I once again loved being back in Emerald Bay and seeing all the familiar faces. There's honestly nothing like small town living and all the characters that go along with it. If you've ever lived in a small town, a true small town, the fictional characters here will be familiar in real life, too😅
This one was a lot more serious than the previous two in the series, more thought-provoking, with deeper topics and relationships, and not just romantic relationships. It was not as humorous as the previous in the series, but that's not a bad thing. It's just different. I loved the lovely sentiment of the ring warming ceremony. It wasn't something I'm familiar with.
The ending! That air of mystery... what's coming? Who's story will be next? I can't wait to see!
If you like
Christmas, small town, second chances, close knit families then read this book, it's the 3rd in the series, it's not crucial to read them in order, but it will add to your reading pleasure if you do.
I love Christmas romances, they make me feel warm and fuzzy. I expected to enjoy this book, but what I didn’t count on was just how heartfelt and charming this story was. From the very beginning, I was swept away and laughing by the Irish Blessing:
“May those who love us love us.
And those that don't love us,
May God turn their hearts.
And if He doesn't turn their hearts,
May he turn their ankles, So we'll know them by their limping.”
At age 24, twin sisters, Grace and Ava Kelly are leaving their small Irish village of Emerald Bay to live in London. Wanting to see more of the world outside of Ireland, the women are leaving behind all they have ever know, and in Ava’s case, the only man she’s ever loved.
After a year of living on their own, partying, and dating, Ava is disappointed that London hasn’t quite lived up to her expectations, while Grace seems to be thriving. An unexpected late night phone call brings shocking news to Ava and she finds herself on the first flight home to Emerald Bay.
All at once, Ava finds herself reflecting on what’s most important in her life and understands what she needs to truly be happy and fulfilled. But Ava knows that speaking up for what she wants, just may change the dynamics of her close-knit family forever.
What I loved about this book was the humor, the themes of family and community, and most of all, the relationship amongst sisters. The character development was incredibly strong and it led the story in such a way that made it impossible to put this book down. I may have even shed a tear or two.
This is a MUST for anyone’s Christmas reading list!
Oh where to start. I’ve just finished reading Michelle Vernal’s Christmas books back to back and I feel like I might now have withdrawal from the Kelly family now. I wasn’t sure if the two Christmas stories could be read independently of each other (they can be) but I feel all the richer having read them both together as the characters were more familiar and their dynamics strengthened when I was reading the Christmas miracle in the little Irish village. A simple story with a happy ever after but isn’t that what all Christmas stories should include. This is definitely a great Christmas story to sink your teeth into with a nice hot chocolate on a cold winters day.
Thank you NetGalley, the publisher and the author for the opportunity to read this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I really like Michelle Vernal's books, the settings are gorgeous and the characters are well rounded and relatable.
Ava and Grace are twins and have done everything together their whole lives. Grace desperately wants to leave the little village where they were born to explore the bright lights of London. Ava reluctantly goes with her, leaving her boyfriend Shane behind. London is a shock, it is very busy and expensive. And the life she thought she would have, isn't really happening.
Suddenly though, Ava rushes back to Emerald Bay when some terrible news reaches her about Shane. Being back in the bosom of her family is comforting but Ava's actions lead to a rift with her twin.
Will Grace and Ava's relationship be mended or will they lead separate lives from now on? And what about Shane?
This was a bit of a "heart in your mouth" kind of book. There was a fair bit going on and as much as I liked the setting, I was nervous for Shane. And I thought Ava's behaviour wasn't fabulous at times.
As you can tell though, I got very emotionally involved! Would love to read more about the Kelly clan.
4.5 stars from me.
Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture.
Thanks to the Publisher and Netgalley for an early review copy.
Ava is in London, along with her twin sister Grace. She receives a call from her Mum, informing her that her ex Shane is missing at sea. Hearing this she leaves London and goes home to Emerald Bay.
When Ava wanted to see more of the world, she ended her relationship, now, hearing that he might be in trouble, Ava realises she still loves Shane and wants him home safely. So she can tell him that she’s in love with him still.
