A slow burn centered in four friend trying to find a way to gain capital and become wealthy. This book center on Henry Campbell owning his past and trying to clear up his gambling issues.

He had decided to marry a filthy rich woman who could clean up his money problems. That is until he meets another woman Hannah Kerr where he views a murder of her own father! Her mother runs off to to a nunnery. So she is all alone, scared and frightened. Hemry has became her protector and care taker and he is falling in love too. The problem is they are from different classes.

I really enjoyed this story and it was fun to see how they would discover their happily ever after! A read I absolutely loved!

This book is the story of Henry Campbell, finally taking responsibility for his past mistakes and his determination to make restitution for his gambling debts. In the process, he falls in love with a young lady he rescues who is not of his social class. Her father murdered and mother now in a convent, Hannah Kerr is in no position to turn down help when it's offered. As more information about her parents comes to light, Hannah can only see turning Henry away. Family and friends' dynamics complicates their relationship. On sound advice, Henry takes matters into his own hands. Open bedroom door. I voluntarily read and reviewed a copy of this book from NetGalley.

I just couldn't get into this one. I wanted to love it but I felt like an outsider and had no desire to keep reading.

Cozy! That's the best way to describe this book. It's on the short side, so I finished it in one sitting... and I enjoyed every single page on it. One of the things I like the most is that it was a friends to lovers... most historical romances abuse of the enemies to lovers trope... but Hannah and Henry made the whole journey. It's not something I read a lot of in historical romances, so it made me really happy. I hope to read more from you... soon.

This is Henry and Hannah's love story. It's also Book 2 in the Rogues of the Lowland series. Henry and Hannah come from two different worlds. His family is rich and Highmore and hers barely puts food on the table. Henry is at that point in his life where he feels it's time to grow up and make something of himself, and after Hannah's father is murdered and her mother leaves he feels he needs to protect her.

A Rogue to Forget by Hildie McQueen, the second book in the Rogues of the Lowlands series, weaves a captivating tale of love, mystery, and fortunes. Henry Campbell and Hannah Kerr, brought together by unexpected circumstances, defy societal norms as they navigate a world filled with danger, intrigue, and financial challenges. While their burgeoning relationship and the overarching theme of growth are highlights, the book falls slightly short in fully resolving its mysteries. Nevertheless, McQueen's storytelling prowess shines, drawing readers into a web of secrets and emotions. The social differences, a rich supporting cast, and a satisfying climax add depth to this engaging narrative, making it a recommended read for those who enjoy love stories with a hint of mystery and adventure.

When they think they are r just gonna be friends is usually when they fall the hardest. Hence the beginning of this book. A damsel in distress recued by just a friend... He needs a rich wife, she us neither rich or gentry.
I enjoyed the way the friends bantered back and forth and how she stood up for herself. I also, enjoyed seeing the ending and look forward to hearing an update in future books! (Hint, hint)
I read this book in exchange for a free copy and am giving my honest opinion.

A Rogue to Forget by Hildie McQueen is another entry in her Rogues of the Lowlands series. It was not her best effort. In my opinion it needed another pass-through by the author and some serious editing. The story was good as were the characters but the flow was off as was the sentence construction and coherency. In a rush?

Henry Campbell had discovered her father’s dead body in his tea shop and had become very protective of her since. Her mother had run off to join a convent almost immediately, leaving Hannah to fend for herself. Thankfully she had her maid, Marta, who served as her companion and maid-of-all-work, and also ran back to her village to bring her nephew to guard them when things started getting dicey. Henry was not nobility, but of a higher social and economic standing than Hannah and so their growing feelings were never going to go anywhere. But, after some disturbing incidents, Henry and his friends and Hannah searched the entire house, leaving no floorboard unturned, looking for whatever it was that someone wanted so badly. In doing this they turned up things from the past that were disconcerting and drove Hannah to try to see her mother in the convent. There she discovered a mentally unbalanced woman in need of care. She was frightened. The plot was a good one, it was a shame it was executed so poorly.

Henry Campbell has been living a dissolute life through gambling, wasting money on wagers, and other irresponsible means. Henry and three of his friends are trying to raise funds for an investment opportunity to start turning their lives around and make changes. Henry also starts working with his father to show how serious he is about changing his life.
Hannah Kerrr's father has been murdered, and her mother then immediately leaves for a convent with no explanation whatsoever to Hannah or anyone.
There is a magnetic connection between Henry and Hannah, but also a social divide. Henry's desire to show maturity and improve his life helps him realize a marriage of love is the most important thing of all.

