When reading the reviews of Daniel Hurst's books on Goodreads, it becomes quite clear that a lot of readers are big fans of his books.
My Husband's Mistake is the second book I have listened to by the author and I am still trying to figure out all the hype. Or maybe I still haven't read those books that have made him so popular.
I agree that both his books that I have read were fast paced but they were also very predictable and the blurb of My Husband's Mistake nearly gives the entire story away. The audiobook narration was good and kept up with the pace of the book, although I did find the female narrator's voice annoying whenever she read Lorna's parts.
I received an ALC of the book from the publisher Bookouture and the author via NetGalley.

Good read.
My husband made a terrible mistake. Now our children are missing… his should be the trip of a lifetime – a week in New York with my family. As we stroll along the Hudson River, drinking coffee in the sunshine, anyone would think we’re the perfect family. But the truth is far more complicated. I’ve been on edge the whole time because fifteen years ago when we were living in this city my husband Jack did something that ripped our lives apart. I swore I would never come back here, but Jack insisted. One afternoon, in the blur of a crowd, I lose sight of my son. I can’t find him anywhere. Frantic, I call my husband. But what he tells me next shakes me to the core… My daughter’s gone missing too.
I end the conversation, my whole body shaking with fear. As I’m desperately searching for my children, the phone rings – it’s an anonymous number. The hard voice at the other end gives me an ultimatum: kill my husband or my children will die.
Thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture Audio for giving me an advance copy in exchange for an honest review.
I don't want to give to much away since its a thriller. But I will say if you read the description it gives away 90% of the plot of the book. So I knew what was going to happen for the most part except for a part once we got there I'm like ooo ok.
But this is a super fast book to read. I will be giving this author another read.
Thanks to Netgalley for the audio-arc in exchange for my honest opinion!
The story didn't engage me like most of his books I'm afraid. The story lacked something for me - probably I felt like I wasn't bothered about the characters - who was killed etc. Liked the twist at the end. Listened to the whole book in one go driving from Scotland to Wales
Hurst definitely knows how to write a revenge based thriller, and this one did not disappoint. I listened to the audiobook read by Tamsin Kennard and Nathaniel Priestley, and they both did a great job. I love that he uses a full-cast for his audiobooks! That makes them more enjoyable for me.
This books moves quickly, and we are thrown into the drama right away. I was entertained the whole ride, while trying to figure out what was going to happen. I love the high level of drama and suspense building, while anxiously awaiting the ending. The ending did not disappoint! There were twists and turns throughout, and I was not expecting everything that happened at the end.
Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture Audio for this ALC in exchange for my honest review.
Daniel Hurst is a master at writing quick thrillers that will keep you hanging on every word. I adore listening to his books on audio.
Narrated by Tamsin Kennard and Nathaniel Priestley, two of my favourite audiobook narrators as their tone flows and is conversational which makes it easy to follow along as if I’m right there in the story with them.
Lorna and Jack lived in New York until 15 years ago. Jack made a grave mistake and they fled New York with their children, moved back to the UK and vowed to never return.
Now, 15 years later their children, Maddie and Alex are turning 21 and 18 and want nothing except to go on vacation to New York to see where they lived so many years ago. With a lot of reluctance Jack and Lorna agree and the family heads to New York.
Not long after arriving, Maddie and Alex are abducted. Can Lorna and Jack beat the clock to get their children back safely while not exposing to the police what happened all those years ago?
Not a particularly unique plot but we’ll done and very entertaining nonetheless. I always enjoy Hurst’s audiobooks and am looking forward to the next.
Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture Audio for a copy of this audiobook.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC.
Good book by Hurst. I love Hurst’s books. Theyre always full of surprises and suspense. This one was great. Good job by narrator.
This wasn't what I expected and turned out...fine. Her husband's actual secret isn't what you probably think it will be, and sadly it was less exciting and salacious that other Daniel Hurst scandals. This storyline takes place overseas in NYC, with the husband and wife taking their new adult children there as a graduation gift. This trip is couched in the parents' mysterious and hasty escape from New York years early during the '08 financial crisis. Mom and dad won't speak up about why they are so scared to return to the city that doesn't sleep, but instead take the kids there despite their fears. Of course things go sideways and they make questionable decisions, especially considering the intense worry and anxiety they had prior to the trip. The best part was the last 10%, when shit hit the fan and the characters go there; didn't think it would happen, but of course it did. While this ended in a crazy way, it just didn't hit like other books I've read by Hurst.
It should be noted--There are some important trigger topics to look into if you are affected by sensitive topics.
Thank you to NetGalley for offering me an audiobook of Daniel Hurst’s Her Husband’s Mistake.
I originally received this as an audiobook (requested by mistake) but had no means to listen to it, so I did not leave a review.
I have since read the book so I will review it as such.
What should be the trip of a lifetime to New York for Lorna, Jack, and their two children, Maddy and Alex, turns into a nightmare.
Fifteen years before, Jack had done something terrible, and Lorna swore she would never go back. Her children, though, want this trip very badly.
When her two children go missing, Lorna receives a phone call asking her to kill her husband or her children will die.
Daniel Hurst is one of my absolute favorite authors – his books always have a twist, are a fast read, and keep my interest – this one was no different.
I read this book in a couple days – I could not wait to find out if Lorna got her children returned or killed her husband!
This is one that will keep you guessing until the end – a “page turner”.
Another great book from Daniel Hurst!