Whilst Shane is missing, her relationship with her sister Grace is strained after they have an argument over what Ava should do next.
This is a lovely story, set in Emerald Bay, where Ava’s parents parents Liam and Nora, Kitty her grandmother and her sisters Shannon, Imogen, Hannah live at The Shamrock Inn.
As well as the Christmassy feel to the story, there was some topics that were handled sensitively.
I recommend this book.
Ava is in London with her twin sister Grace when she hears that her ex boyfriend Shane was swept overboard from his fishing boat back in Emerald Bay, Ireland. She immediately rushes back home to join the others in their wait to see if he is rescued, leaving Grace behind.
This is as much a story about the relationship between Ava and Grace, as it is between Ava and Shane, whose relationship did not survive the move to London. Flashbacks give an insight into their histories, the twins have always been very close but Shane seemed to come between them. You have to hope and prey that Shane is saved and that the twins can recover their closeness.
I received an advance copy of this book from the publisher through Netgalley, however this did not influence my review of the book.
‘Ava, love, it’s Shane. He’s missing.’
When Ava Kelly gets a phone call from home telling her that her ex-boyfriend is missing at sea, she frantically leaves London to return to Emerald Bay.
Ava had wanted to travel, and it led to the end of her relationship with Shane Egan. But when she knows he's in danger, Ava realises how much she loves Shane and prays he'll be safe so that they might have another chance together.
It's always great to return to Emerald Bay, where the Kelly family, parents Liam and Nora, grandmother Kitty, and five daughters Shannon, Imogen, Hannah, Grace and Ava, call the Shamrock Inn home.
A Christmas Miracle in the Little Irish Village brings together the Kelly family, as well as the weird and wonderful characters who live in Emerald Bay.
However, this instalment is on the more serious side, given Shane's situation and the search for him, as well as the fractured relationship between Ava and her twin, Grace. I also felt very sorry for Shane as his discussed his beloved mum.
I enjoyed the serious topics and how they were handled, whilst we also had the usual humour and festive feel as the village prepared for Christmas.
It was lovely to see Shane and Ava reunited. The romance between them was very sweet. But with Ava and Grace at odds, will she have to choose between the love of her life and her twin?
A Christmas Miracle in the Little Irish Village is a sweet, fun, festive read that's emotional and enjoyable. And with a little mystery right at the end, I'll definitely be ready to return to Emerald Bay again soon!
Ava returns to Emerald Bay from London when she discovers her ex boyfriend is missing. Her twin Grace isn't happy and they fall out. All of the village are calling it a Christmas miracle when Shane is found alive
I couldn’t love meeting the Kelly family more, so imagine my delight upon discovering this book is part of a series! While I didn’t begin with Book #1 (Christmas in the Little Irish Village), that did nothing to take away from my enjoyment of the story and I was able to get to know the Kelly family quickly through Vernal’s detailed descriptions of each character and the way they so naturally interact with one another, despite starting with Book #3. I will gladly pick up the previous titles from the Little Irish Village series and look forward to joining my new favorite family in their cozy village for more stories of heart, family and home.
Part Little Women with its tale of many sisters and part Family Stone with its big family dynamics (bursting at the seams with large personalities), the Kelly family are the true stars of A Christmas Miracle in the Little Irish Village and it is such a treat to explore the dynamics between each of them. Refreshingly, Vernal manages to steer clear from turning any of the distinctive personality types into caricatures (maybe aside from a handful of the villagers who are only more entertaining for being written as such). The Kelly’s instead are all written very wholly and the relationships between each pairing of sisters feels unique and realistic. Michelle Vernal was able to transport the reader directly to Emerald Bay for the holidays, fully immersing us in tons of cozy atmosphere. I was surprised to find that these characters were written with much more depth than the typical rom com and was delighted by the strong writing style backed with a smooth flow throughout the novel. While this will surely be categorized as a cozy romance, the writing rarely veers into the saccharine as it is grounded by laugh out loud humor and a fresh storyline that still delivers a heartwarming finish. The great Irish turns of phrase lend themselves to enhancing the overall atmosphere- Vernal writes the dialogue in such a way that you feel like your are right there in Emerald Bay at Christmastime (just don’t let Nan catch you skipping breakfast!)
