A Fate Of Smoke And Ash" is a debut fantasy novel that takes the reader on an adventurous journey into a world of myths and magic.
The female protagonist Shivalri had never thought of magic as anything more than a fairy tale, but as the story unravels, she discovers herself to be the key to fulfilling an ancient prophecy.
On her journey to uncover the mysteries of her lineage, she finds herself imprisoned in the Under Realm by none other than the Daimon of the Dead. Pyre Malum is on a quest for revenge and wants to use Shivalri's magic to open the Gates of the Under Realm and consequently unleash Hell upon Earth. Shivalri has to learn quickly how to navigate these new elements and worlds to escape the Under Realm and save her home.
The plot is fast-paced and action-packed. While the reader has to learn about this new world, it never gets confusing because we learn alongside the protagonist. This allowed me to enjoy both the fast and slower moments of the story as it was never boring nor was I overwhelmed with confusing worldbuilding.
The romance is definitely a subplot but it fit quite well with the character arcs and added another layer of complex to the story.

A Fate of Smoke and Ash is a gripping debut YA fantasy novel with themes of grief, adventure and finding yourself. A lot of the beginning is slow because there was so much time and dedication put into the world and lore building. Even with that I was still hooked and hoping to figure out what was going on with every page turn. I love the diversity in this book, the tension build up and the writing style. The ending left me wanting more and I can’t wait to see what this author does next! Thank you author, publisher and NetGalley for this ARC!
An unfortunate incident sets the family apart. And then the big secrets unveil themselves followed by the innumerable emotions and removal of the veil of all three realms. As well as Shivalri also gets to know about her family heritage but when the secrets haul off, the danger also encapsulate itself and the unthinkable happens. When I started reading the book, I wasn’t knowing what I am getting myself into but as I read it, the mystery begins to get deeper and the world became more intriguing. It was compelling. I loved the grandmother’s character. I felt sad for some characters and some truths surprised me. I mean wow such an intriguing characters and brilliant world building. I love when emotions controls the inner powers. I love the description of three realms. And I felt that there is some hidden plan but I loved Pyre’s character. I can’t wait to read next book by the author. It is a YA dark fantasy with elements of mystery and mythology woven in the story.
