I really loved this book! I was really entertained by this story. It was the first time I've read a Nora Roberts book, but I'll definitely read more. This one gives us a gothic mansion on the coast of Maine inherited from an unknown uncle who makes the requirement of living in the house for 3 years in order to claim her inheritance. The mansion turns out to be haunted by multiple ghosts, some friendly and helpful, and at least one very malicious, dangerous spirit. There is also a long-time family curse on brides who died under mysterious circumstances.

Sonya, a marketing graphic designer who inherits the house, meets the son of her uncle's lawyer, nicknamed Trey, and they become good friends, which slowly develops into a romantic relationship. I didn't see it coming, though I should have realized because romance is Nora Roberts' specialty. Sonya's best friend, Cleo, is a hoot, a good balance, and support for her. I look forward to reading the next book in this Lost Brides Trilogy as soon as it comes out.

Thank you to Netgalley and to MacMillan Audio from St. Martin's Pressfor giving me the audiobook in exchange for my honest opinion. The narrator, Brittant Pressley, was an excellent voice actor, too.

Thank you #NetGalley for the AR Audio of Inheritance by Nora Roberts.

This was the first time I have listened/read a book by Nora Roberts. I was pleasantly surprised. I will admit I do not read or listen to many books that talk about ghosts. I found that I was a tad bit jumpy over the last week. A lot of people apologized for scaring me....but I know it was due to mysterious ghosts in this book.

I really enjoyed it. The banter, friendships, romance, characters, jokes and so much more. I don't want to spoil anything. I do wish that I could draw or create websites like the Sonya and Cleo. At times I wish I had a ghost that would play fetch with my dogs.

And the book left you on a cliff hanger. Like a serious cliffhanger. I couldn't believe how it ended.

Loved it!

As with all of Nora’s books, I fell in love with the characters along with the setting. Despite the challenges that happen to Nora’s characters, there’s always a feeling of belonging and sisterhood present and that’s one of the biggest reasons I love her books so much. I always find a friend within her characters, friends that I think about and hate to leave when I close the book at the last page. I’ll never tire of that feeling.

In Nora’s newest trilogy, The Lost Bride, she focuses on Sonya, a graphic designer who’s pending marriage has fallen through. At the same time, she finds out that her deceased father had a twin and she’s inherited his Victorian home on the coast of Maine.

Moving to the mansion both to meet the three year stipulation but also to satisfy her curiosity, Sonya finds that the manor has more than it’s share of things that go bump in the night.

Wonderfully gothic and with characters I love, I can’t wait to get to the next book in the trilogy.

Brittany Pressley narrates and what a stunning job she does! She’s a favorite for a reason! Well done and bravo!
My thanks to @MacMillan.Audio for this gifted ALC to review!

Inheritance by Nora Roberts is such an enjoyable book. It's a perfect read for those chilli nights while you sit cozy by the fire. The characters are well rounded and interesting. Also I really like the relationship between the protagonist and her bestie. Inheritance had me hooked from word one, and stayed good until the last page. I can't wait until the next book in the series comes out!

This new Nora Roberts book is full of wonderful characters, as is usual with Ms Roberts' books. The reader cannot help becoming involved in their lives, reading on and on to find out what happens next. This book is about a surprise inheritance of a fabulous house in Maine that comes at just the right time in the life of graphic artist Sonya MacTavish. Not sure she wants to move to Maine, she agrees to a 3-month trial, but it is love at first sight when she sees the house. Never mind that it is haunted by some of the most unique ghosts in modern fiction. I was reading right along looking forward to a happy ending when the ending arrived rather abruptly. I even checked to see if I had downloaded the complete audiobook. Let me just say that I hate cliffhangers, unless the next book is ready to read immediately (which book 2 in this series is not), so I am taking a star off for that. I enjoyed the book immensely and thank Net Galley and the publisher for allowing me to read an early copy, but I really wish Ms Roberts had not left me hanging. The narrator of this audiobook did a wonderful job. She was easy to listen to and believable as the various characters.

