Michael O, Bookseller
This is a fast, fun read. It's like a Sax Rohmer book without the sadism and racism. In fact, the heroes are Chinese. The Nayland Smith cognate is Dee Ren Jie, a Chinese Judge, detective, and martial artist. Like Smith, he has a chronicler/assistant, in this case a young University lecturer named Lao She. Together they race around 1924 London trying to solve murders and prevent them. There's enough action, mystery, and humor to keep the pages flying.