I am a fan of Daniel Hurst and I believe this is his second or third book that connects the UK to the US. As always, this one was a fast paced easy read with a solid ending! Keep them coming DH and I'll keep reading :)
Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for the ADC!
A very quick and entertaining thriller with a lot of surprising twists! The narrators of the audiobook did a great job and kept it fast paced. Thank you to Netgalley, the author and the publisher for a chance to read and review this book in exchange for an honest review.
A short listen with lots of drama and twists and been left open for a sequel. A nice solid thriller. It’s a race against time with likeable characters that you find yourself rooting for
Lorna and Jack lived in New York many years ago for work, then something happened so they came back to England. Now 15 years later their children are 21 and 18 and they want the trip of a lifetime back to New York where they spent some of their childhood. Both parents are reluctant but agree. It isn’t long after they arrive that both children go missing, Is it a coincidence or a plot of revenge?
I love Daniel Hurst’s books, he writes in a way that has you gripped from the beginning and keeps you captured right to the very end and this book had everything I would expect, secrets, suspense and an end that leaves your jaw on the ground.
This book is something that I think would be every parent’s worst nightmare, children going missing, no matter what age the children are. Especially when in a city they do not know, to what extremes would you take to get your children back?
This was told in several POVs and the narrators did a fantastic job of drawing me into the story completely.
I listened to this in one sitting because I needed to know what would happen and when I got to the end I was floored. I did not expect it!
I would recommend this to all my friends who like psychological thrillers!
Her Husbands Mistake
By Daniel Hurst
So I am finding myself to be a fan of Daniel Hurst’s stories.
This is a story of parent’s nightmares. You take your teenage kids on a vacation to different country and they disappear. Why would someone take their children? As the secrets come out from a past Jack and Lorna ran back home to England from, they realize they never should have made this trip.
I really enjoyed this story, Daniel has done it again, thank you!!
I read listened to this book on audio and I loved it, listened to it all in one day.
The narrators were superb and really added to the storyline. I loved the level of tension the whole way through, real edge of your seat stuff.
I listened to the audio version and really enjoyed it. It had a unique storyline with plenty of twists and turns. The narrators did a great job and I would definitely recommend this book
I always enjoy Daniel Hurst's thrillers and this book was no exception. Kept me guessing until the very end.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Her Husband's Mistake was a great read by Daniel Hurst. Lorna's husband, Jack, made a terrible mistake fifteen years ago. It has lead to their children, Maddie and Alex, now missing. They are on a week long trip in New York and they find themselves in their own living hell. After they left New York fifteen years ago, they vowed never to return. But Jack insisted for their daughters birthday. While frantically searching for her children, Lorna gets a call from an anonymous number. They voice on the other end tells her to either kill her husband or her childre will die. I enjoyed reading this book and cant wait to read more by the author.

Daniel Hurst delivers a quickly addictive domestic suspense set in New York City. An English couple take their adult children on vacation to NYC and when the children go missing, the clock is tocming to find them. The chapters alternate between POVs and you begin to uncover the secrets that have led to their taking. This book was suspenseful and absolutely shocking once the end came. I love Daniel Hurst for his quick reads and great story telling. I definitely recommend.

The audiobook was great! There were multiple narrators with beautiful English accents so I listened at 1.25x speed. There was great emotion from the narrators and you could hear the pain and distress in the story. I definitely recommend on audio!
Thank you to NetGalley, Daniel Hurst and Bookouture Audio for an ALC!
The narrators did a perfect job for this book, it made me enjoy the book even more with the dual pov.
Such a good psychological thriller