Wow! What a wonderful start to a new series by Nora Roberts. I really enjoyed the premise behind this storyline and was sucked in immediately. Not only is the plot intriguing, fun and clever, the characters are easy to connect to. Everything about this book was "chef's kiss" and I'm eagerly awaiting the next one in the series.

I listened to the audiobook and it was perfection. The narration was done well and it all lent itself to the atmospheric feel of the storyline. The whole inheriting a mansion from a relative you didn't know you had was right up my wheelhouse. Then when you add in hauntings and curses, it's perfection.

Thank you to NetGalley for the early copy of this audiobook. I voluntarily chose to listen to and review it and the opinions contained within are my own.

Romance books aren't normally my jam but this one has enough mystery, murder, and intrigue to keep me happy! I love the relationships in this book and can't wait to read more of them. I really want Sonya to solve this mystery and kick Astrid's ghost out of her house! I can't wait for the next book in the series to see what happens to Sonya and Owen in the mirror.

I rated this book with 4 stars out of 5.
I always enjoy Nora Roberts books about witches or some sort of mysterious thing going on in a house or city. This book will not disapoint, It is a good beach read--filled with fun, mystery, and romance. I like the main character and was rooting for her all along. The book begins with the main character having a really bad time at her almost wedding but then things get worse with her ex fiance and she is at a loss of what to do. Then she gets an inheritance from a long lost uncle and can start a new life in a new town. It has lots of intregue and also some funny moments,
I also really like January Lavoy--the narrator! I am looking forward to the next in the series,
If you like Nora Roberts books especially the ones about the witches you will really enjoy this book. I recommend it!

Sometimes the exception proves the rule, and this book is one of those cases. I always say I'm not a fan of Nora Roberts writing as herself, yet I love her writing as J.D. Robb in the In Death series, which seems a bit pithier to me. But something about the description of this book (and okay, yes, the lovely cover) sucked me in and I decided to give it a try. And I really enjoyed it. Part Gothic romance, part haunted house/paranormal novel, this is the story of the unexpected inheritance of a large manor house by a young woman who's in need of a fresh start in her life. It has a Gothic haunted house, interesting characters, friendly spirits (that I wish would take up residence in my house!) and one particularly unfriendly ghost that's made life in the house difficult for generations. The narration of the audiobook by Brittany Pressley is excellent, as her narrations always are.
The one caveat I'd add is that this is the first book in a trilogy, and it ends on a cliffhanger - a big one. While the cliffhanger didn't bother me, it definitely bothers many readers so if that's an issue for you, just be aware.
Thanks to Netgalley and Macmillan Audio for providing a copy for an unbiased review.

Loved Inheritance! Sonya’s story grabbed me from the start, with her ruined engagement, to how she came to inherit the historic mansion on the coast of Maine. It sounded so gorgeous, with its grand library, breathtaking views of the ocean and a widow’s walk! It’d be hard to refuse even with the ghosts that seem to inhabit the place. Sonya finds out there’s a tragic history, the brides in her family have died soon after marrying. A dark presence laid a curse down long ago that needs to be broken.

Nora Roberts weaved a captivating tale complete with characters to love and hate. Parts were spooky with unexplained happenings in the mansion, but Sonya had backup and support with her best friend, Cleo, her mother, and the hunky lawyer, Trey. They all are on board with investigating the past and eliminating any threat to the future.

The story stopped at an interesting part, and I was surprised. At first thought that maybe my copy was cut short, but then figured out it was a to-be-continued/cliffhanger sort of ending. I eagerly await the next installment!

Brittany Pressley, one of my favorite narrators, performed each character with a distinct voice, some with accents, and delivered with emotion that brought the characters to life! I completely recommend the audio version! I listened at my usual 1.5x normal speed.

Over the years, I’ve enjoyed a number of trilogies and quartets by the super-talented Nora Roberts. Based on Inheritance, book one of her new Lost Bride Trilogy, this one is going to be up there with my other favorites. Roberts manages to write stories with supernatural elements that just seem so real/realistic/possible. I don’t know how she does it.

