The Rose Reaper is dead. Kate saw him die. But someone else has picked up his mantle and is stalking her. The one that got away. A good tension filled, suspense plot with enough twists to hold my interest. There are some scenes that should be mentioned as triggers. This is the second book in this series. I did not read the first book, but had no problem considering this a standalone. Thank you to Netgalley and Thomas & Mercer for the early copy. Review is my honest opinion.
I missed the first book but was fine with this as a standalone. Wasn't a fan of the violence against women but Hunter has created good characters and the novel is well paced. Thanks to netgalley for the ARC. For fans of the genre.
First of all, I wasn’t aware there was a book 1 so I had to read that and finish that quick.. And wow, that book was good AND this book was just everything!!! It is an absolute page turner and filled with so many twists (that I love)!!!
Thank you NetGalley for an advanced copy in exchange for my honest review!!!
Please check for trigger warnings before reading.

Wow just wow!!!!
I had to read the first book in the series and smashed that in a day, onto book 2 and it didn't disappoint. What a ride Jennifer takes you on in the second instalment of Ryan Strickland.
Very much loving this new series and cannot wait for book 3
Fair warning this book has some graphic content and should come with a trigger warning.
The Rose Reaper is the second book in the Ryan Strickland series due to be published March 5th, 2024.
This book definitely needs a disclaimer in the beginning. this book can be read as a standalone there are references to the first book and case. It was a good case so l'd recommend starting there. Just because an alleged perp is dead, one witness /victim statement is not reasons to stop digging deep into the investigation & go your own way for an organization. Seeing things from the murderers point of view gave a different insight.
Thank you Netgalley , publisher and Jennifer Hunter.
I didn't realise the book was the second in a serie and I have NOT read the first book. That being said, I didn't find it difficult to get into the book. It was a very interesting read if you have no triggers (I have none).
Thanks to Netgalley and Thomas & Mercer for access to this arc in exchange for my honest review.
I struggled with this book, but overall I think the writing was done well. I didn't particularly like the level of graphic violence or the way the timing jumped around in the beginning. It was still a decent thriller and I think others would enjoy it.
What a creepy book! I didn't know that it was part of series when I got it read. While I probably would have understood a few things better I could read it not having read the others. I'll seek out the books that came before this one. If you like get under your skin creepy then think about this series!
Three years ago, Kate Doyle escaped a serial killer who died at the hands of her rescuers. FBI consultant and psychologist Ryan Strickland helped Kate rebuild her life, and the case was closed on the Rose Reaper’s seven victims—the six who were killed and Kate, the one who got away. Today, Kate has a good man in her life, a secure job, and hope. But her dreams for the future become a nightmare when a copycat killer starts hunting. One by one, with each new body, comes a gift for Kate: a single red rose. And then the warning: See you soon.
If clues to his identity are buried in Kate’s memories, Ryan can unearth them. As they dig into Kate’s traumatic past, they’d better work fast. Because someone is finishing what the Rose Reaper started—and he’s hell-bent on making sure that this time, the seventh victim doesn’t get away
Thank you to NetGalley and Thomas and Mercer for giving me an advance copy.
The first book was good but this bookbis even better!!! I was on edge the whole time reading this until the end! It was absolutely perfect. It was absolutely gripping! The book you wanna read but not at night by yourself.
I just reviewed The Rose Reaper by Jennifer Hunter. #TheRoseReaper #NetGalley

Jennifer Hunter keeps the reader guessing in this page turner. Realistic character keep the story moving quickly. THE ROSE REAPER...what a title...Imagine all those words bring to mind. What is a rose reaper? Who is the rose reaper? Do not try to guess too early because red herrings will prevent the "real" answer. This talented author does not disappoint in this novel which would make an interesting movie for television. That being said, the story is difficult to read at times. Some of the language… Curl up in front of a blazing warm fire and try to determine the answer...Thanks Netgalley.
Thanks to NetGalley for the arc!
This was sooo good! Easily a favorite out of my recent reads. So much so I went to get her first book and follow her on Amazon when I finished! This had a great plot, was fast paced and so many twists along the way. It had me guessing almost the whole time and I hadn’t figured it out by the reveal. I had ideas of who I thought it WASN’T, but no solid ideas of who it would be. Easily a 5 star read for me. 10/10 recommend!!
Wow!! Lots of twists and turns. Very intense. Read it in 2 days. I look forward to reading more from the author
In The Rose Reaper by Jennifer Hunter, the second installment of the Ryan Strickland series, the narrative unfolds with gripping intensity as survivor Kate Doyle's hard-earned peace is shattered by a copycat killer emulating the notorious Rose Reaper. FBI consultant Ryan Strickland, instrumental in Kate's recovery, reenters the scene to prevent history from repeating itself. While the book delivers an intense and suspenseful thriller with a compelling exploration of Kate's psychological struggles, it is not without its flaws. Inconsistencies in the initial investigation and character depth detract from the overall narrative cohesion, but Hunter's skillful exploration of Kate's memories and the collaborative effort to unveil the copycat killer's identity showcases the author's ability to construct a captivating psychological thriller. The sensitive depiction of sexual assault may impact readers differently, making it crucial for potential readers to consider their comfort level with explicit content. Despite its imperfections, The Rose Reaper offers a relentless and riveting narrative that fearlessly delves into the darkest recesses of the human psyche.

