I'm definitely past the target reading age for VC Andrews, I'm not a preteen anymore lol. However, this was a good book, second in a series, and I definitely suggest reading the first one before diving into this, as the backstory is really important to understand. Honestly, I like Holly the best of any character - like most VC Andrews books, this one deals with a teen who has been sheltered and kept locked away by family. The reason is absurd in this day and age, and she seemed much younger than the 14 she was supposed to be. Very much a formulaic book by the ghost writer of the deceased author, but good overall.

I read this book immediately after finishing the first one thanks to getting both ARC books.
While I felt in this one Caroline was treated quite so heinously, the treatment by her father and his new family sucked. Just when she thinks she might actually be getting a break in Hawaii to be a part of her fathers new family, she’s not only not warmly welcomed but thwarted by the step-sister and the lies she tells to get her sent back to Sutherland. In all the reprogramming Grandfather Sutherland put her through in the first book, there should have been some training of real world difficulties and standing up for yourself. I am hopeful that she can go back to Sutherland and not have to endure more torture. This however is a VCAndrews book and children, young adults are always tormented in some way or another..

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC. This book was significantly better than the first book in the series. Caroline is much more developed as the main character of this book and I felt more vested in her while reading. The other family members are becoming more developed and I was interested in learning more about her Aunt by the time I finished. This book was much closer to what I expect from a V.C. Andrews book. The plot of this book kept me much more interested than the first book in the series did. This book was an easy read. I am looking forward to the next book in this series.

I’m already anxiously anticipating the next one in the series!!! This echoes everything you’d expect and want from a V.C. Andrews tale. So complicated, so twisted, so compelling.

I can definitely picture this as a Lifetime series too! I hope that’ll be in the works one day.

Thank you NetGalley & Gallery Books for sending this book for review consideration!

I keep reading the newer Andrew’s books hoping I’ll come across one as good at the originals. This one was ok but still did not compare to the early original series written by Andrew’s herself. Somehow nothing will ever top the Secrets in the Attic series nor the novel My Sweet Audrina. She has some amazing classics from the 80’s and early 90’s!

I read my first V.C. Andrews book way back in the dinosaur age (aka early 1980's. Yes, I'm dating myself). It was Flowers in the Attic, and I can still remember just how much that book (and the whole series) affected me. Since that time I have read a lot of V.C. Andrews books, and unfortunately the ones written by a ghostwriter just don't compare to those penned by the late writing queen herself. Yes, there are the usual twists and turns, but they will never compare to the earlier books. If you like mystery, drama, trauma - all the V.C. Andrews things - then I would still recommend it, but I'm afraid this will probably be the last one I read for awhile. I keep hoping I'll recapture that feeling from her 1980's work, but I keep getting disappointed. **heavy sigh** I don't know. Maybe I'm just spoiled.

I love the vibes of V.C. Andrews books, but I was so disappointed in this book. The premise was great and even had that true VCA family trauma, but the character development was not there for me. The story seemed rushed and unfinished.

Thank you, NetGalley, Publisher, and Author for providing an advanced copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinion. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

It amazes me how one person can craft so many stories in their lifetime! This book by Andrews was well done - I enjoyed the characters and the plot. It flowed well and I certainly wasn't bored reading it. Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC. Four stars!
