4.5 stars for me - extra half for that surprising epilogue!!
Honestly, Daniel Hurst is an auto read/listen author for me now. I've thoroughly enjoyed, been gripped by and lost in all of his books and this one was no exception. Very well written, perfectly narrated, the pace of the story was great and there has to be a book 2 now!!
I want to thank the author, NetGalley and Bookouture Audio
for the opportunity to listen to this terrific new book.

The first few chapter was mainly focus on New York, which is amazing. The ability to read what it is like to live and work there. But as the story goes , every part of the story go round circles. Focusing on what her husband done .
When it comes to the part it’s says that he was the reason of the accident I know already that there is hiding something on the story .
The last part was abit blur , I don’t understand anything about it. Just plain mystery thriller, can be for a young adult .

This is a gripping standalone psychological thriller from Daniel Hurst, superbly narrated by Tamsin Kennard and Nathaniel Priestley, talented British actors to whom anyone who listens to a lot of audiobooks will instantly be familiar. The superb plot and writing are really brought to life in this fantastic collaboration.
The plot involves a family of 4. Parents Jack and Lorna reluctantly agree to go on a mini break to New York with their coming of age offspring, Maddy and Alex. Having their early childhoods in New York, Maddy and Alex are keen to return, while the extreme reluctance of their parents is an immediate red flag suggesting that the family's previous life in the Big Apple was not as idyllic as the children believe. A second red flag is Lorna's absolute instance the her children do not post images from the trip on social media. It won't be much of a spoiler to suggest that Lorna's apparent paranoia is justified.....
As the plot thickens it becomes clear that the families swift relocation back to England some 15 years earlier was due to 'the husbands secret', and this secret is clearly something Lorna and Jack fear retribution from.... At this point I am zipping my mouth and just encouraging would be listeners to click that 'download now' button and relax in the knowledge that they will be thoroughly entertained for the duration!
This is a great read/listen that comes, not only with delightfully shocking rollercoaster of a plot but also a fantastic epilogue that offers its own delicious surprises!
My thanks to NetGalley, author and publisher for the opportunity to review this audiobook in exchange for an advance copy.
I listened to the audiobook version of this book and thoroughly enjoyed it.
There were enough twists and turns to keep me hooked although the final scenes are somewhat confusing and not believable. And a surprise ending!
Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for letting me review this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.
Maddie and Alex will definitely have an unforgettable holiday but not what their mother was hoping for when a long kept secret turns into a Mother's nightmare.
Great character building up and the twist at the end was spectacular!
Loved listening to this audio book. Really liked that there was a female and male reading corresponding chapters. Thrill seekers will enjoy this quick read or listen. :-)
A family holiday to New York, celebrating their children’s milestone birthdays (18 & 21) goes horribly wrong for Jack and Lorna. The children wanted to see the city where they grew up and reluctantly, the couple agree. At separate events, the children go missing. They both fear the worst, knowing the true reason why they fled New York and scared it has come back to bite them.
Mainly told from the parents point of view, the secrets they hold are gradually revealed and who exactly is seeking revenge.
A fast paced, gritty psychological thriller, Daniel Hurst never disappoints in this genre. There are some unbelievable moments, but skim pass that!
Thank You Bookouture Audio and NetGalley for advanced audio copy of Her Husband's Mistake. This book was a good quick listen. This book is not thrilling, there is some suspense, it was entertaining. I recommend this book.
I want to thank NetGalley and Bookouture Audio for an Advance Readers Copy of Her Husband’s Mistake.
This was my first Daniel Hurst book, and I was unaware of what to expect.
Her Husband’s Mistake is a fast paced story.
Jack and Lorna lived in New York City until a tragic incident occurred and changed their lives for ever and they fled for England. When they returned to England they vowed to never return to New York City.
Now their children are grown and want to return to New York City for a vacation. Could a social media post from Lorna and Jack’s children dig up untold truths?
I’m hoping for a second story of this as the book ended on a cliffhanger.
Her Husband’s Mistake will be released on September 30, 2023.
What a ride! This was a fast paced, heart-wrenching story!
Jack and Lorna lived in NYC until there was a huge changing point in their lives…and they fled back to London.
They have two kids, who were born in the UK, even though they were living in NY at the time. But when the oldest was 6, they left NY and vowed to never return.
Now the kids are growing up (21 and 18) and want to see NYC, because they don’t really remember it.
They agree to go back…and that’s when the story, and the problems begin.
Crazy stuff! Could it be done? Absolutely, if you have the money and connections.
And as the story is revealed…my heart was pounding and I was stressing out!
And the twist…holy crap! Never saw it coming…
Thanks to #NetGalley and #Bookouture for the ARC of the audiobook which will be released shortly on 9/30/23.

Definitely not my favourite read of Daniel's but still enjoyable. I found nothing Jack and Lorna quite unlikeable. I did find it a bit unbelievable that Alex would just wander off with a stranger though, Maddie's reason for leaving was a lot more believable. The epilogue twist saves the overall plot. I didn't see it coming. I'll assume there will be a sequal given how it ended.
Both narrators did a really good job on this audiobook.
Wow! Once again Daniel Hurst does not disappoint! This was a fucked up sitch and I was totally here for it! I am left wondering if there will be a follow-up since it ended on a kind of cliffhanger...

