What would you do if your husband messed up in a big way? Would you stand by him, or leave and let him face the consequences? Hurst asks us to ponder just that question.
The characters are flawed and selfish, but also fiercely loyal and devoted: a complex mess which Hurst is fond of. The request seems simple: visit NY after a decade away. But when the secret could destroy your life would you still go? For some asinine reason, these parents say yes and ruin lives all over again. Read it and be carried along in the sublime chaos.
A great listen with lots of twists and turns that keep you on your toes till the end
Something happened in New York 15 years ago causing the parents to flee back to England with their young children
But when the children reach 18 & 21 and are asked what they want to celebrate the only thing they want is a family holiday to New York surely they will be safe now
Thanks to Netgalley for allow me the chance to listen to this audio book
Her Husband's Mistake by Daniel Hurst. I probably shouldn't have read this book while getting ready for a family trip to NYC BUT wow was this book GOOD! This was the first book I have read by this author but it will not be the last! This book was unputdownable and I loved every page of it! The narrator was perfect! Thanks Bookouture Audio and NetGalley for the ARC!
It's no secret that I adore Daniel Hurst's books, particularly the audiobooks. They are so gripping, engaging and I can't stop listening.
This is another Hurst book that is narrated by Tamsin Kennard, and was thoroughly enjoyable. Kennard has such a lovely voice, almost conversational in her narration and it makes you hang on to her every word.
The plot is interesting to begin with- certainly some intrigue into why the parents are so hesitant to go back to New York for a visit after they lived there some years before.
I loved the ending. I gasped at the developments.
Another fantastic audiobook.
Daniel is quickly becoming one of my favorite mystery authors! He had me internally screaming and wondering “what happened in New York”!!!
Loved the perspective from the kids and adults. And loved the narration!
Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for he ARC.
This is a quick mystery read for me.
I thought the characters were okay, and I had to suspend disbelief that the older kids weren’t aware of stranger dangers or the parents never discussed such things with their kids to be so trusting.
The ending was a nice surprise. I don’t want to elaborate- I don’t want to give any spoilers but it was nice to see and it leaves an opening for a sequel.
The narrators, Tamsin Kennard, and Nathaniel Priestley were great. They kept me engaged throughout the story. They both used a variety of tones and inflections. I felt like they portrayed the characters well.
This was a slow burn for me…the build up to the big secret they were keeping made me think it wasn’t going to be that big of a deal but it actually was a pretty big secret. The twist at the end left me feeling flat and not as hyped up as I normally am when reading this author. The character who I least suspected turned out to be pretty savage but still not a favorite book for me. Thank you for the arc NetGalley!
This author has become one of my favorite change of pace listens. Quick, entertaining books with lots of twists I never see coming. Have you read him?
In this one a family used to live in NYC and moved back to England after an unmentioned incident. The family is going back to visit and as you can guess, their unmentioned incident threatens to disrupt their trip.
Tamsin Kennard and Nathaniel Priestley do a great job narrating this book. They, along with the story, make the main characters relatable and likable and kept me guessing what their incident could be.
Another great popcorn thriller listen by Daniel Hurst. I’ll keep the details light to make sure I don’t spoil anything and I’d even suggest avoiding reading about this one to keep the twists a surprise.
If you are looking for a quick, fast paced listen, I’d recommend to us one!
This thriller asks the question what would you do? Your husband does something that will affect your family forever. Do you stand by him? Should you risk returning to the scene of the crime? So many questions that have answers with life-altering ramifications are sprinkled throughout this fast-paced entertaining thriller. The final shocking twist was thought-provoking and original. This is another gripping Daniel Hurst creation that shouldn't be missed. The narrators expertly brought the characters to life while adding a layer of intrigue and realism. Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture Audio for my audiobook.

Daniel Hurst is the author of several bestselling psychological thrillers, including 'The Passenger,' 'We Used To Live Here,' and 'Til Death Do Us Part.' His books have been the #1 Psychological Thrillers in the UK and Australia and regularly feature in the Amazon Top 100 charts.
“If anything was going to happen, it would’ve happened by now.”
BESTIE! This book was wild. The number of times my jaw dropped is unreal. I cannot say it enough: the way Daniel creates a story is beyond brilliant.
The characters in this book- whew, boy! Privilege, ego, selfish, but also devoted and loving. I loved Lorna. She was fierce, loyal, caring, and unafraid to do what she had to do. This character was a mama bear, and her heart was always with her children.
