This! Is! The! Cutest! Book!
I love this! It's the perfect blend of fun holiday cheer AND Mothman! (As someone who has gone to the Mothman Festival for the past 3 years, I would know.) This children's book (that despite warnings, I did absolutely read to the tune of Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer) would be a great book to read to your little cryptozoologist this holiday season. I don't have children and even I'm contemplating purchasing this as a holiday gift for myself, as it was just THAT fun and cute to read.
I also really liked the brief definitions and explanations of what cryptozoology and Mothman is, along with a funny little Q & A that was included at the end. (Especially if you're trying to teach the lore of Mothman to your little up and coming cryptozoologist - they'll have important questions that NEED to be answered!)
Live. Laugh. Lurk.
Thank you to the author, Netgalley, and 8th Circle Press for providing me this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This kids book is absolutely adorable and needs to be placed right along with all the other classic Christmas stories.
Thank you to NetGalley and 8th Circle Press for providing this electronic advanced copy for review!
I love mothman and I love this silly little mothman Christmas book. This book is fun and genuinely made me laugh. A super cute picture book and a fresh new book for Christmas.
Thank you NetGalley for providing me with this arc in exchange for my honest review.
This is now my favorite Christmas story!
I had a blast reading this one!
This was fun, unique, surprising and fun (I know I already said fun but this was extra fun!).
Mothman is a cryptid. A cryptid is a mythical creature whose existence has yet to be verified by science.
At first everyone thinks he brings bad luck and he even starts believing it himself. But when Rudolph is on vacation, Santa asks Mothman to pull his sleigh. At first he has doubts but after some great advice from a fellow cryptid, he starts believing in himself again and this leads to an amazing outcome!
A cute and creepy take on the original Rudolf tale.
When rudolf takes a holiday, Mothman must step in with their bright red eyes to help guide Santa’s sleigh.
I really enjoyed this.
I decided to check this out as a born-and-raised West Virginian. It's a cute idea for a story and the art was fun. I just feel like it's a one-and-done for me. The author said it's kind of sung to the tune of Rudolph and kind of not, due to copyright. I found myself trying to sing it to that tune in my head anyway and it never quite fits, nor do things always rhyme neatly. The story is short and there's not much to it. It felt a little sloppy. I wouldn't purchase this unless as a gag gift for a local.
4 stars
MOTHMAN SUPREMACY. Mothman guiding Santa's sleigh? Iconic and exactly the type of cryptid Christmas story that children need in their life.
Sung (well, sort of . . . ) to the tune of 'Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer', this tale of how Mothman saved Christmas is a hoot! I particularly loved the questions in the reading guide for parents, teachers, and librarians. My favorite was "Why doesn't Santa's sleigh have headlights?" Geez - you'd think that would have occurred to the old guy by now. Luckily he's got Mothman and his glowing red eyes to light the way.
On Dasher, on Dancer, on Mothman!
This little cryptid themed holiday book made me lol. Very cute and funny with whimsical illustrations. Perfect for the Christmas and horror loving fan in your life! I’d definitely buy a copy for that person!
Thanks to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for the e-arc I received in exchange for my honest review.
This is such a fun little horror book for kids and adults alike. If like both horror and Christmas, this is the perfect gift! I enjoyed it so much I will re-read it on Christmas day. Who knows, maybe when I have children of my own I'll read it to them, so that we can all enjoy some Mothman cheer! Lovely!
My little cousin LOVED this when I read it to her. I thought it was adorable. I will be buying a physical copy for her.
Fellow spooky parents will adore this book. Who said spooky kids’ books are only for Halloween? Not Andrew Shaffer, since Rudolph is being all lazy, he’s brought us Mothman to fill our black little hearts with Christmas cheer. This homage to Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer is a cryptid twist to a holiday classic and a cute reminder to love our spooky little (or big) friends that go bump in the night. – On a side note, I love the parents' reading guide, such a fun and witty addition to the story.
Humor/Satire. Mothman has a low score in people's opinion bringing accidents and bad luck (so people think) but Rudolph is on vacation and Santa relies on Mothman to pull his sleigh. It's time for the monthman to believe in himself. And he does pretty well helping Santa.
The illustrations are vibrant and fun. Rhyming story.
Thank you Netgalley and publisher for this e-ARC.
This book is adorable!
We’re big into cryptids and monsters in my house and loved this spin on Rudolph The Rednosed Reindeer!
Thought this was adorable.
It did say it was written like Rudolph but not to the tune. Too bad the tune came to my head as was reading it. This seems like a simple story for someone like my one year old nephew to read to.
Loved the illustrations as well and the use of the big red eyes as a substitute for Rudolph's nose.
I hope I can get a physical copy.
this made my little cryptid loving heart so happy. it was just the cutest little thing i ever did see
This is a silly, lighthearted picture book where Mothman and his shining red eyes play a pivotal role in the saving of Christmas. It has cutesy rhymes, and the artwork is fun. Would definitely be a fun gift for a child whose parents love Mothman.
I wish there was a little more substance to the book, whether that is more of a storyline or artwork that makes you want to linger and look at all of the chaos he's causing all over the page. As it stands, it's not a book that I loved or held my niblings' attention (though, to be fair, their interest in books is a bit haphazard).
Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for allowing me to access an ARC of this book!
What a cute, weird little Christmas tale! Mothman's Merry Cryptid Christmas reimagines the Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer song (the author suggests not reading it like that, but it's way more fun!) to be a quirky cryptid filled tale. It was strange, and I love it for that! The illustrations were vivid and detailed, which really added to the charm of the story. The author also added fun facts about the different cryptids throughout the book. I'd highly recommend this story to adults and children alike, especially those who are already familiar with some of the creatures we see in this book.
This book was so adorable, I loved everything about it, the illustrations were so well done, they suited the book perfectly, the story was amazing as well, even thought is very short I could really connect with the characters. I’m sure the kids are going to be just as enthralled with this amazing book as I was. I will definitely recommend! Thank you netgalley and the publisher for this early copy
A fun cryptid take on a lovable Christmas character . It’s silly informative and will make kids and adults laugh. I think it’s an original Christmas story that everyone should add to their collection
