A woman’s past comes back to haunt her when her son and daughter are taken. A phone call from an unknown number leads her down a path of horror. She’s given a choice, kill her husband, or her children will be killed. This is a twisty and suspenseful story that will leave readers wondering
This book, while it may not have been my personal cup of tea, could potentially find its niche with readers who are more lenient when it comes to characters' handling of secrets and the resulting consequences.
My inability to connect with the story might be attributed to my preference for a different style of storytelling. The narrative pace seemed to prioritize quick revelations over a gradual buildup of tension, which, for me, diminished the suspense that I typically seek in a book.
However, it's important to acknowledge that reading preferences vary widely, and what didn't captivate me might hold genuine appeal for others. So, while I didn't personally connect with this book, I encourage those with different tastes to give it a chance, as it might provide a unique and engaging experience for them.
I love this author's books. They are always very easy reads with every day people. And then those cover, you cannot not like them.
A trip with the family to New York City. What is not to like about that? Maddie and Alex are super enthusiastic and are counting the days, even the hours until their departure to the US. Their parents, Lorna and Jack, on the other hand are counting the hours until their return to England... But they don't want to spoil the fun and want to make the best of it. After all, what can go wrong during those few days when they have been safe for the last fifteen years?
Well,... more than they could ever have imagined... How will this end?
This book calls for a sequel and I would not mind this in the slightest. I hope the author would consider it. :)
A lovely read with a few surprises to keep the reader a happy camper.
The narrators were superb, making the story come alive. Splendid job. 5 stars
Thank you
Lorna and Jack fled New York many years ago. Now they’re two children. Maddie and Alex are celebrating significant birthdays and the one place they want to visit. Is New York so a trip back seems inevitable. in their excitement, the children post about their visit on social media so people know where they are going to be.
It isn’t long after arriving in the Big Apple at first Alex goes missing followed by Maddie. The parents seem to know who may have their children. However, Lorna is given an ultimatum she has to save her husband or her children. What was it that happened all those years ago that led to this? Why did the couple leave America so quickly. What will Lorna do when under pressure?
This was a thoroughly engaging read. I certainly did not expect the ending , but that added to the enjoyment of the book, I will certainly be looking out for all the titles by this author. Many thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for the opportunity to see an ARC
Having kept her husband's secret for so long, Lorna is faced with the choice of whether to reveal it or have something happen to her children. This book was easy to listen to as I was hooked from the start. Just under 6 hours, it is one of the shorter books I've listened to and can be read in one sitting. Lots of twists and jaw dropping moments made this one exciting for me!
Her Husbands Mistake
By: Daniel Hurst
4⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Hurst has become a go to author for me. I can always count on a quick, twisty domestic thriller that has me on pins and needles.
A husband and wife give their children a vacation in NYC for their birthdays. Maddie is going to a baseball game and Alex to the theater when they both come up missing. The children have no idea that their parents are dreading this trip! Something in their past could be responsible for being kidnapped. Jack and Lorna feel like their past has caught up with them!
At least the children are together! Can they be saved? Is the kidnapping related to their past? What an ending!
Thank you Bookouture Audio and Netgalley for this advanced audio due out September 30, 2023.

A mistake, a horrible, horrible, mistake was made years ago....
Family vacations/trips/holidays are usually things people look back on fondly. Exploring new places, having new experiences, eating tasty food, taking photos, and having fun are usually what family trips are all about. But that is not the case for Jack and his wife, Lorna. They used to live in New York and when they left all those years ago, they swore they would never go back. But their daughter Maddie wants to go there for her birthday. So, Jack, Lorna, Alex (their son) and Maddie head to New York.
First off, the blurb of the book gives too much away. Seriously, less is more. So, readers will know a lot of the plot going into this book and that is a shame. What is not a shame is the audiobook which had great narrators telling the story. I thought they did a great job! This is a short listen and I easily listened to it over the course of one day.
With most Daniel Hurst books, things move very quickly, and readers will be transported into the action almost instantly. There is a lot on the line, their children are missing, and they need to find them while keeping their secret.
I usually love Daniel Hurst books and while I enjoyed this one and was entertained by it, it didn't quite love it as much as I have the previous books, I have read by him. Mainly because so much is told in the blurb. I like to be shocked and have twists and turns along the way, not be spoon fed everything that is going to happen. Sure, there are still some twists and turns and a reveal, but being told so much in the synopsis really affected my enjoyment of this book. Jack and Lorna are not the most likeable characters. It was hard to feel sorry for them, but I did feel for their children.
Again, this was entertaining, and the narrators were great. Hurst writes dramatic and shocking books that have me turning the pages at warp speed. Unfortunately, while I enjoyed this book, I didn’t love it. I did enjoy the drama and fast pace. I'm still a huge fan and look forward to reading more of his books in the future.
Entertaining with great narration.
I listened to this as soon as I got the notification that I had been approved for the audiobook ARC. I am obsessed with his series about the Doctor's Wife and can't wait for the next installment. In the meantime, this one was exciting, but less good than the Doctor's Wife series. It does however appear there will be a sequel based on that ending and I'll be interested to see if someone is able to get their revenge (can't say anymore without spoiling it)
Jack and his wife, Lorna live in England with their two children Alex and Maddie. They once lived in New York, but something awful happened one night and the two have kept it a secret and never return to New York. Maddie's 21st birthday is coming up and she wants to spend it in New York. TBH, I get it, you want to oblige and give your daughter what she wants for her birthday, BUT if you have this giant secret that you're very much trying to keep, WHY RISK GOING BACK TO THE PLACE WHERE IT ALL STARTED?!?! Well anyways, they go back, and their two kids get kidnapped and Lorna gets a call telling her she can have her kids back if she kills her husband for what he did all those years ago.
Would you kill your husband to save your children's lives? Would you the husband, sacrifice yourself to save your kid's lives?
This audiobook was a short listen, a little over 5 hours. In my mind, it ended pretty abruptly, but the epilogue redeemed it slightly opening it up for a sequel. The narrator was great and added to my enjoyment of this book.
Jack and his wife, Lorna, have a terrible secret that they have kept hidden for many years. When they lived in New York City, Jack did something bad and quickly moved his family back to England. It's now their daughter Maddie's 21st first birthday and she wants to go back to New York. Their son, Alex, is reluctant to go because he has a secret of his own. When they get to New York everything is fine until Maddie and Alex go missing. Will they be found? Does this have something to with what Jack did all these years ago?
HER HUSBAND'S SECRET was the perfect story to escape into for a day. I'm not quite sure how I feel about all the characters. I don't want to give anything away, but I felt bad for Maddie and Alex. When everything comes back full circle, they learn a lot about their father. I did like the twist at the end. Daniel Hurst always knows how to shock me. He is definitely one of my go to authors!
Many thanks to Bookouture Audio and NetGalley for my gifted ALC.