Although this novel started off slowly, I found that as the plot thickened, it became more exciting and the best was saved for last. The best characteristic that Henry Campbell had was to learn from his mistakes. Recognizing his errors changes him and makes him a better man, one who is willing to be the protector of the weak and champion of a woman left to face the bitter decisions made by others. When it came to facing his own family with the challenge, things did not go too smoothly, but with this father's example, Henry chooses to take matters into his own hands. Hannah Kerr is devastated by her father's murder, but her mother's desertion is worse than a slap in the face. As much as Hannah longs to allow Henry to take up the reins of her life, the social divide between them is too great, and breaching that chasm will cause unnecessary harm to his family name. Caught up in swirling emotions with a mystery to be solved and a killer to track down, Hannah and Henry battle to keep their focus. However, with Henry taking the next giant step towards maturity, the novel comes to a sweet and enjoyable conclusion. I received a copy of this romance as a gift through Dragonblade Publishing and NetGalley and this is my honest and voluntary review.

Henry Campbell and three of his friends are trying to change their ways. Each of them has been living a dissolute life, gambling and wasting money all the time. An investment opportunity has come up and they have agreed on a challenge to fund it.

After the murder of her father Hannah Kerr is left in a very difficult situation. Is she safe, how can she solve her problems???

This historical romance is part of a series that is better read in order because of the underlying challenge. All the characters are strong and sympathetic. You can't help but fall in love with them. I have read both of the books in this series and enjoyed them. I look forward to reading the rest.

Great fun.

After squandering a fortune on the gambling tables, Henry Campbell agrees to join a challenge with three friends to come up with capitol for a venture that will make them rich. With a looming deadline to come up with investment money, Henry decides to marry a debutante with a large dowry. However, after stumbling upon a murder, he becomes protector to a young woman left alone as a result. When Hannah Kerr’s father is murdered her mother flees to a convent, leaving her alone and unprotected until Henry protects her
The second book in the series & it’s better read in order as the challenge is the ongoing thread. I liked both Henry & Hannah & thoroughly enjoyed their rocky journey to a HEA but I was left feeling a bit unsatisfied with the mystery surrounding Hannah’s father as I didn’t get all the answers. I loved Henry & Hannah’s strength & how they didn’t back down nor give up on each other. A well written enjoyable read which just fell a tad short
My review is for a special copy I voluntarily read

I thoroughly enjoyed this book but what kept it from being a 4-star review was that I felt some of the more interesting parts of the story were not fully resolved. For example, I would have liked a little more with the mystery surrounding the murder of Hannah's father. The parts with everyone investigating were some of the best in the book, but although we do find out what happened, the mystery is only half-solved (what was the key for??). And I find it hard to believe that the last Henry would have heard from Una was him telling her mother he would not marry her - that and I would have loved for a scene with him telling her he would never marry such a manipulative and devious woman. Also, was his mother in on the whole thing? If so, why would she want her son to enter into a marriage under those circumstances? I also wasn't sure how much time passed from her father's death to the events of the book. She mentions almost being out of mourning but it feels like he only died a few weeks ago. I'm not sure what the rules were for mourning the death of a parent.

Now for the good parts. I really liked how Hannah took charge of things. Even though she had all of these people trying to take over and protect her she didn't let them tell her what to do or prevent her from finding out the truth about what happened to her father. The part with her yelling at her newly discovered brother pretty much showed how tough she was and that she was ready and willing to stand up for herself. As for Henry I also liked him a lot. I liked that he didn't give up on Hannah when everyone was telling him she wasn't the right woman for him to marry. Him standing up to his family (mostly his mother) was one of my favorite parts. His plan to fight for Hannah was a little high-handed but he did give her a choice so he could be forgiven.

Some of the chapters were dedicated to setting up future novels in the series and served their purpose perfectly because now I really want to find out what happens with Grant and Miles.

A Rogue to Forget was thrilling. The energetic plot was filled with suspense, tension, action, snippets of levity, and romance. From the moment the protagonists met, they gravitated toward one another and gushed with chemistry. The author's use of vivid details created a lively tone. I liked the riveting narrative.

Social Differences, Mystery, Fortunes:
The plot continues in book 2 as the four friends have a plan to make each one a fortune in their near future if they can each come up with the money to pull it all together.
Each will get the money in a different way, or will they?
This story starts with a mysterious and tragic beginning that will bring Henry and Hannah together.
We follow both of them along with their friends and family through many emotional and turbulently frustrating situations before they find their very happy and rewarding ending.
A charming standalone love story that continues the adventure of 4 young men on their way to hopefully find love and fortune.