It's too late for you.
Kate Doyle attempts to rebuild her life after escaping from a serial killer in the woods. A copy cat serial killer taunts her with roses on her property marking her as his 7th victim after a string of women's bodies are found in rivers. As the investigations ensues, detectives find evidence that Kate's new boyfriend might not be the sweet guy she thinks he is. As the case intensifies, investigators question if Kate's boyfriend is their killer or is he being set up to take the fall.
Jennifer Hunt's, The Rose Reaper, is a turn pager from the first chapter. Kate's desire to live a normal life after being held captive makes readers hope that she can find happiness. Through its many twists and turns, readers will question Kate's boyfriend image of too good to be true. I enjoyed this book tremendously as it kept me on edge second guessing Kate's boyfriends involvement in the murders. This is a great read for those looking for thrillers.
In the beginning I must admit I didn’t vibe with this book. There was nothing wrong with it but I had just finished reading something that was so similar and I felt it was an inferior copy. That said, I put it down and only picked it back up again on the 28th of December. Managed to finish 90% of the book in 1 day. Although it had similarities to a book I had read it very much went on a different tangent and I began to really enjoy this thriller. I loved the character of Kate, although at times I did find her somewhat contradictory. And I really enjoyed the character of Ryan the psychologist. I did not realise this was the second book in the series so at one stage I had him pegged as the killer, suffice to say he is not and that is not a spoiler. I would recommend this book and I will probably seek out the first in this series as the writing flowed well, was easy to read and follow and the character development was mostly done well. I gave this book a solid 4 stars, although somewhat predictable it was still an enjoyable read.
Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC copy of this book in exchange for this honest review.
Please note: This book contains sexual assault and describes it explicitly. I received ARC of this book and a warning was not provided but hopefully it is added when released.
I have many thoughts about this book, book 2 in the Ryan Strickland series, after having read book 1. I will start off by saying I liked that there was multiple point of views in comparison to book 1. Having said that I had a lot of difficulties getting through this book. There was a lot of character, time frame, and police procedural inconsistencies. These issues made me snap out of the story a lot and take many pauses. There was not enough research in professions and law enforcement investigations that if there had been would have made for a more plausible plot.
This being book 2 in a series I expected to get to know the MC a lot better. After finishing the book I left with more questions than answers about who the MC is. There is a lot of inconsistencies in who this MC is and what he actually does. For example he is brought in and is known for making victims/witnesses talk but then he profiles suspects? With no law enforcement background or even military background he can scope out vantage points that the FBI hadn't thought of ? He is a consulted but goes out in the field alone?
I thought book one had a good start to a series but found this book lacking in a lot of ways.
I hate starting a series in the middle, even if they “can be stand read as a stand alone story.” When I found this book, I didn't realize it was the second in a series (though the first one was on KU so I lucked out and read both). I am so glad i did. I wasn’t quite sure how I felt about the first one, but toward the end I was so ready for this one!
For me, the Rose Reaper was a very quick read and I am so ready for the next one (hopefully)! I think the outcome could be called slightly predictable, but I will say there were a few “clues” that threw me off track and kept me guessing. The 2 main suspects were, in my opinion, the obvious ones, HOWEVER there were very slight things that kept me bouncing between who I thought was the killer.
Wasn’t sure about this book for the first chapter because of the detail. Really pleased I read I loved it. Kate had just settled back into a life and was trusting people only to be propelled back into fear and distrust. This time she had people on her side to protect her but will it be enough. Met me guessing and I just live Ryan’s character
This is the 2nd book in the Ryan Strickland series.
I read the first book before this in order to properly review the books.
I really enjoyed this book. I always enjoy a good series with a new crime to solve, and some ongoing story to keep me sucked in.
4 stars for me
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for allowing me to read this ARC
