This book was different than I was expecting. I was expecting a thriller and it was more of a crime novel. A crime novel with a thriller elements so it was the best of both worlds. My favorite character was Andi, the FBI agent. She knows how to handle people to get the information she needs and she doesn’t stop until the case is solved. The ending was not what I was expecting at all and it fit the book perfectly. A great read!!!
THE WEDDING PARTY by LR Jones (Lisa Renee Jones) is the second instalment in the author’s contemporary, adult, mystery-thriller, suspense series.
Told from several first person perspectives including Carrie Reynolds, and FBI profiler Andrea ‘Andi’ Castle, THE WEDDING PARTY follows in the aftermath of the murder of the intended groom. FBI profiler Andi Castle has been invited to a destination bachelor/bachelorette party by a friend but Andi doesn’t know the bride and groom, and discovers not everyone is happy with the unexpected guest list. A weekend to rest and relax ends with the groom-to-be’s murder, and Agent Andi Castle finds herself deep into an investigation with secrets and surprises she never saw coming. With everyone a suspect, attorneys begin to shut down the interviews, as Andi and her team dig deeper into the possibilities and back stories of everyone involved.
The world building follows several paths including the mindset of both Agent Andi Castle, and and the victim’s fiancee Carrie Reynolds. We are up close and personal as Andi struggles to remain open minded, while everyone else points the finger at the only potential suspect. As the story begins to unravel, Andi begins to focus on someone else.
There is a large ensemble cast of secondary and supporting characters most of whom have their own story to tell. From the groomsmen to the bridesmaids, there is a history of secrets and possible betrayal leading to any number of scenarios for murderous revenge.
THE WEDDING PARTY is a story of secrets and lies, betrayal and vengeance, power and control, madness and murder. The premise is intriguing, dramatic and captivating but there was some redundancy and repetition; the characters are dynamic and desperate.

What a great introduction to LR Jones! She is a new author to me and this book grabbed me and held me. The premise of a bachelor/bachelorette weekend provides the setting for murder. An FBI agent who appeared to be a peripheral character becomes the main character who is trying to catch a killer. This book provided intrigue, twists and turns and an ending I could not have imagined! I really enjoyed this book and will be looking for more of this author’s work.
I enjoyed this book a lot. The characters were well thought out and well written. The story was good, with plenty of red herrings and surprises along the way. It has some whodunit vibes of old. Fun read!
Thanks to NetGalley and the author for the opportunity to read this book.
This story held my interest all the way through. It’s Carrie’s and Oliver’s wedding party and things do not go well! There’s a lot of mystery, intrigue and suspense. The twists and turns just kept getting more interesting. The characters are interesting. Some are likable, some, not so much!! This is a great psychological thriller.
Thank you Netgalley, Thomas & Mercer & L R Jones for the ARC of this book!
This was a super quick and entertaining read. It was intriguing from the start and I enjoyed the multiple POVs and the slow burn nature of the hunt for the truth.
The characters were well developed and seemed as though there were multiple shrouded in secrets, so it was an excellent way to get us to suspect everyone.
The plot itself was great and I find it enjoyable when friends are suspected as Foes.
Overall this was an excellent read from this new to me author. It was twisted and unexpected with an enjoyable plot, great character exploration and a satisfying ending. I'll be looking out for more from this author in the future!
The Wedding Party was sadly very lackluster. I didn't find the story or the characters enjoyable whatsoever. The writing style was rough and it seemed like maybe the book wasn't ready to be published yet.
Two hot, successial, and medium rich people are getting married. Homegirl keeps calling her fiance "prince charming" and talking about her fairy tale life. It is cringe.
But don't worry - that isn't the only perspective. We have an FBI agent attending the wedding party. The rooms re supposed to be haunted and maybe the groom is a mobster.
I love the setting and all of the drama. I can't wait to read the next one!
The Wedding Party by L. R. Jones is a mystery thriller book where a weekend of celebration goes completely wrong. A haunted hotel, a beautiful couple, a combo bachelor/bachelorette party, and their close friends with them. What could go wrong?
Carrie and Oliver are looking forward to their upcoming nuptials. One of Carrie's friends invites Andrea Castle, an FBI agent, to come along with her for the weekend. The agent is on leave and wants to relax, but it turns out that law enforcement is never on break.
I am mostly neutral about this book. My rating is rounded to 3 from 2.5. I was able to finish it because I really wanted to know the ending. The constant repetitive sentences and references to past cases of both Andrea and her father repeatedly were too much. This is not a series, so constant reference kind of is a distraction from the present story. I feel that there were a lot of loose ends before the story came to a finish.
Thank you, Thomas & Mercer, for this book.
CW: Blood, misogyny, objectification, ptsd, panic attacks
I loved the premise and was excited to read the book. I found parts of it to be a bit confusing, especially towards the end. The pacing was a bit slow at times and felt like the book could have used a bit more editing. Overall, I enjoyed the story and writing.
The Wedding Party is a thriller set in Estes Park where the groom-to-be is murdered.
The premise of the story, honestly, felt great to me. The couple have a combined bachelor/bachelorette party at the Stanley Hotel where everyone is on high alert due to all the “ghost” stories said to happen there. I mean, it is the location which inspired Stephen King to write The Shining. But instead of seeing ghosts, the night ends in murder.
The story is incredibly fast-paced. I was able to essentially read the whole story in 2 sittings. The chapters are short, and the transitions between POVs is smooth. Although there are a few suspects within the story, I had figured out who the killer was early on, but was curious enough to see how the author was going to play it out.
