This was a fun, cute little read. I read this very quickly, as we race through a 30 day sham marriage with some quirky small town events along the way.
So glad Entangled and NetGalley sent me this eARC 🥰
I really enjoyed this book! There was nothing overly surprising or dramatic but that's ok. It was like watching a Hallmark movie in your most comfortable clothes with a mug of tea. I knew everything would work out in the end, that there would be hijinks and challenges along the way, that something would happen that seemed unsurmountable but would be taken care of by the end of the book. The idea that they're not allowed to get an annulment because the judge wants to make them give the marriage a chance is a little hard to believe so it is probably necessary to suspend logic for a moment. After that though, it's fun to see the characters grow and change because of their interactions with each other. There is basically zero spice in this book, so if that's something you're looking for, you'll be disappointed. It's alluded to but just fades to black before anything actually happens. My only complaint is how quickly and efficiently everything is sorted out in the end. It just felt too easy and didn't match all the concerns throughout the book about how everything could go wrong. Other than that, it was an enjoyable and comfy read!
Thank you so much to Entangled and NetGalley for the EArc of this book!
Rating: 4.5/5
I received an eARC for my honest opinion.
Would you marry someone who you know that you will just hate being married too? What if I told you that you would be doing it for your father, so you could save his company.
I loved this heartwarming romcom. All this started with a few, okay a lot of shots in a bar and then next thing you know is your married. What to do next? The banter between the characters, the learning process and getting used to having to share your space with someone was done so well. I loved the grumpy meets sunshine, the small town, fake relationship and even the single parent trope was not a big deal for me because the way the author wrote this book was the main focus, but it was still an important one.
The characters were relatable, but I didn’t connect that well with Annie like I would have liked too. I can relate to how she handled the situation with the accidental marriage to Ian, learning to cook, shopping wisely. No, she is not a spender at all, but I can relate to her shopping at Walmart for clothes that would be better for her to wear in a small town, rather than her suits/nice clothes. For me it’s the opposite. I have a hard time shopping for business women clothing (so expensive) rather than for casual. I liked the fact that she was calm for the most part and knew how not to judge others but to let them show you their true colors. I liked that she was not judgmental about Maggie, Ian’s daughter, but instead she took to her right-away, and it wasn’t really forced but you can see the friend blossom between those too.
Ian was really the good guy in a small town, I loved that he was not what Annie was looking for at all but ended up being what she needed. I liked that he was able to understand the situation that they were in, and how he handled it. Later you will find out why the judge, Harry, made them cohabitate for 30, and omg it's such a cute story. Maggie, Ian’s daughter, was so cute, and I loved that she was so cute, and very smart for her age. I loved the banter between all the characters, I laughed several times while reading it and I didn’t mind the closed-door romance. All I would have changed is to have a little more character development from MMC or the MFC.
I have read other books by this author, and I can’t wait to read more. If you want to read a small town rom coms, with closed door romance, and found family you need to pick up this book and read it.
I want to thank Entangled Publishing for the opportunity to review this book.
Thank you to NetGalley and Entangled Publishing for this book.
Normally I love any book published by Entangled and I truly tried to get into this one, but it just didn't too it for me.
The dialog was smiled and the sentences just did not flow correctly. I also, was not fond of the plot.
The main character was engaged, and cheated on her fiance. Why not break it off.
Sadly I can not recommend this book. I give it three stars.
great romance and twist with the couple getting drunk and married. loved that she did all that to save her dad's company and loved the ex-wife and daughter added to the mix. great reversal about cinder Ella.
This book was cute. It is a good, quick read that gave me the warm fuzzies. Plus it is a closed door romance, which would be good for those who are starting out in reading romance.
BOOK REVIEW:
Title: The Cinderella Reversal
Pub Date: Jan 29th 2024.
Publisher: @Entangled Publishing
I loved this book it was such a fun & sweet read and I cant wait to read more by this author!!!
If you’re looking for a really simple, easy romance read, this is your book. Nothing was overly stressful or angsty, just a simple opposites attract romance. I didn’t love the whole cheating aspect, even if she didn’t actually love the other guy. To base a love story off one character cheating on her fiancé is just overall a grimy thing to do. If you can ignore that, the rest of the story is not horrendous.
Thank you to the publisher for the gifted ARC.
I Voluntarily read and reviewed an Advanced copy of this book. All Thoughts and opinions are my own.
This was cute and heartwarming and I could not put it down.
Annabella Mason (aka Annie, Bella) runs away from St. Louis because of a marriage of convenience that would help her father’s business. Ian Jackson basically picks her up in a bar after too many tequila shots. I loved the storyline, and the banter was definitely hilarious at times, but their 30 days together were pretty surface level. Regardless, this was a quick, fun read.
Loved this story! I instantly connected with the characters and love a good grumpy/sunshine trope. I wish there was a bit more development of the relationship towards the end of the book but caught myself giggling and squealing throughout the book! Such a great romance!
I wanted to love this. I really did. But I just liked it. It was entertaining, and I read the whole book, but it had a lot of missed potential. Admittedly, this is a pet peeve so I always notice it, but there was WAY more internal dialogue than actual dialogue/interaction between the main characters. And since it was all internal, the romance is not believable. You (as the reader) don't get to witness the process. You are just told it happens. Where are the late-night talks getting to know each other? Stories being told about their backgrounds, past relationships, and experiences that made them who they are? You don't get that. Just Ian going to work, and Bella/Annie surprising him by cleaning the house.
So it was good, but it could have been great.