Sonya moves from Boston to a small town in Maine after breaking things off with her cheating fiancé. She has inherited a house from a relative she knew nothing of, and it’s haunted. For real. The extensive family history includes a lot of tragic deaths, all of new brides. Creepy! They even call the house Lost Bride Manor. Most of the ghosts are pretty nice, even helpful. One of them makes up her bed and cleans up after Sonya, which Sonya found off-putting at first and then started to really appreciate! Another one plays songs on Sonya’s iPad with appropriate themes at several points in the story. I *loved* that! There’s even a little boy who teaches her dog to do tricks. Of course, there’s one really malevolent one, and she is pretty scary.

Even though the book is fairly long at 432 pages (or 14 hours of audio), it never felt long. Since this is the start of a trilogy, I didn’t expect things to get all wrapped up neatly at the end, but I was a bit shocked at the major cliffhanger Inheritance ended on. So if you hate cliffhanger endings, you may have to wait for book two. But that would be a shame because Inheritance is a great story.

I bounced between the audiobook and the ebook for this title, which was very convenient. The audiobook was beautifully narrated by Brittany Pressley, who did a wonderful job with all the voices and accents.

Thank you to St. Martin’s Press and NetGalley for the opportunity to read an advance reader copy of this book and to Macmillan Audio and NetGalley for the opportunity to listen to an advance copy of this audiobook. All opinions are my own.

What a great book!
The 1st book in The Lost Bride trilogy that contains historical fiction, historical thriller, contemporary fiction, mystery and fantasy.
Main character Sonya discovers that she has inherited a 200 yr old mansion from a relative she didn't know existed. In order for the mansion to become hers she is required to live in it for a few years. Sonya and the ghosts, what fun!
Wonderful characters throughout, both living and dead.
Although we are left with quite the cliff hangar the story is spellbinding and fun.
Nora Roberts has done it again and the narration by Brittany Presley is superb!
Highly Recommended!

Thank you to NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for an arc of this audiobook.

Nora Roberts latest trilogy is a blend of of centuries old ghost and mystery with modern day romance.
First let me say - as a fan of Roberts -I LOVED hearing her voice in the opening explanation of her latest trilogy. BONUS!!!
The opening takes place in early 1800’s when a bride is murdered by a jealous woman. Dying in her lovers arms the bride promises to never leave him.
Fast forward to present day. Sonya comes home early and finds her fiancé in bed with her cousin. The neighbor confirms that this is NOT the cousins first “visit”. Sonya does the right thing and throws him out of their apartment and cancels the wedding. She quickly packs his belongings to end their co-inhabitants. She walks into work to learn the ex has sabotaged her career. She decides to take a big leap and work freelance.
Shortly after the two major upsets in her life she gets the shocking news that her fathers twin died. Wait - Twin brother? The story unfolds the twins were separated at birth and adopted into different families. Uncle Colin has left her a beautiful mansion with upkeep and maintenance. The hitch - she has to live in the mansion for three years. Three haunting years.

Sonya MacTavish's world was suddenly turned upside down when she caught her soon-to-be husband cheating, leaving her heart shattered. She decided to start afresh by quitting her job and leaving the past behind. Fortunately, she inherited a stunning Victorian house from her uncle soon after, which was the perfect opportunity to start fresh. However, Sonya soon began to notice strange occurrences in the house, which made her wonder if it was haunted. She also questioned why her uncle had left the house to her.

I initially enjoyed the beginning of the story, but as it continued, I found it to be quite average. The plot lacked excitement. It didn't have the impact I was hoping for and some parts became repetitive. Overall, the story had potential however, it fell short of my expectations.

***Thank you to NetGalley, Nora Roberts, and Macmillan Audio for graciously sending me the audiobook to review. As always, all thoughts are my own.***

I jumped at the chance of receiving an advanced copy of Inheritance by Nora Roberts. Reading one of her novels feels like having a story told by a captivating and enchanting old friend. There are parts of this novel that may seem familiar to others she has written and yet this tale remains refreshing and new and that is the real magic of her storytelling.

