Inheritance by Nora Roberts - 4.5 Stars
Nora Roberts has worked her magic again with another wonderful book with lead heroine who captivates right from the start. Inheritance takes place in a mansion that is truly haunted by not one, but possibly several ghosts. Sonya becomes intrigued with solving the murder of Astrid, a bride from 1806, and quickly finds that she is just as intrigued with Trey. Romance, mystery and intrigue. The perfect start to The Lost Bride Trilogy.
Brittany Pressley does and amazing job narrating this audiobook and I look forward to book two! Thank you Net Galley and Macmillan Audio for providing me with an advanced copy of this audiobook in exchange for my honest review.

Thank you to NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for the early listen! Nora Robert's does it again! Talk about a spine tingling (not chilling) read! Truly enjoyed the setting, the tone and the atmosphere of this story. Love the haunted aspect of the book. The characters helped bring this book to life as did the narrator! Narrator did a fabulous job telling the story and giving each character their own voice. Easy to decipher between characters as she read. This book is perfect for those that like a little haunting in their books. A little spine tingling with a few goose bumps tossed in.
Highly recommend!
A great first installment in the Lost Bride trilogy. This had the classic, plucky Nora heroine, a sexy love interest, and fun best friend… and a small town setting in a haunted house. Sonya brushed off the ghosts for WAY too long and that was definitely eye roll inducing, but once she accepted them, her relationship with the friendly ghosts were actually pretty cute.
I liked all the details about Sonya’s work in graphic design advertising. I didn’t love the drag in the middle of this book… how many times do they need to discover and move furniture in this big house? And I didn’t really feel a big differentiation between Trey and Owen, the only two young guys in this town, but maybe I wasn’t paying attention.
The curse is interesting. The audiobook narration is EXCELLENTLY done. I’ll definitely continue in the series.
I love a good story set in Gothic mansion with ghosts. Nora has a way of writing characters that you feel like you already know and places that you feel like you can see. It's a gift and I always get lost in her novels. I listened to the audiobook and it's a fantastic way to enjoy this romance. The chemistry was there from the moment Sonya and Trey meet and I loved his protective personality. The mystery is well-designed and I'm looking forward to learning more in the next book!

If you are a fan of Gothic mansions, romance, strong females, strong friendships, and some supernatural mystery, then this book is a must-read.
The characters are brilliantly crafted, with each ghost possessing a unique personality. Even the Manor itself seems to come alive as its own character.
The seven brides' tales were heart-wrenchingly tragic, and their ghostly attempts to help Sonya solve the mystery were genuinely moving. The setting is the stunning coast of Maine, and the grounds and interior of the Manor are described in beautiful detail, making them come alive in the reader's imagination.
Brittany Pressley did a wonderful job with the narration. Her ability to give each character their own voice was impressive and made the story even more enjoyable.
Overall, this book is an intriguing, immersive story with a captivating plot and vibrant, multilayered characters.
I am eagerly looking forward to the next installment in the series. Be forewarned. This does end with a huge cliffhanger, but it's the perfect Segway to book two.
Definitely another Nora Roberts literary gem.
Thank you to Nora Roberts, Netgally and MacMillan audio for the advanced copy.
Nora Roberts NEVER disappoints. I’ve read every single one of her books and I loved this audio. It was so nicely done with the accent for Cleo. The spooky mansion, the ghosts and the relationships is pure Nora Roberts gold. I know most of her books come in threes so I was expecting the cliff hanger but my goodness this one has me biting my nails! Loved every second of it!
This is my first Nora Roberts book (audiobook). I thought to give this author a try. I did not care for it, it was too slow and quite dull for my liking. I received this ARC in exchange for a review. This one wasn’t for me, but thank you to St. Martin’s Press and NetGalley for a copy.
Thanks NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for an early copy to review!
This is my first ever Nora Roberts book and I’m hooked! This book is full of suspense, mystery and spookiness! A perfect Halloween read! Had an Inheritance Games feel but with ghosts. LOL
I definitely enjoyed the story but it ended on such a cliffhanger and I don’t like that. I need closure in my life and this is not the book for that. I get that I’ll have to read the rest of the series, but I would’ve liked a few more answers.
There’s a lot of swearing, which I’m mindful of with little ears around, and a few unnecessarily descriptive bedroom scenes. I’d recommend for any adult interested in spooky house vibes. It’s a very captivating story.
I wasn’t expecting it to abruptly end like that. Omg?!? What am I supposed to do now!
I loved the gothic mansion vibes that this story had. The haunted house and the MC was just very endearing. I loved all the characters and the family line is very intriguing along with the curse.
The narrator, Brittany Pressley, did a wonderful job portraying Sonya and the other character's. She added different tones, and inflections to their voices keeping me engaged till the very end.
It’s definitely a must read.
Thank you @stmartinspress @netgalley for my gifted digital copy, and @macmillan.audio for my audiobook copy. My thoughts are my own.
While I don’t read too many books with a supernatural element, Nora Roberts is an auto-buy author for me, so I was thrilled to receive this book and it definitely did not disappoint!
When Sonya MacTavish inherits a house in Maine from a late uncle she never knew she had, she decides to move in and try it out for 3 months. The timing is perfect since she recently ended her engagement to a cheating fiancé.
She discovers her inheritance is actually a picturesque mansion located on Maine’s rocky coast. The house is fully furnished, the town is welcoming, and her uncle’s attorney and family are very accommodating.