While I really enjoyed the story, the ending was incredibly rushed. There was definitely some weak dialogue throughout the book, and I definitely hope there was more editing from the ARC edition I was provided from NetGalley. (The editing did not affect my rating. Only content was factored into that.)
Overall, the book was enjoyable. I would definitely still recommend others read this as well, especially a finalized copy. Anyone looking for a fast read with some mystery would most likely devour this one.
FBI Agent Andi is looking forward to some downtime when she attends Carrie and Oliver's celebration party. But when a body is found, Andi is forced back into work mode and on the hunt for a killer. I loved the dual POVs in this fast paced thriller and really thought I'd figured it out only to be proven wrong at the end. A fun twisted read, I thoroughly recommend!
I have been reading books by Lisa Renee Jones for years. She never disappoints. Even though most of her books are romances, she also writes incredible thrillers as her alter ego L.R. Jones. The Wedding Party is no exception. An extravagant bachelor/bachelorette party weekend takes place at the infamous Stanley Hotel in Estes Park, Colorado.
FBI Agent Andrea (Andi) Castle is beautiful, smart, and a workaholic. When a murder occurs at a weekend long bachelor/bachelorette party that she is attending, and nothing is what it seems.
Carrie Reynolds has met the man of her dreams. An ER nurse by profession, she has a beautiful and caring personality that seems too perfect.
Oliver Phoenix and his family are the definition of wealth. He is a loving and caring man that wants to protect the heart of his fiancé, especially after he learns a secret from her past.
The characters I’ve mentioned above are the three main characters but there are other characters that play a vital role in The Wedding Party. From the guests to law enforcement, each additional character brings their own personality which helps create plenty of plot twists that will keep the reader engaged and second guessing who did the crime.
I highly recommend The Wedding Party. It’s fast paced, engaging, and full of suspense. The plot and characters are well written and truly bring the story to life. A definite must read.
There was something about the cover of The Wedding Party by L. R. Jones that intrigued me and lured me in!
Once I started, I was instantly drawn into the story because of the characters. This is a dual point of view with perspectives from both bride-to-be Carrie and FBI agent Andi, and the story had my full attention! Andi is now one of my all-time favourite characters; I loved her!
This was a quick read, but it's a bit of a slow burn, with the action really ramping up towards the end. Short chapters continuously move the story along, although they never ended on the typical cliffhanger ever present in thrillers. Even still, I sped through this book since I just had to find out who the killer was! I really enjoyed seeing how the different agencies all worked together to solve the murder case.
My only complaint is that the ending wrapped up quicker than the rest of the book; although it was still a fulfilling conclusion, I just wish it didn't happen quite so quickly!
This one hinges on nature vs. nurture theme wise, and reads like crime fiction, but with the added narrative of a novel. Highly recommend!
Thank you NetGalley and Thomas & Mercer for the complimentary copy to read and review.
The Wedding Party is a psychological suspense thriller.
It alternates between two female POVs. Bride to be and nurse Carrie. And FBI agent Andi Castle.
Carrie and her soon to be husband Oliver host a Bachelor/Bachelorette weekend at a famous haunted hotel. Andi goes to the event with her friend Lana (Lana is Carrie's co-worker).
There is a mystery that occurs during the weekend. And it was super fun to try to figure it out (as well as a bunch of other unanswered questions).
I love that we get two female narrators. I enjoy reading about FBI Profilers. And I really enjoyed Andi as a character. I also found Carrie to be very intriguing.
Overall this was a quick enjoyable read full of very fun reveals.
I want more Agent Andi Castle! This is hands down the best story this author has written! The suspense, the action, the multiple points of view. It all combines to give readers a tension filled book that keeps you questioning EVERYTHING.
This is the first book I’ve read by this author, and the premise really intrigued me. I found myself flying through the book and not realizing how much time had past.
The fact that the chapters were short made the time go by extra quick.
I enjoyed reading from both Carrie and Andi’s points of view. I liked that Andi was an FBI profiler, I found it very interesting hearing her inner thoughts on people.
Overall I enjoyed this read a lot and would love to read more by this author. I thought it was a quick mysterious read, just what I wanted.
This book was not near as edited as it should have been for the point in the process that it was at. DNF @ 22%. This book was just not it - at all.. I hate to be a hater, but i could not bring myself to finish this book. It is horribly edited and the storyline is not captivating enough to make it worth it.
Holy cow, how this book flew by! There are so many people who are so shifty and hiding secrets and it was an obsession of mine to find out the killer in this book.
I really liked Andi, the FBI agent who gets involved in a murder at a wedding party where she barely knows Lana anymore, who invited her. Her dad is an interesting side character too that I enjoyed.
The manipulations of so many characters just kept my eyes riveted to the page for the few hours it took me to read it.
Carrie and Oliver have invited their closest friends to a pre-wedding weekend at the Stanley Hotel. Something with Oliver has seemed off recently, ever since a mysterious box showed up, but Carrie is determined to have a great weekend away.
FBI Agent Andi Castle has just closed a major case and her friend convinces her to be her plus-one for the weekend. Andi figures a weekend away will do her good, a weekend without working. That is, until there’s a murder and Andi slips back into work mode.
With the hotel on lockdown, Andi knows that she’s up against the clock to figure out who the killer is. For now, everyone is a suspect.
I really enjoyed this novel and will be recommending it to others!