Sonya MacTavish seems to be living the life of her dreams; wonderful career, wonderful fiancé, wonderful life…and that may just be too many wonderfuls. It all comes crashing down when Sonya finds her fiancé in her bed with her cousin! This part of the story was hilarious and Sonya handles it with spunk and righteous anger. Her best friend Cleo and her mother are both there to help her kick her ex to the curb and it had all the elements of a girl power win. Sonya leaves the graphic design company she worked at and begins a freelance career on her own. As she struggles to make ends meet, a lawyer shows up at her doorstep to enlighten her about an uncle that left her a mysterious manor and fortune in Maine. Ok, this part of the plot did feel a little cliché, but I was already on the Sonya fan train and went with it.

This is where the thriller of the Lost Bride Trilogy really kicks off. Seven brides died before or early in their marriages in the Victorian manor under nefarious circumstances. One bride for every generation, most of which leaving Poole men bereft. Recently discovering her relationship to her uncle Collin Poole, her father’s unknown twin, Sonya moves to the cliffside house to take up residence and inherit her legacy. Upon her initial visit she meets Trey, young lawyer whose firm handles the estate, and a new romance begins. In between the typical and not so typical hauntings, Sonya begins to understand the curse of the brides and seeks a way to remedy it.

What I loved: the relationship between Sonya and Cleo was really fun. The lighthearted hauntings with music and the dogs were adorable. I also enjoyed how the story unraveled with Sonya’s sleep walking into the scenes of the deaths of the brides.

What I didn’t love: Sonya’s relationship with Trey happened far too quickly. I felt like we had just met him and all of a sudden, they were in a full-fledged romantic relationship and each other’s forever emergency contacts. Also, the cliffhanger…but no one likes one of these and this one is a doozy.

I listened to the audio production of Inheritance and this added to the charm of the story. Brittany Pressley does an amazing job bringing depth to the female and male characters with the added bonus of well-done accents. I cannot wait for book two in this trilogy.

I am a fan of Nora Roberts and this book did not disappoint. In fact, it caught my attention from the beginning.

Sonya MacTavis is planning for a wedding that is overwhelming her that is more what her fiancé wants that what she wants. She cancels and appointment with the florist and comes home to find her fiancé and her cousin in bed together. Sonya kicks her finance out and he turns vindictive.

Sonya's friend, Cleo is there for her when things go awry and is a wonderful friend and confidant. Sonya is also very close with her mother, Winter. They support Sonya.

Sonya decides to quit her job, which her fiancé also works at. She goes makes the decision to strike out on her own as a graphic artist.

It turns out that her late father had a twin and when he died, he left her his mansion in Maine with the understanding she must live there for 3 years. The Doyle lawyers work with Sonya to describe and inform her that all the upkeep is set up in a trust they administer. The youngest Doyle is Trey and he and Sonya form a bond.

This book is full of mystery, romance, spirits, paranormal and a curse.

4.5/5

I was originally very excited when i was given the opportunity to receive an Advanced Reader copy for this novel by Nora Roberts. In fact this was the highest profile book i have ever gotten an opportunity to review, Unfortunately that excitement has been greatly hampered by St. Martin Press unwillingness to address the racists and xenophobic remarks made by an employee at Wednesday books. As the parent company of Wednesday St. Martin's press has a responsibility to address this situation. As such I will be submitting this as my review until a time at which action is taken to address this extremely harmful behavior. While I enjoyed my time with this audiobook I do not currently feel comfortable submitting that review or producing any content for St. Martin's Press until they take the time to address this situation.

I have always been a huge Nora Roberts fan, but she kind of lost me years ago with some of her paranormal books. I was sucked in by this sweet, benign looking cover, but it is another paranormal (ghosts) fiction. But since Ms. Roberts writes anything and everything well, it worked for me.

I love that most of the ghosts are friendly, helpful, and even have a sense of humor. I would love a ghostly maid or a playful ghost to keep my dog entertained. Come on down!!! There is, of course, the dark, terrifying witch also

What I wasn't expecting was the big, BIG cliffhanger at the end. Personally, I will probably not remember the characters by the time the next one comes out. That won't keep me from reading it, though!

I went back and forth between the audiobook and the ebook. The narration by Brittany Pressley was fantastic. She did a great job with the different voices, and the narration was a pleasure to listen to.

Thanks to Macmillan Audio and NetGalley for the gifted copy. All thoughts are my own.