Jack was a complicated character for me. He was charming but also selfish. He teetered back and forth with me. I liked him as a husband and father; he was devoted to his family. But he wasn’t a great person, which begs the question, was he a good husband and father?
The telling of this story is so fast and intense that it will take your brain a second to catch up. Hurst was not messing about with this one.
I loved the narrators. They brought this story to life and did a fantastic job giving everyone their voice and personality. Tamsin is easy to listen to; she has such a great tone.
I downloaded the book from Kindle Unlimited because I need to experience this insane story again. Daniel Hurst is a genius, and I am here for his brilliance.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Her Husband’s Mistake by Daniel Hurst, an audiobook narrated by Tamsin Kennard and Nathaniel Priestley was good, so good! This book is another fantastic read from this very talented author! Looks like he is making his way to my favorite author list! What I really loved about this book was how realistic the story was. I really enjoyed the dual narration of this book! The narrators did an amazing job of showing us a story from 4 points of view!
This story shows you how important is to take responsibility for your actions.
Fifteen years ago Jack did something terrible. Instead of taking responsibility, he convinced his wife Lorna to run and start a new life in England. And everything would be alright if not for their kid's birthday wish - NYC holiday!
How smart is it to return to the place that you once abandoned? Is fifteen years enough to escape consequences and enjoy the family holiday?
The final twist - well done!
Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture Audio for this audiobook!
In true Daniel Hurst fashion, this was a twisty and thrilling read/listen! I found myself immersed in the story and I didn’t want to stop!
I have something of a legal background. As a result, aspects of this book irritated me. The ending was definitely problematic for me as in the end, nothing is resolved. And I hate that.
Overall, I did enjoy the story. It was a well developed book, although I was a bit puzzled why a 20-year-old and an 18-year-old were acting like 12-year-olds. Regardless, the writing was good, the story engaging, and I would recommend it for it's mystery themed escapism.
Her Husband's Mistake is a a psychological thriller by Daniel Hurst. In short, a family takes a trip of a lifetime to New York City to celebrate some important birthdays when the past follows them there.
I found this book to be completely lacking a good story line or anything interesting. The first 5 to 6 paragraphs just described everyone's thoughts of New York City... Why do we need this information? It felt like a school assignment where you have to describe something using as many adjectives as possible. I almost gave up then but decided to keep trying. Everything seemed overly descriptive but there was not really any point to these descriptions whole chapters could have been done without. The climax of the story was rushed and I was left feeling like what, this all just happened in less than 3 paragraphs SERIOUSLY!!
The final chapter tried to be a shocker but honestly it had a very weak tie in to the whole story and at that point I just rolled my eyes and pushed through. Unfortunately only 2 stars from me.
Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC of this book.
The audiobook version of this book was entertaining. The narrators were great! This was my first Daniel Hurst novel and while it was a quick and easy listen, it isn't going to stick with me. There wasn't anything different or memorable about this particular story. It was an average thriller that I enjoyed, but wouldn't read again or recommend to a book friend.
Thanks to Bookouture Audio and NetGalley for the advanced listening opportunity in exchange for my honest opinion!
Daniel Hurst somehow continues to manage to deliver fast paced thrillers with well developed characters at an incredible speed. This one really gripped me from the beginning but I did find the ending a bit lackluster. The epilogue didn't seem as dramatic as I was waiting for and the ending also seemed a little lazy and unimaginative. I really liked the beginning of the story though and thought that the family was really fascinating. I would have liked them to be a bit more developed because they all seemed really interesting but for such a short read it was fine. Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for this advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.
Daniel Hurst's latest offering features a family's return to New York for their children's birthdays. The family haven't been to New York since something happened and they ran back to England. The children go missing and their parents are in a race against time to find them. With numerous things which you don't expect, this story hooks the attention to the last page. Another winner from Daniel. With thanks to the author and publisher for this advanced review copy.
Daniel Hurst can do no wrong in my eyes so yet again thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for an audio copy in reply for a reveiew.
This gripped me from the get go. Loved the charcters albeit the kids were somewhat annoyong at times! I had a long drive and I put this on and before i knew it we were there, book was done and nails bitten to the quick.
LOVED IT!
This was a really nice read as an audiobook. Great pace and good plot. Some unexpected twists and turns A nice read if you’re a commuter.
Daniel Hurst never disappoints. Her Husband's Mistake is no exception. What a mess with twists and turns. I never knew who to pull for. It was a fast read and truly enjoyable.
Thank you for the opportunity to listen to this book for my honest review.