Trey, the young lawyer who greets her (and becomes her love interest) tells her about a ghost that inhabits the mansion, and soon, Sonya experiences things being moved and music playing. The ghost seems almost helpful. But then Sonya discovers there is more than one ghost inhabiting the mansion, and an old curse has been placed on brides of the house. Sonya must find seven missing wedding rings to end the curse.
This story had me hooked from the beginning. Sonya’s story is interspersed with flashbacks as ghostly brides tell their stories of being murdered on their wedding day or of dying in childbirth. I loved the picturesque setting and the element of suspense that were woven into the story.
This one ends with a cliffhanger, so I am already looking forward to the next book in the series. I alternated between and thoroughly enjoyed both the print and audio versions of this book. I highly recommend this one if you enjoy romantic suspense, picturesque settings, or ghost stories.
This was an interesting book. Gothic mansion meets fantasy and mystery. The ending was abrupt and was a huge cliffhanger. I know its going to be a trilogy but seems like a long time to wait to read the next book in the series next year. Thank you for the ARC of this book.
I loved this book. It is classic Nora Roberts writing style and content, but sometimes that’s just what you need. A long lost uncle, a surprise haunted manor, and a fun cast of characters. I was really connected and couldn’t wait to go back whenever I stopped listening. The only small minus is that it ends on a cliff hanger!
I was sent a copy of this book from a publisher/publicity team/giveaway. My ratings and reviews will be my own personal opinions and are in no way influenced by publishers or authors who may have sent me books to review.
I loved the beginning of this book. I was instantly hooked, and I really liked how we started to learn about the characters before jumping into all of the paranormal stuff. I flew through parts one and two.
I loved everything about the first half. It kept moving, we were learning new things, we had the fun family ghosts, and the start of a romance. I found myself smiling when the music would start playing songs, especially towards romantic moments. Plus who does not want someone to clean up everything for you!
Sadly, part three is where this was started to lose me. Part three had way too many new characters/ghosts/past characters thrown in. I could no longer picture some of the paranormal stuff that was starting to happen.
Overall, I really loved some of this and disliked some of it. It was a little too slow and repetitive at times. I want to know what happens next though. I would have rated the first half 4/4.5 stars.
This book was absolutely amazing.the narration was great and it drew me in from the start. The imagery was immersive and the suspense! I cannot wait until the next one comes out!
4ish stars
I haven’t read a Nora Roberts book for years, but I used to love them. I requested this one initially because of the writer and the gorgeous cover art/design, but the gothic mystery/romance vibes of the description also appealed to me. Although I enjoyed the story, I felt like much of the first chunk (two thirds or so, maybe) didn’t have a lot of conflict or tension; it picked up towards the end as the story really leaned into the old haunted mansion setting. Additionally, while I understand that a lot of fiction novels require at least a certain extent of disbelief, I just couldn’t quite get over how readily everyone in this book was willing to just accept as fact the idea that the house was haunted by a series of ghosts. I enjoyed a fair bit of it, and it was actually pretty light for much of the story (including some of the writer’s signature elements), but I haven’t decided yet if I’ll continue with the rest of the trilogy, once it’s available.
I haven't ever read a Nora Roberts book before, but I have absolutely heard her name as she is universally known. I am actually kinda pissed at myself for not reading her books earlier. She is amazing! I love love love this book and will absolutely be buying a hard copy. I will recommend this to all of my friends and followers. Can't wait for the rest of the trilogy!
This book is fantastic. The worst part, is it ended too soon!! I need the second one now!! I could not put this down! There are ghosts, adventure and romance. A must read!!
I haven't fallen this deeply into a Nora Roberts trilogy in years. I requested because the cover felt like her previous Bride series but when I found out that it's also a ghost story, I was extra excited. This held up to what I wanted. It's spooky and intriguing. It's found family and the clear set of three couples that we love in Robert's trilogies. This story of the manor house that Sonya inherits and it's history will keep you reading all night long. It's pacing is great. The romance or the mystery both move the story forward at the right timing to keep readers hooked. I am very excited for what's next because HOLY CLIFFHANGER
4.5
This book was chock-full of all the seasonal autumn vibes I had hoped for. It had a lovely mix of gothic mystery, a wee bit o’ romance, and even some fantastical paranormal aspects dropped in.
I was pleasantly surprised by just how much I enjoyed this. The characters were vibrant and complex, the wonderful rescue dogs stole my heart, and most of the ghosts were adorable. The only thing I wished was that it didn’t end in a cliffhanger because I want to read the next one immediately!
I did a combo of audio and digital and I was terribly impressed by the audio. Brittany Pressley did a phenomenal job of narrating and complete embodied the spirit of the book!
Thank you Macmillan Audio for the alc and St. Martin’s Press for the arc via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review!
Inheritance is the first book in The Lost Bride Trilogy. We meet Sonya, a graphic designer who after breaking up with her finance, has started her own business. Sonya is amazed to learn that she has inherited a grand Victorian manor from an Uncle she never knew about. The house is a beautiful mansion, overlooking the ocean in Maine and comes with ghosts and a curse. Sonya moves into the house and and learns about it's haunted history.
This was an amazing journey that Sonya starts. The secondary characters are wonderful, we have Sonya's mom and her best friend Chloe. The uncle's lawyer is very nice, and of course he has a handsome son that offers Sonya a lot of help with the house. This is the 1st book in the trilogy, so it ends on a big cliffhanger, but it will be worth the wait!
Thanks to Netgalley and MacMillan audio for the advanced listener copy. Brittany Pressley is a wonderful narrator. I really enjoyed this ghost story/mystery and I can't wait for part 2!