3.5 stars rounded up — even though there were bits that made me groan, the pace kept it moving and the epilogue twist has me hoping for a sequel. If Hurst writes one, I’ll read it!
Okay, the premise: a British family flee New York after the husband makes a terrible mistake. When they return on vacation fifteen years later, the secret of their past return to haunt them.
Intriguing, right? Except… Lorna and Jack are afflicted with Too Stupid to Live Syndrome. They’re both super conflicted about the vacation because they KNOW it could be super dangerous, and yet we’re supposed to believe that they go anyway, just because their kids asked for a trip for their birthdays? WHAT.
The kids are also pretty dumb, but they’re young so we’ll give them a pass for falling for their <spoiler> kidnapper’s tricks.
Lorna and Jack weren’t likable and the whole time I read this I thought I’d give it 3 stars, but that epilogue twist came out of nowhere and, even as I opened my browser to write this review, I was wishing that the sequel were out now. It’s not a brilliant work of literature, but the pacing and twists came through to earn this one the extra star! If a book makes me crave more, that’s worth 4.
Thanks, NetGalley and Bookouture, for the free ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This is my first Daniel Hurst book and it won't be my last. It's well written and intriguing. The story holds your interest throughout with plenty of suspense and twists. The audio was well executed and added to the story. I thoroughly enjoyed this audio. 4 stars!
I read every Daniel Hurst book I can get my hands on and was lucky enough to get an audio advanced readers copy of My Husband's Mistake. As with all of Hurst's books, this one did not disappoint. The narrators were wonderful also.
I won't go into a lot of detail since there is the blurb and so many great reviews, but if you like fast paced thrillers this would be a good one for you. It shows what lengths one will go to to protect their kids and that the choices we make affect our future. I did not have the ending figured out and that to me is the best kind of thriller.
Thank you to NetGalley, Daniel Hurst, and the publisher for the ARC of this book..
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for a copy of this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.
The premise of this book was so great and really sucked me in. I really enjoyed the multiple perspectives in the book and I liked how the mystery built up around the secret the husband has. For the longest time, I thought it would be a scorned lover that was his secret, I am glad at how wrong I was. This book was thrilling and a quick listening experience which was great and exciting.
True to the author's reputation the book is top notch. This couple wonders if they can get away without paying the price for their crime. Sometimes in the end one has to question who really is the bad guy? This is a great read. I highly recommend it.
"Her Husband's Mistake" by Daniel Hurst is a decent thriller. It kept me interested enough to listen to straight all in one day. It is told in multiple voices that change by chapter, the mother Lorna, the father Jack, the oldest child - daughter Maddie, and the younger child - son Alex. The kids are now turning 18 and 21 years old and have asked to go to NYC as their big birthday gifts. Reluctantly, the parents agree, and they are going on a family holiday from England to New York City, where they had lived when the kids were young. They moved to England because of something bad that happened years ago in New York. I really can't tell you more without spoiling the story. I recommend this book for readers who enjoy thrillers.
I didn't care for the premise of the book, but the action is good regardless. The four lead characters are well described, so you get to know them all.
There are two different narrators, one female, Tamsin Kennard, who reads Lorna and Maddie's chapters, and one male, Nathaniel Priestley, who reads Jack and Alex's chapters. Both narrators were excellent and gave the appropriate intonation to indicate nervousness and fear when called for. They helped make the story into a good audio book.
Thank you to Netgalley and Bookouture Audio for this audio book ARC in exchange for my honest review.
This is a super fast read which requires a whole lot of suspension of disbelief. First of all, the blurb gave entirely too much of the story away. It would have been better going into it knowing a lot less. Secondly, I don't know if it's because of it's short length, but within a New York minute the book was going way too fast and entirely off the rails. Overall, the narration was good, but this one just didn't really work for me. Thanks to NetGalley, the publisher and the author for the gifted ALC in exchange for my honest opinion.
I am pasting the Goodreads book description for this review as the book’s description everywhere else gives to much plot away for this short book! This was also the book description I read, so I wasn’t spoiled if I had read the book description elsewhere I would have been.
Jack and Lorna are from the UK originally and were living in New York until Jack did something and they suddenly left and returned to the UK with their young children. They vowed to never return until… Fast forward fifteen years with their children turning 18 and 21… big birthdays!!! Guess what both kids want??? A trip to NYC!! Knowing their kids wouldn’t stop mentioning a NYC trip Jack and Lorna decide to give that gift to them. And now we have this book and what happens!
Her Husband’s Mistake is my second book by Daniel Hurst that I have listened to this year and I have enjoyed both. He is an author I will look out for! This one was very short coming in at 5.5 hours long and so it moves the entire time! Get ready for a roller coaster of intensity with this one!
Jack and Lorna were not very likeable for me, but the kids were. So much happens so quickly it’s a book you don’t want to put down! And it even went in a direction that I would not have guessed was going to happen! I was shocked: I actually had to relisten to that chapter when I got to a certain point in the audiobook!
The narrators did a good job with their narrations, I did like Tamsin Kennard’s voice more than Nathaniel Priestley.
Many thanks to the publisher Bookoutoure Audio for granting me an alc to listen to and review! I enjoyed this very quick listen!
Wow! I'm 2 for 2 with this author! I love his thrillers. To put it simply, secrets can kill.
Thank you Net Galley and Bookouture for an audio ARC of this book for an honest review.
