military sniper experience to find out how the shootings are happening. When they discover that the sniper seems to be targeting people that have criminal pasts Michael Bennett starts to wonder about his new partner. Could his past military experience be helping him as a vigilante sniper? As new information and leads come around things may not be what they seem.
I always have enjoyed James Patterson novels and this one was fantastic too! I love that the books are easy to read, shorter chapters, with good quality, well thought out characters and situations. No matter how hard I tried, I still couldn't guess the ending prior to the killer being revealed. I would highly recommend to anyone who likes police mystery/thrillers!

In this story Detective Michael Bennett is dealing with a killer dubbed 'The Longshot Killer'
Michael has a new partner in this case Rob Trilling who is young and trained in the military and is as expert in sniper shooting.
Michael has develops a profile of the killer - Great with a gun - Probably ex-military - .Hmmm
Rob Trilling is a bit of a mystery – twice he excused himself from work as he has an appointment but gives no information if the appointment is work related or personal.
Mary Catherine tells Michael that he needs to invite Trolling over for dinner as dinner is the Irish answer to every problem, - As it tends to solve every problem, No one can be upset over a good brisket!
Sure enough dinner is a big success.
I have read ALL the novels in the Michael Bennett series. Yep! I have had a “Book Crush” on loveable, a bit rough but certainly great guy Michael.
I was a bit worried that Michael I knew (and loved) had changed and not in a good way in #12. His language was much too nasty for me. I get that sometimes nasty language fits the situation but I always held Michael in a higher place.
Michael is one of my favorite JP characters. I especially enjoy the stories that include his family of 10 adopted children, his now wife Mary Catherine, and Grand Father Monsieur Seamus Bennett.
This story did not disappoint. I have to admit I was amazed how much I enjoyed it - Patterson and Born are a clever team!
Although we now know Rob Trilling secrets- I hope he and Michael work together again!!
Want to thank NetGalley and Little Brown and Company for this early uncorrected proof.
Publishing Release Date scheduled for February 12, 2024.
I always look forward to the next installment of the Michael Bennett series and as usual, this book does not disappoint! Patterson and Born bring the reader on a roller coaster ride and just when you think you know who the real suspect is, they turn the story around on a dime. I also enjoy the back story about the Bennett family! Thanks for advanced copy.