Thank you Entangled Publishing and NetGalley for te advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. What a cute pleasant read. Predictable but a real nice way to get there. Rich girl meets average guy, accidently get married while drunk and then....I do not want to give it away...read the novel.
First of all thank you Entangled for the ARC!
This was a really cute, quick story about Bella and lan! Bella comes from a wealthy family in St. Louis and doesn't know much else other than designer clothes and how to be proper.
She commits to a decision to better her families situation that comes with some baggage. She goes on a trip to ease her mind prior and meets lan, the addictive, hot, town grump and they end up having a fun night to say the least! lan and Bella encounter one of my fav theme of forced close proximity and make the most of a difficult situation.
I laughed out loud several times reading this book and thought it was refreshing that this is a closed door romance. I debated on rating it 3.5 just because with some additional smut and a little more character development would have been wrapped but opted for 4/5 to rate the book for what it was- a quick heart felt feel good romance that I couldn't put down.
From the summary, “The Cinderella Reversal” had some romantic tropes I typically love to read: small town, fake relationship, slow burn. The idea of a night founded in a decision made under the influence and them having to live with their consequences initially appealed to the romantic comedy lover in me.
However, while the book was set up in dual POVs, I just couldn’t seem to connect with either of the characters: Annie/Bella and Ian. Each of their respective chapters was told in third person and frankly, felt surface-level and rushed. When certain moments happened in their relationship, I found myself questioning the timing and placement of them “just to have them” in the book as well as their predictability. Their relationship moved so quickly that I feel as if the characters could have been developed more to build reader investment in their relationship.
The book was a quick read and cute as well as the story idea being creative and different! However, the book wasn’t quite for me.
I was provided with this book for an open and honest opinion. All thoughts are my own.
This was a great book. I applaud the author for coming up with this idea. Warning.....some spoilers...
A rich heroine looking to save her dad's business promises to marry a man who's family is only looking to the economic ties her family's last name will buy them in society realizes the promise she has made and flees to another town to get drunk on the realization.
Enter the Hero who meets her at the local bar and proceeds to help her drink the night away. They both end up married to each other before the night is over. Looking to fix everything the morning after they run to the county judge looking for an easy fix only the judge refuses to provide the easy way out. He is determined to provide a learning lesson for both of them. He sentences them to live together for thirty days as a married couple. Mayhem and hijinks ensue.
Read this book I think you will enjoy it as much as I have.
This is a story of an accidental marriage with a rich girl from the city and a small town lawyer. Judge refuses to grant them an annulment unless they do 30 days of cohabitation.
I gave this book 3 stars because I felt like the dialogue was unnatural. As I was reading it, it didn’t feel natural. I read it aloud to my husband and stumbled through some of it. Example- “Look at you, telling me what a Mason should or shouldn’t be. Just like your mother. Well, I suppose you’re right. I’ll leave you to it then. Tell Julia I’m really rooting for her, okay, honey? But I’ve got to go, Peter is pestering me about some invoices.”
I also felt like the story didn’t have any twists or turns. It was a predictable plot line. I felt like the plot was a bit “over done” in the sense that there wasn’t anything different about the accidental storyline. I was hoping for a turn or twist that would give the story some umph.
Annie was a tad bit unbelievable to me in the sense that she grew up with maids her entire life and day 3 of living with Ian, she’s learning how to clean? I don’t think people develop that quickly in the real world. I did think Ian was a very dynamic character, but felt that the grouchy trope was a bit forced. Grouch was used 12 times in the book- instead of having the reader come to their own conclusion about Ian being a grouch naturally through the conversations, plot, etc., it was forced through words.
Their love story developed so quickly. They started having sex immediately, and sleeping in the same bad. There wasn’t any slow burn or tension. I would have loved to see more witty banter.
This was one of my favorite lines in the book, “She’d stick out like cubic zirconia in a platinum setting, and she really needed the judge to see her making an effort.” I love the idea that you’re using a rich person metaphor to explain what she’s thinking. I giggled when I read this!
I think this is a good read for a very young adult reader who enjoys romance. It is very cheesy in some areas, but the book was a page turner. It jumps right into the action, there were no slow chapters.
Tropes:
Grumpy and sunshine
Small town man and city girl
Arranged marriage
Accidental marriage
Single dad
Forced Proximity

Language: R (30+ swears, 1+ "f"); Mature Content: PG13+; Violence: G+
The first couple chapters had enough sexual content to warn me away from reading the rest of it.
The mature content is for alcohol use, mentions of sex, innuendo, and nudity.
4 stars
Quite an interesting story. A Divorced man meets a rich woman in a bar. She's getting drunk as she's entered an engagement purely to help her father's business. He's been very grumpy since his divorce. The two hit it off get very drunk and get married. As Ian is a lawyer he goes to the local judge to get it annulled but the judge insists they live together for a month. Annie is useless in the kitchen but get's on well with Ian's daughter. Annie tries to clean the house but isn't good at it so gets a maid service in. Ian get's annoyed when he thinks she's let them sort out his notes and tax receipts but acutally Annie made the system herself and its far more efficient. Obviously we get a HEA
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
The Cinderella Reversal was an easy to read, fast paced, closed door romance. There were moments that made me giggle. This hit the grumpy sunshine, forced proximity tropes pretty well. I wish there would have been more character development. The book was pretty predictable but it had good banter and dialogue between Annie and Ian and they handled most situations pretty well. The Cinderella reversal was written pretty well, highlighting the rich girl experiencing a simple life.
I received an advance reader copy and am leaving my review voluntarily.