The main characters of this love story are Ava and Shane, but the relationships between the five sisters (particularly twins Ava and Grace in this installment of the series) are the true love story and what will keep you coming back for more. I was also especially drawn to the characterization of matriarch, Nora, and particularly pleased that the author gave us part of the story from her point of view. Nora’s loyalty to her family and to who her daughters are as individuals is beautifully illustrated through her chapters and is the part of the story I felt most attached to.
Overall I found A Christmas Miracle in the Little Irish Village to be utterly enchanting and greatly look forward to more time spent with the Kelly family in the future. An easy recommendation from this reviewer! Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for the digital advanced reader copy in exchange for my honest thoughts and opinions.
This was a quick and fun read. A perfect cozy Christmas book for anyone looking for a book to read on a rainy weekend day.
Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for a copy of "A Christmas Miracle in the Little Irish Village" in exchange for my honest opinion.
The Kelly family run the Shamrock Inn in the village of Emerald Bay. Nora and Liam Kelly have 5 daughters - Shannon in Galway, Imogen in Dublin, Hannah in Cork and twins Grace and Ava live in London. Shane Egan was the love of Ava's life but her twin convinced her to move to London with her and leave the village and Shane behind. Hoping that Shane would go with her, she was disappointed when he chose to stay with his father and brothers. A frantic call from her mam brings Ava rushing back to Emerald Bay when Shane is reported missing from his family's fishing boat. On the flight home and the drive to Emerald Bay Ava remembers how she and Shane first met back in 2016 when his dog Jody jumped on Ava at the beach.
Ava realizes that she is still in love with Shane and hopes that a Christmas miracle will bring him back to her and that he still loves her as well. Through several misunderstandings and disagreements everyone realizes that they are a family first and they can't exist without each other. Ava feels that Grace needs to realize that while they are twins, they are also two separate people and can have their own dreams.
My favourite character was Napoleon the cat who is a wee kleptomaniac - he loves to steal socks, boxers and even false eyelashes, then deliver them as "gifts".
I hope there are more stories to come from this heartwarming series. It is well-written and engaging. The reader will feel like they are one of the Kelly family as they join them on this journey
A lovely cozy holiday book set in a charming Irish village.
Two sisters always come back to their home for the holiday. In fact, they do everything together - including leaving home together and sharing their lives.
This trip back one of the sisters has fallen in love with a man who lives in the village. She has to find a way to tell her sister that she will not be leaving this time.
I loved this charming holiday book. I read it with a warm cup of tea and it filled my heart.
A Christmas Miracle in the Little Irish Village follows Ava as she returns home to Emerald Bay for Christmas. This book was a wonderful Christmas book about romance that is truly heartwarming. I loved reading about Ava and Shane and how their romance blossomed. This was a perfect book about Christmas, family, love and Christmas miracles. The author wrote this so well and I would recommend to anyone! Thank you to NetGalley and publisher for this ARC book.
A well written romance. I throughly enjoyed the plot, setting and the characters. I recommend this book. My thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for my ARC. This is my unbiased review.
A Christmas Miracle in the Little Irish Village, is Ava Kelly's story. I found the story sweet, short and happy all around. It was fast paced with just the right amount of family dynamics, quirk and good old community spirit.
This author writes with warmth and engaging perception about our relationship and understanding…..
Many thanx as always to NetGalley, the publishers and the author for allowing me to read and review this book.
I didn’t like this one as much as the author’s other books and it has nothing to do with her writing but I disliked the main character from the minute she got home, I thought she was unpleasant and rude to anyone she felt was insignificant including members of her own family. Having said that there were some parts that made me laugh .
This is such a heartwarming Christmas story. It has all the feelings and emotions. There are a lot of hurt feelings and reconciliations. The essence of the book is about family and friends. It’s a great read. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced free copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. I received a copy from the publisher through NetGalley.
