Thank you publisher and Netgalley for this ecopy.

This was such a cute little book with a beautiful moral. At 25 I'm really trying to accept me for who I am. I wish I knew these things when I was younger. But I think it's never too late🤍

Not a favorite of mine. I like the messaging of it but there wasn't a compelling story for kids. It was very wordy and just straight informative. It felt more like a factual book about penguins instead of a cute story about a specific penguin who found his place. Not what i expected and very disappointing.

Our family are huge Marcus Pfister fans. Rainbow Fish is one of our favorite stories and series to follow. And read. We received this as an ebook ARC and were absolutely blown away. What a magnificent and well written story. The perfect book that our children young and old need now. This is an introduction to diversity and is done with perfection.THis story takes place with those penguins we all love. They are all the same right? This wonderful story shows how each penguin is so unique and different and that those differences are what makes them so very special. We love how the story shows that everyone can be themselves and we as a community can celebrate those differences and be happy together. Children can relate to so many of the characters and what made them individuals. WE love how it showed that while Timmy can be a clown that he still may have sadness deep down and needs friends to understand him. It shows Sarah who doesn’t like to talk much but with her great memory she shares the pictures she loves to draw as her way to communicate. You will love all the characters and how the story shows that everyone belongs together. This story shares a strong message that I believe all children, and adults, need to hear. Along with warm illustrations this story was a great way to share diversity and acceptance with my littles. I highly recommend this book to families. I think this would be a wonderful book to share in a classroom. Enjoy this little penguin adventure. We will be adding to our collection at home.

Celebrate difference in the cocoon of unity!
What a wonderful presentation!
Many thanks to David Henry Wilson for his translation to English from the German.
The illustrations by the author are fun, detailed, brilliant, and absolutely delightful.
Well suited for reading WITH someone of any age including ESL, and great for gifting to anyone (I've preordered one for gifting to at least one friend), but especially to a school or your local public library!
I requested and received a free temporary e-book on Adobe Digital Editions from NorthSouth Books via NetGalley. Thank you!

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

This was a super cute book that explains that everyone is different and unique in their own ways. Everyone is a penguin but everyone is different. Would be a great book to add to your classroom.

Thank you netgalley for allowing me to read this book.

While my kids really enjoyed Rainbow Fish, A Penguin Like Me won't be added to our library. It has snippets of gender ideology, which really is unnecessary in a book marketed for toddlers.

“Every penguin is different. But each one is a penguin.”

"A Penguin Like Me" is a sweet story in which readers are introduced to a richly diverse colony of penguins. Each penguin is different and has a unique personality. Everyone can be themselves in this welcoming and accepting community.

I really liked "A Penguin Like Me" and the cool illustrations. I loved how the story celebrates and finds strength in what makes us different and how those differences enhance a community.

Thanks again NorthSouth Books and NetGalley for the e-ARC to read in exchange for an honest review!

A Penguin Like Me is a lovely read that celebrates the differences of others. Every penguin is a penguin, even if there different. Marcus Pfister creates a beautiful community where every penguin is accepted for their differences, because their differences are actually their strengths.

A Penguin Like Me by Marcus Pfister is a wonderful children’s book about community and acceptance of others.

Even if all penguins in a colony look the same they are all different. In this beautiful story you will meet some that are smaller while others are good at drawing. A female penguin loves another female while another penguin is smarter than the others.

All penguins have fears, strengths, qualities, desires and dreams but together they form a community.

The pictures are lovely and colourful. The setting is an icy landscape where all penguins can be themselves.

Great message of acceptance of others no matter what their differences are. This book should be in every library and home.

Thank you NetGalley and NorthSouth for the ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.

What a great children's book to help explain that we are all different and unique in our own ways - yet all pengins. I love the illustrations and descriptions in this book and how it really does demonstrate many human characteristics in each of these penguins. It starts off by showing one penguin who is new to the colony and wonders if he will be accepted. Then it looks at other members of the colony and explains why each is unique. It finally ends with the new penguin feeling like he will be accepted into the group knowing everyone is different.

This book is really great for any school aged child - especially one with special needs - to help them feel they are accepted and just like everyone else. Because everyone is unique and everyone has differences - but we are all still humans.

This is a fun, entertaining story about penguins and how they are all unique. The lessons that are learned in this book can easily translate into a child's life--everyone is different, everyone has talent, and that's what makes a community work best. The illustrations are adorable. This is something that can be enjoy by kids and parents alike.

Thank you NetGalley and Gelsey White -- Marketing Coordinator NorthSouth Books, Inc., for the opportunity to read and review A Penguin Like Me.

"Marcus Pfister paints a colorful picture of a society in which all individuals can be who they want to be."

The illustrations are simple, the color palette is pleasing to my eye, and I often found the scenes pretty.

The story felt long. The various character narratives were choppy leaving me wanting to know just a little more about them.

My biggest problem were the couple of statements regarding gender being somewhere between male and female. While I prefer gender topics to be done respectfully and privately, the author owed the reader an explanation of penguin science or personal opinion. The author missed the mark of an inclusive society.

A Penguin Like Me is a very cute book, with beautiful illustrations, made to let children (and adults!) understand that we are all different from one another.

And it's our differences that not only make us unique but that also allow us to form a diverse and constantly evolving society.

The book is about acceptance, not in spite of someone's differences, but because of them. How we can all complement one another in a peaceful community and society.

I would say however that this book is probably better suited for children above the age of 10 or so, due to the complexity of some of the words and the overall message.

But still, it's important to teach everyone from a very young age to accept others for who they are.

After all... How dull would the world be if we were all alike?

I love the illustrations in this book and the subtle and not so subtle differences between the penguins.

I do feel that the text was too long for a picture book, and although I love the ideas the text is trying to relay, small children will lose interest.

A Penguin Like Me is an adorable children's picture book that teaches diversity to children in a way that is easy for them to understand. The story is written nicely, easy to follow along with and the illustrations are adorable. Great read for kids of all ages.

This book will be a great addition to our Antarctica unit this year. My students last year LOVED learning about penguins when we studied the continent of Antarctica, and this book will be so fun to share with them this year. The art was cute and simple, and I like the different personalities and skills that were described through various types of penguins.

A Penguin Like Me is a lovely book that teaches diversity to children in an easy to understand story. It's nicely written, easy to understand and has great meaning. The best way to teach acceptance is to teach children while they are young. After all...a penguin is a penguin and a person is a person.

Beautifully illustrated book with lots of text (I mean, not lots but more than I expected for a picture book) about a colony of penguins. Lots of blues and subtle colors. Text on the e-copy I had was quite small. I would have appreciated a short page of facts about penguins or the specific colony the author took inspiration from.
The idea of the book is that even they the mostly all look the same and are part of the same group, they each have unique characteristics that make them a valuable member. Whether that’s different color hair or quietness or artistic abilities, each has a place in the penguin society. Families and groups of friends are shown. All penguins are male or female, but there’s a specific note at the end that penguin sex cannot be determined from external appearance alone. There’s a female penguin that “likes” another penguin female as well.
Overall, I think it’s a lighthearted read for kids that enjoy birds or penguins and could be a good starting point for discussing some deeper topics of differences, acceptance, etc.
